Hi guys,
I think the subject says it all...
I have a Diamond which suffers from serious GPS lag (not fix!). This means that when I'm driving, my car is always up to 50m ahead of what TomTom or IGO tells me that I am...
I'm thinking about changing my device as nobody seems to know the cause of this...
So, I wonder if Rapheal has the same issue or not...
HastaSSSS
Here's what i tested for you on the way to work...
Using TomTom6 (6.032), driving at 30mph, using the tip if the blue arrow as my position (same as i always used on TytnII) i would say my car was no more than 5m behind were i should be. No issue going down the right road or turn.
Same situation as johnk1973. No 50 meters lag, but aprox. 5 meters.
Same problem here on Raphael, TT7 is 50 meters behind. Will test it tonight if it also occurs with TT6.
Same here with tt7 and igo8....
Now this is going to get complicated....
I had Diamond before and NEVER experienced GPS lag.
I tried almost every official and cooked ROM and had no problems with GPS.
Recently I switched to Raphael....
And guess what... GPS lag !
I used my Diamond and Raphael in identical conditions, with the same app (iGO 8).
I'll try to test it more.
I'll post if I find anything useful to you.
Cheers,
Sh*t...that means Raphael is a "no go" for me...
Unless we solve the problem...whatever it might be...
Please keep on posting your findings about this issue...I like very much Diamond and Diamond Pro....but I'm not willing to have a device without 100% functionality...
HastaSSSS
I have a Touch Pro with iGo8 installed. I realised this "50m lag" on my business trip this Monday but I thought it was due to the speed of the car (I was driving very fast for the most of the time). Now I see the problem might be a little more complicated.
On the other hand the 50m is not so bad - I never had a wrong turn, the acoustic signalization of iGo8 is very good. Nevertheless, I would be glad if this could be fixed...
And another thing - I'm not sure if you are aware of the charging problem while using GPS. My Touch Pro actually stopped charging because of overheating and was running only on the battery. So be aware of this fact too.
But this is a different issue, I'm sure there is a thread for this.
I dont have the problem with TT6.
I second this issue, both with TT7 and IGO8 (haven't tried it with another one yet)
Guys I had GPS lag on TT7 when I fist used it (Only tried it for 5min) it was awful. Mainly everytime I turned a corner whilst driving.
Then I did the following changes:
\start\settings\system\external GPS -> Set GPS Program port COM4; Hardware NONE; Access Manage GPS automatically.
Hit ok, wait 10 secs, switch off the device and then soft reset.
Now go to TT7 change the GPS prefences, to use bluetooth device and selected COM4.
No my GPS is perfect now, no problems at all. Have tried it with two different ROMs and no problems.
I have TT7 installed on the main memory and the maps on an Sandisk 8GB Class 4 SDHC card.
Radio ROM is 1.02.25.19 if that helps? and AGPS is turned on a up-to-date.
BTW it was exactly the same when using google maps.
Did you also try it by just setting tomtom gps to bluetooth? I'll give that a shot anyway before going into the register... tnx for the tip
Please keep in mind that you'll get an update of your past position only once per second. This means: The faster your velocity the more inexact the position will be, because the distance you'll pass in this second becomes longer and longer:
@30kmph: ~8m
@50kmph: ~14m
@80kmph: ~22m
@100kmph: ~27m
@130kmph: ~36m
Additionally there is the inaccuracy which comes with GPS: In good times you may have ~10m divergence on average. But with weaker signal (which one may have driving in a city) it will become even more. So keep in mind that GPS will tell you, where you've been one second ago (plus the divergence).
By the time I get my Diamond Pro, I'll collate this at the same time with my X500, which has a build in Sirf3 receiver.
I am having a slightly different issue with my TP using iGuidance 4. Although the unit aquires a signal faster than any other device I have used in the past, it seems to lag or freeze as I drive. It will not update the time, speed or position unless I press a button or something on the screen. There is another thread on XDA (I think in the Diamond or Kaiser sections) that claims to have solved this issue, but the fix doesn't work on my Touch Pro (in fact it completely freezes my iGuidance requiring a soft reset).
Hi,
I'm using Ndrive and TomTom 7.
on NDrive I don't have any problem, it's fast.
on TomTom is slow..
I thing the problem is on TomTom using this GPS of Raphael.

these settings are the settings that are preset. Hence nothing changed. the lag on the diamond is bad but this is awful.

Using Igo8 very intensively with my TP, no lag at all. Compared it this morning with my VW passat stock nav system, and again, i notice no lag.
I have the settings in the posts above, and have very little lag. I am using QuickGPS instead of AGPS, but all else is the same. My main probklem is how long it takes to get a lock (much longer than on my old Kaiser), but since installing DCS's ROM and doing a hard reset immediately after that does seem to have improved - I often get a lock from cold within a minute now..

I believe the reason that some people are getting horrible GPS lag while others get nothing has to do with the Radio ROM versions that came installed with the device. Most custom ROMS don't update the Radio ROM. It's 12am and I'm posting this from my TP, so I'll just tell you that the Radio thread is stickied in the Raphael ROM dev forum.
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439566
I have some issues with my TP that I find very frustrating!
Fist of all I wonder if the video drivers are really in place now?
Using both TomTom 7 and IGO 8 I have found that this device is much slower then the Tytn II, granted it can be becouse of the VGA screen but I really wonder?
The camera is also as slow as on the Tytn II, it is nearly impossible to take pics or film something thats moving, I really cant see any improvments there!
I like to play chess and the program I am using is Pocketgrandmaster (PGM) with the Toga II v3.1.2SE engine, and if I set up both my TP and my 3 year old Qtek 9000 exactly the same way and let them play against each other the old Qtek 9000 kicks the TP´s butt every single time! I have also noticed that if I hold the stylus over a piece and move it around on the display it doesnt quite follow my gestures, there is a lag between my movements and the piece following! However if I do the same thing on my Qtek 9000 it has no lag at all, the piece follows my movements exactly without any lags!
And last but not least the GPS sucks big time on this device!
I am using a program called BeeLine GPS for geocatching and outdoor activities, and due to the bad reception on the GPS it is impossible to follow the track! Actually I was out testing it today and it points me in one direction that I should walk, when I turn to the right direction it takes up to 2-3 minutes before it uppdates my position and realizes I am going the right way, and sometimes it does not update correctly but points me to a wrong direction several times before it finaly gets it right!
This is very frustrating and I have to use an external bluetooth gps to be able to use the program the way it is supposed to be used! And using the bluetooth GPS just sucks my battery dry in a very short time!
Please, has anyone else been experiencing the same problems I have? And if so is there a solution to the problem, or has HTC been ignoring us customers and neglect to implement the drivers again?
***Edit***
I should add that I have disabled the TF3D and have done some tweeks with Advanced config!
Also I am using SPB Plus and SPB Mobile shell, but even without spb software it is still as slow!
Anyone experienced the same problems?
Couldn't have smooth animations with touchflo3d without some form of drivers, official or not.
Some time ago I wrote a thread at the Diamond section about a problem with my HTC Diamond, regarding the unusual waking up of the phone in random periods of time. This happens on a freshly installed ROM from the HTC, official one. Nobody could help me, so I switched back to my Touch Cruise, again after freshly installed ROM (no third party software installed) and the problem started apearing again. I came to the conclusion that the problem is somehow related to my SIM card. I guess there is some bug either in WM or in my mobile operator's network, regarding something with 3G or HSDPA. My opinion is that on random intervals my phone recieves some kind of a signal from the network or loses some kind of a signal, which makes it to wake up. I reached this opinion because there is a certain place on the road between my home and office, where the phone ALWAYS wakes up. I guess there is a weak spot in the network.
My question is: How can I find and read the system log of Windows Mobile 6.1 ? I am asking this because I am almost certain that there will be some kind of information or error message on the times of the wake, which will help me determin the problem.
try to use your phone in Airplane Mode.. if it happened again then it doesnt belong to your network
I Found the problem !!!
Finally after months of agony, I have found the source of my problem. It was my SIM Card ! The damn thing was broken. I found that this is the problem, because I was already given up on my Diamond and wanted to sell it. So i put my SIM Card in my older Touch Cruise. And as you guess, the Touch started to act the same way as the Diamond. I went to my operator, exchanged my SIM card with a new one and now everything works as a charm. I don't know really what was the problem, but I guess it was some Voltage issue or maybe the card just wasn't getting the right signals. The important thing is that now I get to keep my Diamond and enjoy it without the problems I had.
Thanks for the replies !
Is there anyway to get Garmin Mobile XT to work in landscape?

Hi pedro! Is this version of garmin working properly in your td2 ?
Im having screen freeze problems while moving with or without destination and even with a simulated route. The app still works, if I zoom in or out, it starts moving again, and while freezed I can si my actual speed too.
Also noticed a 40 meters lag to my actual position.
What is your experience ?
Thanks.
Garmin is superslow

Garmin is working properly on the TD2 but Garmin is superslow. I don't understand how Garmin could be de market leader of the US. maybe their PNA versions works flawlesly, but the mobile version is useless.
yeah, seems so in my TD2, although in my previous N95 I didnt notice this issues.
Also I wonder if im the only one with this problems, because I see so many people saying they are using this app, and nobody is talking about this freezing problem. The few threads I've found are realy old.
Just use g-confiq app and ur problem will solved ... Like mine ... Hehe ...

Hi,
I think it works properly, no freeze, but it quite (very) slow. Im using it for hiking, so I dont mind the slowness so much. But for car navigation its really useless...
Yes, the screen rendering is pretty slow in 3D mode.
But if you change to 2D mode (Plan view), then it's better and there isn't so much lag. I use if for in-car navigation and use 2D (Choose "Track Up") and it's OK though a Garmin PND would work much better. But then you can't use Google local search etc. and it isn't always in your pocket...or store GPS locations of you WinMo Contacts.
I moved from a Polaris (qvga) to Topaz (wvga) and I find Garmin XT renders the active route lines too narrow...there are dlls specific to wvga that got installed but I guess the pixel density wasn't sufficiently considered. Of course you can see a lot more on the Topaz but everything's a lot smaller unless you set a more zoomed in view.
Cheers
Garmin mobile xt 5 on my wife's TD2 works fine. infact it tracks and refreshes better than my Nuvi 200, which is a p.o.s. to begin with. The TD2 is using Asian ROM (coz that's where we are), dunno if that makes a difference.
BTW, thanks for the G-config. not only is it good for Garmin but pretty much any other app out there. Real handy. Cheers.

I've been using Garmin XT from v4.x in my old P1i (with BT GPS), now I'm using v5.20w in my Fuze and also use v5.20 in my wife's Nokia N85.
What i noticed to far is that rendering 2d&3d in the QVGA Symbian phones works OK, but the VGA WinMo version is (as I read in other posts) not only slow to render but also goes about 40 meters behind the actual position.
Whenever going faster than 80 km/h (in a highway of course) i see Garmin crossing streets 2 o 3 seconds AFTER I actually passed through them.
As a placebo try using it in 2D with minimal map details.
As for the hangups I can tell I do have them every ones in a while, not very often though.

I've the same problem as well, which is inconvenient because you need to constantly check the upcoming turns.
Workaround for Garmin XT freezing
Hi I had freezing problems with this latest version of XT running on my O2 Stellar. It drove me nuts so I eventually emailed Garmin. They repied on 4th.Dec.09 saying it is a known bug with the speed camera database, see verbatim extract from Garmin email below ;
GARMIN replied : 'Unfortunately this is an issue that we are currently aware about and in the process of fixing. This problem is down to the Safety Camera proximity warnings around particular areas. For a temporary fix you will need to disable the Safety Cameras on your device you would go in to tools, settings, proximity points then disable the safety cameras.'
I have disabled speed cameras as it says and it has not frozen since.
Lets hope they update the software with a fix

how exactly do you get it to work?
@shimmer401
Install the BsBTweaks cab file. Run BsBTweaks. Soft button "Menu" below right. Select "Rotation" from drop down menu. Click soft button "Option" and select "Add Application" from drop down menu. Click "OK" at prompt and it will take you to program list. Choose Garmin Mobile XT icon. After GarminMoXT runs, shake the phone a few times until a prompt saying that GarminMoXT has been added to BsBTweak. Soft-reset and you are done.
I'm Using the ATT Tilt 2 AKA Touch Pro 2. And I barely get any freezing issues. It works great on my phone, a bit slow, but its quick enough for the upcoming turns even in 3D mode. I hope that Garmin still does come out with a fix for the slow visual graphical probs.
problem solved

Reboot issues
Has anyone been able to sort out the reboot issues?
I have it working in landscape now problems. Except when it is in the actual navigation mode, it reboots the phone.
If there is no nav, just the map, no problem.
Thanks for your help guys.
Reboot issue with iGo on HD2
I had the irritating problem of freezing when starting ANY navigation software. And to be more exact, when the software achieves a satellite fix!!
I noticed that the lower part of the phone warms up everytime, and it helped to extend the duration of navigation software by putting it against the air condition of the car. But this was not enough, because iGo worked only for 5 minutes at best, after which I had to pull the battery and WAIT for a couple of minutes before inserting it again and restart the phone.
It's really hot in Egypt at this time of the year. So, this meant that the HD2 is permanently and completely crippled when it comes to GPS software.
So, I moved to SD android, which had the same problem. The phone also froze when it connected to to GPRS on Android after some time (about 5 minutes without cooling).
The next logic step was flashing a NAND android, hoping that the probelm was in WM6.5.3 itself. Surprisingly, the Android NAND had the same problem!!!
I finally discovered the ultimate solution; UNDER-CLOCK your CPU! since then I could use CoPilot on android for as long as I want.
Now, I'm moving back to WM and going to under-clock the CPU to see if this will work.
please let me know if this helps you..
BTW, I noticed that this restart issues with GPS software was somewhat common with HD2 esp in hot weather, but I think this is the first time somebody (that'll be me!!) comes out with a solution. So, I'm really looking to replicate it and test it.

I used hd2 (wm 6.5.5)+TomTom last summer in Sardinia (not as hot as Egypt .. but driving hours under the sun in a car with black leather interior is quiet the same ) and never had any lags or device over heating.
maybe iGo for WM is buggy
I have never had those issues.
I have been using TomTom for over 12 months, I switched to iGo and it was perfect. I then run iGo Primo and it also works with maps on only.
When I use the voice navigation, thats when it reboots. This tells me it's not an overheating issue, but a config or voices problem.
Other people using it in Italy don't have the problem. I assume I need to find other English voice files.
igo8 without bug on winmo
hi,
personally i am using this version ( Nav N Go iGo8 Revision 3
V 8.3.4.102680 - August 13 2009 )
you can download it from
david2131.com
or from google torrents search
the size is about 44mb without maps
i use it for one year and it has no bug for me and its not slow.
N.B : format your sd card (1 or 2 gb) and install IGO8 on it before installing anything, its very important to do this step for a 100% success.
you don't have to install nothing, it's just copy paste, and works like charm.

I had a same problem and do the tricks same as you do.
At first time for about week or two under clock do the job, but after some time situation goes worse and worse. After problem with GPS, there were problems with WIFI and Youtube clips, after that situation came little bit worse because i didn't even make a call without restart or freeze.
And at all times lower part of phone goes warmer and warmer. I bring it to service and they told me that they know for that bug for HTC HD2 and it`s a usual problem. They changed mother board and now phone work like a charm without this problems and it`s a cold always.
