Hopefully a worthy adversary to wm5

My God. Time to change my nappy.
We're shipping them in June -- we're announcing it today because we have to go get FCC approval... we thought it'd be better to introduce this today rather than let the FCC introduce this.

Have to wait to Q4 in Europe... So I guess it'll hit shelves next year at about this time
seen this Advertisement for it?

Apple iPhone announced
Steve Jobs has announced the iPhone.
And the Apple fan boys have started already.
I would imagine that phone manufacturers like HTC will be relieved by the spec since they would have feared a truly innovative product.
As it stands, the iPhone is a poor relation to the TyTN.
just.......fracking......sweet.....must....stop....droooling.....
Holy freak, that's one sweet design.
HTC better start thinking and not just add a new feature once a year!
having just seen this on CNN News (thats all the bloody Germin hotel has in English) I have to say im not overly impressed. the screen looks good, the browser capability is excellent but apart from that theres nothing there that the TyTn cant do, in fact there was no mention of 3G and Video Phone. So what if itll have a decent music player, my SEW850i has a good MP3 player, its a good phone, it has 3G and Vid, browsers crap but hey if you want to look at web stuff use a PC
Take a look at the videos at apple.com looks awsome... I want one NOW!
Some thoughts... I can't see how it would work for a non-alphabetic language. Hand-writing recognition is easier with a stylus, IMHO.
It seems more like a cool toy. Lots of cool functionality, but limited in its Apple way as usual.
But at least give something for HTC to shoot for.
darn.. the phone looks very much similar to Windows based type, but much more fancier. With the multi-touch screen that allows you to zoom in by 'spreading' two fingers.. and how the screen change in a scrolling style.. just makes is much.. 'adorable'. And, as with the Apple's history, I think it will have all the stuff that is necessary .. such that there won't be any need for iphone-developers.com Again, since i'm on a low budget, it is out of my reach anyway.. good to have cheap and affortable WM version. Hope the Crossbow will do better.. and . . well, at least give us some eye candy?
... cause I have seen the future.

Sorry. But we are using real "crap" right now!
Maxi
damn thats some nice hardware ... if that thing didnt have apple "software" on it id prolly look at getting one. yahoo news was saying a retail price of $500 US for the 4 gig version ?
id miss my warez too much
Now that DOES look nice.
I'm watching BBC News 24 right now and they say that they have a feature about it coming up soon.
It has some nice innovative features but Apple don't seem to be saying too much about the hardware architecture - more specifically the CPU.

vijay555, unless Apple provides *NATIVE* SDK I won't consider this phone as it means there is no possibility for interesting 3rd party applications (Tomtom is the first that comes to my mind) and I can't create applications.
Widgets are not the same thing as they do not have access to full system resources like Windows Mobile native and to an extent Compact Framework based applications.
Without native SDK this is not a true smartphone but more like Blackberry or a fancy high end phone.
It's on BBC News 24 right now...look VERY nice.
IPod - check
Pocket Computer - check
Cell Phone - check
Blackberry? Oh bugger! Well it's what the clueless jouralist said - I do hope he's wrong. Maybe he just mean blackberry-like features.
Raven - I'm inclined to agree with you re the SDK. Note, my comment re "defecating on my microphone" is based solely on it's cosmetic appearance.
No one can deny, it's a beautiful piece of engineering. Frankly, I'll probably buy one just to put it down my pants (underwear for those of the US persuasion).
No Windows Mobile manufacturer has come close to achieving the asthetic beauty of Apple engineering (well, except for the black diamond, but that's 600 times more expensive).
I have no doubt the interface work will also be topnotch.
This is not to put down current WinMob hardware. Well, actually it is. Apple has buying power and engineers. I love HTC's manufacturing quality, but Apple is lightyears ahead of the game (well, 5 years according to Steve) in terms of execution. I love my Hermes, but the iPhone looks great.
Whether those of us who rub their hands together at the prospect of modding and enhancing will get much out of it is yet to be seen. I've said before, I buy WinMob because I can program and enhance it. Even with second class hardware, that would still be my first consideration.
However. We are not Apple's market. Apple's market is average buyers who want to switch their bluetooth on and it work. No A2DP, no stutters, no "set as wireless stereo". Switch it on, music comes out of the things on your ears. Those guys will love it. I love it.
However, I have some ideas about bringing some of the goodness home to our phones
V
Here's a BBC News web site article...http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6245991.stm
I can't possibly imagine Apple releasing a phone based on OS X, going up against Windows and NOT having at least as full an SDK as WM5. I also can't imagine it'll work as swell as it looks. We're on what generation of WM devices and they're just now starting to get reliable and intuitive.
Time will tell!
But yeah, the kid side of me is more than happy to shell out $600 tomorrow. It's that learning how to write for a new OS that kind of sticks in my throat.
Has anyone here seen this phone?
ww.youtube.com/watch?v=PhKxpYRip18
Pretty awesome GUI. Would it be at all possible for someone to mimic it's interface on an android phone? Even if it were like say, a home replacement app?
The idea behind the interface is pretty cool, but this phone leaves something to be desired.
the zooom control looks like 100times better than pinch to zoom
feels more like the android cut thing for setting images... or like zoom on andwobble
but no big news.
don't fancy the ui. I can use my android phone single handedly just great
And I would miss kinetic scroling... If they don't include it, they are nuts
At 5:44 she actually did what I would fear the most - release her thumb too early, starting the wrong app
plus the phone is still to lame for everyday use...
But design looks very nice. and the idea is based on minority report xD
Yeah, I've posted about this phone in a few threads (X10). It looks prety tight. Hasn't been released yet. I'm gonna get one just to have it, when it comes out. Should be easy to port to android phones.
But I'm getting THIS one in a couple of months.

nice to hear someone saying that
i have also known the first else for ... a long time? and always liked the gui. would be nice to have that for my android phone
i just noticed the first else device looks kind of like a complete black, even slightly flatter (backside) iphone 4g xD
Is that Apples new design this year? (The flat gray color, no more shiny chrome)? And also no more roundness? (How the bezel is like flat going to the top and bottom)
It certainly presents some interesting concepts, especially with one thumb use.
However I don't see their entire OS being a success in the near future.
JUST CHECKED OUT THE HD7 AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW BAD ASS IT WAS! I LOVE MY EVO AND ALL, BUT COME ON... THAT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OS ON A PHONE I'VE EVER SEEN.
sent from my bad-ass EVO!
You find large CGA coloured squares beautiful?
Yes, simple is beautiful. Look past the squares. Look at the topography, the keyboard, the transitions, the colors, the overall design, the difference. It's not just a standard desktop with boring icons.
Again, I love Android and my EVO, but **** man that Windows Phone 7 is definitely a contestant for my next one. I hope Google can redesign some things to get away from the standard boring iPhone esque look and feel.

You've got Andy Worhol pop art on your wall at home don't you?
Each to their own, and I'm glad that you've found an interface that suits you.
Personally, I gave up CGA back in 1986 along with my 4.77MHz CPU (ah nostalgia).
Come on guys... you can't possibly think a desktop with icons looks good on a phone. It's ok, you won't hurt Androids feelings.

That's one of the most asinine things I've read. Cause the entire OS is the home screen?
Also, it cannot be CGA because it displays too many colors, and the resolution is much higher. At least don't embarass yourself when you're trying to be witty.
Also, VGA obsoleted CGA and EGA in 1987. In 1986 the best you could do was EGA, which was 16 colors at < VGA resolutions.
I still can't believe there hasn't been one person in agreement. Anyways I realize this thread is as good as dead here on xda.

I see you're still trolling.
Perhaps it would leave you in better stead if you looked up the definitions of metaphore and simile?
Just a suggestion.
I will kep it alive with giant letters
Windows needs a cool little mascot like android. I love that little guy.
Sent from my bathroom, with toilet paper.
I agree 100%. I now own the HD7 and I LOVE IT! The phone I had before was the Samsung Vibrant. Windows Phone 7 OS simply rocks!
I have to agree as well. My first smartphone was the G1. I loved it. Since then, I've owned the myTouch 3G and I like it as well. Android OS is great, but you have to agree that it's a little laggy at times and definitely not polished. I wanted to try something new and fresh so I took the dive on an HD7. I chose it over the myTouch 4G. I thought I would regret this decision and I even went back to the T-Mobile store to return my two HD7's for the myTouch 4G after 2 weeks of use. But something funny happened when I was at the T-Mobile store. While I was waiting for my turn (the store was full), I started playing around with the myTouch 4g and was amazed how laggy it is. I also compared the two form factors and decided that I could not give up my 4.3" goodness. The web surfing experience is awesome as is everything else. So, in the end, i just walked out of the store happy that I had a smartphone that was satisfying. It really is. No regrets.
I have to agree that the phone is as fast and snappy as the iPhone. And I also agree with you that the interface is very well done. The experience is quite nice. I know it doesn't have anywhere near the amount of apps as Android, but there is something about this OS that is just...delightful. The app market will grow soon enough and I have all the apps for everyday use. Web, mail, Slacker, Office integration, etc.
I know it sounds crazy. You have to use it to know what I mean. People who dismiss it outright just don't want to hear about anything other than what they have and will defend it 'till the end. That's fine, but also try to keep an open mind from time to time. If you haven't experienced WP7, try it next time you are at the carrier store. You will be surprised.
Hey guys, I bought the keyboard dock for my tablet but I find it hard to browse the web and use the IM apps with all the small fonts and the angle of the tablet when docked. I either have to stay farther away from the tablet and then I'm having trouble seeing small stuff (or tapping it) or I have to get close to the tablet but tilt my head a lot in a way that is very uncomfortable.
Do you guys know of any case that has adjustable angles like this one here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StilGut-Ult..._1_sc_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1333061202&sr=8-13-spell ?
What I actually need is a browsing and typing angle that is lower than the keyboard dock but not as low as the Samsung Book Cover's typing angle that it makes you hover over the tablet.
The one I linked to above looks promising (see 3rd pic), but the reviews don't say anything about this.
Thanks!
Pyro Skins do one that looks like that one but cheaper, about £18. Theyre based in the US but will deliver to the Uk, the 18 quid includes delivery
That's no good. I need it shipped to Romania, so it's gotta be from Amanzon UK 'cause Amazon US does not ship to Romania
Anyway, the price isn't my main concern. It's the fact that with these types of accessories you never know if they really suit your needs until you see them in front of you (or maybe a video review on youtube, lol, I just had a thought).
I've got this case, and while I kept it, I'm not 100% happy with it:
Good:
high quality
good protection
Bad:
personally don't like the leather texture
even if it says "slim case", it's a bit thick and heavy
Most important: if you have it latched in one of the two stand positions, it will mask the speaker at the bottom, leading to bad sound experience. This is especially annoying when watching videos
Hope that helps. Maybe I can take some pictures soon.
I understand that these forums are most likely largely male dominated and some of my male friends were disgusted when seeing what I recieved today (and females)... but there are so many viewers there's got to be some girls out there alike myself who would go for this sort of thing~
I received this today:
http://imgur.com/a/GM7GD#0
I found it while contemplating getting one of these:
http://www.facebook.com/SoTotallyLame
But since they were too expensive I went for a cheap asian alternative.
Pros:
Very cute, ridiculous etc.
Your phone looks edible.
Good build quality - these bits of candy won't be coming off any time soon
Cons/practicalities:
Makes your phone a lot heavier (1.5x?)
Because it's so fat and heavy, it's a lot more difficult to handle the phone than not having it
Difficult to press the power button
The material they made the cream out of and a few other things is a bit sticky, so lint and dust will easily cling to it
Just looking at it will make you crave candy
I'm definitely going to use this for a few days to see how it goes.
It was roughly $20, took 2 weeks to get to me (1 week before I was expecting it). It came in a delicate white bag was well packaged. It had a nauseating plasticy smell.
Anyway, for those who are interested, here are all the cases in the store for SGS.
http://stores.ebay.com.au/directstation-aus/_i.html?_nkw=i9000&submit=Search&_sid=1029916421
If anyone has found them cheaper, please tell me!

You've got a very frilly sense of feminity, sister. Anyway, you can buy cases like this in FocalPrice (cheap, no shipping fees) or DealExtreme. Like this one:
http://www.focalprice.com/MSA11X/Cute_White_Cream_Red_Ribbon_Strawberry_Cake_Phone_Protective_Back_Case_Cover_for_Samsung_i9000.html#.UGhuYYgqdUA
For reference, something like this:
http://www.focalprice.com/MSC31B/Butterfly_TPU_Back_Case_for_Sumsung_i9000.html#.UGhvaogqdUA
is the girliest I'd put on my phone.
it looks nice but i dont think it will be suitable for daily use does it? it would make the phone more bulky and it wont be comfortable on hand (for me at least)
It's funny I actually like most feminin accessoires like this case, however from a professional point of view it's pretty much frowned upon if you have your "own style". It's different if you are in an artistic field of work, but choice is pretty limited for men in usual life.
Like this pink case for example;
http and the : and the // and then the link: cdn2.mobielbereikbaar.nl/product/OX11365740/accy-flip-case-genuine-leather-pink-samsung-i9000-galaxy-s-i9001-galaxy-s-plus_0 and then add .jpg
really liked it for it's colour. I'm just a straight male guy, and I bought the black version for above reasons, but I actually like the pink one more, just for its colour . It's easy to say "to do as you like and don't mind what others think", which may be true if you are in high school, but it has its consequences in life for 18 and up.
ADD: you can't post links if you have less then 10 posts , and I do not like I need to spam before I can just USE the forums
The 10 post rules is there to stop the annoying spam bots. Don't worry, you will exceed 10 posts in no time
