[APP] Astro Pro - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Astro Pro is finally available in the market for $3.99. I really like this file manager but why is it so much larger than other file managers, 2.2M compared to .2M to .5M for most others? I also think they are asking too much, I think $1.99 is more reasonable. For now I am going to stick to one of the smaller, free managers.

Listed as $2.99 at the moment, introductory offer.
It's a great app, I bought it.

what's so special about astro compared to estrong file explorer?

Thumbnail view (image preview) is one of the major ones I haven't found in other managers..
It's got a lot of added stuff like app manager, task killer function etc.
Really quick file moving, and according too the dev, it's supposed to handle interruptions a lot better than the rest. (say you're moving files and get a phonecall..)
The ad version is pretty bad though, too little screen space left for file-viewing.
It was my favorite until last update, now I'd rather pay for root explorer..
-e

I've used both, they both seem to have the same functionality, but I actually prefer estrong's look.

I bought it also

Plus remember you don't need to buy it as it just removes the ads added in the last update and helps support the developer.

In my experience I prefer astro simply because you can install an apk from within a zip file without having to unzip it. I tried many others but none seemed to be able to do this..

I love warez

Best free pdf viewer?

I am looking for a free pdf viewer. The one that comes with the Nexus One isnt cutting it for me. I need a free pdf viewer that can handle large files.

So this doesnt really answer YOUR question, but you seem like someone who might be able to anser mine. I purchased an ebook and I can only view it with adobe digital edition or something like that. Everytime I try to open it on my phone, the only place I need it, it says I need a password. I emailed the ebook company and they never wrote me back. Its frustrating and dont really know where to go from here if anywhere at all. Sorry to change the subject but just seemed like the right time to present this proble,.
And I am sorry if this is in the wrong place.
repligo reader is good, but not free
I think the quickoffice one that comes with astro its quite good too

I have tried every single PDF viewer on the Market and they are all complete and utter garbage.
Luckily I was pleasantly surprised when I flashed the Desire ROM. Lo and behold, it had a PDF Viewer, one that was actually worth using!
I highly recommend switching to Desire, or trying to pull the files out to make it work on stock Android.
If I'm not mistaken quick office comes on most the roms that will run on the nexus. You just need a file browser that will call it up for you (astro or my fav SUFBS) seems to open fairly large pdf files for me. Not a lot of options but it's better than any I've found on the market. From the sounds of it the OP has already used quick office though. Anyone know of any apps not mentioned here already?
For the ebook file, maybe try aldiko, I didn't like it, but that's why I usually just look for rooks on pdf format to download.

Astro sucks

Every few days it makes you update it and blocks you from using it at all if you don't update it. I find this extremely annoying because sometimes I just have to use it to look up something really quick and I find out it won't even let me use it and I have to go through all the trouble of updating it and installing it again and everything. So this morning I got so annoyed that I just uninstalled it. Are there any other file managers that are good? If anyone can recommend any, I'd appreciate it, thanks.

I am using ES File Explorer since Astro got ad-supported - because of them there is no space left for exploring files on screen. I think ES is good enough
Get a froyo rom the allow automatic updating for astro Simples
Ghost Commander is my most-used file manager, File Magic from the author of Tasker looks really nice too, I need to check it out myself.
Astro got deleted a few weeks ago on my N1.
it's true if you have astro installed on your android phone after a time you have to update it but I found one that does not need to be updated
try this one
I use Blackmoon File Browser.
I use Linda Manager (ads at bottom of main screen only) ... Theirs also OI file manager (to the best of my knowledge doesn't have ads) ... But my favorite is AndExplorer its free and very easy to use also no ads
Sure does, I don't know why its so popular.
i love the stock explorer in my Vibrant. Very classy and fast.
EStrongs File Explorer simply ownz Astro. No ads, free, fast, customisable and can do many things (like exploring your PC by WLAN).
I don't know too why Astro is so popular!

Well Astro could do all those things too, and it used to be ad-free
Root Explorer is cool too. Just lack the embellish icons.
EStrongs FTW!

just pay the developer for his work if you want it ad-free, dammit.
threads like this are the reason why I don't offer my apps on the market...

DONT GET ANGRY MY FRIEND lots of people make apps .. even i do it .. its not a rocket science but everybody loves some free apps .. and for apps like Astro no one would like to pay when there are others available for free..anyhow its people's choice if they wanna pay they ..
NOTE:::: WHY IS ASTRO BEING GIVEN SO MUCH IMPORTANCE.. I AM USING "ANDROZIP" WHICH NO ONE TALKED ABOUT HERE AND ITS NICE with LOTS OF FUNCTIONALITIES, EASY TO USE AND AD-FREE.
+1 ES file explorer. Luv the easy bluetooth file xfer and LAN browser.

True that why complain about a dev going for $$ for his hardwork ? he owns the app ...
I know myself dont like Astro at all , ES is the best free app no doubt and Rootexplorer simply does it all .

[Q] New to Android

Hi dudes!
I just bought my first Android phone - Huawei U8150 IDEOS. It has Froyo on it and it is "with Google" on the back, which by the reviews means that is with bold Android 2.2 and not with some apps from the manufacturer.
But, as this is my first phone on Google, I would like some recommendations for apps, security maybe, what to do with it, and of course some basics about the Android itself because I don't know nothing about it. Don't be angry at me for that, and I know that this is not the COOLEST phone (by coolest probably means most expensive ) but it is enough (given the money amount spent on it). BUT THANK GOD, I FINALLY BOUGHT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyways, this may be some useful informations for the newbies also, not only for the IDEOS model.
And.....also I live on the Balkan so probably some apps for US region may not work for me.
Any tip and info will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Am.....sorry if there is some other thread like this one out there, I searched and - no results, but again, I may be mistaken. So if there is something like this, please let me know and then close the thread. THANKS!
Bye!
Congrats on the purchase.
Recommend Angry Birds, Guns 'n' Glory and Pocket Legends straight off for free games. Other good apps include Mini Info, LED me know, ES File Explorer, Foursquare, Bump and 8pen. You'll find some sort of barcode scanner essential (Google Goggles, Barcode Scanner, etc) as there's no App Market available on your computer, so many developers use barcodes that link to the marketplace on your phone instead. As you'll swiftly find out, most of the best apps are free, it's just a case of finding them.
Good luck!
Great

Ahaha. I use 3G Watchdog, as it gives you notifications when you approach your limit.
The current battery percentage (rather than just a simple graphic) is accessible in the Settings -> About Phone -> Status. The number of apps on the market to display the percent as a widget probably number in the hundreds.
But since that's not too amazingly helpful, there are 3 apps I know of that try and see your usage to predict number of hours remaining on the battery: JuicePlotter, Battery Snap, and my own new one Battery Diviner, which has its own thread in this forum.
Other apps I use often:
ASTRO File Manager, by Metago
Quick Settings, by Sergej Shafarenka
Tasker, by Crafty Apps (tons of automation)
Barcode Scanner, by ZXing Team (for the QR codes you see everywhere online)
FBReader, by Geometer Plus (an e-book reader)
WeatherBug
Winamp
Dolphin Browser
Games I suggest:
Solitare, by Ken Magic (includes Solitare, Spider, FreeCell, and Forty Thieves)
Robo Defense, by Lupis Labs Software
Trap!, by Matt Wachowski
EDIT: I just noticed you seem to like 8pen. I tried it out, probably will again, but in the meantime, SwiftKey is my favorite software keyboard.

Wonderful!
Thanks mates!
That's one cool app, swiftkey. Only one problem though that I forgot to mention, looking for free apps. Not that I wouldn't pay couple of bucks for it, but IF I had more money maybe. And I will try using it your own new one Izkata, just I must wait to go to WiFi area, as I already am near the end of the MB provided for free (300MB for the lowest cost package).
I like to do more with this Android phone, just more time to pass, to get use of it and know how the OS works.

Well, SwiftKey does have a free trial version on the market that works for 2 weeks. I wouldn't have bought it myself if I hadn't used it for free during the Beta, but then again, I don't know your money situation
I apparently Thanked your post by accident trying to hit Quote. Oops. Oh well, Thanks for checking out mine, I guess?
Smart Keyboard Trial - Can't post links yet... lol
In my opinion, this is the best keyboard. I never really got good at swype, and this just lets me type so quick, and the auto correct feature is always spot on. You can change it so the long-press duration is shorter, so you don't even have to go to a second screen for punctuation and numbers, they're just alternates...
And the trial lasts forever, with a "bother" message that lasts 3 seconds that pops up like once a day.

Isn't the smart key trial better for bigger screens? I have 2.8 inch, so maybe the swiftkey or the 8pen will be better for me, but I will have to try to compare.
And are you using some apps for the camera guys? Is it going to be better to use some app because I don't have flash and it is only 3 MP?
Thanks!

Are the apps up to date? And are they free to install them, and also secure?
I saw some interesting thing there but still didn't copied to the sd card.

For those who like stock browser.....

But hate the unsupported file types. There is a program called download all files. It runs in the background and will allow you to download apk, rar, exe, and many more. I personally love the stock browser but had to keep a spare to download certain file types. I have tested this and it works. So if you can use it try it out. Make sure to show the dev some love if you use it and like it. I personally installed this and uninstalled three.
Programs this replaced for me was savemyattach as this will also let you save attachments for gmail and such. Dolphin and opera webrowsers. Great app.
Tap-a-Talked
I've been using this for a while. Its amazing.

I know I can't believe I didn't find this sooner. It was so aggravating having to switch back and forth between browsers.

Any Idea how to reinstall stock browser? I accidentally deleted it and now voice search tool doesn't work.

What tools/apps do you use?

Hows it going guys. I'm on these forums as well as many others constantly. I'm constantly trying new stuff (Tools, apps, mods, ROMS, Kernels, etc) and have always wondered what other people from the community used. So if you would post some apps/tools you would recommend for any purpose. Whether it be for games/mods/messaging/etc because I plan on going through and trying everything posted. I might find something very useful i havent before. Anyways thanks for taking the time
App:
Location to download:
Purpose:
Best feature about it:
Well, it is all very individual. One person thinks his app is cool, another will not even look at it. I download everything from android market because several days age I caught a trojan while downloading from Internet - it was some live wallpaper or so. Beware of files where it's written that they may send paid sms.
As for apps:
I liked Explorer+ very very much. It is the best explorer because it's well organized and has a search button.
Next antivirus Avast is awesome. It has inbuilt antytheft and prevents the phone from sending paid sms.
GoldenDict helps me a lot. You may load there your dictionaries you need and use them.
I like Kaiten Mail email client as well. It is simple to use and everything is handy.
OfficeSuite is also nice. I came to android from wm and have windows xp at BB. So it opens all my documents easily without any dances.
Hope it helped. Waiting for your list as well.
PS. I need a substitution for my spb finance and need to convert my 3-year base to android. Can you suggest anything?
Mobile: HTC Sensation
Rom: Elegancia ICS (actually v3.3.5) with Sense 3.6
Kernel: 1,5GHz - 3.0.16-gda3fdfc by SebastianFM
Favoured Apps:
Mail: K9 - in my opinion nice to use and to configure
Messenger: WhatsApp / IM+ (Jabber/XMMP-Support)
Navigation: Navigon Mobile (payed) - reliable/stable
Antivirus: Kaspersky Mobile (payed) - really high hit rate
Alarm Clock: Alarm Clock Plus - many features for alarmclock like caculation for shutdown alarm
File Explorer: EStrongs / ES - well-arranged/easy to browse
Webbrowser: Opera Mobile - dunno y
Maybe there are some suggestions for you
I use esfile explore because its easy, free, clean looking and gets the job done, on cm7 roms or cm9 rom I delete the stock file manager..simply because its useless, and just taking up space, instead of having 2 file managers I just keep es and delete the stock. I use wifi tether, everyware I go I have my phone and my tablet, so if I need internet on my tablet or if my freind needs internet for his itouch then I just turn on my wifi hotspot. Apk manager is great for editing system images. Gimp is great for creating images or changing colors for my phone/tablet system. Opera mini is very fast for quick searching unlike most stock browsers, if you don't need flash then go with opera

App: News Republic
Location to download: Play store
Purpose: give you some synthetic news about your subject

ColorNote is an app that I use all the time, if you haven't tried it, check it out. It's a good note app, check list, task list, etc. It is attractive and easy to use.
Another app that is good is Bing. I didn't expect to like it but if you are looking for just about anything, it will find it - local stuff, stores, services, movies, web searches, pizza, you name it.
YEHAAA a little bit shameless self advertisement:
You should obviously try SD Maid, which will satisfy all your file handling needs.
And if you are the type that likes to put CPU/RAM etc. usage on his desktop computers wallpaper try Diagnosis.
If you have apps in the market, andlytics is pretty awesome.
Give this a try too, while you sleep.
Titanium backup is a very good tool for all who change there rom very often (like me because of CM9)
Also I like PlayerPro because it has advenatges like sleep timer etc.
