In case you have ripped off the old rubber (which was growing a belly) or just miss it, there is a unique (I believe) chance to get the good ones on ebay currently.
Last year I had a conversation with the HTC service but they never agreed to deliver such an item (offering I could send it in to have them replace it!). But now that time is there that devices are ripped apart again for spare parts - also these rubber covers are surfacing.
4.7 Euros is expensive for what you get - but if you want to afford this at least you can buy it. Look for item number 200460248022. Shipping is announced in Germany only, but if you ask they may deliver elsewhere as this is sent in a plain letter anyway.
I have spent the bucks and you get the "good ones" that fit the slot perfectly.
And to state the obvious: I am not getting any commission from that - it is just the first time I have seen them surface anywhere - this is what I want to share.

Selling XDA's

For reasons too dull to go into, i, or rather the company i work for, will be selling a few XDA's over the next few months - starting with about 20, but ultimately i'll have about 100 to get rid of, some II's, mostly IIi's, and a few IIs's.
The nick they're in varies from "scratched to buggery" to "brand new".
I have no idea what a fair price to put on them is - i was going to shift them on eBay, and just offer a "buy it now"price, depending on conition - say £50 for a working but ugly II to £150 for a shiny new IIs, still in its packaging - i can crack them, obv.
So, what's a sensible price that will get the company some money - thats my job after all, while still being reasonable considering what it is i'm actually selling -

There are specialist companies who will liquidate your old phones but they pay silly low money eg about £20 per PDA style phone...
You need to complete the accessories bundle for as many of the good condition ones as you can and if you have any of the installation CD's perhaps copy them so all have one - a pdf of the manual is a good idea too. Use pictures of the actual item not a generic photo, unlock them using the tools on this site and maybe even throw in a PAYG sim - available cheaply on ebay, but above all be honest in the description of the unit. And test them all if you can. Note the seriels and if the warranty sticker intact before sending ( if not, apply your own)
Even faulty ones with smashed screens get £50 so your 'rough but working' should make at least £70 hopefully.

Thank you Richard - I should have mentioned i have all the accessories, though i'm perhaps 10% short on stylus's. I could easily offer two each of charger battery and case, if that would be an incentive.
Personally i'm a fairly well established eBayer, so i'll be inclined to use my own account rather than start a new one, and i wouldn't want to do anything that would merit negative feedback, so i'll be scrupulously honest -
if it would be in the spirit of the thing once i've decided a sensible price, i'll offer them here first less 10% or so

Broken LCD Screen - some info wanted please :(

today I used my phone for a regular phone call, went back to my desk, put it down, a couple of hours later, I hear the sms ringtone, pressed the 'wake up' button on the top, (the screen had gone blank as usual), and.... disaster, I see a long crack on the screen...
I suppose the phone is still under warranty (1.5years), but I do not know if it covers the LCD screen... It's quite insane, it was not in my pocket, it was not dropped, no liquids were spilled on it... Literally, used for a phonecall, put it down and then next time I use it has a crack is on it!!!
Did anyone have any similar experience in the past? Do you think it is covered by warranty? If not, does anyone have any idea what it costs to get it fixed? (I had bought it from devicewire, uk)....

What's the options?!
You need the screen replaced as soon, as (with my experience) the crack will outgrow the whole screen and soon you won't be able to use it.
Take it to the dealer as soon and as small the crack is, and suggest it was a manufacturer stress in the factory assembly that has started a hidden crack that grew up.
If you have the UK model (same as me) (Orbit 2 Xda branded) they are very very hard to find parts as they are mostly made for the HTC branded phone (silver original one).
So if you find a replacement online pls let me know, i need the touchscreen, not lcd but same diff!
P.S your warranty should only be for 12mths, well atleast mine are, and everything is covered usually, so just ask your outlt... if not, find a part online and repair, i would be happy 2 help with guiding through repairs if needed.

I had the same problem. The phone was in my jacket´s pocket and when I was putting the jacket on the back of a chair it slightly hit the wall, for which I didn´t even worry. When later I picked up the phone the lcd was cracked. I have had the phone falling to floor without any problem a long time ago, and ironically it broke with a little hit.
I am sending it to fix, but I know I cant avoid paying for the repair.

thanks for your replies. My HTC is now at the HTC Service... I was told that the warranty does not cover the screen, so we will see how much it costs. The person at the HTC support line told me that the screen would cost around £60 and if it was the case that the mainboard has a problem, it will be more. Additionally, running the diagnostics on the first place will cost £15. It kind of makes me wonder what on earth that warranty covers for. I was under the impression that the phone is still under warranty and their attitude in claiming that this is not covered under by warranty shows the same thing.
Their quality of the service is probably average. I only received an email with the ticket number from them when I phoned them for a second time telling them that tehy had not send me any emails yet. I know they received the phone on the 7th of July, since I received an automated email from them, however, I have not heard anything from them since then, and I will need to phone them again. I have also input the ticket number and my email in their web page, but have not received any updates...
I decided to fix the phone, unless they come up with a stupid cost; the phone is lees than 2 years old and has served me well: I have used messenger while in airports and watched many movies while travelling. On a side note, I kind of have mixed feelings about HTC now. On one hand, HTC is very innovative, on the other hand the fact they release new phones so quickly kind of upsets me. I also think that nokia for example puts a lot more research and QC into their phones. The final thing I am not very fond of on this phone is that it's finger-unfriendly (no, I am not buying an iPhone...).
Even so, I have decided to fix it (subject to the repair quote), and keep it a couple of years more...
I will keep you posted about the final price....
I just replaced my Screen myself tonight, I also fixed a few things inside the device which were getting loose, just as the keys. I put some foam in the case where the keys are and now they are nice and tight.
The device is built better now than it was when i purchased it, plus it has a brand new screen now too. Cost: $1.00 Shipping to AU + $8.87 (USD$)
Tools are mine, they costed me $7 and got some free with screen.

I know this is an old thread, but believe it or not, I only managed to get my phone back yesterday...
The phone as predicted costed around £60 pounds to fix (including postage). UPS then tried to deliver it to the address I gave to them. Unfortunately, it happened I was not there, so they left me a card. Using the number on the card, I arranged the delivery address to be changed. This happened on the 22n of July.
Unfortunately, the phone went missing and then my long adventure started... UPS asked me to phone HTC, HTC's reply was (I quote): 'Why did you change the delivery address, you would not have a problem now'. Their attitude was mostly unhelpful and they insisted that now (I quote again): 'It's now between you and UPS, why should we contact UPS?'
My understanding is that UPS in these cases asks the SENDER to raise a trace request and that they charge the SENDER for this, which is why a lot of merchandisers are unwilling to put a 'trace request' . Finally, after lots of phonecalls, UPS raised a trace request by itself.
It would take lots of pages to describe here the conversations I had with both UPS and HTC, each one blaming each other, until around mid-September where UPS said that they sent a claim to the SENDER, and it is now upon the sender to act.... Needless to say HTC continued arguing they have not received anything...
Finally, someone found that claim and sent me a replacement phone. The replacement seems new, though I guess, it might as well have been a refurbished phone. I also got a stylus with it and a battery cover, but no battery of course, (I had removed all these prior to sending the phone back).
Now here comes the amazing bit:
This time they used CityLink to send the package and HTC had forgotten to put my name on the package; they only put the delivery address. Amazingly, the package ended up in the company I work for, but in a different building near the one that was supposed to be delivered. Someone from my company called me and asked me if I am expecting a package from HTC, and that I can pop down the street to collect it from them....
Anyway, I have my phone now, it's ok... But I would avoid any interaction with HTC UK in the future.... I think I will also avoid HTC altogether in the guture, but that's a different issue altogether

in my clumsiness i closed a car door on my cell which broke the LCD
after a short search over the net i found the tools needed (small screwdrivers and some plastic screwdrivers) and the LCD.
found the LCD at Ebay and the screwdrivers at dealExtreame
in really cheap all together cost me something like 140 US dollars
the change was quite simple as there are many youtube videos on how to open our cell.
so after like ah hour all was done and good to go.

Stuff NOT to buy

Be weary of sellers on Amazon with bad descriptions.
I bought the following two products from PC Micro Store (fulfilled by Amazon):
ASIN: B002C12760 and B002B9KRYM
Both description are "for T-Mobile G2 with Google Phone", and since the products were added to Amazon on Sept 30, I figured I'd give them a shot.
Of course, these are products for the Hero, not the G2 (which they fail to mention anywhere in the description.)
There is another reseller for OEM T-mobile hard cases on there, but they do not qualify for Prime shipping. I'm only out $10 (which I'll RMA anyway) - just be careful if buying from Amazon.

The cut outs in the back of that look similar to the back of the original MyTouch, it is probably the typical naming and bad description of micro 3rd party resellers.
I'd hate to play devil's advocate, but wasnt the the hero branded as the "g2" on a few european carriers? I seem to remember seeing box art for that years ago.

Exactly - for example Era G2 in Poland
Do NOT buy the iPhone case from Monoprice.com and try to fit your G2 inside of it. I almost broke my phone when I forced it into this case. The little tab at the top pushed itself inbetween the screen and keyboard and was separating it while in the closed position
Fortunately I was able to get it off without damaging my phone, however it was really hard to get off and I was ****ting myself when trying to get it off.
TLDR: DON'T TRY TO FIT YOUR G2 IN A FORM-FITTING IPHONE CASE! (even though they're similar in size)

My eBay experience (techno.trading.house)

I want to share my journey with the Z3, and the experience with buying from eBay, specifically from a seller, techno.trading.house (Steph, Ed). I bought two brand new Z3 (D6603)--a black one for myself, and a white one for my girlfriend. The order was smooth, and the phones came in pretty much brand new (open box though) with their plastic peel-screens on the glass, untouched. After using the two for a few hours, I noticed that my black one had a defective sensor (photo). The seller advertised "hassle-free" exchanges/refunds, so I reported the defect and had the black one exchanged right away.
After a week, the new one came, the same brand new (open box) condition as the previous phones. However, there was a slight manufacturing defect with the USB flap--it closes completely at a slant (photo). I spelled out the issue with the seller, and here was how it went:
SELLER: I'm sorry to hear that! We will certainly replace it for you, I believe that your phone would be damaged underwater if that or any other flap was not closed properly. (I also do strongly suggest to avoid wetting the phone just in case). Please return the phone to...
ME (after 2 days delivered to them): Hi, have you receive the package yet, and have you ship out the new phone?
SELLER: Your return has been received. If you had chosen to receive a replacement, it will be sent within 2 days. If you have opted for a refund, it will be issued within 24 hours minus applicable restocking fee.
ME: Do you have tracking info? Thanks!
SELLER: Our records indicate that we have already sent a replacement. You have reached out to us to let us know that the replacement has the same issue. In order to avoid another occurrence, we recommend that we proceed with a refund for this item. Please let us know if this is okay.
ME: Sorry, I am not sure what you are saying. Are you talking about the previous replacement or the 2nd replacement being shipped out? I am currently waiting for the 2nd replacement. You said "sure" on the second replacement last week.
SELLER: We are talking about the previous replacement. We believe since both- the original phone and the replacement phone- has had the same issue, that a refund might be best. Let us know if this is ok.
ME: That is not correct. First phone had a defective camera. Second one had a manufacturer defect on the flap. You agreed for the second exchange, so I am not sure why you are backing out now? I need the phone as I have been using an old dumb phone for work for a week already.

So the 2nd replacement came (third phone), and the phone came in a used/open condition. There were no plastic peel-screens on either side of the glass and the USB wire was laying in there without its plastic wrappers. I knew immediately this was used, so I began close inspection of the phone. I found that the power button had a noticeable dent on one side, as if it was dropped on a table before. At this point, I don't know what to do with the phone. I have summoned the seller to see what they plan to do with this situation.
It appears that the seller recycles their returned phones and try to sell them as new, or whatever it is. I am extremely disappointed with this seller, and I want others to know so they may not fall into the same trap.
I checked the current feedback, and it appears someone had the same situation (photo). Go figure!
To me this sounds like a fair seller and a picky buyer. 832 positive reviews and 6 negative ones in a month is a ratio I would buy at if I wanted to save a hundred bucks by buying without factory warranty.
It could have been an honest mistake. I doubt he purposely gave you an opened one, just work with him to solve the problem. eBay is much harder on sellers than buyers and he would ruin his reputation if he did it on purpose. Looking at his rating I would say it was an honest mistake.
I understand if he wants to refund you, he is just trying to cut his losses. At the same time it was your misfortune to get a bad device/s. Since this phone is known for cosmetic/other issues as its in early production you are better of buying from Sony/carrier making replacement easier.

I'm sorry to hear that. It was really a frustrating moment you went through. If I were you I would probably be really angry.
If you want, just buy it from Sony store. I got mine and it's perfect so far (except some cosmetic minor faults).
I bought two phones directly from the same seller. The price was cheaper on their own site vs eBay or Amazon. Both phones are perfect. They came in non sealed boxes. I've got no complaints.

I may be a picky buyer, but who wouldn't be when you receive a defective product, and even worse when you get a used one on your third one. Feedbacks mean jack when you are on the short end. They are only good for initial decision about the seller, hence I trust them like you would too.

Yeah, I really regret not buying from Sony store, or even T-Mobile here. At this point, I might just say screw it, keep the phone, and move on with my life. Maybe the Z4 will entice me in few months. :good:
I purchased 3 different Z3 D6603 from Techno Trading, Never-MSRP, and Sony Direct all off ebay.
Techno Trading shipping a Central America version of the D6603 (White) to me and it had no seals whatsoever on the box (US Charger). This model would not show LTE indicator until I flashed a generic TFT. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in Spanish but quickly changes to English. Seller Feedack: Shipped very quickly but using subpar shipping materials. Shipped from Miami.
Never-MSRP shipped a Central Europe version of the D6603 (Copper) to me and it HAD seals on the box but also included a Sony Screen Protector (Non-US Charger). This model had the LTE indicator from start. Booting with Encryption shows the Pin Entry text in English. Seller Feedback: Shipped same day and was packaged very well. Unfortunately, they are located in Houston so I had to pay tax.
Sony Direct shipped a Generic North American model of the D6603 (Green) to me. This one had seals on the box but didn't include the Screen Protector. LTE shows from start and includes a US Charger. Plastic on the front and back of phone is totally different than the other two. Its hard to describe but the other phones came with a very very thin plastic protector. This model shipped with much thicker protectors on front and back (still meant to be removed because they have tabs on the side). Additionally, the other two phones were inside a cellophane bag but the this model was not in cellophane. Shipped from Sony in Romeoville IL. Shipped within two hours of purchase using FedEx for free. Unfortunately, Sony charges tax everywhere. Packaged well but not great.
My point...
Sony packages models different based on their intended destination. It might not be that you ever got "open box" devices but rather they were intended for an area which Sony (for whatever reason) chose not to use seals.

That is interesting. Before buying from techno, I bought a white one from tropical_mobile (in which I sold quickly due to being D6653), who stated they were located in Tennessee, but shipped from Singapore. However, the phone was sealed with two white rounded "sealed" stickers on the box. The phone also was sealed in a clear plastic slip and had protective screens on both sides.
This whole Z3 deal has been pretty bad luck for me. Maybe it is not meant to be. But good news--the seller techno.trading.house got back to me, and is willing to refund me $20 for the dented power button, or do another replacement. I'm planning to take the refund, and live with it as I am sick of all the exchanges. Who knows, the replacement might have even weirder issues.
If you spend $500 plus on an item, you the buyer, have every right on this planet to be as picky as you like.
Nobody has to settle for anything less than perfection.
So no, you don't have to accept a defective camera, or flap or indeed a previously returned phone.
As I mentioned before but was lambasted in another thread, Sony may be using premium materials, but they are certainly not using premium construction. Not when some people have to go through six boxes in store to find a unit without light bleed and gaps.
I myself had two exchanges within the first two weeks. My first unit was simply not waterproof and had a leaky flap and my second one didn't charge on the magnetic dock and now I have light bleed but no energy to fight it anymore.
It's almost as bad as an iPhone. All my iPhone friends have had multiple exchanges... Some as many as 5 in a year.

if there is a dent in the design it should state it before being bought. so it's not the buyer nor seller (purposely) its a unlucky sale.
I purchased mine at t-mobile. I paid 100% upfront despite being with t-mobile and they unlock it on the spot. When I registered with Xperia Care (sonymobiles product registration) I entered my IMEI and it has till Oct 2016 on warranty.
However on the 2nd day of owning the device The bottom speaker stopped working and was making a static noise. I went to my t-mo store I purchased it and they swapped it out. I didn't even pay a restocking fee. The manager said as long as I get the same phone and since I bought it back so promptly that he would just swap a new one. This one has been perfect since. Sometimes the convenience of having a store near by is better than having to deal with shipping my phone back and forth!
Alot of people dont want the tmobile Bloatwear but like I said, 32 GB + Local customer support outweight > No bloatwear & 16 Gig with mail in issues. (since i have no sony store near by, id still have to mail in for repairs and exchanges)
Me too, I'm glad I bought it from TMO with an EIP, exchanged mine 3 times on my 4th now, no hassles or fees.

[Q] buying a replacement screen on ebay, recommended?

yesterday a disaster striked, i was riding my bicycle peacefully down the road with my oneplus on the handlebar using a bicycle cell phone mount, and then all of a sudden, the mount came off of the bicycle handlebar and right behind me was a car, my opo got ran over by it and, despite being in a case + tempered glass, the screen shattered really badly, touchscreen doesn;t work, though the screen still turns on and the phone still works just fine (can receive calls and chats, can still pair to my Moto 360) so i think it's only the screen that is broken
so just a while ago i called the oneplus warranty center in my country, asked them how much it would cost to replace the screen and they want 150 bucks for it, damn that is half the price of the entire phone...such a rip-off
and then i went to ebay and found dozens of oneplus one replacement digitizer+lcd, complete with tools for around 40-50 bucks, and most of the sellers have good ratings....but it just doesn't add up, oneplus wants 150 bucks for it while ebay sellers only want 40 bucks ?
are they selling fake screens ? (same shape but different resolutions and colors) or are they really legit?
has anyone ever bought one ? is it recommended ??

i haven't bought from eaby, i heard that many sellers provide poor quality screen
Might end up being a pain and even taking a while but I'd give the eBay seller a try. You can ask the seller about it's quality beforehand. Use PayPal. If it's legit, cool you got a new cheap screen and that's the end of it. If it's not and the end the product doesn't match what the seller told you just open a dispute with paypal claiming you were ripped of and show up what the seller told you as proof. PayPal usually decides in favor of the buyer. I've even seen the buyer ending up with the product and the money in some cases.
