Has anyone out there had any luck downloading and running Google Earth on the Sprint Hero with 2.1?

I believe Google Earth with only run on 1ghz processors? something like that. Or a faster processor than the hero has? I'm not quite sure. All I know is I have never been able to get it from the Market.

it will only run on opengl 2.0 enabled phones. Hero doesnt meet the specs

Nexus One ROM Development Request

It would be really nice to have some devs working on a Nexus One ROM. That phone is really nice. There is already a custom ROM so i guess we can start from there and just modifying the hell out of it to make it fit on the HERO[CDMA].

Great thread to start. I would like to see the nexus rom on the hero. I like those live wallpapers. Maybe one day we could have a live wallpaper based on the weather like the HD2.

You do know the Hero has a 512MHz CPU, while the Nexus One & the HD2 have a 1GHz Snapdragon. The Hero only has 256mb of RAM, while the Nexus ONe & HD2 have 512mb of RAM. also the Nexus One's GPU is leaps & bounds more powerful than the one in the Hero. So the likelihood of the Hero getting live wallpapers & actually basic functionality at the same time is slim to none.

QFT: Remember the Hero had the animated widgets removed from sense because of the lag the animations created. Animated wallpaper and such, while possible doesn't seem very practical for the time being on our devices.

Actually, the Hero has 288MB ram but who's counting
Seriously, before we get this we need a working .29 kernel otherwise we wouldnt be able to get the damn thing to boot. And if we did we would have the same trouble as we are having with 2.0 (camera issues, sync issues, etc). We will get to the fun stuff guys. Trust me. But before we focus on this stuff let's let the devs do the hard work and however we can help, let's help. Once we get the kernel then we get to the fun stuff.
Also, as for the CPU, it is *theoretically* possible to overclock this processor. The Dream was underclocked to 384Mhz and it ran a lot faster when overclocked to the standard 528Mhz. If we could actually push this thing to 768Mhz it could be really nice but like I said. That's theoretical. And we still have the GPU issue as well.
And the HD2 doesn't have 512 megs of RAM if I remember correctly. I think it only has about half that, but same processor is right.

It has 488mb of RAM to be precise.
Not that I know half as much as you guys do, but when I had my touch pro 2 I had a custom windows 6.5 rom that was ported from the HD2 with the same live wallpapers based on the weather. For example when the weather widget displayed cloudy weather clouds would move across the screen. I remember reading that the touchpro 2 has a qualcomm 528 mhz processor like that in our heros. The tp2 had no lag at all and the animations were quick and detailed so I am just having a hard time seeing why the hero cant handle this, is it a difference with the way android and win mobile handle this type of stuff?

which 32A NR rom got best 3d drivers so far?

hey!
which 32A NR rom got best 3d drivers so far? trying play icommando leaves me in like 1-2 frames per sec... so i wonder what rom should i use to have the best 3D GPU support?
at the moment I'm using robocik's last rom.
from what I've been reading HTC MAGIC's CPU is dual core with hardware GPU for 3D. So i can only guess that the performance I can see now is probably due to not perfect GPU drivers.
thanks!
Use a 1.6 rom. Easy as that. In every 2.1 rom thread the devs say you will have problems with video and 3d. So if your really into your games and videos I suggest going to Cyan, Super D or a hero rom.

Same question though... Does 1.6 have 3d drivers? I thought only cupcake has drivers.

Hows the performance of this app on various phone models? Does it require Snapdragon, Hummingbird, OMAP3630, OMAP3430, OC'd versions? Also, controls?

Just tried to buy it, I'm hung @ authorizing purchase. Per Zodttd's twitter Google has put the brakes on it for the moment.
Well that sucks. I should have gotten it when I had the chance. They havent stopped other emulators on the market.
got capcom vs snk, armored core and wipeout xl working on it. hard to find good roms and the controls are as tricky as gensoid and snesoid. i hope the devs keep updating it to make it better
Also the lack of support for L2 and R2 make some games impossible to play...

Hi,
I bought a Come One Bluetooth Gamepad one year ago for my old Samsung Omnia.
It worked perfectly for FPSECE (psx emulator for WinMo).
Do you know if it would work with Android / HTC Desire / psx4droid ?
Hey, if you're still having trouble getting the app from the Market, it's available on SlideME.
Anyways, mrtankjump from droidforums has made a wiki with game ROMs that are working. If you like it contribute!

Does this support multi-touch? Or does the program simply not support combination of buttons being pressed at the same time?
I have 2 fighting games (Dragonball Final Bout and Ultimate 22). I can't get any combinations to work. For example, in Final Bout, to go quickly to the opponent, you use "L1" + "arrow key". But that doesn't work...

[Q] Does Skype v2.1 Video work on the G2x?

I saw Skype updated to 2.1 today. My G2x is getting repaired so I can't try it, but has anyone been able to confirm if video works on this version?
No, It doesn't work. They have made it work with the Sensation and other phones release way after our G2X and the G2X is still not supported. What the hell? I am pissed as hell, I want to use it tooo...
That's really annoying. Skype is really the only reason I care about having a front-facing camera.

It's making me extremely mad. What video chat for phone-to-desktop actually works with this thing??? And now that Skype claims this will work on all 2.2+ devices, why is it not working on my 2.3.5 gb g2x?? Is it because the Tegra 2 doesn't have Neon support? Well neither does the Sensation's snapdragon... and that's officially supported. Come on, skype...

I tried Oovoo a short while ago, and had trouble with sideways video or sometimes no video at all. Guess I'll be trying again. And Skype should at the very least quit advertising that this works on practically all froyo+ devices... They need G2x support, and they need it soon. Taking their time has already earned them the low rating they have (or had before this release, fixing for many people) in the market.

The sensation's hummingbird does actually have Neon. Google sensation, hummingbird, neon, and you should see it. I always worry about posting links to outside of the forum, but it's easy to see.
They do claim it'll only work on 2.2+ devices with neon capabilities... I'm no electrical engineer or dev so I have no idea why both gtalk video and skype need it but they do.
Sadly it means it's not as easy as a build.prop fix. One day... or I'll just get a phone with tegra 3 when that comes along which has neon support haha.

Hmm, interesting. I remember reading somewhere on XDA that "Our friends over at the Sensation board are out of luck as well as the Snapdragon doesn't have NEON either."
Oops, sorry, I meant Snapdragon. Haha XD
I wonder if that guy is still right, though. If he is wrong, that explains why Sensation is officially supported while non-NEON t2 is not. But... If he's right, there is no reason why Skype doesn't support t2 and in that case a build.prop change or decompile and removal of the apk's device checks would work.
Got some looking up to do...

This may not be correct either, but I think it might be for hardware acceleration/an easier video processing library. I gotta look into that too.

I'm pretty sure Snapdragon doesn't have NEON. Qualcomm licensed the ARMv7 ISA only and not the Cortex-A8 or A9 designs(The Cortex-A8 introduced the NEON core FPU but you seem to know this). The ARMv7 ISA only mandates Thumb and such.

From personal experience of doing video encode from an Android device;FFmpeg, the open source library for video encode/decode is preferred on Android and is very optimized for NEON(TI is one of the main contributors for FFmpeg for ARM and all TI OMAP3 and OMAP4 designs have NEON). I'm guessing the video APIs for Android use FFmpeg so Gtalk and Skype would be reliant on these libraries.
However the Atrix got Gtalk so there probably is some workaround for this...

Ahh, OK, thanks for the clarification. So Skype has adapted an official certified version for non-NEON processors, meaning there shouldn't be much reason why they still aren't supporting Tegra 2.

That is correct, both apps rely on NEON and that's why previous ports failed. Atrix (T2) did get gtalk, so there is a new attempt underway. Have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184999
There hasn't been too much progress (at least publicly displayed) or as much as the LG cam port attempt, but it's promising. And now that a version of Skype is availible for a non-neon processor, I'm guessing our wonderful devs will soon attempt to use the new libraries to make a working port. Let's hope for the best

Madden 12

I bought Madden 12 for my Flashback 7.2 Honeycomb Gtablet.
It installed properly but then it wanted to download an additional 300MB of content. At that point, it said it was not supported on my device.
I got a refund from the Apps Store.
I wanted madden 12 but didn't see it I guess because im running laurel mountain. Bummer I really wanted a football game
It should work on anything 2.1+ I got the same problem as above and currently have a trouble ticket out with EA Sports. If you go to the EA site, Madden 12 is not even listed as an android game, only iPad/iPhone/Touch... Very frustrating.
Cant find where I read that it does not work on Tegra devices. I also downloaded it to my Evo and ti works fine but a black screen on the Gtbalet. Oh Well.
hmm... seems there are two different versions.
One is "compatible" and runs up until the download is required, the other is not compatible for some reason. I'm not sure what the difference might be since they both read exactly the same.
I thought EA Sports turned out quality stuff. This smells and tastes like junk.
I managed to get the game installed. It is just a black screen when you run it. I tapped on the screen everywhere and the played a game but graphics were really messed up and it ran choppy. So its not for tegra 2. Too bad there wasn't an emulator that could run it on T2 devices
