Samsung = Fail no matter how many times they remake a phone
I might do it... If I can find someone to trade without any cash for a MyTouch...
But I don't know, it's the same thing except with 2.2 and a FFC.
I really want that screen though.

Yeah, but a WAY better screen that you could notice!!! And I like the physical appearance on it more then the MT4G.
I think you should wait for THIS instead

+1 on that haven't you guys noticed that Samsung is the worst when dealing with support lol. If your gonna get a new phone might as well wait for some dual cores to come out.

let's see...
1. SamSux has screwed me once already with the Behold2.
2. They have shrunk the internal storage from 16GB to 1GB (Vibrant to Vibrant4G).
3. yeah their screen is bigger and looks better indoors and on cloudy days, but I live in Texas as a Trucker and we have many more Sunny days than cloudy.
4. MT4G = 756MB RAM, Vibrant/Vibrant 4G = 512MB RAM.
in short not just NO!!! but OH HELL NO!!! I don't care if SamSux but out a triple-core 5GHz processor... Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I don't do well when I am the cause of my own shame.
Edit : where I got my specs for it http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_4g-3719.php
Oh hell no. With the specs you just posted, hell no. I like the mytouch even more now. Lol

No more Samsung for me. Ever.
I will, however, be the first in line for the HTC Pyramid (or whatever the final product will be called).
I also would like to laugh at you for downgrading so please switch
Mytouch 4g / CM7 / Minimalist Theme
I once liked Samsung
I had a vibrant and i loved it when it came out, then as half a year passed i still didn't have 2.2 froyo, it was just ridiculous even phones like the lg optimus had 2.2, if touchwiz was delaying the release of 2.2 get rid of it, then the nexus s came out and it was running 2.3, which pissed me off even more to have a phone that is considered top of the line running outdated software. so i got rid of the vibrant, got a mytouch 4g rooted it , installed CM7 nightly build (2.3) and i get updates daily, i will never go back to samsung for anything electronic.Never.
Why would anyone want to trade what I feel is a far superior phone for something they will have nothing but problems with. The MyTouch 4G superior in every way besides the screen display. The screen IMO isn't that much better them the MyTouch 4G. I happen to have one of the good screens.
Nexus One & MyTouch 4G
Vinny
Can not put my Nexus One down.
The Vibrant 4G is just a marketing ploy for people with Vibrants with 2.2 (which it just got) to switch over to 2.3, instead of just updating the software. Don't get me wrong, the Galaxy S is a great phone. Samsung just wants to make money while not caring about the consumer.
I wouldn't do it ....I would just wait for something better like a dual core phone ......I had the vibrant before my mt4g and yeah screen was good but so many problems with lag and updates for it ......I'm super happy with my mt4g I will upgrade as soon as something better comes out but foe now mt4g is the best out there for now ......

for me software is not important, it's the hardware that attracts me as i flash custom roms all the time. the vibrant does have a good development community so if software is not an issue then i say go for it, however, i suggest you just wait because the galaxy s2 will be announced 2 mondays from now and you can be sure that bad boy is coming to t-mobile. or you can wait for the htc inspire...either way my next phone will definitely be a dual core.

Software is very important. Go read Engadgets review of the Optimus 2X. Best hardware on any phone out there but horrible software that can cripple the phone. Samsung's software is horrible and crippled the Vibrant.
Samsung sucks, they screwed up the behold 2 which was great hardware. They screwed up the Vibrant which was great hardware. The Vibrant 4G will suck. The only phone they make that is good is the Nexus S because its stock google software.
If you upgrade or get a good deal then I guess it's ok. But if you purchase this phone at full retail for 650 buck... you're a moron.
Hey im new to XDA but so far i like it a lot looks like a bunch of great people. I'm eligible for and upgrade and am seriously considering the Inspire any reasons i shouldn't get or should i wait for the new latest and greatest willing to listen to anybody opinions let me know what you guys think
I've been watching the conference coverage happening in Spain right now (Barcelona, right?) through Engadget. So far I haven't seen anything that is making me P.O.'ed at purchasing the inspire.
The future is dual core processors apparently, but reaping these benefits is still a ways off... Enough for me to enjoy the inspire, and possibly purchase a new phone in a year when LTE is rollin'. I really don't have the best handle on this stuff so don't quote me.
I'm wondering the same thing. I've heard rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S II will be coming to AT&T. I would like a new phone now since I am eligible for an upgrade, but as soon as the S II rolls around I'm afraid I'll be regretting the Inspire.

But if I'm rooting it doesn't really matter what Samsung decides to do. AT&T hasn't updated to Froyo on my Aria, but I'm running CM7 so I don't really care.

It does matter. Without an official Froyo release, there won't be official Kernel source code. The Captivate ROMS are GOOD, but they are pieced together with source from other models.
The reasons there isn't CM7 on the captivate are there's no other phone similar enough to it unlike the Aria, so no source, and the fact that they used a very borked up file system and without kenel source, it's virtually impossible to re-write the file system and not have something else be flakey.
thanks for the help so far guys any more opinions would be appreciated
I would say go ahead and get the Inspire it is a nice phone and I don't have any regrets buying mine. I also look at it this way.
If you wait for the next latest and greatest phone to be released; you might as well not buy anything. Since; when it comes to tech toys; once anything is released to market; from CPU's to graphic cards to smart phones to tablets; there is always something in the works that will make it old tech within a few months. So chasing the latest and greatest becomes a game that you most likely will loose.

Can I get some advise please? First let me state I am not a very tech or software savvy person. My wife and I are finally getting a sprint smartphone ( we have the rumor and rant now ) My goal is to root the phone for 2 reasons – 1. Wifi hotspot and 2. Make the battery last longer – if that is even possible - We got an ipad and will use most of our internet experience on that device. With that being said I need some advise on which phone I should get that would at least allow me to get wifi from my phone.
The options are
My wife wants a phone with a keyboard so her options are between:
Samsung Epic™ 4G
HTC EVO Shift™ 4G
My preference is either: unless one of the phones above are better-
HTC EVO™ 4G (BLACK)
Nexus S™ 4G from Google
Wanted an evo 3d but heard that the bootloader (?) is locked and very hard to root.
Really comes down to which phones are better and more importantly which are the easiest to root to get the wifi?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
is not a question

You can use ODIN to flash a pre-rooted deodexed ROM with just one click. Doesn't get any easier than that. Its also super easy to flash your old phones MEID/ESN to the EPIC, if you don't want to upgrade you plan. Google my sig.
Sent from my SERO Samsung Epic™ 4G
duansindo- What do you mean this is not a question? DId I phrase it wrong? Cause I meant - What phone is the best to root? 4 options - Maybe I am missing something but that is the question?
I will google your sig if that will help..... Maybe the 4 phone's I listed are all easy to root? If so that is what I need to know... How to root would be the second part but I am sooooo oout of the know on what you said about flashing ect is greek to me... very very new to this. This is my first time posting so if I am posting this in the wrong area I am sorry....
Look up how to use ODIN for the Samsung Epic 4G. Then check the Epic 4G XDA forum for the rom/tar of your choice and further instructions. Its the easiest phone to manipulate IMHO. Cellphone flashing is not discussed here so u will need to look deeper into the void for answers on that. ESN/MEID numbers are your phones identity on the network. So changing them makes your new phone show up as your old phone. Technically its cloning, but essentially its the same thing as switching SIM cards on a GSM network.
Sent from my SERO Samsung Epic™ 4G
I would just wait for the new Galaxy S2 phones to come out first. The Sprint variant will be called the "Samsung Within 4G". The name makes it hard to find information about it online, so just research "Samsung Galaxy S2 for Sprint" for news about it. Its got Apple so scared they are suing their biggest parts supplier, Samsung.

prophour - Thank you that is VERY HELPFUL!!!!
It really comes down to what you want. All 4 phones can be rooted. Out of the 2 phones for you wife. Does she want a 3.6in screen or 4in screen? The Evo Shift screen is smaller then the Epic. The Epic does have a better display. Does she want HTC or Samsung. Personally I would pick HTC. I'm not a big fan of Samsung. They just don't have the product support that HTC has. Now for your phone. It's kinda the same decision. The Evo has a monster 4.3in screen. The Nexus S is no slouch though. It has a very nice 4in SAMOLED screen. The Nexus S is made by Samsung but supported by Google. Your phone pick is hard to choose from. I like both phones. I think I would choose the Nexus S. Any of the 4 would be a great phone choice.
I've rooted all those phones, the Evo is by far the easiest and noob friendly to root using Unrevoked.
See http://www.unrevoked.com/#evo
Hope that helps. I can tell you even if you do decide to wait for the EVO 3D you will most likely be much happier with that device even if it is harder to root and takes a while to learn how. It really is only a matter of time after it is released that some smart dev releases a comprehensive noob friendly guide on how to root it. I've had all those devices except the Galaxy S, my work buys me any sprint phone that I want when I want, its pretty nice. But so far I've been the happiest with the Evo and Evo shift. Evo is super easy to root and a great device! I would go with that one.
I could not be more fed up with the T-Mo G2x. I just listed it on Craigslist. I have had more problems with this phone that any other Android phone I've owned. I can not find a ROM that makes this phone run smoothly. I do not blame the devs in any way. They are just working with the crap that LG provided them. Anywho...to my question. I was wondering from those of you on T-Mobile what you thought the best replacement would be. I'm not eligible for an upgrade for another year so that is out of the question. I need a contract free phone and it needs to run on T-Mo's 3G or HSPA+ network. Thanks for your advice guys. I appreciate it. BTW...my budget is $350. My initial thoughts were either going back to a Nexus S, or going with an HTC Sensation.

Well.. If you have the option you should think about switching carriers. I have been on multiple carriers before, and so far I actually really like verizon. AT&T is a close second. If you don't want to switch/can't then I would recommend a HTC device. They are hard to root, but nice phones!
well, I run a Sony Xperia Mini on T-Mobile and I'm very happy with it.
It's a very compact phone though (which is exactly what I was looking for - the first Android phone I saw that is actually smaller than my trusty old Motorola Razr v3).
I would recommend you install the Swype keyboard in case you find the on-screen keyboard a bit too small.
I would say sell it again on craigslist or even on ebay...
at the time you could get a second hand samsung GSII
many great reviews on it
Get a skyrocket. Its just as good as a t989 and you get the bonus of an lte phone if you decide to go to at$t.

IMHO you can never go wrong with Motorola or HTC products. Avoid Samsung like the plague myself.
I had my HTC Hero for almost three years. I never had a problem with it, it is by far, the best device personally I've ever used. I got my ns purely for the Google branding.
Go for the sensation if that's the one you like. HTC for me was the best however, its only my opinion. My next phone will be HTC again that's for sure.

The sensation is right in your price range, i see them all the time on CL for around there usually a bit lower.

Used Skyrocket is the best idea, coming from TMO SGSII owner.
Fantastic device. Even the stock rom is great. Or, go Nexus or HTC if ICS matters more to you than better hardware. Skyrocket/T989 will get ICS, but God knows when.
I looked at some of the similar threads but they are old and devices change so rapidly so I am starting a new one.
I am looking for some thoughts, opinions, etc on a new device. I have to buy my device on Craigslist, eBay or somewhere because I have an old Verizon plan with unlimited data and can't upgrade without losing my plan and paying their upgrade fee.
I have been using a Toro Nexus on Verizon for about a year. I have been running CM10 and making updates as they are released. Recently my phone took a header out of my truck and now the screen is cracked. So, it is probably time to get something more up to date.
A couple things I am looking at evaluating are:
ROMS and development love available for devices. Which ones get the most love?
If I get something unlocked as in straight from Google like the Maguro would I be able to get a radio which works on Verizon?
Cost is a consideraton as well. For example I like the price of the S3 right now compared to the S4 on CL.
Any thoughts, opinions, facts, guidance, etc would be awesome!

the Galaxy nexus is a great phone it saddens me to see that you would like another phone. but im not you so lets get start with phone shopping shall we?
Google
I can see that you like all the rom and development for devices i happy for that!, most of the time you would want one of googles flagship phones that is plain ol stock android (nexus s, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 etc..) googles is so great to us since its stock android its much easyer to flash roms and put other goodies on our phones! i have heard the nexus 4 is one of the best phones around right now (not to mention the new white nexus 4 thats coming out soon with Android 4.3!) so if its on your provider i would recomend that from google!
Samsung
So from what you said you want a phone around the price of a S3, from that right there i would recomend a S3! Samsung does a great job with their phones its not the same stock android like the galaxy nexus they have spiced android up to what they call touchwiz which is a very smooth version for their launchers. a S2 might sound old but even that would be a great phone (i dont know about the specs galaxy neuxs might be a little newer so S3 might be better to get). rooting should be very simple all i had to do for my S2 was to flash a pda file from odin so its again easy to be able to join in on all the development. i think i have heard that the S3 (and maby S2) is getting alot of Goodies from the S4.
LG
i have only had some LG phones and in the past they werent so good but their newest flagship the Optimus G Pro is sposed to be aso good as the HTC one and S4 i dont think LG has their own type of launcher such as samsungs touchwiz, htcs Sense, or motorolas motor blur. so that probably means stock android and pretty easy to root and flash stuff.
HTC
the HTC dream was the first android phone, all of their phones are amazing i have had many of their devices, sense is a very smooth, sense 4.0 and up is sposed to be great. the One and its new blinkfeed feature i have heard can get old within a month or two so im not sure. about rooting with htc phones can be a pain. its different between each phone my droid incredible i had to unlock the bootloader turn s-on off downgrade just to be able to get root and cwm and its all a big pain, htc just dosent want us to screw with it maby. for my htc inspire 4g i had to just only unlock the bootloader and could flash a root from there but still was a pain, so if you can deal with some of the fears of easily bricking your phone you can try these phones!
there are alot of (im just going to call them third party but they arent really) third party phones such as huawei, ZTE, kyocera that some are deff better phones from these people that are better than the galaxy nexus just ask if you would like me to explain them!

Thank you for all the info. Much appreciated. The Galaxy Nexus (Toro) is a wonderful phone. I believe it is the longest running in my pocket. It broke my heart when it took a swan dive out of my truck Sunday. I would absolutely go with another of these. The question on that topic is could a guy get the Maguro to work on Verizon's CDMA network? I don't know that much about the hardware but I'd LOVE to try Ubuntu Touch.
There is a local guy who has an S3 advertised on CL for $175. I'd have to evaluate that guy first though. Would I be as happy with the development on the S3 as I have been on the Toro?
