Project Emerald
If you are using Google you probably know as much as I do. This is where I read about it goo(dot)gl/Qdri
But on t-mobile's twitter they have been giving clues to something new and exciting and I think it could be the twist or Samsung's galaxy s.
Clue's:
1.) Here’s your first clue. What do T-Mobile and the best-selling PC game of all time have in common? #T-MobileClue
2.) Have you figured it out yet? Clue #2. It’s super slim but full of muscle. #TMobileClue
3.) Have you guessed our big news? Clue #3 "Never miss your favorite TV shows or the score of the big game."
With a simple search we know that the best PC game is The Sims (TM) and their logo is an emerald goo(dot)gl/HeSI so this big news could be the sidekick twist. And it could even lauch as early as 6/21 or 6/28 goo(dot)gl/MYoE
But I really hope this thing comes out soon, I can't wait much longer.

There are so many roms around there an one thing I cannot find is at a fundamental level,(user level) what do we gain out of using the hero rom rather than the regular g1 OS?
Is there a killer app that only works on hero? is the hero interface, better? majorly different? would like to know, please?
Could you really not find it, or did you not look? This isn't even remotely close to being in the correct section either..
To sum it up however, HTC's "Sense UI" that is implemented on HERO is essentially a home replacement (like openhome, ahome, etc...). It features many graphical enhancements as well as widgets that are not available on the stock android builds.
This link will tell you everything you need to know:

Its mostly cosmetic. Everything in HERO looks better than standard ota 1.5 android. I weighed the options of running HERO ROM or Cyanogen and HERO came out on top. I just love the way HERO looks. I love it so much, that I gave up use of my blue tooth headset.
.....the only thing I can suggest is to do some research on a "proper" installation of a HERO ROM and experience it for yourself.
toxtrepla:
to the first point, yes I looked, there is no site, thread that just has that simple explanation. I'm sure it's there, it's just buried.
Point 2. yeah, your right. my thinking was this is a forum full of hero and non-hero roms, so it would be good here, but really, I could have put it elsewhere. Thank you very much for the info.

Thanks for the pic.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check it out. as soon as I get time to clean out my sdcard.
thanks all again.
If it were only the eye candy.... What sets Hero apart is the way it integrates your social network in one place. Right now there's support for Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Plurk, Picassa, Google, and your Exchange contacts. All of those can be merged, so say, if your friend Sally from work ([email protected]) has a twitter and facebook account, you can exchange tweets quickly and the phone will notify you they're from Sally. Also, you're out and trying to decide which pair of shoes you should get for Saturday night's ball, and you can't decide, you snap a quick picture, uploaded to your facebook (right from the camera app) and then tweet Sally to help you choose, be quick, though, your wife's almost back
@rkimbal45
What the first guy meant was you didn't look to see they have a Q&A section for what you asked, which was a question... From my point of view you have no investigative skills which led you to asking this question and not being able to find the proper place to ask it.... but hey who really post their questions in the Q&A now-a-dayz?
PS. Q&A=Questions and Answers

Chloe O'Brian was flipping through some scanned images on her phone. It looks like a Nexus One, but slightly different. What do you guys think?
I tried searching the web, but having '24' as one of the key searches lead to a lot of irrelevant search results.. :-(
I made some screen captures.. this was the scene where Chloe was by herself in on of CTU's conference rooms.. about mid-way through the episode.
Welcome to forums
I am a long time viewer of 24
It certainly looks similar to a Nexus, perhaps one of the branded always nasty carrier modifications
Thanks for the welcome.. Sorry if this was my first post.. I just got excited when I saw the phone on 24.. :-D
That's the Sprint version of the HTC Hero
I guess you're correct.. thanks karnovaran!!
Just saw on the net.. it is indeed the Sprint Version of HTC Hero..
I have gotten a chance to play with the Samsung Transform.
Let me tell you it’s like a mini HTC EVO.
Once we get all the bloat ware off of it it’s going to be a great phone.
Great alternative if you don’t want an evo with the premium data plan.
I have a rooted EVO and i love it but i rarely use 4G.
I just got one today as well. Can we PLEASE get a Transform section?
I was really excited to get one of these (no $10/mo 4G charge) but I went to the Sprint store and used the demo. Choppy, choppy, choppy. It confused me so I looked into it and it turns out that - according to Sprint via Endgadget - the CPU lacks OpenGL acceleration. If this is true, it's either a grave oversight or an evil manipulation by Sprint/Samsung.
I look forward to seeing what can be done with this phone - it deserves its own section for sure - but first impressions are that this phone needs a lot of help.

The one I tried at the Sprint store was incredibly choppy as well. The Sanyo phone that just came out with Froyo ran a lot better in store. When I got my Samsung Moment I didn't use Sprint ID and it ran loads better than the one in the store. I also changed to Launcher Pro and now it's zippy.
bump cmon we need a section...
Yes please, so we can have developers talk about root!
This is a great device and a very nice upgrade from the hero. I forgot how much I missed having a physical keyboard. I also put on launcher pro and it seems very responsive. However, it could use some tweaks - for sure...
bump................
I will bump as well:
I have always relied on xda for my phone altering needs and I love this site... I just got a Transform which is missing 2 things in my opinion, android 2.2 (coming this year maybe?) and it's own section on xdadevelopers.
If any mods are reading this I am including my vote for a new section to be added for this phone.
Thank you!
Go to sdx-developers I'm sure they can help...not many transform owners or devs here since most people with sprint have an evo, epic, or hero
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
I think we need a section for the transform also....
http://forum.sdx-developers.com/index.php#c24
Those guys have a Transform section. As a matter of fact most of what they do is Samsung phones.
Wait, wait, wait! Are the XDA-Developers going to let another site steal the limelight??? Noooooo! Come on, do it for ME! LOL I have used this site for over a year now with several different devices and can honestly say there is no better site or community. I also know that some of the devs are on more than one site, which is totally fine. Create the section so some of the sdx devs can post their work here as well.
I have an Evo and even that phone wasn't perfect to begin with. It was XDA-Developers who made it the glorious and sexy thing my Evo is today. The Transform suffers from bad development, and all it needs to be a great phone is the same thing - XDA-Developers! Let's get this device up to speed!
I'm getting my wife a Transform on Black Friday (free that day only at Radio Shack) and really want to be able to use xda for both our phones.
Come one, I'm begging you! Seriously! I'm on my knees typing this, tears streaming down my cheeks! The ones on my face, um, not the other ones. But I'll do that too if it'll get us a Transform section!
+1 we need a transform section. I have a G2, but my dad just got a Transform. I don't know if it's cause I'm used to the G2 monster but good hell this phone is SLOW and preloaded with so much garbage. Seems to me that theres not much in the department of rom's for Samsungs in general, I can't find any that I like on a Vibrant either.
Does anyone know of a working flashlight app for the transform?? When does it get the OTA? I read that it will get 2.2 last quarter of 2010 but that didn't happen. My dad is getting extremely mad at his phone, and it's issues that FroYo Fixed on my phone.
Yes We Do Need A Transform Section....
I Couldn't agree more that we need a transform section... I don't own one myself but I put my GF's Sister on my plan and got her a Transform. Now I know SDX already has a Transform section BUT There are quite a few people out there who don't know about SDX and I really thought XDA was trying to be all inclusive... Hell we got a Evo_Shift section like the day after the phone dropped so IDK if we are going to get a Transform section here, Also I know there are Issues that people who are willing to dedicate their time 2 keeping up with the forum (IE moderators) and honestly it seems like when the Mods start slacking the forum goes 2 crap, look 2 the Epic Forms and you'll see what I mean, But yeah I was really let down when I brought the Transform 2 my house and was getting ready to root it, ROM it up and Possibly get sum themes going, See where they were at with speeding it up and doing it big, yet I spent 5 min on XDA before I realized that I would be creating a SDX account, To this day I don't understand why the Transform is so overlooked, Maybe its because the Moment and Intercept were such fails... yet they both have sections here, Who Knows. I just thought I would throw in my .02 on this as I really don't get why the transform hasn't seen much love even tho it has loads of potential I guess In the mean time it will continue 2 be overlooked...
Please read the latest announcement. by our administrator, it addresses the part about getting a new section added.

I'm dumbfounded reading this. Not that the logo of a ROM makes any difference in how awesome it is, but this is just awful. It's creepy and scary looking.
Thankfully someone already made an awesome boot animation for CM9 for OpenSensation using the old logo. I'll just stick with that.
This thing give me the creeps. I mean I know it's CM's business how they want to market their freeware product. They own it. They give it away for free. So they can do what they want with it. But new is not always better.
Personally I don't see why they felt the old logo was immature. Android uses the green version of the exact same logo. And as their market share of mobile OS increases it doesn't seem like the logo it holding them back. Plus it was fun! I understand if they wanted to ditch the skateboard, but not the whole logo.
Changing a logo that is well branded is dangerous business. Remember when The GAP tried to change their logo last year? There were damned near riots in malls across America from customers who hated the new one. When you have successfully branded your product, don't futz with it. Brand recognition is 100 times more important than logo 'freshness'.
But that's the great thing about Android. If you don't like something, you can completely remove it, change it, or hide it!
Thoughts?
The new one lacks maturity, looks like some asshat kid who wants to pick a fight with you just because.

Yeah that describes it well. Its getting panned on every website that has a comments section, including the official cyanogen blog.

I think it looks a bit evil sometimes but not too bad IMO.
I do think removing the skateboard from the old logo and freshening it up bit would've been better.
I guess I'll get used to it.
I don't mind it, but I thought the skateboard was cute haha

I think the new mascot looks more juvenile and immature then the previous one. It is kind of hard to say "mature" with a skateboarding alien as your mascot. Some times simple is better. I'm thinking a big cyan "C" with the circle arrow. clean simple and it wouldn't look like a bathroom logo.
Sorry i had to.
If this design is kept maybe they could come out with pinkgenmod for the ladies. make this logo pink and put a dress on her.
This is why they are developers, and not graphic designers.
LOL! that aint a good look guys. Keep the android geezer.
I lol'd..whoever did that should be shot.
credits to the artist that mad that I'm sure it took hard work to make it but I think it looks horrible
Wow....the guy who runs the CM blog is getting testy. He's got a post up in the comments section (where the new mascot is being ripped to pieces) basically saying people are allowed to make comments about tweaks they'd like to see but that people aren't allowed to outright hate it.
Wow. Overly sensitive much?

"people aren't allowed to outright hate it"...?
If you (CM) are going to send your product into the world (even though it is free of cost), you are in some way expecting it to be liked, maybe even loved.
However, it depends on your product. People will like what they like. You can't develop a product for just yourself & expect everyone to love it. If you need everyone to love it, you have to make for them, which means incorporating their suggestions.
How can they expect people to NOT hate it... Ultra sensitive I'd say.
By the way, he logo lacks the cheekiness & fun quotient of the original logo. The new seems to be too serious, too distant, too aloof.
Cheers, Jp
CyanogenMod is a community thing.
Community doesn't like old mascot.
Community want old mascot.
Community get what community want!
I just now saw the new logo, and immediately started looking for a place to vent. I have to say that I have never seen a worse attempt at an icon makeover in my life! It is just plain awful. If they ever roll out CM9 for the Skyrocket, I hope I can find an old boot animation!
I personally like it very much

this mascot really looks like some turdy bully kid from the schoolyard who wants to steal your lunch money. btw his name reminds me of sid from toy story...
Meh people quit the crying it isnt that bad okay i admit it i prefer the old one but i wouldn't mind having this one too as a boot animations !

I'll admit, it looks a bit adolescent. I think the main reason that the cyan devs might be gettign a bit grumpy about everyone telling them to put it back to the old is because they actually spent money to get a graphic designer to make it. It isn't horrific, but it i think people get a bit harsh about it... Poor buggers
Not sure what graphic designer made that....smh. Obviously not one whom specializes in logo design. Should have contacted me ;-)

Hi all,
So this is my make my phone awesome thread.
But my way...
What it is is this:
I have been reading here and there on this forum and I'm finding it difficult to see the wood through the trees.
I've flashed a couple roms and read a lot..... but...... I'm missing something.
I find I'm more and more intrigued and want to learn more, this is what brought me here in the first place but I'm missing some of the basics I think.
I'm 33, I have no real programming experience, I have worked in It for some years, built a website or two (Joomla is great) and I have a knack with computers and technology.
So is anyone out there interested in taking in taking this on? I need a friendly, but not necessarily short and green, Joda to show me the way's of the force so to say..... either that or the question to the answer 42.....
What I can promise is that I will put as much effort in to this as I can however I do have a full time job a wife and two kids.
The arsenal I have to play with is an:
HTC Wildfire (very much expendable) (running Cyanogen mod7)
HTC Desire HD (also expendable as long as this or either the wildfire lives to fight another day if required) (sock)
Samsung Galaxy SIII (in no way expendable.... but possibly replaceable at some point...) (leaked Samsung 4.2.1)
So now it's up to you. You can either take it on or tell me to bugger off.......
Right so now I have found this.....
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/where-to-start-full-android-guide-for-beginners/
That's what you get for posting when not sober....
Any way the q is still open but feel free to call me a noob and ask me to cluck off.......
