I wonder, why there is no separate forum for the tablet version of Milestone
It seems to be a good phone and it is already released in the UK, as far as I remember

I agree. It was released in S-Korea since May and in Singapore since June. We should have a separate forum.
XT720 is already released in almost all the market, but still, no one care ...
yip can we please get a separate forum, my EU XT720 arrives Wednesday and would be cool to have somewhere specific to discuss it.
cheers
XT720 is so cool! I got it in Singapore!~ need a separate forum!!!

don't booo quickly. I've OC it to 800 MHz ... it is said that it's capable of OC up to 1.2 GHz but i dare not to do it so i just set it to 800. very fast ... faster than other 800Mhz phones.

If they put out a Captivate version for Rogers, I suspect it'll work quite nicely on our US Captivates. Though we'll probably see the US version around the same time lack of announcements notwithstanding.
Hopefully at&t will actually give us an HSUPA radio. *wishful thinking*
I'm enjoying coming from Sprint... my Evo in my bedroom... 600kbps download at the most, usually more like 400 or 500... and upload was like 190...
I average 2-4Mbps with my at&t download and 1.2-1.7 up using the JPM radio... HUGE difference...
Not that it matters since it won't tether for whatever reason.
This is baller, i just got the capticate on the weekend. Came from the motorola milestone with nothing but broken prommises of a offical 2.2 i think 2.2 will run ausome on this phone.

It's funny that no one got this yet!
Hmm how does this work? Rogers said that 2.2 will be released in 1st half of 2011. Isn't it Rogers that has the final say on when 2.2 will be pushed onto devices? I assume Rogers controls the updates which they receive from Samsung and tests/modifies it to conform with their devices. Unless there's a way to by-pass rogers entirely and grab it from Samsung? Kies?
On the flip side, Telus has said that their Fascinate will get 2.2 in the winter, but now Samsung Canada says 2011.
Who is to believe? I'm not expecting 2.2 for a while for my Captivate so I didn't get excited for it or anything. But if it's really coming in mid-December (apart from Samsung's expected delays), then that's awesome.
This awesome. Mark Nguyen of rogers redbaord says that captivate will have 2.2 in early 2011. Maybe what he meant was on the fascinate.
Uh oh....is there an Ota update? I dont see an option like the att for ota updates or im just blind
Rogers customer here. If you saw the clusterfuck that was the Captivate launch, you'd know better than expect the upgrade before January. 2012, that is.
Since the hardware is so similar, can anyone with chef-wisdom comment on the possibility of porting Nexus S ROMs?

I think we can with no issues. I am preordering it so I will let you know asap. The only issue I can see is if Google did not use samsung rfs partition. Im pretty sure they wont use it but who knows. If it is not rfs I think we would have to reformat are storage then load the rom. Im not a expert on android partitioning so we will need help with that but im sure tons of people will help out.
Definitely count me in & contact me if anyone needs any help on doing this work. This is probably the best news Captivate owners have had since buying the phone. Heh.

Yeah same here. I felt like I was the only person rooting for the Nexus S to not have a dual core and push boundaries but rather be similar to our devices.
If porting turns out to be easy then this is huuuuge for all Galaxy S owners. You can pretty much live in any country, and be on any carrier and will have the option for a Galaxy S variant with a huge amount of custom roms available.
i guess im the only one whos skeptical that samsung will allow us to flash a VANILLA rom over their own touchwiz..

Erm... I don't think you're the only one who is skeptical of that...but I don't think that's what everyone is excited about... I think we're all excited here for the rom porting opportunities...
Look like the Nexus S is going to be sold unlocked after 12/16. It should have no problems working with at&t's network, right?
It supports:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
HSPA: 900, 1700, 2100
Even though we may get the software ported onto a Captivate, I need a phone with working LBS.
this is the best news ever. what a christmas gift!!!
I am also very curious and cant wait to hear.

This has got to be the firmware for the Nexus S. Android 2.3. A month ago, we couldn't do much with it. Will the new SDK help?
The only thing I'm slightly worried about is if it's got a legit 512MB of RAM as opposed to our sorta 512MB RAM... and if it will make that much of a difference.

It shouldn't. The HIGHMEM fix was included in 2.2, iirc.
**Edit - to clarify - since the code that addressed allowable memory was already included in a version many here are already unofficially running, the amount of RAM shouldn't make a difference. It'll be like putting 6GB of memory in a PC w/a 32bit OS.
That said, there may well be some performance differences, but I've not read where Gingerbread's all that much more demanding on the hardware than Froyo.
I will definitely be donating to the developers with the nexus S ROM

Wasn't it only done through a leaked build of upcoming gingerbread update for Atrix though? Not really applicable for us, is it?
Atrix sales suck. Xoom sales suck. Nobody believes Motorola will unlock anything. Motorola can't afford Bionic sales to suck, but plans to release it with a locked bootloader, anyway. Minimal effort to get the blogosphere on your side: leak bootloader. Unlock other devices? Won't bother.

1 The Xoom-bootloader is already unlocked.
2 The Atrix-bootloader is leaked here. Motorola would've unlocked it with the 2.3-upgrade. And if you don't believe me, ask the devs who found it. They'll tell you they would.
And Xoom-sales suck? There is too much demand for the Xoom here in The Netherlands. All store are out of stock at the moment and still a lot of people want it.

I thought I read that it came from a leak of a Motorola GB release too. I don't think anyone has cracked the bootloader yet.

Xoom is unlocked on all versions. Just need to do the fastboot oem unlock thing.
I'd argue that Motorola's android sales aren't horrendous, if you just consider the number of Vzn droid devices in the states.
true news? if its true would be damn great!!
All I know is that according to disgruntled Xoom users on reddit in the continuous "where the hell is SD card support?!?!" posts, Google handles Xoom's software in the US (and has not released SD card support) but the US version has fastboot oem unlock and that Xoom software on at least some non-US versions is handled by Motorola (which has released SD card support outside the US) but these devices lack fastboot oem unlock.

@Mioze7Ae: I have a Xoom 3G myself. The Dutch one, so European. And I can confirm that the bootloader is unlockable here via fastboot oem unlock.

A Motorola GB-release for the Atrix leaked. The release contained the unlockable bootloader-thing. So yeah, it's cracked as the devs now have control over that leaked upgrade which unlocks the bootloader.

It's kind of satisfying seeing Motorola take hits like this. Makes me wonder how they ever thought the idea of making phones and then ditching the people who bought it was a good idea. Their lack of updates and locked phones has certainly got them into this mess.

For free? Otherwise, it's not a very big upgrade, switching to a 1.4GHz single core. I would look into something a bit more powerful if you want to see a real difference and not get tired of it quickly.

If you can create your own builded custom ROMs and Mods, then go for it, because there is no official CM out for this device, i am too stuck with Neuxs S because development isn't dead yet, and about 1.4 Ghz, you can overclock it
