Hi,
I am from Montreal, Canada. I am with rogers and I have Xperia X1i. Right now I have a contract with rogers of 6Gb for $30 till november. I really want an Android phone. Since Google decided to go with a weird frequency for 3g, I cant really get a nexus phone. So I decided to wait till july and probably get Xperia X10 with Android. I heard that telus is bringing motorola droid in Canada and telus have better plans than rogers (BTW for those who don't know, roger has terrible plans, my data plan is awesome but voice plan is terrible). So I am trying to decide between this two phones.

Pros:
4inch screen, better looks, 1GHz processor!!!!
And I get to keep the same number with rogers
Cons:
It runs on Android 1.6?!! And even though it has 65k screen but it might be running at 35k?! No keyboard.
Milestone
Pros:
Android 2.0.1, Keyboard, hard metallic body, this phone is out and tested so it wont have any bugs.
Cons:
3.7inch screen, 133Mb rom and 550MHz processor.
I heard some where that the processor speed in not important. I am not sure whether it is true or not. One thing is for sure it runs on Android 2.0.1 whereas X10 is stuck at 1.6. I was wondering if anybody else is in the same kind of dilemma or even any thoughts or suggestions.

Xperia X10 the specs are much better, but i'd personally hold out for HTC bravo.
I can't believe for a minute that there won't be an update to eclair for the X10, even if it's just be the folks on XDA! I wouldn't base my decision on what android version is on the device...

Did you REALLY just write that?
You should try googling it Go to the Android forums and look at the milestone and droid sections.
I chose a HTC HD2 over the Milestone for a couple of reasons.
1 - Bugs. They both have bugs, one big diference though is that HD2 has this massive community
2 - Exchange Support (not sure if relevant to you). 2.0 is still not full Exchange support.
3 - Office Support (again, not sure if relevant to you)
4 - Various reviews that said the keyboard on the Milestone was pants. Very few liked it (but some did!)

You're in montreal, so wind isn't available (and won't be since videotron bought up all the quebec spectrum), but if you can hold out until summer, videotron http://corpo.videotron.com/site/press-room/press-release/375 is launching AWS service compatible with GN1.
SornyX10 may have a little bit of android, but it is really crippled by all the sorny proprietary junk that they've added onto it. There is also no indication that they will actually be updating from android 1.6 to anything newer *ever*.
Regarding CPU speed, its usefulness depends on your use. It is a phone after all... and with the internal storage limitations of the milestone, its not like you'll be installing any huge 3d games to take advantage of a fast CPU.

Get the X10a, Rogers is launching it later in the year if you want 3G.

Processor speed is important. If you are going with Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5 the 528 MHZ is like a minimum requirement, or else your phone will be slow as ****. Don't listen to the people who have 528 MHz phone. Listen to the people who have the 1GHz one.

Wow videotron is getting AWS, great.
When it comes to processor everybody has different opinion. I am not going to play 3D games but I hate slow animations in my HTC sense ROM ( even though xperia x1 is suppose to have a seperate memory just for video processing). And specially when they freezes!!! Its really annoying, I haven't seen that on a Iphone though (I dont have an Iphone, saw it from friends). And android would have been the next thing to try.
Android 2.1 is better than 1.6 that I know for sure. Now its seems like everything comes to one question:
DOES PROCESSOR SPEED MATTERS? I never seen a phone with 1GHz so no clue. Anybody ever seen phone with 1Ghz?

I am ready to toss out my old Wing (my Kaiser died) and am in the market for a new phone.
The problem I am having is that I feel like purchasing a phone now would be a mistake, since it is likely that a new, mo-betta version will be out in a month or so.
As such, I am willing to wait, up to three or four months if necessary, for the perfect phone.
I have been shopping around, visiting Gizmodo and the like, searching for the best possible phone that should last me until 2012.
Anyone have any suggestions? Buy now, or wait, and if so, which phone?
Comming form kaiser you must need a hardware keyboard.
If that is correct you have 2 options:
1. Buy now a great Rhodium (the best hardware keyboard to this date)
2. Wait a few months and go for the Tera (smaller screen than Rhodium

If you don't need a hardware keyboard, HD2 all the way!
If you want some new excitement from the old WM scene, then go for the awesome Nexus One android on tmobile!
Honestly, its either you settle for already out of date with any WM6.5 phone or you go for Android for which updates will keep on rolling out straight from the manufacturer. Windows Phone Series 7 was just announced, but its not going to be available until the holidays... that's 10 months from now. So if you get an HD2, unless there are ROM leaks (which are unlikely given the hush environment thus far and the fact that the ZuneHD can't be yet be cracked), your stuck with WM6.5. If you get a Touch Pro2, your already a year behind, as the hardware specifications was released a over year ago in the original Xperia X1. So honestly, Nexus One or X10 (assuming you want XDA support) are probably the way to go, if you want your phone to last you a long time. Otherwise, iPhone 3GS or Palm Pre, as both of those will definitely get all OS updates likely for the next 2 years.

I am currently on T-Mobile and with three lines, will probably be with them for a while. I also travel to Africa and Europe from time to time, so I prefer a Quad-Band, if this is still the tech for that.
I do like my hardware QWERTY, but the Wing's keyboard is lacking so I've kinda gotten used to the on-screen keyboard. I really liked Kaiser's keyboard though...
I don't like WinMo7's new interface, per the hand's-on reviews I've seen. I guess this means I'll be looking at Android.
So far, I like the Nexus One best due to the 1ghz processor, but I've read bad things about the contract(s). I'll probably end up buying the phone outright if I can get away with no contracts at all.
I checked out the Rhodium but the specs were a little light for me. Does anyone have one that can testify to it's capabilities? Looks like HTC's TouchFlo is built-in...

Snark, I suggest you get the T-Mobile HTC HD2 for the U.S. I suggest you wait 2 months for the HTC HD2 to be released. I think you will be able to unlock it and make it work elsewhere if you travel.
Nexus One or HTC Bravo hands down.

I like what I've read about the HD2, the specs seem to be in line with the Nexus One.
Both phones look nice, but the Nexus One seems to have an edge on the HD2, since the Android OS is open source and the HD2's OS is months from being obsolete.
From everything I've read, it looks as if WinMo7 will be locked down and that really worries me. The only reason I've stuck with WinMo phones is because of you great folks here at xda-dev. If they lock down WinMo7, how long will this site continue to offer the support they so freely give to WinMo users?
As far as the Nexus One goes, I can see that some of you are already offering OS updates for Android phones, so I suppose that this is the only way to move forward?
HD2 Pros: Can expect subsidization from my carrier.
HD2 Cons: Appears to run WinMo6.5, will the support last 2 years or more?
Nexus One Pros: Open-Source OS, tons of apps and supports and growing!
Nexus One Cons: Not subsidized under my current plan, more expensive to start but cheaper in the long run.

Seems to be a bit of excitement about the HTC Desire (nee Bravo, nee Passion) and according to the folks at modaco, its specs rival and sometimes surpass the Nexus One.
From the (leaked) photos, it sports the Sense UI and has a optical trackball for onscreen navigation.
Still no hardware keyboard, but I have the feeling that this is going to be a rare beast in the future anyway. At one point it was a must-have, but since the iPhone made it without one, the newer phones look to be pushing the envelope as well.
I will be waiting for HTC's MWC announcement today. I suspect they will offer it to Orange first in Europe and then hope to drop it in the States by X-Mas. If so, I could always order one and have it shipped overseas, but I would probably opt for the Nexus One in that case first...
Yesterday I bought the TouchPro2. It's pretty nice, but I am seriously missing the extra hardware buttons I use to interact with the Start Menu and my fav eBook reader :-(
I'm loving the awesome RAM and the nearly unlimited ROMs out there. EnergyROM's main thread has over 1000 pages already, wow!
As soon as the HD2 is back in stock, I'll be switching over to it and giving the Rhodium to my wife.

Just joined the forums, and figured I'd earn myself a warm welcome by asking a question that I'm positive no one has asked before: Vibrant, G2 or myTouch HD?
I do have certain criteria that I'd like to share, as I've spent many hours reading up on the three phones. Here's my take on the three phones so far based on what's important to me:

So, as you can see, I can find something to love and hate in all three. I'd like to hear comments regarding perhaps why you chose one over another. I'm also very curious to hear more about the myTouch, because right now I'm working off speculation.
I'm not looking for any of you to read my mind, but I am curious to hear others compare and contrast the three and share their preferences.
Vibrant or MyTouch.
The vibrants screen will amaze you. Its like an orgasm ona screen. Plus there's a mod for a front facing camera. Plus there's roms with vanilla android so its not bad.
The battery life is great.
The mytouch HD sounds good. So I'd wait for it in case

The more that I've read, I'm leaning more towards the G2. It sounds like several people get a couple days before having to recharge, and that people have been able to prevent the preloaded software from booting via the package manager.
Also, I just read that it sounds like the myTouch will have HTC Sense which, while not a bad thing, is a blocker to fast updates. I'd like to be able to upgrade to Gingerbread as soon as it's available, and it sounds like the G2 is the only phone (besides the Nexus One) that's going to be able to do that easily.
Finally, after reading up on the JI6 battery issues on the Vibrant, as well as the Mini Kies software that people are now having to run via Windows to get updates, it gives me a little less faith in Samsung.
I am still very curious to hear others speak about the speaker and the resetting issue on the G2.
Things you cannot change in a phone or upgrade are; screen, memory, processor. you have all of them as dislike or concern on hd or g2.
Your concern in regards of the vibrant, seem to be sw related. Being a Galaxy S phone. You have i believe, the larger group of modders, developers working on it worldwide, to get you a large array of options to upgrade, fix, or just show off your phone.

Chazz Thanks for posting the poll! I'm looking at a very similar predicament in replacing my Mytouch 3G (32B). At this point, I'm not sure if the MyTouch HD will have the capabilities that I'll want on it (SIPphone, Tether, ability to modify simple things like boot animations).
Vibrant biggest benefit (to me)- Can be rooted, tethered
MyTouch HD biggest foreseeable benefit - HSPA+, native 2.2
Just to add my 2c, The CPU in the G2 is actually faster than the Vibrant and MyTouch HD. 800MHz doesn't mean a thing, it's a new gen. CPU and it currently gets the highest scores of ANY mobile CPU out there.

If you look around you will see that the MyTouch HD/4G actually has the same Generation (45nm? I think) CPU in it, but the MyTouch will be clocked to 1GHz by default. If the MyTouch can be rooted I think that will convince me fully. I can always sell it in 6 months when something better comes out, 'cause it will.
Side note, the G2 and the MyTouch are only on T-Mobile. The Z (Sense version of G2) might come to another American provider.

I love my g2's speakers. I use them all the time with slacker radio. I'd also like to add that the g2 also supports wifi tethering once rooted using the free visionary app in the market. (One click root) And like what was mentioned above you can overclock the processor to out due any phone on the market. I will admit that vibrant screen is nice but that thing has to take up lots of battery. Oh i almost forgot the keyboard is awesome aswell. The Froyo 2. 2 is nice and very smooth. Has the vibrant gotten the GPS issue fixed?

Anyone else have any thoughts on these two (G2 and Mytouch) phones? I am on the verge of ditching my Vibrant (laundry list of issues spanning 4 phones) for either the G2 or Mytouch4G.
As both are HTC phones and fairly close in specs and build quality, does one have any real distinct advantage over the other? While I will certainly miss the Vibrant's screen, can't say I'll miss the dodgy Samsung support.
Very shortly I will be binning my iPhone and purchasing a HTC device running Android.
I have chosen to go with HTC because of their Sense UI - no other manufacturer appears to have developed anything than can compete with this.
The only thing delaying this switch is my failure to yet decide which handset to go with.
I am looking for a top end device so the front runners at the moment are the Desire and Desire HD
Specification wise the Desire HD handset gets the win but this device isn't quite as portable as the original Desire and it appears to be agreed across the board that the HD's battery life isn't the best having only been afforded 1230 mAh whilst the original Desire has 1400 mAh, despite the HD having the larger screen and more processing power.
So its a toss up between the two, and I really am stuck.
I'd welcome any advice to help my decision or more importantly, bearing in mind the HD has been out for almost 4 months, surely there is a top end HTC Android device in the pipeline due for release in the very near future??
I have seen mention of Android 2.4 and 3.0 in other threads...has anyone come across mention of HTC releasing a handset this spring that will be running the new Android platform??
Well,you can expect them to announce the Desire HD2,aka Pyramid,at the MWC,but release date will probably be later on,most likely April or something.Right now,if you want a compromise between the DHD and the classical Desire(I have both and I can tell you the DHD is far superior performance wise,and battery isn't bad at all as second generation Snapdragons are much less power hungry) the Desire Z might be a good choice for you.Don't let the 800MHz processor fool you;it's as much a beast as the DHD is!Unless you can't put up with the hardware keyboard!

As for the battery life for Desire HD, it's not bad. I charge every night if I used the phone heavily through the day. For it's screen size battery is reasonable and I find phone very easy to carry around, it's quite slick.
New phones are just around the corner and I can't honestly say if right NOW is the best time to buy a new phone, especially such a expensive phone. If you don't mind then the Desire HD is one heck of a beast!
But these new phones will probably cost close to a grand, for that much you can build yourself a i7/i5 machine lol.
Yeah I've just read a few articles about HTC announcing the Desire 2 and Desire HD 2. Apparently both will be announced at the MWC tomorrow!!!
So you'd expect these new devices to hit UK shores around about April? I'll definitely wait until then for either the D2 or DHD2 although expect I'll have to fork out quite a bit for one of these sim-free!?!?

Just make sure it is Flashable (at least samsung has plans for signed bootloaders preventing custom firmware updates, so make sure your open platform really is open) Desire, Desire Z and DHD are, Desire2 or DHD2 i don't know but one could assume they are also. HTC would not do something as Apple-ish as this, would they?
The reason for this is that while android is the top system for now and sense is indeed great - but check my thread in general discussion - a possible announcement date for Meego, and you probably want to be able to flash to it once released (and ported functionally). All Android apps work on meego using JVM.
+ There are hidden powers in both the DHD and especially Z that is being wasted by 1) Android (whole os implementation, especially the lousy dalvik VM) 2) I have been told Z and DHD have essentially the same chip, the 200mhz difference is mainly market differentiation justifying DHD as the flagship even when lacking qwerty and not gaining much/any advantage from the bigger display since the resolution is the same. Quite the opposite, it makes it bulky and drains more battery... IMO the Z is the flagship model of the current gen and it has been clocked up to ~1,4 ghz stable that i know of)
I for one cannot wait to get Meego running on my Z and unleash the potential of the hardware.
(My advice is forget the old desire and since the next gens being announced don't seem to have a qwerty version go for the Z. It will be on sale or found cheap 2nd hand due to the new ones coming. (you must be a bit of a tech-geek since you are on these forums so you probably will come to appreciate the qwerty even if you don't realize it yet. Some linux desktop version + qwerty almost a laptop makes

So I'm hoping for some big news from HTC at the MWC regarding the Desire 2 and/or Desire 2 HD....
I am in the UK so despite there being rumour of the 'Pyramid' seeing an April/May release in the US I am concerned that we will be waiting several months more to see any of these new top end HTC Android handsets over the pond here in the UK.
Any views on this? Or any idea on the wait we might have in UK to see these handsets?

We seem to get the new HTC phones sooner in the UK than they do in the US so don't worry. More often than not we'll see the original (like the DHD), and then later they get a variety of carrier specific derivitaves like the Inspire 4G.
Personally i'm more interested to see where the Nexus line goes for it's next incarnation. Hopefully back to HTC with a killer Nexus 3
Congratulations, I think the Desire HD looks like a pretty awesome phone. Wish I would have waited a few months before buying the Desire to get the Desire HD.

With regards to the 4G, I've heard there is very little support for this in the UK?

NO support as yet. I've heard that some European countries have trials under way though.
Desire HD is cool, possibly a little on the big side coming from an iPhone, but you will soon get used to it. I find occasionally being used to the iPhone I have a bad habit of touching the sides of the screen and activating an app I had no intention of opening. But like I said you get used to it.
I also found that the voice quality of calls is higher than my 3gs used to be, and I have had some trouble getting used to the fact that up until I start to drop calls from bad signal the only loss of voice I get is a small crackle or pop and then a gap in the conversation. It's probably my only gripe. I would like to have less quality voice on degradation of signal, but not lose part of the conversation... still its a great phone and much more fun now I have rooted and modded it.
Does anyone else really miss the physical keyboard ? I'm hoping they release some handsets with a slide out equipped with a dualcore/tegra chip soon

I missed it at first when I made the switch from my G2 to my current device the MyTouch 4G but then I got really use to typing on a touchscreen. Now I can type a great deal faster on my Mytouch 4G device than on any other physical keyboard device I have owned in the past (G2, G1, and a Blackberry Curve). I believe the only devices that have a good shot of having really good specs and a physical keyboard are the future Droid (probably the Droid 3) and the future G series device (not Gatorade, but the G3, and thats if T-Mobile dodges the merger).
Unfortunately, Samsung Galaxy S doesn't have Physical keybaord.
Which i'm kinda miss from my old Nokia E75.
I used to have the motorola Devour when it first came out and I loved the physical keyboard, but ever since I got my droid incredible and I have used that screen for a year, it's kind of hard to say that I do miss the physical keyboard.
I find the onscreen keyboard to be much better.
Thats the only reason I still use my G1 (Dream). I am doing many things on recovery, or on console generally. Try to administrate a server via SSH with on-screen keyboard Impossibru. I was hoping that Desire Z would have more powerful CPU. But with this specs I am staying with my G1 (I am not gaming very often). Hope HTC will make a qwerty phone with very strong specs.

They did, the Epic 4G.
But it's only exclusive to sprint and there's no GSM version.
