Need ROM suggestion / recommendation - Touch Pro2 CDMA

I realize there is no such thing as the "best" ROM, so I'll put it this way - what do you recommend as the ROM that most fits these needs:
Phone: Verizon Touch Pro with 6.5 pro
Wants:
- rock solid
- home screen able to show:
time
date
upcoming meetings
missed calls
voicemail yes/no
Number of messages in each mailbox
(Think about the info WinMo 6.1's home screen had, all at one glance)- Some sort of regular list Start menu, several favorites, the rest in "all programs" or a folder - 6.5's honeycomb SUCKS. Icons or words are fine, but the ability to arrange icons by alpha is just common sense, isn't it?
- Would like to keep the Opera that can use the hardware zoom bar.
- can't lose alarm clock (but more than the built in 3 would be welcome)
- can't lose MS Exchange push email.
- Sense/touch flo/Iphone type flick and scroll not needed. Actually would prefer a more exact thing like tabs, scroll bars, buttons.
- The built in Windows media player is fine with me
- The flippy clock on Sense's home screen is a pain in the ass - I don't mind the look but just show the damn current time, don't back up and hour and some to try to impress me with the animated flip forward to the real time.
- LOVE the slide to answer
- Don't care if it looks flashy or slick, just utility. A pretty hammer is fine, but not if it makes it harder to drive nails.
Any one care to share their thoughts?

Changing Contacts to Touch Flo style

I love the new Touch flo interface. Perhaps I am asking too much but is there a contacts program with this type of interface? It is the biggest thing I notice when using the phone - most other programs are nice and black/grey but the contacts is plain old WM style. I have the random access installed which helps a little but I would prefer the whole interface. Any suggestons?
Thanks
Allan
Have a look at PocketCM Contact
Its not bad but feels a little buggy in use Any other suggestions?
Contact program
Try vito contact fun. amazing contact program. wery good and colorfull.

Do you have a link to it?
Thanks
Allan
Allan,
Link is here : http://iwindowsmobile.com/contact-manager.html
Although a little confused about why you say PocketCM feels buggy?
I've used it since it came out, think it's a lovely piece of software (and considering it's free it's a right bonus!!).
I installed it, changed the theme to Touch and my keyboard went down so I couldnt see the bottom menu options, the colours meant I could sometimes see the contacts, sometimes couldnt. I couldnt close it since it also got rid of the top start menu bar - just not nice to use really. I want something that feels familiar.
Get ya. The other link should be fine then, it's really nice, not used it much so don't know how customisable it is, but for about a fiver you can't really go wrong.
Had a look at the FunContact and it is better but 2 things wrong with it (1 Major, 1 Minor).
1) (Major) I do not want to wait a few seconds every time I access my contacts for the program to load - and I do not like the lack of button to close (have to select menu and then exit).
2) (Minor) Still doesnt fit in theme-wise with the HTC theme - customisable colours would be great.
So, I am still on the look for something to replace the boring old outlook-style contacts, anyone?
Thanks
Allan
this is the best, IMHO http://sunnysoft.com/software.php?idarticle=296
I have used both PocketCM and FunContact. I found PCM to run a bit slow on the TC even with the latest .20b version. FunContact is the more polished of the two but I found two annoying issues: 1) splash screen when loading the app, and 2) there's not a quick way to exit the app besides going thru several button presses.
The Sunnysoft app looks interesting but it has the same awful letter bar as the default contacts app. I like the finger-slide type of FC and PCM.
You could minimize it then the next time you open your contacts it will open without going through the prolonged startup.

Looking for Today Screen plugins to acheive specific layout, any suggestions?

So I took the plunge yesterday and flashed my Kaiser with a custom ROM for the first time yesterday - Laurentius26's WM6.1 image, and I must say I am very pleased.
This has spurred me into trying to get my today screen *exactly* as I want it - I have tried various plugins but most seem to have too much (ie waste screen real estate) in them or too little.
I really like the Ultimate Launcher tabbed menu that comes with the ROM (I think it's a demo) for the gesture based tab switching with rotating cube effect, so I will probably stick with that.
I have done some mockups of what I want, and attached images to this post.
I want the top of the screen to be static, showing the time, date and the number of messages (ie SMS / MMS / Missed calls). I want the time quite big so you can glance at it whilst driving (No clock in car...). and before you say "Just use HTC home" - I do NOT want the tabs at the bottom of HTC home wasting screen space. I tried HHC, but you cannot set the number of tabs to 0 to remove the tabs alltogether.
The bottom half of the screen I want variable depending on which Ultimate Launcher (UL) tab I am on.
I want an "Apps" tab for quick launches. I bought SPB pocket plus which has an excellent app launcher, I will use that.
I want a "Media" tab with something like the HTC audio manager plugin capable of showing current track along with play/pause controls etc. I think this should be easy to do, I just need a player app with a today screen plugin.
I want a "Mail" tab with a list (ie preview) of latest emails / SMSs etc. Not sure what to use here, i own SPB diary as part of a bundle but this seems a bit overkill for this.
I want a "Boarding" tab for when I am planning riding activities for the weekend. (See image #2). For this, ideally I want a quick contacts bit at the top so I can one touch call my riding buddies and a weather strip below to see if it is worth riding this weekend
I need help with this bit - anyone know a quick contact list plugin like the tab from HTC home? Also, ultimate launcher will only allow you to specify one plugin for each tab, when I want two for this tab (Contacts and weather) - so I will need a plugin that can hold multiple plugins on a page and then specify that plugin as the one for the Boarding tab in ultimate launcher. SPB today does this, so I could maybe use that, unless I want to use SPB today in another tab as you can only use each plugin once.
So... suggestions are needed for:
Clock like the big one for HTC home (Found one or two, but none seem to show it just right like the HTC home one - big time with small date)
SMS / MMS / Missed calls / Voicemails counter like the one from HTC home - Does anyone know an app that lists waiting voicemails? Or is this info not available to the OS?
A quick contacts page like the one from the HTC home tab.
A today plugin that can accept other today plugins.
Any ideas?
TIA
I would like to know the same. Especially the part about the HTC Home plugin without any tabs at the bottom. I've tried to do this with rlToday, but the links of the unread mail/SMS and missed calls are not preserved. Any ideas are welcome!
Sounds a lot like my own wishlist.
SBSH PocketBreeze (with PocketWeather!); gives you a tabbed today with calender, tasks, contacts, notes, mail, other plugins and more. Skinable and with tons of settings...
Maybe CTD's BatteryStatus or rlToday for clock and call, sms, mms and mail counters?
Well it looks like I am not alone.
Is it just me, or is anyone else surprised by the number of packages that try to offer an all-in-one solution?
To me, there are two kinds of today plugins:
Ones that provide tabbed pages or some other organisation system and ones that provide the functionality (eg a weather strip, a clock strip). I just wish that people would package them as seperate entities, because you do not have to use a package's organisational system to want to use one of the package's pages.
I would also like to see some kind of system to allow multiple instances of a page. For example, on one ultimatelauncher tab I may want an SPB app launcher with app set A, but on another ultimatelauncher page i may want an SPB app launcher with app set B. currently the only way to do this is to use a different app (ie not SPB launcher app) for app set B. Either that or use SPB launcher's tab system, but I want to use ultimatelauncher to handle the tabs. I wonder if you could take the SPB launcher package, rename it to something else and install it a second time under a different name?

rlToday looks ideal for replicating the clock and message counter portion of HTC home, thanks very much!
This is my current Today Screen set-up.... I'm using all Spb apps.
Touch Commander 3.0
http://www.touch-commander.com/
Touch Commander lets you browse and scroll a Windows Mobile Pocket PC with a sweep of a finger across the screen just like an iPhone or TouchFLO. With just a touch, you'll be able to make quick calls to photo contacts, start applications, browse folders, get and send SMS, view photos and video, etc. Key features include full customization of interface elements, a Full Screen mode, and animated transition effects between screens.
Key Components
* Touch Control - scroll lists, open and minimize applications by finger sweeps
* Today Plugin with clock, weather, launcher and more
* Cube-like Multipage Launcher
* Finger-friendly Start Menu
* Titlebar Battery Indicator
Not a bad app. Not what I want though.
I do like your shortcuts screen in the cube though. Being able to add apps, contacts or subfolders is very cool.
Woohoo! some progress at last!

I used rlToday for the top, modified someone else's copy of HTC home to slim it down to 80px, leaving the rest for the ultimatelaunch cube
I would still like a quick contacts manager like the one in HTC home (Instead of the one I have below spb weather), and I would also like a nicer music plugin for the music tab, but overall I really like it - very finger friendly
Oh, and the clock is a transparency, so it works with any theme
Looking good.
Could you share the top bit?
Cheers

Wow, thats almost exactly what I've been trying to do with my home screen.
Can you post your rltoday skin?
will do soon, I was maybe gonna add a BT / Wifi switch to the left of the clock, and i think it is just over 80px, was probs gonna slim it down to 76px, so when you have a 2px gap above and below, you have used exactly 80px.
I am not sure about the clock also. With a 88:88 behind it to make it more like an LCD display or not? I also think I should maybe centre the clock propery (it's to the left) but it's like that in case the scrollbar comes up, so it doesn't overwrite the date. I suppose I could move the date to the left.
Talking of scrollbars, is it possible to make ultimatelaunch work so that if a page in the cube is too big to fit on the screen, it puts a scrollbar in (just in the cube bit of the screen, not down the whole side of the screen including the clock area) rather than making the cube bigger? I know you can limit the size of the cube, but this just makes anything that spills over get cut off.

FYI, i am looking at abandoning rlToday for the clock as it does not handle screen rotation properly, which just wont do, I want to try and get everything looking *perfect*
I have started a new thread on this with info on the various issues. anyone looking to try and acheive the same interface, please pitch in there...

Winterface 1.3 released with new skin

Vito has finally released Winterface 1.3 mobile shell, with a second skin and full screen toggle. See here: Vito Winterface 1.3 Released
wow - I like this a lot - the only minor quibble is that the email notification does not seem to work.
I've had that before too. It was listed as fixed for this release. Did you send it to support yet?

I doubt that was the thinking behind it as the current windows interface was designed about eight years before the iphone appeared...
I just think it's a lot simpler - a grid is the ideal format for a phone.
Unfortunately this version of Winterface seems to have introduced a host of new bugs. I've used it since v1.0 and each release has been fairly stable for me, this one not at all. Crashes, strange bugs limiting the number of icons per screen and icons randomly rearranging on restart, quirks with the lock/unlock feature... all experienced after a hard reset and not an update. Pretty bad, to the point I pulled it off my device until the bugs get quashed (I made my bug reports and was informed v1.3.1 is already underway). Also the new bright skin uses h-u-g-e buttons/icons and really limits usability in comparison to the dark skin.
Going back to 1.2 for now
Be aware that if you load 1.3 and take a look at the new white skin with the new huge buttons your buttons and screens will be rearranged. If you go back to the black skin they will NOT go back to the way you had them
email notification and vm notification seemed to be cross linked. Constant errors and program crashes. For the new skin and a few minor new features it is not worth the time to install.
I hate that whenever you open a program and then close it it closes winterface as well. I also don't like that you cannot change which programs are opened when hitting button (like calendar opening thumbcal or hitting the clock and open gAlarm) And When you add programs the icon styles never match (with any version of winterface)

To get Winterface back when you are viewing a different program, you don't have to close it but press Ok-button instead. This is the way Windows Mobile works. Anyway, you have that big Winterface button on your today screen to return to Winterface in a split second.
The programs launched by those buttons is determined by the default programs registered in your device I believe. When I use AgendaOne and set it as the default calendar program, this is the one that will show up when I tap the Calendar button.
I've been skinning my Winterface since version 1.2 thanks to the skins posted in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455254
I have been pushing for a "top bar" displaying notifications, time, signal, etc for awhile so I was excited to hear about the 1.3 release, however I think VITO failed by reducing the number of icons/page when the top bar is displayed rather than resizing them or squeezing them together a bit. Even though I very much wanted the top bar, I am forced to continue to use Winterface in full screen mode because of the poor allocation of screen space when the top bar is displayed.

Hey oVan - are you saying that when you click the interactive calendar icon (the one that shows the current date and how many appts you have) that you got it to open AgendaOne from its popup screen? I've been trying to get this icon to open ThumbCal and have had no luck at all.
I've set Thumbcal as default calendar, changed the calendar.lnk in the start menu to launch Thumbcal, created a calendar.exe (using mortscript) that launches thumbcal and put that in the Windows folder all with no luck.
Can you please confirm you have this functionality because I didn't think this was possible?
Thanks
Winterface freezes
Hi,
I try to use Winterface 1.3 in my HTC Wizard, but it was keep freezing my phone. I had to reset my phone at least 3 times everyday. I decided to remove 1.3 version and put the version 1.2 back and it's been working fine. Did anybody else experienced the same problem?

Today Screen

Having become frustrated with TouchFLO 3D and SPB Mobile Shell, I've decided to ditch them and try the Windows Mobile today screen as my main interface.
So I'm looking for recommendations for the following today screen plugins (maybe apps):
Analog clock with date
RSS reader that displays actual headlines
Task display that shows a list of active tasks (not just the fact that there are some)
Some sort of pretty icon notification for sms, email, missed calls, voicemail etc.
Weather like you get in TouchFLO3D and SPB Mobile Shell displaying 5 days
A program/links launcher of some kind
Alternative program for viewing texts/emails
Any other great recommended today screen plugins
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated
Before ditching TF3D altogether, have you tried Manila Today Page? This enables you to add an extra tab which functions as a Today screen, giving you [nearly] all the benefits of Today screen configurability AND the TF3D eye candy.
Thanks for the reply, and yes I have read about that.
For me, I should be able to see all the information I want without having to touch anything, if there's any point to all this technology. It's absurd that SPB Mobile Shell and TouchFLO both lack the ability to display active tasks, just for example.
Also, while trying the today screen, I've found that it looks nowhere near as horrible as I have seen inscreenshots, perhaps thanks to the Touch Diamond 2's fantastic WVGA display.
I guess my principle recommendations are:
1. SPB PocketPlus
Provides a tabbed launcher interface so uses up minimal screen real estate when minimised (with or without autohide) but each tab opens up to reveal whatever app shortcut links you put in them. Very configurable, very stable, and very useful.
2. Marsware Weatherpanel
A bit fiddly and slightly buggy on occasion, but still a superb weather application. Lots of skin options, support for animated graphics, and up to 7 day view (depending on which display option you choose). It also refreshes its view of 'current' weather conditions based on specified time intervals (I don't mean downloading new data, I mean it knows what the weather is at a given time and keeps up to speed with it as it changes).
3. Phoneweaver
A profiling application with a useful Today screen plugin giving instant access to wifi, bluetooth, phone and data switching. Also has SMS and email counters giving instant access to these tools, plus missed call counter. Profiling options are comprehensive, and app is rock solid stable and reliable.
Agree
Mr Anderson: I agree with you!
I would also like to see all info without a touch on the screen. I tried many apps, but dropped them all and today I use plugins and standard windows Today Screen.
So here what I use, if it helps:
1. SBP Phone Suite / plugin
To see small icons indicators, miss calls, new mails, new sms, new voice mail and a toggle for turning on/off wifi and bluetooth.
2. SPB Weather plugin
Displaying weather
3. SPB Wireless
to see my monthly traffic
4. RSS Hub
for new headlines
These are what I use on my Today Screen
let me know if you find something interesting

What are your favorite widgets?

Let me apologize in advance for this first post in this thread, I didn't want to create a bunch of separate threads for my opinion and experience with the G Tablet, and I didn't want a bunch of threads about my uses for the tablet and the apps I use. So instead, I'll first ask the original topic and then I'll give you some information about how I use the tablet and the widgets/apps/etc. that I use. Hopefully someone from Google will find this insightful, because I think my setup could be a great generic "spring board" for anyone who wanted to use this tablet for taking notes on images, and personalize it to their needs.
What are your favorite widgets?
Does anyone know of some widgets that do the following (screenshots are greatly appreciated as well!):
- I wouldn't mind a news reader that displayed more than just the first line of the news article and/or title. Currently I am using Express News, but it only does one line... it's better than the others I've tested, but it doesn't even automatically scroll the news. You have to tap left/right to make it change.
- Is there some weather widget that perhaps does 5 or 7 day forecasts ? I'm using Fancy Widgets right now, it says the temperature, the high and low, and the time. I dont really need the time, not a big deal since it already says it on the top right.
- I wouldn't mind a task management widget, a decent sized one would be nice.
Some other thoughts:
With the new G Tablet I got yesterday, I've quickly discovered the screen is quite HUGE (obviously). I have a Evo 4G, rooted since the day I got it, and I've got some favorite apps. But being a tablet, it has some different purposes that it works better at, than a phone.
For instance, as a bathroom reader, the tablet works great. The phone is kind of small, hard to read a lot at a time, constant scrolling, etc. The tablet also makes playing games like Slice It, a lot more fun.
I'm a web developer and manager of a small team, so sometimes it's nice to be able to take screenshots of a site we're working on and add arrows and notes to it - the best solution I've found that lets you load images and write on them and save it, is called "Pocket Sketchbook Pro" - and it switches to landscape mode automatically THANK GOD! Honestly, one of the main reasons I bought a tablet is because I wanted to be able to sketch things on a "near" paper sized display, and then immediately share it via Bluetooth to my computer or Email it or print it. My printer is a HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus, my point in telling you that is because it has its own email address. If I email my printer, it will print the email & attachment I send it. Very useful when I'm out with a client and I want to print off my notes or mockups, etc. so that I have it waiting for me when I get back.
Forgot to mention that I'm using Toshiba Home Launcher, on my phone I use LauncherPro (paid version) and I love both. They've both got their benefits, Toshiba Launcher is just amazing on a tablet. Vegan 5.1 Beta.
One of my few complaints (other than many apps not switching to landscape mode..) is that when I'm holding the tablet in portrait mode, sometimes my screen will turn off. I guess the power button is receiving enough weight/pressure on it that it's going off. And then sometimes it will reboot on me when I go to wake it up! How annoying is that?! I know that I could just switch the tablet upside down.. but I should be able to hold it any way I want.
Oh, and the Rain-X idea was great. Definitely fewer finger prints and my fingers seem to glide across the screen now.
Also, Multi Picture Live Wallpaper is great.. I was getting tired of seeing the scrunched/weirdly resized wallpapers!
Lastly, Dolphin HD with a few addons = awesome. Web2PDF so I can email the PDF to my printer, Screen cropper which lets me save as an image so I can write notes on it with Pocket Sketchbook Pro, and the Blue Theme make it really awesome.
Weather Widget
Weather forecast widget is free, but the text is too crumped together and the 4x1 just doesn't look right.
Then I tried "weather widgets", but it kind of sucked.
Then I found out that Fancy Widget has a Pro version which does what I need for $1.99 - works great.
Task Widget
Taskos looked very promising, as it syncs with Google Tasks and offers a 4x4 widget on the home screen - something I was excited about. What killed my excitement was placing the widget on my home screen and finding out that - yeah it's 4x4 alright, with only 2x2 actually having any freaking content!! The rest of it was black! On the phone it looks correct, so this is definitely a tablet issue. That sucks hard.
So finally I found one that actually works, it's called Ultimate To-Do List, the licensed version is $5 and it syncs with ToodleDo which costs $14.95/yr and up (if you require subtasks like me).
I haven't done any digging yet on a good news widget. With almost 100 page views I'm surprised nobody has any widgets they recommend
Scrollable news widget and a home launcher that allows you to change the number of rows and columns on your screen. I have mine set to 10 columns and 7 rows and I can make my news widget as large as I want and it will fill the Widgets space
Oh and springpad is one of the best to do lists ever with a very nice expandable widget as well

Scrollable news widget and a home launcher that allows you to change the number of rows and columns on your screen. I have mine set to 10 columns and 7 rows and I can make my news widget as large as I want and it will fill the Widgets space
Click to collapse
LauncherPro lets you set your own # col/row and you can drag widgets to resize them on the screen, but I like the Toshiba launcher more because of the nice scrollable application list and they way they cleaned it up and put it at the bottom even though it's landscape mode - I love it. I can live with the defined # of cols/rows and screens, thats not a big deal. I know I'm limiting myself to just the widgets that exist that can take advantage of the tablet's size, but there has to be SOMETHING out there by now, right?

Hmm I will check that out, thanks
For weather related Widgets I recommend this app:
Palmary weather app. Tried to paste the appbrain link here but my GTab wont let me!
