XDA newbie

Hi all, these PDA gadgets is all new to me so I thought I would start with something quite cheap (in case I am too thick and cannot follow)..
So I got this XDA but i can't really find any use with it.. Most webpages i come across saying that its in-compatible and also the pre-loaded MSN messenger saying that it won;t work with that version( then why on earth is that pre-installed?) also the webmessenger again is not working... nor the ICQ... So.. what exactly can i do with it??
bit fustrating really..
Sorry if my questions have been covered but doing a search and seems that everything is too techy like different ROM and things that I do not seemto understand too well..

re webbrowser.
Use a new browser, ou multie or tweak2k to change broswer's 'id' so it's seen as internet explorer for compatibility.

hmmmm.. ok ... cheers for the info.. now the next question is.. How and what do i need to update??
which Rom can help me to browse?? Also i guess there is no way out about the messenger then.,...??

as i said ms have an update you have to run to get messenger working
if you get a newer rom it may not be necessary though

can you tell me if that update is downloadable and where??
or what is the version called?

My Opera has gone QVGA? Help please!

I'm using the stock ROM on T-Mobile UK. For some reason Opera has now started double-pixeling like PIE does with images when zoomed in on the page (ie when u double-tap the screen). It's making all my images look blocky and web pages all naff looking. Even the form items (radio buttons and checkboxes etc) are all QVGA-ed.
Please help!

OK, I've even just upgraded to the latest version using this thread:

And it's still pixel doubling. any ideas?

Here are some pics of what I mean:
1. Usual PIE double-pixelling (tho my old universal had a VGA compatible PIE so why doesn't the TP?!)
2. Google page all squarified
3. Zoomed in on a form element (radio button all pixelated)
4. BBC News after a zoomed in double-tap - images are all pixelated and not clear as they used to be!)
Hope this helps. This is drivin' me nutz. Is there a registry setting somewhere to tell Opera to display VGA images?

Okay. Maybe it's something in it's settings. Do the following:
1. Find the Opera thread in the Dev & Hacking section and download latest cab.
2. Uninstall Opera. If that isn't possible, download the upgrade version from the thread.
Now do one of the following:
1)If you uninstalled, soft reset and install Opera
2)Soft reset and respond back with ss and results
OR
1)Upgrade if you can't uninstall
2)Soft reset and respond back with ss and results

Cheers for the ideas but I've already tried them. I just upgraded to build 2392 (from the link in my second post) which is running fine. However, it did not fix this issue.
Any other ideas?

Ah. I'm sorry for not reading. What apps do you have installed that could potentially affect the orientation or settings of any app installed on your phone?

Thee only setting I've really changed recently is the "GPRS auto attach" setting in Adv Config to enabled. Other than that I can't think of anything else. In the past I have installed the G-sensor app but uninstalled it as I had no use for it. But it's been working fine since then.
Perhaps Windows Live Search was the last app I installed whr I cannot be sure if it affected opera or not. U think maybe try uninstalling it?

OK. Uninstalled it, reset, and nothing. Opera is still QVGA. WTF is going on?!
I could revert back to a backup but Id like to solve this problem incase it happens again. Anyone kno of any settings to tweak and where they are (there must be more than the useless standard ones)?

OK - just hard reset and it seems Opera was like this from the very start. It just pixel doubles anyway when zoomed in. Bit rubbish really...

I was actually thinking that lol. But you said you never had that problem before so I didn't think too much about it. I just think you zoomed in too much.

two questions about opera

Hey guys, two questions about opera:
1- there is a school website that i visit regularly, and on the homepage you can usually see the most recent posts in the forum. The problem is that i cant see those posts when i go there usuing at&t connection, but they show up fine when i go there on wifi. Whats the difference? Is there something i can change?
2- this is just real annoying...when i go to a page, opera seems to keep moving the window down and to the right while the page is loading. If i double click to zoom in, the window will start moving all over the place. I find myself either waiting for the page to totally stop loading, or manually stopping it. Is anybody else having this problem? Any solutions? Thanks

not sure about your #1, but #2 is basically just annoying quirks in the application. It is still opera beta, so its not perfect yet. If your looking for an alternative you might wanna try skyfire. If you type in get.skyfire.com right in opera you can get a cab for it. That may solve your #1 also since skyfire pre-renders the pages for you and they dont use a proxy like opera does.

Skyfire closes as soon as it opens on WM6.5

I looked around and cant really seem to find any info on this. I am running TPC series ROM on my Tilt w/ 6.5 and after installing the latest Skyfire version, as soon as it opens it will just close right away. I just hard reset the phone and installed Skyfire and it's the same thing. Anybody have any ideas? I would really like to use this browser.

You need to roll back to an earlier version of Skyfire. The newest one(s) doesn't work on 6.5. I had the same issue, but fortunately someone posted the previous version in the Raphael Software forum. If you can't find it on the skyfire website (or don't have the cab anymore), just try searching in that forum.

Okay cool, thanks Ted! I appreciate the info. I should have a couple of older versions laying around, I'll give them a try

Do you know if this issue has been fed back to Skyfire?

[Q] Google Chrome to Phone

Okay so I've been looking ALL over this site and have found noting and I am brand new so I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section but I can't figure this out. I just upgraded to Windows 8 and I installed chrome to phone and when I try to send a page it tells me to sign in (when I am already signed in) and I click to sign in and it takes me to a blank white page that says redirecting and just stays there. It's driving me crazy because I can't get it to work. Now I don't know if it is something with Google or with the fact I'm running windows 8 but I guess I'm wondering if this is happening to anyone else or if someone can help me figure this out I'd REALLY appreciate it. Thank you!

Maybe it doesn't work on Win8? Try it on Win7 just to make sure it's not an OS problem... which I doubt.
Just to clear things out... you do have the Android counterpart installed on your phone, correct?

opera mini is good

opera mobile is better =)

Used this before on my rooted Eris and used had to used google chrome.

The stock Android browser is not the same thing as Chrome. 2 different departments at Google. You'd think they would be the same, but they're not.
