[Request] Trackball wake -like app - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I realize that trackball wake is a system level change but I would like to have an app that still uses the original lockscreen but simply allows the nexus one to be woken with the trackball. Nothing fancy. This would be something that I would think would be popular with alot of phones if done simple and doesn't become a battery hog. All lockscreen replacement apps utilize this feature so it should be usable on froyo. Hopefully someone can whip up something for us missing trackball wake. Thanks.

well, cyanogen has this built in. though if you want froyo, your not going to be using cyanogen yet.

Yeah I know but im thinking its possible to use the stock lockscreen still. It may run smoother that way. And @neok, yes it would be for froyo or ANY phone and/or rom. And truthfully, I may not use it once the real trackball wake gets updated but I would know where to go once the next update breaks trackball wake again. Ya know?

Shameless bump. Any devs out there want to chime in?

+1 to this.

+1 for this

Did you try No Lock ?

There's an app that does exactly what you said, "lockbot 2.0"

I am assuming u mean lockbot free and pro. Its alright, still a little buggy and its not the true original lockscreen. Its still a replacement afaik. The simpler the better I think. Anybody want to drop in to let us know if its possible or not?

Have you tried Widget Locker? It's what I've been using until CM6 comes out...

Widget Locker does not work well. It's slow to respond or just doesn't work at all most of the time (on Froyo at least).

what exactly is wrong with using No Lock for this? it lets you use the trackball to wake the phone in froyo.

Yes, but some of us don't want to wake the device to the homescreen. I prefer wake to the lockscreen, then taking a quick glance to see alerts and time. If I feel like unlocking then I can, if not just put the phone away. I've found "mylock" is a decent workaround for now, though not quite to my liking. Same with flyscreen, with all Widgets and updating turned off

Try this for now. My lock and another freebie widget called No Lock. When using advanced mode of My Lock And the No Lock widget set for locked, power button only will wake to the lock screen. Trackball is disabled. I use this when listening to music with phone in pocket when walking/working out. This way trackball doesn't wake the phone display. With No Lock widget set for unlocked, locking is disabled, so pushing any physical key/trackball wakes to home screen. This works for me till we get get trackball wake working.

this would be a cool app!

Any updates on this thread?

[REQ] 2.1 Built-in Lockscreen Enhancements [Developers please take a look]

I'd really like to see a couple of what I would consider to be enhancements to the standard 2.1 lockscreen.
I'm wondering if it's possible to make the unlock slider REQUIRED to unlock the phone because, at this point, you can still unlock the phone by pressing the Menu key again. This would prevent the phone from being accidentally unlocked if the Menu key gets double-pressed while in your pocket, without the need to set up a full unlock pattern. It would also make the "slide to unlock" bar functional, instead of just being nice to look at but pointless to use.
Additionally, I'm wondering if it would be possible to change the Mute/Unmute slider to mute ALL SOUNDS, including the media volume. The reason I ask is because those of us using the Touchdown Exchange application have the option to have the app read our notifications, incoming email, calendar appointments, etc., out loud to us using TTS, which is "played back" as media, not as a notification. Yesterday, while I was in a meeting, I THOUGHT I had the phone on silent. Then an email came in. Made me look like the idiot that I probably am anyway.
I'm now using a single-click app from the market that mutes EVERYTHING, but it would be very nice to have this feature built directly into the lockscreen.
Any chance this can be done? Anyone interested in doing it? Thanks in advance.

why is everybody complaining about that. i still use 1.x (since a year) and i never accidently unlocked my phone.
but i think its good to have a touchscreen option. until now the menu button is in heavy use on my phone

This isn't a complaint, it's a request. The slider is there, so why not make it functional instead of just pretty?

Ya I feel the same way sometimes hehe
It would be nice as I like the pattern lock mainly because it forces you to enter it to EVER unlock the phone.
But I don't really care about having a complex pattern to keep my phone "secure". I always just have the pattern be a simple swipe right then up. The lock on the 2.1 default lockscreen is just as simple and I love it actually but I just wish it would always require the unlock action to unlock. Customizing it in other ways would be an added bonus.
I also agree about muting ALL sounds, that is what that slider should be doing in my opinion as well. Seems like it should I mean "Sounds off" to me means "mute everything".

Yeah. I believe all of this is possible. Perhaps put a setting in Spare Parts to turn these functions on and off? I don't know. I wish a developer would share some thoughts.
It can be very usefull, the double sliding on no audio produce the effect to activate the vibration mode
buy or download the free version of LockBot
u get the option to use Iphone/Hero/Eclair/Flan lockscreens with many choices of backgrounds ect..
and it allows u to NEED to slide to unlock has alot of options.
i use LockBot Pro very useful app
How exactly do you "accidentally" press menu?
I keep my phone in my pocket separate of any objects that could possibly press and buttons. But the amount of force and accuracy would be needed just to hit the button. Just press power, home, call and then swipe its pretty simple.

With lockbot all you have to do is hold down the home button and switch to a different app and then boom..lockbot has now become usless
@ OP It is possible to do. I had a BB 9530 and they had the pattern lock ust like the g1. what they dide was disable the buttons except for end key. Im not a dev but I dont think it would be that hard to implement this ina rom

Listen guys, I appreciate the feedback, but this thread isn't about alternative solutions. And talking about how YOU don't unlock the phone with accidental double-presses of the Menu key doesn't help here either. Some of us do. Keep in mind that some people carry their phones differently than others. All of us have different lives, and our days might present situations and conditions under which our pockets/phones can get bumped or pressed against. It can happen. But, even if you don't have an issue with double-pressing the Menu key, wouldn't it just be nice to have a BUILT-IN lockscreen that is more functional than it is pretty to look at?
Also, suggesting Market apps, paid or not, does NOT help. I'd really like the EXISTING 2.1 lockscreen to be more functional. If someone is willing to try implementing this, it would be nice to be able to turn these settings on/off using Spare Parts or adding additional menu options under the phone's Settings --> Location & security.
i would have to say i agree with the OP, although i do love the 2.x unlock pattern page now because it has the time and charging status, before i would have to hit menu to get the screen to come on, then back (if i dont need to unlock) to get the time...this way is so much better!!!
+1 for the OP
I also often unlock my phone when it's in my pocket -- I guess I'm just an active dude.
Helloooooooo developers! Chime in please.
catch me if u can!
Doesnt look like any devs are interested in this...mainly because there will be a new lockscreen probably when gingerbread drops
Your best bet would be to pm somebody you know has done work on lockscreens (i.e. Stericson) but like i said there will probably be a whole new lockscreen anytime now
This ROM says that the menu button doesn't work when the screen is unlocked. i personally haven't tried it out, but this might be what you're looking for.
i dont understand the "accident" part. lol i love how i can unlock by pressing menu and by sliding. i live in chicago. when its cold as hell outside and im walking down the street wearing gloves. i can still unlock my phone and make a call.

[APP] Lock 2.0 unusable on Nexus One

I have had the payed version of Lock 2.0 since there was an option to buy but since I got my Nexus One it has now become pretty much unusable. The sad part is that it is better than the lock button that is on the top of the phone cause it lets you bring up the lock screen by pressing your track ball. I love all the different back grounds and sounds you can download and how they stay in a folder and not in your app draw (which is really annoying). Now the thing I don't like is that when you press the volume buttons when the phone is locked you can and will turn down or up the volume on accident and this is why this app is now unusable. Can it really be that hard to add an option to disable these buttons? I have emailed Android Apps and they say the reason the volume button does that is for when you are listening to music and thats great but whats the use if when you get a call or text and you can't hear it cause you turned the volume down to 0 on accident. I emailed them today again and asked if they could update their app and I hope they do. The reason I started this thread is so anybody could comment on this problem with I have to say is probably my second favorite app on the market. I will also email them a link to this thread so they can see what everybody thinks. One more thing on another lock app LockBot when you press the volume button the sound does not get turned down but I don't want to really pay for two apps that can do the same thing. Edit: OK they fixed it but their is a new problem with the home button.

What rom are you using?
Cyanogens latest has an option for trackball wake-up (and of course that mod can be applied to other roms as well) if that is indeed the biggest thing about it you like. I personally never saw the need to change my lockscreen from stock, but can understand why some people do.
I am using the stock rom, I didn't want to root this phone since you void your warranty and mine is pretty messed up I should get a replacement this week. Also I am glad Cyanogen added that and that tells you it is a problem in the stock or he wouldn't have had to improve on it. So people like me only have the option of downloading an app to get the same results. Also I have used a rooted phone before, I had been using my Google Ion rooted for about 6 months before I got my Nexus One.
Ok I just got an email from the developer and they have disabled the volume buttons by default on the new version that was fast. Now there is a weird problem where even after you set the Launcher as the default for your home button it still keeps opening Lock 2.0, its really annoying but I already told them so I'm sure they will fix it. Now if only Google would respond like this for their "Support Forums" on fixing the 3G and Touchscreen problems the world would be a better place.
I understand the issue with the volume keys. I don't listen to music so i installed the app (ringer mode locker) by kaa from the market. It overrides the system setting and locks on your choose of settings: vibrate, ringer silent etc. If you volume up or down it stays on you set point. I like if because it is not a background app using extra battery trying to monitor a set point.

Please don't critisize Google like this, 3G issues and Touchscreen problems are not simple applications in which code can be modified to turn off the "Volume" buttons.. I've noticed the employees on their forums try to solve things to the best of their abilities - but Google can not just correct everything as if it takes a small flick of the wrist, or click of a mouse...
Honestly I don't see how they will fix any 3G issue entierly without modifiying the insides of the phone.. guess I dont know enough about phones to make such a conclusion anyways.

I even posted about it a couple of times in the Q&A section but got no responses. I'm glad to see someone on a stock ROM is experiencing the same issue because I thought it was due to using CM. Are you using an auto task-killer?

wow dude just tried it! works perfect! thanks man!
Meh....
After installing and trying to use it, I finally gave up. It has the potential to be by far one of the best android apps. The developer has designed programs that mesh with android so natively that I am jealous of his understanding. But even after a few reinstallations, this program never delivered. A replacement lockscreen must be more than just pretty. It wasn't sized right for the Nexus One screen and constantly froze "Updating List", even when I was just trying to unlock. The "Updating List" freeze causes a loop that just recalled the freeze when I hit home. There is no escape short of hitting menu, more, home, then selecting my home screen program. I would consider that a lock screen fail if I have to navigate a menu to select a home screen instead of sliding the sexy little slider over. I hate taking refunds from the market, but Lock 2.0 needs more work. If I see anyone saying it has been adjusted for the N1 screen and the home bug has been fixed, I'll buy it again, but until then, I'll stick with the just weather and toggle widgets.
I hear that Lock 2.0 disables notifications on the Nexus One. Does anybody know of any apps thats just as attractive as Lock 2.0 that doesn't disable notifications or freeze.. etc.. (something iphone-ish i guess)
Any news about the home button bug bypassing the lock screen in Lock 2.0?
As far as a can tell its been working good and the dev added the option to clear the home screen default if it does it again. Its pretty sad that he left it messed up for months until I sent him the link to this thread.

Thanks, but I was referring to another bug (unless I'm totally mistaken):
When you turn on your nexus and you're still on Lock 2.0 lock screen, if you press the home button, it unlocks the phone without having to use the slider.
Hope this was clear...

No Lock market app allows you to bypass the slide lock screen, and also use track ball to wake. Works great for me on FroYo. t0ol suggested it in a similar thread in the dev section. Enjoy

Flyscreen is pretty nice, i use it all the time. the only thing i dont like bout it is it requires you to go through 2 swipe screen locks instead of just one, which is kinda understandable i guess.
Try LockBot Pro. It was nice and cool.
No Lock works great, but I do kinda like the slide to unlock screen. I wish they could make it so the trackball could wake the phone without disabling the lock screen. I like waking the phone with the trackball.

disable lockscreen?

i just think the unlocking process of this phone is very annoying , can i completely disable it?
first, the stock rom 's unlock screen is very laggy, and i dont want to see it anymore.
also, the power button is really hardly "miss-pressing "
the unlock screen seem to be useless, and it just very troublesome to have a unlock screen even i slide out the keyboard, i used palm pre before, it was very convenient to just-type after sliding out the keyboard.
is there anymethod??i dont want to see the annoying and laggy moto blur lockscreen anymore
root and flash fission

That one does not work on the motorola. I'm also looking how to do this, but not succeeded yet.
any solution now without flashing rom?
No lock works perfectly for my droid 2 global. I am using fission 2.4.3 though, haven't tried it on stock rom so I can't comment on that. But it works on fission 2.4.3 for me
edit: i use the no lock widget on my home screen to control it, maybe thats why it works on mine??

No lock worked fine on my stock D2G, without a widget.
can i only unlock the phone with power button instead of volume and camera button?
Try out an app called "Screen Mode Widget."
As far as I know, the lock screen is what disables camera and volume buttons from waking. When you disable lock screen, all hardware buttons will wake the phone...it's how Android is. Until they change it.

After rooting my D2G I installed Battery Indicator Pro. In it's opening menu it has a button that says "Disable Lock Screen." I haven't tried it because I want the security on the phone if it gets lost/stolen, but that might be a way to do what you want to do. I don't recall if you have to root to use it or not- you'll have to investigate the app.

Lock screen

What do I need to do to have the pattern lock be the only lock screen I have? I removed the sense lock screen but that puts the ics lock screen first and then the pattern unlock which is a complete waste of time.

Sense lock and pattern
Unfortunately I don't see a way to disable the HTC Sense lock since it it the only thing that protects the phones from input. You will have to unlock Sense before you can use whatever security settings you have applied.
The only thing I could see as a possiblity is removing the HTC Sense software but then what is the point of having the HTC One S? Most likely a custom ROM will be the only way to get the results you are looking for.
It is very easy to remove the sense lock screen. As I indicated, I already did that. Now the ics lockscreen comes before the pattern which makes no sense (pun not intended)

I know this might sound like a pain, but using the facial recognition will also work, if the recognition doesnt recognize it goes to a pattern unlock.
You still need to unlock using the sense unlock or the ics unlock first.
OP, I'm not really sure how this is supposed to work, and I've never seen this behaviour on any ROM, ICS or Gingerbread. The problem is, how is the phone supposed to know that you want to unlock if there is no lock screen?
Let's say the phone is sleeping and the screen is off. No way to unlock right now. So then I press the power button to wake the phone. That doesn't necessarily mean I want to unlock it. Maybe I want to check the time, or see if I have any notifications. There needs to be a further action to tell the phone I want to unlock, which is the purpose of the lockscreen.
The pattern lock is not designed to BE a lockscreen, it is designed to prevent people unlocking your phone who are not authorised to do so.

I completely disagree. If you press the power button, you want to use your phone. If you want to check the time, do that in the status bar or the fact that it displays on the pattern screen regardless. There is no point in having an action to tell the phone I want to unlock it.

You can disagree, but that's not the way that Android works, and it never has been. It's also not the way iPhone works, for that matter.
The fact that it has been this way "forever", isn't an argument for keeping it this way. What if we had to press the power button 20 times to wake it up? Would you like to keep it that way because it had always been that way? No, you would've said it was useless.
I want to use some sort of security, but I don't because the way it is now it just takes too much time.
If anyone made a lockscreen that way, that UI designer would probably get fired pretty quickly.
The fact is that the trend is going in completely the opposite direction of what you want; the trend as you can see from HTC's lockscreen and also the ICS lockscreen is to display more information on the lockscreen without having to unlock the phone (time, weather, notifications, music etc). That decision is the result of customer feedback and market research.
So the way the phone designers are looking at it is (in the case of using a pattern lock or face lock):
Step 1) Information screen (lock screen)
Step 2) Security screen
I think the closest to get to what you want to do is install something like volume wake + volume unlock, so you can press the key twice in quick succession to wake the phone and skip the first lock screen, and go to your pattern as fast as possible. There is no way that I know of to completely get rid of the lock screen totally.
It takes about 1/2 a second to swipe the ring to get to your pattern lock, so I think "it takes too much time" is a bit of an exaggeration.

I have always used a hidden lock screen with gesture unlock. So when I hit my power button, I see some basic information. No indication it is a security or lock screen, until I enter my special gesture to unlock the phone.
I agree with the OP, there needs to be more options. Can't wait for CM 9...

You can disagree, but that's not the way that Android works, and it never has been. It's also not the way iPhone works, for that matter.

Android has NOT always been this way, CM7 definitely had this behaviour. Ie no pattern unlock = ICS lock screen. If you have a pattern lock, the ICS screen does not get used.
So + 1 for the op on this, I really can't stand having to unlock twice to use my phone, but I still want the security of the pattern unlock or the number lock or the face unlock.... Pleeeease!
OK, I admit: I was completely wrong. Very sorry.
I tried this on AOSP Gingerbread and ICS, and in both cases, the pattern lock is part of the lockscreen that comes on when you turn on the screen, as OP said.
The problem that you have is that the pattern unlock HTC's pattern unlock app, it is not the normal Android pattern unlock (you can tell by the icon design, fonts etc). So it can't integrate with the stock lockscreen.
The only way to do what you want is to get rid of Sense 100% (not just hiding it), and that means use an AOSP-based ROM such as CM9, AOKP or "JollyRancher".

Thats what I hear! LeeDroid told me pretty much the same.. I normally would have jumped to go AOSP, but Sense isnt so heavy now and I quite like the framework, i.e the copy paste stuff, the browser seems to be more capable with handling frames etc.. I have changed my launcher, so I now get pretty much the best of both worlds!
But damn that forced lock screen!
Bump

The answer is already there at the end of my last post. What you want is not possible on a sense rom, so go install CM9.
