I've just installed this on the HD2 and I must say it's really a nice app......BUT!
Using the macro's on this app sends to phone calibration crazy & also you are meant to be able to have caller id once a name has been assigned to a contact, but phone still rings normally with saying the persons name whois calling. But I'm still reluctant to delete this program because it does seem pretty good.
As anyone tried this app?

Hey, does anyone know of a program that'll let you playback a message to a call you've blocked?
I know MagiCall has the ability to launch another program or send the caller an SMS saying you're busy but I'm trying to find one that'll actually pick up the phone, play the mp3 or wav file and then hang up.
I want to keep calls that show up "unknown" or "private" blocked but also want the caller to know that's why they can't get through. The pickup & drop works like a charm but then ppl just call back thinking something went wrong.
Thoughts?
thx

There's a Voicemail Service, That I'm blanking on the name. Different Numbers get different Greetings, But you'd still have to ignore the call on your phone...
EDIT: Youmail Is what I was talking about
thx for the reply. i'm looking for something that can be installed on the phone rather than an external service. youmail sounds like a voicemail replacement.
maybe that's what i need tho, a voicemail program that'll fire up and then hang up right away w/o the opportunity of leaving a vmail.
I apologize if this already exists, but I was unable to find anything on Google or the forums here.
I'm wondering if it's feasible to create an apk that will do the following:
Upon incoming call, check the number. If it exists in a database of user-added numbers, or is Unknown/Private (if this setting is selected), then the call is answered by the phone automatically (without playing a ringtone), the mic is shut off, and it plays back a recording of the "The number you have dialed is not in service". Set it to disconnect after 30 seconds or so, if the other end of the call doesn't end it themselves.
I believe this would be useful as a sort of black-listing program, and should anyone call that number while blacklisted, they would most likely remove the number from their list. I see this being beneficial for telemarketers, collections calls, Ex-boyfriends/ex-girlfriends, that stranger in the bar you gave your number out to after you had too much to drink, etc.
While I realize there are a number of call-blocking programs out there, I think the main selling point of this would be that it would stop the calls from coming from that source.
Sorry if a thread like this exists somewhere, or even an app, but I couldn't find anything. I've just been thinking about this a lot lately, and while I have some experience programming, I have yet to touch anything for the Android OS.
Thanks!
check the market for a callblock app, shold be what your looking for
Not exactly. The call blocking applications I've seen so far either send them directly to voicemail, or pick up the call and immediately hang up on them.
The primary difference I'm looking for is muting the microphone and playing back a message prior to hanging up the call.
Does this already exist? If not, is it possible to create? Again, I have no experience coding for Android, so I don't know what we can and cannot do, although I imagine it probably would be possible, preferably without root (so as to reach a wider audience).
i believe you can do this with google voice.
i think if you mark the number as spam or block it in google voice it plays that type of message.
The only problem with that, is it requires the use of the Google Voice number, right? Which does not help for those who already have the current number. See OP:

I apologize for this needing to be moved. My original question was actually whether or not it was possible, but this turned more into a "Try this app" thread.

i believe if you end up using google voice for voice mail (where you dont have to have a gv number) it does this also.
I tried a few apps on the market but when I ring my Hero from a number which is not in my contact list it still rings. I can set any contact to go straight to voice mail so it seems logical that an app could be developed to do the same for any numbers not on contact list.
Anyone knows of such app which actually does it for our hero?
Anyone? There has to be some one who knows
I use CallFilter. It works pretty well, sometimes it'll ring one time real fast, then go to VM. Only probably I've found is that if I'm on the phone already, it cuts off my call.
Yeah, I tried it but unfortunately it still rings for calls which show a number. It only works if the call has no name in contacts or unpublished number.
So the idea is really to just send anyone to voice mail if they are not in your contacts. I figured that if they want to contact me they'll leave a message and if I like to talk to them next time I'll add their number to my contacts.
What ROM are you using? If it's AOSP you can long press the number in your call log and in the menu that pulls up you'll see an option to add it to blacklist but that requires missing/receiving a call from it first otherwise I've used call filter from the market in the past which seemed to work well

if you want the specifics, i am not the man that would be able to tell you. but i would think this is something tasker is capable of handling.
I'm using stock 2.1 with root and some mods.
Actually, the stock 2.1 comes with an option to send to voice mail for any contact. So what you can do is make a group and put all the numbers which annoy you with this option.
The problem with ALL apps which block is that they still either ring once or somehow silence and ignore the call. Either way the call still seems to come in on display. I'm not just talking about the notification but the front display. So it seems like all these apps deal with this in one way; they simply intercept it.
However, the feature which comes with stock 2.1 does this properly and only displays a missed call. The phone does not ring and the caller gets the voice mail immediately. So Sprint or Google did something else in how they handle this. It seems like there should be an option to just let it go straight to voice mail for any numbers not in the contact list or just let the damn thing ring
Still not able to find anything working properly for hero
Ok so I've done two flashes today and both have come up with the same result, my caller ID shows Unknown name, Unknown number for all calls??
Here is the ICS rom I'm running now but I can't post in that forum because I'm a newb.
Has anyone else seen this yet? Or have I done something wrong? I have searched and can't find anything specific to this phone.
Also, if I go back to the original Gingerbread the numbers come up as they are supposed to.
Sorry, please ignore this... got home and tried with a different number and it's working now?
Delete this thread at will
I'm actually seeing this as well - sort of. When a contact calls, it displays caller ID correctly. When someone not in my contacts calls it shows up as unknown. HOWEVER, my Any.DO app has functionality for missed calls (you can add a missed call to your task list to call later or ignore) and when that pops up I see the phone number of who called.
Weird...
when you go home, you probably connect to your home wi-fi. the app only works and does a "reverse lookup" whenever a data connection is working properly.
however, if the data of location is already stored on your contacts from previous SUCCESSFUL data reverse lookups, your phone will pull that information first if no data connection is available.
Strange... so I flashed the Alien ROM last night and all was good nunbers all worked etc. So just for kicks I've flashed back to the ATT rom and it's not working again.
all numbers just come up as Unknown (no number at all, just the word Unknown). I'm wondering if it simply takes some time for the networks to sync or something?
I'm gonna leave it on for a while and let you know what happens.

Are you using the built-in City ID app? cuz if so, it still requires a DATA connection.!! Wi-fi or Data. Without it, it will return "unknown". UNLESS it has been manually entered and/or retrieved from a previous session....
are you not understanding? I felt like I just repeated myself lol.

Thanks for that... I do have a data connection, both WIFI and 4G/LTE from my provider...It still doesn't work. I have no idea what you mean by a "City ID" app. Is there something I've missed?
I should also mention that this has NOTHING to do with my contacts. ANY call either a number I have in my contacts or a number that is not in my contacts, neither show up at all. When I get a phone call the screen goes black and I see the word UNKNOWN at the top and then the answer or hang up buttons at the bottom.
i am also facing the same issue
Found a reason behind the problem in another forum, have a look here
Its not the perfect solution but it does work and it means you have to call Rogers.

Naw that doesn't work for me, I don't have name display. It does that regardless, unless I spoof tbe caller id and then I work fine. I think rogers has a specific format that they detect for caller id and if it doesn't match then you get nothing.
I can't share how to spoof caller id because I have my VoIP company and so there certain things that I can do which otherwise isn't doable.
Basically the phone that's calling has to format the number in international calling string. +1 999 999 9999
Or the receiving phone has to change it to that since caller id works as a two step thing.

Trying to figure out whether this is normal behavior for the S22 Ultra, and if so, why is such an obvious flaw is not fixed?
Call comes in and the phone properly shows the Caller ID name, which is obviously super helpful. Once the call is logged in the Recents List, however, only the number shows and I no longer remember who the call came from, and have no way to get it. I believe the same is true for outgoing calls, where the Caller ID tech identifies the name of who you're calling once you dial the number, but again you're left with just the number and no name in the Recents List.
So why in the world wouldn't the phone be able to capture that name data and store it for future use without having to specifically save that number as a contact, and although I haven't tried to do this yet, would the name at least be saved then, or would I have to manually enter it all over again?
Unless i'm missing something, this Caller ID Name feature seems half baked at best. Sure, it's good to get that name when the call comes in, but it you're not around or if you need to know who had called a day earlier, you're completely out of luck!
