I need a help and a few cab files. =P - Wing, P4350 ROM development

Ok, I make this simple and straight to the point, but first a little bit of explanation way i need the following help.
I made a personal stable rom a few months ago, and then i installed Manilla then i got the restart issue. (My Wing keeps restarting if the storage card is in.) And i wanted a very stable ROM for me to use, so i decided to make a better ROM, instead of flashing the same ROM i used before. Well, the rest is pretty explanatory, because everyone Flasher, knows that it is through trial and error that we make a stable ROM, i am almost getting my Stable ROM again. But i need a bit of help that i couldn't fix alone.
(Especial for Tribu, if you read this. Which I know you kind of will if you have the time) 1. I need a HTC Task manager, but i am using build 28232 and as you know ,if you have seen that build, it doesn't have the HTC Task Manager in the up right corner, because the clock is located there, so i would like to HTC Task manager to be Bottom corner like Tribu, did in his SD ROM.
2.My Comm Manager is currently 10 button Comm Manager by Tao a.k.a kaiser Comm Manager (10 Buttons), the letter become extremely small for some reason after a few Soft Reset which i have to do just to make sure if it is working alright. Here's a Pic: http://img688.imageshack.us/i/201006281332100001111a2.png/
When it's supposed to be like this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45495&d=1185791739
Yes, i did try to re-install it instead of cooking it in. Yes, i did try to raise the size of the font in the Settings. Is there anything i didn't do??
Thank You Alot even if you couldn't fix this problem, but just for taking your time and reading this. =)

Hey. You know me pretty well, lol.
Unfortunately I cannot give you the software I used because I was told not to redistribute the software. But I cannot stop you from unpackaging my ROM and looking through the software that I used
If you search the terms "Task Manager" (without the quotes) I am sure that you'll also find what I used.
I also recommend using build 23545 or higher as it uses a different dll setup than the previous builds. Thus being more stable
Now you can also change the font of your ROMs, for instance, download fonts that you want to use and then rename them to the fonts that I have in THIS cab file.

Hmm, I thanks, I try to learn people if they interest me. But it's quite difficult over the internet. lolz
Hmm is a new software or something? Unpacking ROM, hmmm sounds awesome.. Wish I knew how T_T
Yeah, I'll search up Task Manager in good and see what i come up with =D
I tried build 23545,(Since I really like your work) while building 28232 ROM, yes it's stable, but I assumed that the latest Builds would be catergorized by the ascending number, so I thought 28232 which was the highest build in the Ervius Kitchen would be the most Stable, obivously, latest isn't always the best. Nevertheless, I really am limited with my Wing, because I to rearrange my Phone stuff, so everytime i flash a new ROM, i rearrange which have gotten anoyying by now. I on the edge of getting this one to suit me, but if i get any problems that can only be solved by Re-Flashing i will work on 23545.
Also, where can I find fonts for my Wing?
Thanks alot for reading =D

Well, you can search Google.com for fonts.
But for the latest builds, you can search HERE for the latest build files.
You can use version 0.9 of Ivan's kitchen to unpackage a ROM too.

Ok, ill download Ivan kitchen and check out ur ROM, also, I installed ur Font but my Comm Manager is still messed up, i suppose it is the Comm Manager itself. Perhaps i can see if Tao have a fix for this.

Dude i found the Task manager you have. Dude, if i knew you in real life, i would give you a HUGE hug man.
Thanks again. God Bless!

I used to have the same problem with the storage card. I found that if you pop out the storage card until the 1st splash screen goes away, then put it back in while the phone is still booting, it's loads as normal. Wait to long and apps on the card won't load correctly and the icons won't show up.

Yeah, i figured that too =D, but I would rather sacrifice manilla than having to pop in and out my Storage card ={ I mean, Wing should have A LOT of storage and program memory.... We shouldn't have to deal lack of memory from the wing.

suggestions
I have got 31mb free ram on boot.
It is quite fast.
Suggestion
What to ADD:
New office2k7
New HTCtask manager 1.5
Audio manager
Java manager
New Sim manager
And Smartskey(it is one of the most useful application)
What to remove:
Customer Feedback
Error repoting
(I think these two are the most unuseful thing.)
Thanks, and there is no extended rom, and if you plan one then move it windows folder for G4 support.

Java manager (Left out as my Rom is made for the person that like min but useful, and this is not useful!!!)
New Sim manager (Took out as pointless, as with pimbackup on the phone, you dont need to save your contacts tot he SIMcard)
And Smartskey(it is one of the most useful application) I left it ou as it is not need!!! But you do have the button mapping, but i would not use it for boasting the CPU
New office2k7 Thought about this, and i did put itin there, but took it out again as the new one does not give much yet, as 2007 is not so widly used for the lose of rom space!!!
New HTCtask manager 1.5 Well did not know of this update, so i guess i could add it Do you know what is better?
Well I did not add the extended rom for that reason!!! So maybe will have to put the MMS stuff back in to the ROM
I think its bricked...
It finished flashing... went off... n now it wont start back up again....
Removed the battery and put it back in... its come on now... whew!! it sure gave me a scare at that point...
love the splash screens....
here we go with the set up...
Customising now... will update one its done...
its fast for sure...
Lotsa stuff i dont need... t zones... tmobile customisation...
CPU usage stays low between 1 - 3%. Will update battery drain once it settles...
One can get rid of error reporting and autoupdate... both are useless tools for a custom ROM
Have always had a problem with memory leak and suspect its because of tmail.exe... i use a lot of mail... outlook, windows live and sms put together would easily be more than 200 a day... this seems to be leaking as well... am already down to 25mb within an hour but that culd be because its updating my outlook mail... havent set up windows live yet...
more updates will follow in the morning... my wife's gonna lock the room door from inside anytime now...:-/

Ya the t-mobile stuff is just for this!!! If it gets lt out it will not have this!!! And t-zones is not in the rom!
Runs Great, But Phone Ringers Are Corrupted On My End Which Is No Biggy Man. T-Zones Dont Need To Be In There Cuz For Some Reason It No Longer Works Anymore. Might be the reason because T-Mobile Upgraded There New T-Zones For HTC Wing But Im Not Sure Just Know That When you Check Your Account It Wont let you. Another One you Should Add Musicplayer Today For Alittle Bonus And Add The new HTC Taskmanager Like Everyone Is Suggesting. Just So it Could Look Like A Stocked T-mobile Phone. I Love The Splash Screens. Really Fast But There Is A Battery Drain I Noticed But Might Be Because I have to let the battery drain first cuz I flashed. It Is At 50% And I dont have no push email, GPRS, Internet,Wifi, Or Bluetooth Running. I Would Hate To see when I Use Them It would Of Probably Already Been Dead! I Also havent Installed Any Program Either Everything Is Still Stocked. Also Recommend You Put Some Sort Of Battery Task On The Today Screen Like HTC HomePlug So You Can Check your Battery Life. But Pretty Much After That Runs Great Keep up The Good Job. I Will Still Monitor The Battery Situation More!

Hey Funman!
Here it goes to my results...
Top 10 Good points of the Rom
I liked the way you cooked!.
Clean, simple and fast.
It really is and I still didn't have to overclock! Nice!
Got 43.40 of storage and 30.02 of program memory. Ok for me.
Good Customizations like text reduced and folders
Top 10 Bad points of the Rom
Customer feedback and Error reporting could be really removed as it really means nothing.
Phone settings seems to be not working properly. When I tried to change ring tone and clicked OK button, I got nothing. I still kept on that settings tab instead of back to today screen. I tried several times without luck. But I think is just a little thing coz you may get away from that just clicking on today icon and choose today itself.
Noticed duplicated task manager: programs\accessories\settings and in start\settings\system folder.

In an overall and as my first impression, I loved it! You did a very custom ROM without a lot of craps and just cooking basic and usefull apps. Good job.
I'll keep going little more now installing my apps. Let you know what happened after that!
Great day Funman!

OK
But Java manager is useful as sim manager, not at the time but may be required in future coz there will be programs that will require java and same for Sim manager. But this is your choice, im just trying to make your rom perfect and complete.
And for new X button go here
im using it and it is very good no bugs.
And office2k7 is also essential coz there are new format (for eg: docx) which will run on new word only.
And yes there are two shortcut of taskmanager(dotfred), one is in programs/accessories/settings and other in settings/system.
Thanks

Where you heck are you seeing t-zones? IT is not in the rom!!! I have this running on my phone right now!!!
-No T-Zones,
-No Ring tones as I said above (just place a ring tone on your card in my documnets)
-Do you have a extended rom installed, as this is your problem with the batt drain!
I think i need to pull the rom and look at a coup-le of things, cus you should not be seeing t-zones for one thing! And i might move the extention to windows folder then you dont have the batt drain problem!
p.s Task manger is there two times out of design!
update: Ok I see why you had the problems with the ring tone!!! Cus you have not put a MP3 in your my documnet folder!!! The OS has put the default ones in but there are not in the rom!!! It must be a reg key or some thing I will look into getting rid! Well i looked at the ringtoens and i think the 3 defaults must be hard coded as i have not been able to find any reg keys that go with them.

So give me sometime to test your rom.
I will post my findings tommorrow.

Post install script

Is there instructions on creating a post-flash (or hard reset) install script? I'd like to have it run the cingular WAP cab, and maybe a couple others. I think I've been all over, but haven't seen anything...
Thanks!
Also - does anyone have a package or cab for camera 3.3???
Hi Matt... there are a couple of options...
First off, you could go the route that Faria does in his kitchen - effectively an Extended ROM folder under Windows. When the ROM install has finished and you've done the screen align, it runs the Extended ROM contents - just like the customisations you get in most operator ROMs. The advantage of doing it from a subfolder under Windows is that it works for G4 users as well as G3.
The other alternative is to actually flash your Extended ROM (this is what I've done, as mine is G3).
With the right files in Windows and Windows\Startup (CheckAutoRun.exe and CheckAutoRun.lnk respectively) and the registry entries set up for the appropriate location (I can tell you what these need to be), it will run no problem.
Is this what you're looking for? Faria also has a nice couple of utils that run during customisation and let you choose which operator's settings (GPRS and MMS) you wish to install. I guess these just run the appropriate CAB file based on your choice.
I am happy to help you set this up if it would be of assistance, having spent the last couple of days trying to get all this stuff up and running.

It sounds like your first point is what I was looking for - but up till now I've avoided adding / manipulating the extended rom to prevent issues related to it's use. I guess I'll have to cross that bridge sooner than later!
Is there a "howto" anywhere on it? I'd like to add the option for users to select post installation packages to run, in a nice and "foolproof" way - such as themes, WAP cabs, or whatever. Kinda like "drop your post install cabs in this folder" and it'll go ahead and add them during the rom build, then execute the install after flashing.
Thanks!

try this of course editing it to where you want it to point:
Code:

"AutoRunCFG"="\\Extended_ROM\\config.txt"
"AutoRun"="\\Extended_ROM\\autorun.exe"

I just found this link that has an extended rom in it. It makes a lot of sense, especially the txt file that directs the installation and then initiates a reset. Getting warmer!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=309922
So here's what I'm thinking - just initial thoughts:
Have a folder with the base applications that are used every time like AutoRun.exe.
The user places the cab(s) in the "add files to ext rom" folder.
They run an exe that reads the directory file contents, verifies file type, copies the files to the extended rom folder, and displays the list. I'd write it in VB, since I'm most comfortable with file system operations in that language...
They change the list based on the order they want them installed using up and down arrows to sort priority.
The click OK, and it creates the config.txt file, including all necessary commands such as reset and whatnot.
That way when they build, it's all good to go.
Any thoughts?
Slightly off topic but does anyone have a .CAB for TomTom6 (or know how to edit/make one) that doesn't require user input during the installation?
I am not looking for a hacked version of TomTom, just how to prevent it asking me where to install. .CABs that run from the Extended ROM can't ask for user input or it will crash the extended ROM installation as we know; I just don't know how to edit the ttn.cab to stop it asking.
Thanks
Andy
Hi Matt,
It does sound like the first option is the best - it's also the only way to get G4 compatibility. I think your idea to write a VB app is a good one - let the user choose which CABs to install to ExtRom, but I think u need to be very clear what you want to achieve. As this `ExtRom` is not actually in the proper extended Rom, but just a folder under Windows, you gain nothing really by installing programs from here, best just keeping it for operator specific settings and such.
The other issue with extended Rom installations, of any type, is that the config file must run to completion. if you put in cab files that require user input, the install will fail (at least from a proper extRom, maybe ok in this scenario, I don't know); likewise cabs that require or initiate a soft reset will cause an ExtRom install to crash. So, this sorts of limits what cabs can be used. mine puts in personal reg settings; no operator settings as I use wifi not gprs or mms.
Also - and I hope I'm not out of line here, or misunderstanding you - Faria has something that does exactly what u need in his fake ExtRom... u cld always ask him nicely for use of it, or r u looking forward to the coding?
My only other thought is the extra support burden a complex fake extrom scenario would generate, especially if ppl don't understand its purpose and stick stuff in that causes problems...
I hope this has made some sense - past my bedtime and I'm knackered LOL. Just my 2 cents, y'know?
Good work and all the best

That's really good info, because I'm climbing the learning curve as fast as I can here to get a good grasp on what the extended rom is, as well as how to use it. I appreciate the conditional warnings... better to know ahead of time than find out following a problem.
I'd rather use the true extended rom (as I understand it anyway), so I don't loose any additional space for the BuildOS programs. That is, assuming the extended rom is a seperate memory location than the base...
In another thread, someone is going to post that tool. I'm really interested in how it works.
If I can get all the concepts together, I hope to get a solid tool that will improve functionality in the ROM, without adding complexity or trouble... and I greatly appreciate the help!
Interesting thread...guys, you just gave me some new ideas.
Before that...there's one thing that's bothering me...
Can we use ExtendedRom on a G4 or not...lol I thought not, until me an Boto made a clean one from a G4 ExtRom and when Boto flashed it it worked , and he has a G4. Why we always say that we don't use an Extended Rom for G4 users ?
Normaly, a G4 should/would brick when flashing IPL/SPL not Extended Rom, am I right ?
We are shrinking the OS space to integrate features of the ExtendedRom in order to all people use it but is it that true ?
Ok, now back to my idea .. I want that in my next rom to include an extended rom, of course and make it that way so when you first start your PDA, it will act like when installing windows on the PC , asking you which apps or what options you want to use. I think i can manage to do that...still the question remains ...will G4 users be able to use it ?
Sorry for the delay writing back... I've been over in the G4 subforum trying to find out if they can flash Extended Rom. Some ppl have reported success using Faria's tutorial. Hopefully this is the case - what u said about IPL/SPL flashing is right, this seems to be a real problem, but if u can flash a radio-only Rom, why not Extended Rom?
What did u and Boto flash onto his G4? Blank Extrom or a cooked one?

Sorry for the delay writing back... I've been over in the G4 subforum trying to find out if they can flash Extended Rom. Some ppl have reported success using Faria's tutorial. Hopefully this is the case - what u said about IPL/SPL flashing is right, this seems to be a real problem, but if u can flash a radio-only Rom, why not Extended Rom?
What did u and Boto flash onto his G4? Blank Extrom or a cooked one?
Perhaps what we need is a guinea pig to try this out for us...!

I took the Ext Rom from the Wizard Love Rom and i edited the config.txt and deleted cabs ...that's it
Well, if it flashed OK... sounds like it might be usable after all But tell me, is Boto's G4 CID locked or unlocked? It's all very uncertain, but some of the G4 posts lead me to believe this may make a difference

Thanks

All I did for TomTom is install as normal and then copy the Navigator directory and My Documents\TomTomto my storage card where the maps, postcodes etc. are located. After any ROM upgrade all I need to do is create a shortcut in the start menu pointing at \Storage Card\Navigator\TomTom Navigator.exe No user input needed other than to pair the bluetooth gps and define a serial port.Hope this helps, it has worked for me after every change in ROM which has been quite a lot recently.

Thanks for that but it isn't what I was really after.... I am just trying to automate everything. I have flashed my ROM that many times recently and going through the install of TomTom each time is a bit of a pain. I have got a couple of .CABs in the Extended ROM OK and these work fine, I just thought it would be nice if I could get TomTom in there as well.

I didn't want this to turn into a "how-to" thread, but I'm still scratching for hard info on the extended rom, and as many questions out there, it might be a good one to clarify some details...
As I understand it now, there's two forms of "extended ROM":
1. The true extended rom "similar to the radio ROM"
There is some "trigger" that runs the contents of the extended rom, such as AutoRun.exe?
2. The 'psuedo' extended rom that is basically a post install script to run cabs.
The contents of the folder under windows are run from a trigger that resides in the startup folder - similar to a runonce in Windows on first boot?
Does this sound close?
Also, where does the 'true' extended rom reside? Does it use the portion of memory reserved for the OS, or is there another portion just for it? (so if by adding applications to the extended rom, your available storage memory will remain unchanged - less the installed application?)
I'm presuming then by the 'psuedo' extended rom, that it does consume ROM space, but simplifies post-flash cab installations - assuming you follow the rules...
From what I see, by using the 'psuedo' ER, you waste space by keeping the installation files in addition to the installed application files.
If I'm wasting space and time by asking these questions and you know of a good extended rom tutorial, please direct me to it. I have spend some time tonight searching, but a definitive guide still eludes me... Thanks!

Touch Software Collaboration

I wanted to get a thread dedicated to getting the applications out of the Touch .nb, and into the Wizard - and specifically the "cube" and "touch" functionality that is the trademark of the new phone.
Please save "oh, I'd like" or "oh, wow" stuff for other threads - this is a dev discussion.
Criteria: Working discussions on what's been done, what are we doing, and what could be done to get the excellent new features to work.
I hope that by sharing information - we can key in on the results much faster then everyone working on their own.

Here's what I've tried so far:
Using the 1413 as a base, I've taken and replaced the OEM folders from the touch build and replaced the 1413 folders -completly. This resulted in the phone self power cycling at the 3rd splash screen.
I've also taken the entire touch build, replaced the ROM contents with the one from 1413 (and I might have replaced the /SYS/OS folder as well - going off memory). This was the most successful, as I was able to boot the phone and get a lot of the touch's functionality. Issues were: SID Lock error, no "touch" function, and button mapping was wrong - only button 1 showed up on settings - buttons.
More info (a little)
Well, to follow up on my note in the other thread. I did pretty much what you did and ended up in the same place.
I did discover that the two other "raw" files in the original leak contained xip contents. I'm not sure why there are two of them, and they contain similar contents. I ran a build using the one I've labeled xip1 and it gave an error about missing build.rgu in buildos. I then ran a build using the one I labeled xip here (which has a build.rgu) and it built and booted, but worked essentially the same as when using an older wizard xip.
Anyway, time for bed now.
PS I tried to upload a zip of the two xip sections but it failed. Forum maintenance I suppose. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow if anyone seems interested.
Edit: Tried again to upload, failed.
I think we should start by the Dial Pad... I think it will be the easy thing to do.
Check this Hermes Rom:

Why not port the entire ROM ?
Just a thought.
BTW, from what I know, in order to make it work, you will have to use the XIP from the Wizard, not the one from Touch.
I have some work now...but i will try and do that bit later...today or tomorrow.

I also thought this... But now we have an official build from ms... I think it is a bit more stable than a ported version (if i'm wrong, please correct me).
@joaosousa:
I tried to port the Dialpad yesterday... But it seemed that I missed some needed files/registry hacks.... Still trying.

I also think we should keep the official build from ms... It's very stable...
any luck with touch dialer skin?
In all seriousness... the Today plug-ins for the HTC touch are fricking ugly.

For those who want to play...
OK, for those who want to play with the Touch Rom, here's a rapidshare link to download a "working" nk.nbf. I've also included total commander, and a registry editor for those who might want to tinker with getting things to work.
The main issues are these:
1) Pull the sim card before flashing, or you won't be able to to get to the today screen.
2) Since the elf is only a one button machine, most of the buttons do nothing, including the power button. You'll have to take out the battery to turn it off. (Unless you can figure out the registry changes needed to make it work.)
3) Don't worry about setting your timezone in the initial screen. You can set it later from the settings menu.
4) Be ready to flash back from bootloader mode when you're done exploring!
5) I pulled adobe acrobat, catalog, autoupdate. Everything else is pretty much stock. So you can get a feel for what's included, and what you might want to pull for use in the Wizard!
This is OS only.
Have fun!

Here's a question to those who have tried it so far: has anyone seen it working, or know which application controls the 'cube' function? Is it the biotouch app?

Yes, understood. I think the fact that it works just as well with either XIP just shows how similar the two machines actually are. Either that, or whoever "leaked" the rom included an appropriate XIP on purpose.

Fully Touch Rom. But it has been restructured to fit inside the partition settings of the Wizard.

New Wizard User Seeking Quick Guidance

I just got my first pocket pc in the mail yesterday. First off, I absolutely love it. I got the wizard - it was a very good price on ebay for the features, even if it is a couple years old (I think?). Regardless, it's a huge upgrade from a standard cell phone for a small price.
I've never used one before nor used windows mobile. It came with WM5 and I've managed to unlock and update it to WM6. I read somewhere that TNT.1437 was a stable release, so I installed TNT.1437 with TouchFlo. It seems fine, except I still get clocknot.exe notification every time I start (even after disabling auto update for time).
My main question is this - is TNT.1437 still a good release or is it getting old? If I remember correctly the thread hadn't had posts in a while. Is the newer TNT release near the top of the forum stable?
I am mainly looking for a stable release that won't mess up my calls. Even WM5 had huge improvements and features over my basic phone I had, so having the 'newest' software isn't really needed (although I don't mind it if it's stable).
Anyways, I'm just wondering if I should stick with 1437 or upgrade to something else before I start diving into it and installing my own apps and setting the phone up. If I do stick with it (or upgrade and still have the issue), is there a way to get rid of that clocknot.exe notification besides turning auto-update for time off, which doesn't seem to have worked? I also installed the trial version of memmaid as that was recommended in the same thread, it didn't find any notification issues.
Thanks in advance.
1st thing to remember is that it's not a smartphone. it's a pocket pc. Smartphone apps won't work on this (most at least) and vice versa although there are a few.
Smartphone's don't have touch screens.
My Experience
Here's the thread containing the latest TNT ROM and a lot of info on it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=367534
I'm using v1 of the last build and am having lockups on occation when the PDA is in standby. That said a lot of the posts indicate that sometimes you have to flash a rom several times or downgrade to a stock rom first before weird things go away. There was another post that suggested doing a soft reset followed by a hard reset after each rom is loaded to avoid rom instability problems. Also there was another post I read that said stability problems can be solved by using a specific utility (sorry name excapes me)that backs up the rom you just installed to your memory card and then reloading it from the memory card. None of this makes sense but I'm going to try these things if I can't get my lockup problem to go away with the latest build of TNT.
As for the notifications problem I fixed my through trial and error. Appearently there is a notifications queue or database that gets all screwed up. There are many tools out there (I used one called CheckNotifications) that let you fix the queue but in doing so you may break activesync and other automation. If found an app (FixASRunAt) that puts the neccessary entries back. I don't recall my exact procces for getting it working right but I do recall it took several passes at using both apps.
Good luck with your upgrade!
Welcome, I've had my wizard for two years flashed 5 or 6 roms, "its right" make good stable rom packed with useful software. I would suggest you read lots about any rom you install as if there are any problems its reported and usually fixed in rom thread.
If I might suggest Jaguar 4.0 rom, it is very stable and only a few programs leaving lots of space for you to test and add programs of your choice, you will want to try different programs. Some you stick with others will not be of use to you, the fun is in trying new things.
If you feel a little braver try the rom in my signature, I've had a few teething troubles but nothing major, anyway I can always change back.
Keep operator settings and instructions to hand, to make it easier when flashing, I also keep a list of installed apps so it is easier next time to remember what I use most often.
Finally welcome, there's now turning back now, it's addictive you know!
It most certainly is addictive.
Thanks for the tips thus far. I have one major question left - seeing as how there are so many ROMS out there, should I ever want to change to another one due to problems with the current one, or just to experience it, is there an easy way to keep program data and settings saved? There are certain third party programs that I would like to keep on the unit regardless of which ROM is running, so I'd like to be able to simply install them again and restore them to the state they were at with the previous ROM. I'm not sure how WM software works.
So far with TNT.1437 installed, I've just had a few problems, some of which may simply be the fact I'm new to WM and don't know what I am doing. It froze once or twice but that was it. It tends to run fine. The biggest issue I am wrestling with now is wifi connection. It always attempts to connect to previous wifi signals even when I am in a different location. If it would work as a laptop does (connect to a NEARBY wifi signal that you have provided a key for) then that would be great. But it keeps trying to connect to the campus network when I'm at my apartment, so I have to manually go in and figure out how to stop that and get it to connect to the apartment one here (out of like 10 options, which I only use one). Then I go to campus and I have the same issue and have to go in and make adjustments again. However, this is probably a WM issue and not a ROM problem.
As far as saving data or settings, I usually either back up the appropriate files to storage card or install to Storage card and just reinstall after hard reset. I don't think any back up utilities work if you change roms, but I'm sure some one will prove me wrong.
As for your second problem, I didn't even know it was one, so can't help you. Although thinking about it I've seen a program for assigning profiles to wifi connections or something along those lines, which is just what your looking for. Do a search. If I come across it will post a link for you.

Installing to a storage card seems like a good idea. When you install to a storage card, does it install the App there as well as data for the app? Do you even get a choice of where to do the install? Some files run as .exe on the desktop and then automatically install on the wizard. Others I have encountered have you copy a .cab file to the wizard and then just open it. Would you simply put the .cab file on the storage card and open from there? Is there a way to install via .exe to storage card?
I have a bunch of microSD cards around, so I'm waiting on a miniSD adapter to come in so I can actually use them with this phone. It will probably be easier to figure out once I have the adapter.
wow. ive had my wizard 5 months im still having problems understanding what i read about geting wm6 and touchflo. you experiance with do things allready?
Doesn't matter where you install from, when you get a storage card in, you are given a choice:- device or storage card.
Some don't like storage cards and after go on device memory, i.e. today plug ins. but its not written in stone, trial and error.
Thanks for all the help. It's a lot clearer than it was a few days ago now that I've played with installing some more.
My final question is this: I've learned how to install ROMS and search these forums for them (although I'm not sure on what each has to offer, as that will take some time). However, people mention when switching ROMs for whatever reason, the best thing to do is install an original ROM first, and then go on to whatever you want to install.
Where can I find the original ROMs for WM6? I've looked in the forums and did a search but didn't seem to come up with anything.
Would an original WM6 ROM work? Or would I need to flash back to a Cingular one with WM5 like it had when I first got it?
Anyways, just wondering about this. I imagine I just do it the same way I flashed the TNT ROM, but need to get a copy of the original ROM saved for future use.
Thanks.

Although the wizard was tested my MS with wm6, it was never released as stock. For stability, always flash your carrier rom before a new rom (wm5... you can get it at htc)
Octavio's roms have been the most stable for me. 6.3 with wm6.1 works great. Also check out www.pointui.com for another type of touch interface. I think you would like it.
Oh... and don't become like us. I flash the rom now more then i use it. Dang things addictive.
Alright. When you say I can get it from HTC, are you referring to this URL?
HTC Download
I just want to make sure I am saving the correct version to revert back to in between ROMS. The site doesn't really provide much description about what it is.
Edit: I tried to install the ROM from the URL above, but it gave an error and said I need a newer update utility. Not sure why...Anyways...Can anyone provide a link to where I can find the original ROM I should flash to between other ROMs? If it makes a difference, I have Cingular (AT&T) - originally had WM5 now it has TNT.1437 (WM6) and I went through steps for hardSPL if that makes a difference (IPL 2.21.0001 SPL 2.21.01ip) as seen on the wiki. Phone is a G4 and works fine other than a few bugs / freezes up on ocassion, but I'd like to try other ROMs
EDIT: The ROM above did work, but I had to remove the HardSPL I had added earlier. That must've been the problem. After removing it, I installed stock ROM without any trouble - time to try a new ROM!

[PreRelease BigStorage] Just2Clean and Two New Kitchen [Updated:04.22.08]

Update: 04/22/08
This is a release for the ROM and the porting kitchen. It does not port XIP's, yet, just SYS folders, but it does what it needs to do. I haven't tested it in more than just one port, though. The one I did test came out perfect, though.
The ROM has 63.XXmb FREE storage and 31.XXmb free with SD RAM.
To flash it you MUST have a HardSPL'ed Herald or Wing and a microSD card. Just place the HERAIMG.nbh into the SD card's root directory. Do NOT rename it to anything else. Then hold the camera button down while you turn on the device and then press the volume down slider when it asks you to. Wait until it says it's done. I haven't tried to run any activesync other than to an exchange server so tell me if that isn't working.
I'll be done with finals this week and then I can finally work on the other kitchen.
I'll upload it when I come back from school.
Update #2: 04/14/08
Just added a screenshot. Mind you, this is WITH SD card AND after I installed my "troubleshooting" tools.
Update: 04/14/08
60mb of FREE storage space.
32mb RAM with no SD
30MB RAM with SD
No compression (I'll probably released a UPX'd version, as well...)
Fixed all bugs found so far except for two. Maybe you guys can help me figure them out... the sad part, I've fixed these same two bugs countless times in my other ROMs, but I just can't remember how I did it. lol
1. Comm Manager: It doesn't matter what comm manager I place in there, it still boots up the built in comm manager. (The one that Tmobile has anyways.)
2. The Vibrate button. I have all the files and I have it setup so that it vibrates when you hold down the comm button, BUT it keeps trying to open VoiceCMD even though I deleted all visible entries for it...
Update: 04/03/08
Ok guys. Here's some info on my current projects.
1. Just2Clean is almost done. I just have to fix some bugs. The OEM is from an unreleased Wing ROM, the SYS I ported over using... well keep reading.
2. My phone currently is running currently has 62.38mb total of storage... and I was able to shrink the extrom and use that ROM space for storage. Granted, you need to have HardSPL and a memory card for this to work, but it's awesome. This ROM is also so small and stripped that it's the fastest ROM I've ever used and I don't even have any tweaks on it, yet.
3. Kitchen 1: PPCBuildOS: Unfortunately, I haven't had time to work on porting it, but after I get Just2Clean fixed, I'll be working on it. AWESOME kitchen. The creator is so willing to help, too. Made me a developer of the Atlas section (Herald compatible so no worries for those Herald users.)
4. EasyPortKitchen. So far, I've got it porting SYS folders just fine. I haven't been able to setup XIP porting, but that's because I still don't understand the process behind it. If someone wants to explain it to me, I'll be able to finish this kitchen. So far, Just2Clean had its SYS folder ported in this way.
EDIT: 5: I plan to release the ROM with language packs for the kitchen. Then you can just check on the language you want the ROM to be in while building the ROM.
New Post
Ok, change of plans.... I'm currently working with the makers of PPCBuildOS to make an Atlas/Herald version of their kitchen. It's currently being developed with JustClean, but it will eventually be released with my Just2Clean. (That'll be the new name.) That kitchen is AWESOME, btw. ^_^ Makes my kitchen look like a pitiful script kiddy toy.
Just2Clean will be a WM6.1 stripped down better than JustClean was, more modulized and with its OEM based on an unreleased ROM.
I'll keep you guys posted but I'm not sure of how much I can talk about now that I'm helping develop the Atlas/Herald side of it...
Old Post
A few things that I've been thinking about on my "off" time... basically, the time that I'm just unbusy enough to have my own personal thoughts outside of work or school related ones. lol
All these ROMs would be compatible with my kitchen.
1. SuperClean - A ROM built with lots of compression and minimal programs. The point of this is to be the "bigstorage rom" where you can't even flash it normally because it doesn't meet the size requirements of the RUU/SPL.
2. JustClean2 - Based on an unreleased OEM from an unreleased ROM that I made before I switched to WM6.1. It's based on a Wing ROM... but it has potentials. It just feels faster and it seems to take less space than the current Herald base I'm using. Not to mention that some people are having issues with Herald based ROMs and some bluetooth enabled items.
3. OldClean/NewClean - SuperClean and JustClean2 may have both WM6.0 and WM6.1 versions... I find that, although WM6.0 is slower, it also takes up less space (and therefore can net more storage space) and some people don't seem to like a lot of the WM6.1 features.
What do you guys think? Which would you like to see first? If any? Any better ideas? (And no, no ideas about which programs should be in it, you already have my kitchen for that.) Oh, and the kitchen would become modular, the JustClean1 ROM would be released seperate from the Kitchen.
I'm itching for a ROM as quick as my old WM6.0 ROM, but I haven't had as much luck getting the Herald ROM to run as quickly.
BTW, has anyone ever used my old CleanROM with the Herald keyboard driver? Did you ever have any issues with it?
I vote for a newer WM6.1 built than the "old" 19xxx - there were newer ones outside before bepes kitchen ROM but thy had ActiveSync problems...
Maybe now there are new builts.
OR if not i vote for WM7...hahaha
ALLL the "clean" crap doesn´t make sence to me... why to have a clean rom and then install all by cab.
I ONLY cooked a rom because i was sick of installing all cabs
lol
Good to see ur back to cooking roms
Well i Love the functions of WM6.1 so just about and clean 6.1 rom you cook will be great
so i'd guess from ur descriptions that'd be SuperClean...
Edit: I also use the Office suit a lot but i can add that by a cab, since i know most clean roms dont have it since it takes quite a bit of space

These ROMs are meant to be used with my kitchen. That way they can add what they want and what they want only. Some people just don't use any programs and want the available storage space for other reasons. (Like photos.)
The SuperClean would attempt to create a lot more free space in the ROM. (For example, I have 54.93mb total (I've got a few files saved so I'm not sure how much I had free at first) currently in the ROM I'm currently using and it's no where near optimized and it's one of my fattest unreleased "SuperClean" ROM's that I have ever made.
Imagine being able to get 60mb free WITH all the apps that you use. It would be awesome.
Well at the moment i have a 4GB Memory Card, but reguardless i preffer to use cean roms as they tend to be faster and have more program memory available.
Especially since i use Point UI and dont rly care about today plugins
I vote for just a 6.1 Rom w/ good tweaks (and ready to go for tmo usa) and no extra programs.
BTW, has anyone ever used my old CleanROM with the Herald keyboard driver? Did you ever have any issues with it?

Yes I have, and no issues at all.

I did, but there were some serious issues (I can't remember which though). I had reporeted them in CleanROM thread for sure.
BTW, when are you going release final of your oven? I need to fix several small issues in my custom ROM, but I'm too lazy to do so with current version

And THAT is the problem ... even with 63MB program storage... we will NEVER get more than 32MB free RAM (memory)
to get more storage for apps or even cach is not the problem. BUT getting more RAM is not possible.
But as a clean rom for cooking - OK
but then:
- no skinning
- default looking
- only left what is needed for running system (phone, base apps)
and than we can cook....
thx
AND why don´t we have this OS "System 5.2.19202 (build 19202.1.0.0)"????
the kaiser people have it..

I took a look and found out the kaiser guys have 5.2.19716. How do I extract the OS from their roms? I gotta have that build!
Must... Cook... Rom...

I'm currently learning how to port properly for that specific reason. 19202.1.0.0.
As far as the skinning goes, the final should have the option to have no skin. I'll work on that. The base should have a few things disabled. I'm also working on that. As far as RAM goes, I've gotten up to 38mb free before, but it was missing a lot of items... I could always just modulize the whole ROM and let people choose EVERYTHING down to if they want bluetooth support or not. This can net some pretty nice amounts of free memory. It's just more work for me.
I am also thinking of modulizing the MUI's in the ROM, effectively allowing people to just download language packs. Doubleclick on the file, wait until it does its thing and then you have a French ROM, or a German ROM, or whatever...
It's not that I can't do it, it's that it takes time.... time I don't have.

It seems to me that the 6.1 ROM is a bit faster when doing some things (like opening the windows folder using total commander) is involved - but I think the 6.0 can be tweaked to be just as fast? I would be very excited to try either your SuperClean or JustClean2 as long as the ROM is based on Wing.
I used your CleanROM for quite a while with NO problems but on a Wing.
Update on the first post.

^_^ Makes my kitchen look like a pitiful script kiddy toy.

yay new kitchen!
wow, can't wait to try the superclean (superfast???) rom
Let us script kiddies get our toys!
Updates on the first page!
So it will come with the same kitchen like JustClean?
62 megs...sounds cool. I hope it will be possible to stuff the rom with office etc. and flash it as usual.
Not with the same kitchen. With a new GUI kitchen that the guys at PPCkitchen.org have made for other phones. I'm just helping them port it to the Herald/Atlas.
The EasyPortKitchen is something you would use to port a ROM.
You can install anything you want on it. All my ROMs are always minimal and allow you to install whatever you want on them.

That's the best of your releases. Just a clean package so everyone can add what he needs, noone has to have stuff on their phone that they don't like. It's simply a Good Thing (tm).
