Unlocking NAND partitions. - Desire Android Development

Wouldn't it be possible to port the ENG-SPL from the Evo to the Desire?
Where did the evo guys get there ENG-SPL? Cant we get it from the same place?

Go to htc, 2. Door on the left side.
Stairs down to developmentsection.
Boot up one offen their pc's
And. Upload the eng.spl
Then we can have it. ..

nice one why the hell didn't someone before come up with this brilliant idea
besides the eng-spl of the evo is pointless for the desire because of total different device only a eng-spl that was made for the desire can help the devs here! nothing with porting ect....

This is a very Good Question ! How did they get there hands on the ENG-SPL ?
Is it a Leaked one or did someone Modified the SPL?

how can I see it. That the SPL a Eng-SPL is ?

Yeah how did they get it?

Didn't they give the device out at Google I/O? I would expect it to be a dev device then. But, I'm probably wrong.

Its not a conspiracy and this spl probably is rootable but NO DEV is working on it, everyone who ever worked on rooting went over to N1 (sorry if im mistaken) .
Another thing, previous SPLs were rootable, but newer ones are "perfected" as they werent ment to be rooted in the first place.
Oh one more thing, the htc sense ui update is considered a good thing, look at how many hero rom useres there are.

No more custom roms on the new Htc devices?

Ive seen in a couple of sites that the thunderbolt has an ecnrypted bootloader, now the incredible s has it too, did the desire hd/inspire 4g had this also? i was thinking of getting the htc pyramid, but this is turning me off A LOT

I read the same thing. I was thinking about grabbing the evo 3d when that comes out. But I'm after reading that article, I'm almost certain that evo 3d will have a encrypted bootloader.

Doesn't mean it can't be re-rommed.
The galaxy tab I'm currently using had signed bootloaders, they aren't a problem anymore.
The devs here will figure a way around it.

Wow, hopefully they don't turn into Motorola when it comes to that.
More glad than ever I stuck to my guns and got my Android then.

Not trying to argue, just curious...
If this is the case, why is the Atrix getting so much crap for having a locked bootloader? And if I remember, designgears (who, from what I gather, is a pretty respected dev in the community), gave up on trying to crack it. Why would trying to crack an encrypted HTC bootloader be any easier?
I know nothing about encrypted bootloaders, so really I'm just asking this question for informational purposes.

Well the way I see it since more phones are moving to encrypted bootloaders, like the new htc's and the moto blurs more hackers/devs are going to be forced to learn how to crack it. I wouldn't say it is impossible as much as I would say it is just a matter of time.

Motorola tried this with the Droid X, and it failed miserably. The devs found a way around it in like two weeks. The encrypted boot loader was supposed to be the end of modding the droidx, but that lasted a few days. No worries, the devs can get a work around.

errrr , the droidx booloader has NOT been crack, they only have half baked roms , they have 2.3 roms because a 2.3 rom leaked from motorola, otherwise they'd still be stuck on 2.2
I guess that just means that the Android devs that work for HTC and MOTO are a tad smarter then the ones that work for apple.
Shame that they are putting that knowledge into locking the phones down though.

There's a diff between locked and encrypted/locked. The htc inspire has a basically locked boot loader but isn't encrypted. There's also a diff between rooting and flashing custom roms. Even the atrix is rooted, but the bootloader is locked down thus no custom roms.
The news media doesn't seem to understand the terminology. I still don't know for sure if the thunderbolt bootloader is actually encrypted or just locked and won't until I hear from a dev who knows what he's talking about.
Then if it is, there's the question of how it is encrypted. A shame either way. We can thank the crotchety carriers like at&t for pressuring this.

Not necessarily. With the Thunderbolt the signed keys to unlock the bootloader fell on someone's lap. It was really mere luck. WIthout the signed keys it's impossible to unlock the bootloader. Perhaps the same key fairy will deliver the unlock code to the Sensation, but short of that, unlocking a signed bootloader is next to near impossible.
Deng, I was about to wait for the Sensation too. I made the right choice buying the G2x. Can't wait for more development on this!
Well this is good news to me as it merely proves to me that I made the right choice. This phone is barely 3 weeks old and we already have 17 CM nightlies. Yea I'm good. Glad I didn't torture myself by trying to wait.
The sensation will be another physically huge phone, too. it seems like that's all htc makes anymore - evo, inspire, thunderbolt, sensation - w/ the exception of the incredible. i had an evo for almost a year (launch day last june) and while it was a great phone, it always seemed just a little too big for me. the g2x is just the right size, imao.

Correct, it's not hardware locked which Moto did with eFuse. But anything not signed with the proper keys won't work. So in effect, it's just as bad as what Moto did, difference is that HTC is doing it at the software level.

Does it really matter. Coming from the vibrant I like to mod. But I still like the sensation. Its just not quite what I want.
The dedicated games to the tegra. The vanilla android. The dual core for multi tasking. Modders dream. That is the g2x.
Not the sensation.

thanks for this. I want to ask a quick question, off topic but in the same vein. I am noticing that they are feverishly working on cracking the bootloader for the EVO 3D and there are tips and tricks coming from that phone to us. I know a few people that had the HD2, along with me, that left t-mo for the Evo3D once they saw the specs. Just curious. thanks for the post again.

We'll have to keep an eye on the EVO 3D for hacks. Most of T-Mobile USA's best tinkerers aren't on the Sensation yet, while many of Sprint's have jumped from the EVO to the 3D. Thankfully the phones are similar enough that we should benefit pretty well.

I think it's a function of the difficulty of jumping carriers in the US. The 3D is the first tempting Sprint phone to come along since the first EVO so the devs are moving to it. On T-Mobile, we've had the MT4G, G2, and G2x as hacking options, so the community has been splintered a bit. I think once we get the Sensation cracked open, plenty of devs will come work on it. They're just not leaving their other root-friendly phones yet.

Here's another simpler solution
I downloaded the app Volume+ from the market. There is also a free version at the developer's site: androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread/download
I was able to raise the media volume so high I had to lower it some.
Downloading QPST now will feed back in a while.
it's a no go for me.
QPST is software for CDMA handsets.

Nobody working on s-off

I've been looking around the internet and I see no progress on s-off. It looks like the one x is close but why is no one willing to work on s-off for our one s. I've heard talk of piggybacking off the one x s-off solution but that is getting us no where. If I had the ability and know how that's what I'd be doing so can't one of our few dev's stop making ROMs and make some real progress on this. I have a lot of respect for our developers don't get me wrong but why not work on something that'll make a big change. That's the way I see it and I figured maybe by sharing my thoughts and people getting on board we can get something done on this phone. I'm tired of having to flash boot.img's in fastboot and I'm sure others with higher hboots are sick of it too. Its a big inconvenience for people who are not always home and downloaded the latest ROM over WiFi. Doesn't s-off make it easier for the devs so why not?

And there's a HUGE difference between a rom developer and someone who could actually get S-off on a device. Not many people can do it.
Technically, ROM makers are considered "chefs" and being a developer is actually more work isn't it?

This kind of talk is so depressing for people like me who were on the fence about getting this device lol. When I had the offer to get the HTC One S I first looked in these forums and seen a lot going on, so I thought it was well supported but it wasn't til after i got it that I dug a little deeper to find out things like this. And now here I am stuck with the higher hboot. Very depressing but hey, it's still one of the best phones out. It just seems it is gonna turn into an EOL device. If you don't understand the difference between a Rom developer and a team of people that can break the security created by large multi-national corporations maybe you don't have a right to complain?
Besides the majority of the need to do it has already been removed. The only real reason that you would want to do it now is to not unlock the bootloader through HTC dev and we already know the method to avoid that anyways.
Just a run down on what we CAN do with s-on
Root
Unlock Bootloader
Change Radios
Change Kernels
Super cid
And most phones can SIM unlock also
What exactly are you hoping S-off will achieve?

yeah, they sure did have motivation, I guess people are getting sick and tired of achieving something that we shouldn't have to achieve. almost every other manufacture allows their bootloader to be unlocked, etc. HTC is going to have to make more changes if they want to succeed in this market.

Yeah but the time it took to get to this point distracts dev's from even considering purchasing this phone. DOA

..Change recoveries.
We do have a big difference between the 'old' and 'new' hboots, tho.
The older ones can flash pretty much anything from normal recovery. The newer hboots are way more restricted. Even if we can't get permanent s-off, it would be very nice if we got the means to downgrade hboot to 1.06 or 1.09.

Great idea! Let us know when you get us s - off...
One, as previously stated that is a serious pain especially when there's no good place to start. It's completely different than making roms. Next I had the amaze long after they achieved s-off which people threw hundreds of dollars and hours into... Guess how much changed because of it? Nothing really changed. And so here you are asking devs who already take tons of their free time to do this for free. And you're asking them to go out of their way to do more so you can save 60 seconds when you are flashing a rom. This sounds incredibly lazy and selfish. It's not that hard to go to fastboot and flash a kernel. If you want s-off you should have at least made a better argument than that you're lazy...

Its not the fact that I'm lazy its the fact that I'm never really home to be able to access my computer I work almost full time and go to college full time maybe you shouldn't call someone lazy before you know the real story it makes you look bad if I had more time to get on a computer I wouldn't have made the argument in the first place. I'm not here to start arguments I'm here to get something to change and if all your going to do is jump my **** then go somewhere else.

I too am in this thread to get something to change. I want people who work almost full time and go to college full time to stop what they are currently working on and start working on S-OFF. Seems like a dumb request huh? That's what you're asking the dev to do......

I get ya, but it really came across as, it's a pain to boot to fastboot to flash a kernel. Which sounds incredibly lazy. Because it doesn't take long at all. I probably came across harsh I get that. But at least if you're asking devs to do something for you at least offer something, some help, suggestions, time, donations, something. I don't think it's good practice to come in asking devs who are busy and already do all this without asking anything in return to cater to just your needs. When you are not offering anything in return and even donations are to show appreciation. Most devs do have a life and as stated above me, are busy as hell too. So remember before asking this that you wouldn't have anything to complain about if the devs weren't already sacrificing their time, because you'd have no roms to flash to even be concerned with changing kernels.
