just tried the One-pinch zoom demo app via Sony ericsson tutorials (via market)
and damn..its a much better technology than pinch n zoom..which needs u to change the grip on the phone.
now if they can successfully implement it.
oh and sad news for some...the multi-touch will never be there on X10..(recently posted on SE X10 blog)
check this for more info: http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/developerworld/category/tutorials/zoom/
Agreed, I don't think the regular pinch to zoom is practical. Especially if you only feel like using one hand. It also looks like it's pretty quick.
****s all over apple needs to be implemented now

It's defiantly better, specially for one hand use, but are we gonna see it or is it just an experiment in SE's tutorial app? thats the question

Maybe the answers you want are there...
where can I get this demo? i cant seem to find it on the market
I dont understand why the one-pinch zoom is not yet implemented on the x10.
I'm frustrated at Sony repeated promises/teasing and delays.

The code is in the tutorial, build an app or two. I would but I don't know how to. Keep in mind you're on a dev forum and the tutorials are from the se dev blog. Its not meant as a teaser but instead as a dev tool.

That would make sense, because if they won't use it themselves, why expect other developers to do so? They will probably implement this in their Q4 update, with their promised Media/TimeScape enhancements.

No, I mean Q4: Android 2.1 comes in Q3, and for Q4 they promised Media/Timescape enhancements.

has anybody managed to hack HTC sense into the x10?
No, thankfully.
No they "just" cracked the bootloader so no cooked ROMs yet. But I have to ask, if you wanted sense why not just buy an HTC?

i loved my motorola droid but it was far too slow and had a screen that was far too small
all HTC devices in singapore have the same problem, none of them have a fast processor like the 1 in the x10 or a screen as big
the only other phone i considered was the samsung galaxy s which i hate its interface... too iphone like for me... if i wanted an iphone i'd have gotten 1 instead of getting a galaxy s pirated iphone
also the HTC evo is not available here yet either
btw supposing we hack the bootloader
will we be able to hack 2.1, 2.2 or even 3.0 onto our x10s?

They have hacked the bootloader, working on getting a ROM to load now.
3.0 isn't even out yet.

Not really sure about that, the desire have the same CPU as the X10, though the screen is just 3.7" so it might not suit your need. But you are right, it's practically the only android with snapdragon we can find here from htc along with the nexus one
If everything goes well, we should get a working Cyannogen ROM in a few weeks. But, I really love the Timescape app. I wish there was something like that in the market.
Hello,
have you seen BlindType?
http://www.blindtype.com/
*UPDATE*
Guess what! Google bought BlindType (german)
This could end up as an Android only Keyboard now as it was originally planned for Android and iPhone
That is pretty sick!
I am going to go ahead and say that it uses magic to do it. I couldn't imagine the work gone into that prediction algorithm. Wow.
Before anyone else says it ... "How's the battery life?" Lol.
Not like I care though about the battery life. This should be pretty interesting when it comes out.
I also find it really awesome
I hope it's getting released with german.. not english only :|
I think I know how this works, I think it uses your key presses as points in a path, similar to how swype uses direction changes, looks very clever!

And it scales and rotates until it finds the best match, you can type as if the keyboard is diagonal and half the size. That's what I think is the crazy part, and the fact it can do it so fast means their recognition algorithms are very impressive.
this is sick!! i cant wait for it to come out.
Not gonna lie.
That made my day.
I can't wait until it comes out.
Holly Crap! Thats crazy!
Similar to swype, but you type instead of swyping. But the rotation and scaling is pretty sick
Hmmm I see what he did there.......AWESOME

i did start this thread in the general section when i had fewer than 10 posts, so sorry about the repost.

it would indeed seem that way. just pulled the cm sources to see if adding a new device wasn't too hard a task and it seems there already has been some work done towards porting it to the saga (aka desire s). finally some good news

NexuS has pretty same hardware. Even better cam..
I sold NexuS because I missed some of the sense things:
the stock dialer has NO t9 search - most dialer from market are crap or slow or somehow frickled on the stock dialer. Even old nokia do have a quick search option...
Stock contacts are ugly.
GAL (global adress list for exchange server) is NOT implemented in android 2.x - only in 3.0; but it's implemented since sense1 (hero)
CM had some issues - espacially with the notification bar/speed settings - on 2.3 - the new sense 3.0 lockscreen and notification bar are very good - so no need for CM at the moment - for _me_
So I deleted most of sense.apk from /system on my DesireS (all widgets, all "htc", like route66, amazon, stockexchange..) and do use adw-launcher instead of rosie (don't delete it cause is needed for lockscreen settings!) - but do have integrated company exchange and a good biult in dialer, cool contacts (with flickr and fb content) and nice lockscreen..

Sense is THE BEST ANDROID UI, EVAR. Don't know why people wanna "DE-SENSE" their phones. I'm gonna flash CM7 to see what the fuss is about , but sense 3.0 first Hopefully, the new official version of CM7 will come for DS too. I'd rather let the ports pass on...........

I get the sarcasm, but well, imo WebOS is a really good os. It's too new and has veeeeerrry less apps. In abou 1-2 years maybe, it'll become as good as android is today.

had there been better WebOS devices on the market, i would probably have bought one of those instead. i've been told that app development is a lot easier than on any other platform. and as soon as i get some time, i might just look into writing apps for android.

There's plenty of HTC phones out there that are running custom ROMs and customised user interfaces that don't rely on Sense. It may be the "out of the box experience" as far as most HTC phones are concerned, but isn't that what all THIS (ie these forums) is about - customisations, and thinking "out of the box"? (no pun intended, haha).
If we all concentrated on Sense and variations on that theme then this community would be a much poorer one.
Peace
sense ftw!
Well, i love sense, but i am porting the cm7 just so people have the choose, and also to make the development on this device more alive
But personally, Sense is the thing!
i cannot find the settings any where
That's because it doesn't exist in the Sensation.
there is a app somewhere around here that works pretty good

I think Google has dropped the ball with Android by not requiring phone manufacturers to enable their hardware to run strictly vanilla Android without any difficulty. If Google had done that, every phone which has the basic hardware for a specific version of Android would have it now. Open Source Android and Linux is a farce because manufacturers have made them essentially closed source due to not releasing the source code for their drivers, etc. May as well have an iPhone.

At least the iPhone is less frustrating because it is a closed system that can't be modified except by Apps and, even then, only those which comply with Apple's requirements unless the phone is jailbroken. I've got an iPod Touch 2nd generation, jailbroken, which I still use and enjoy using but I highly doubt I will still be using the G2X for as long.

You know what's nice with android phones ? You want a overclocked kernel, I can make you one. You want good battery life, I can make something out for you. You want your favourite theme, download it. You want to install a incompatible OS update, give thanks to your devs and they'll make it compatible for you . You want a ROM with nice flames when it boots, then give thanks to your favourite ROM cooker out there.
You want a iPhone, then you get a iPhone, that's it. Gotta like apples.
