Stuck download notifications - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

My droid, and another that ive seen running a different rom, has a problem where a completed download notification will get stuck in the notification pulldown. i can clear it (well them, as theres 4 now) but they just come back when i download something else. its really annoying and i want to fix this. anyone else have this issue?

I've had that happen to me, somehow the download gets stuck in the cache and keeps re-appearing in the notification bar.
I fixed it by navigating to the "cache" (/cache) folder on the root of the phone (at least its there on the cdma hero) and deleting the file named "downloadxx.apk". If you wanted you could just clear the whole folder to fix the problem too.

Apps Force Closing after changing icon within APK

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. I've been checking the forums off and on for a couple of weeks and have yet to see the issue brought up.
The title says it all. Ever since I first got my EVO I've been changing the icons within the apk files for all my apps; both system and data apps. And, I never had an issue... Until just recently.
Changing the icons as I do necessitates changing them every time there is an update to an app. However, within the past couple of weeks a few updated apps are Force Closing after I change the icon. I've tried clearing the data and cache for that app as well as clearing the cache for the phone but to no avail. If I redownload the app from the Market all is well again but as soon as I change the icon it Force Closes when I try to launch it. It is only on a couple of apps but is driving me crazy and seems to be increasing. So far I have had it happen with Voicesearch, Root Explorer, and Barcode Scanner. Does anyone have any ideas on the cause and more importantly a fix or workaround?
Thx

Not sure if this is your problem but i had that happen once. It was because the app had switched from a "rgb" png to a indexed icon. I had to mod the icon I was dropping in to make it match. Like I said not sure how or why this worked but worked for me.
Interesting. I've got to admit I am unfamiliar with "indexed icons." How do you determine whether it is an rgb png or an indexed icon and assuming it is an index icon how do you convert a png to one?

[SOLVED] TF saying update available but not showing?

if i try to go to the manual update search...its grayed out, however it says "There is an update for your device. Please check notification." but there is no update icon showing up. ive expanded the notifications, but its not showing up.
I've rebooted many times, by powering off or using hard reset, but don't get the notification for update, even though System Update says that there is an update. Anyone knows what's wrong or how to fix this issue?
keep in mind, that i am NOT rooted.

where are you looking for the notification ? its not in the pop up notifications (bottom right), its an icon on the bottom toolbar .... an up arrow if i recall ....
apologies if you knew that but id hate to not point it out as the term 'notification' often means the pop up area
I've got the same issue. Also tried deleting update.zip using adb, but can't find any trace of this file anywhere.

anybody have a solution?
bump...anyone?
i know others were having the problem....did anybody figure out a solution?
anyboy know if clearing storage/wiping data will fix the issue?
I had this issue after the 1st FOTA update.
At the time, I spoke to Asus CS. They hadn't seen the issue. The only fix was a factory reset...
There is a solution! I had this problem too. It was driving me nuts for the whole of yesterday!
Go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>All
Look for DMClient.
Tap on Clear data and Clear Cache.
Do the hard reset (hold power button for 12s until TF turns off).
Turn on.
Update should show in notifications now!
I'm not sure if a normal reboot would work above, but the hard reset did it for me!
Hope this helps!
you rule!!!!
this worked perfectly. FW is now downloading.
thanks so mch!!!
Brilliant! Problem solved. Thanks.
Thanks you rule. This has been bugging me for ages!
Didn't require a hard reset just power off and reboot.
please help, I will not reveal more.
I tried to wipe data and hard reset, but nothing.
please help, I try to update but it stops. Android shows a green icon with the exclamation!

Disappearing Icons

I've had a few android phones, but so far I have not run into this issue with any of them. I am running stock + root (though the issue was happening before root) and every once in a while I'll notice an icon is missing from one of my home screens.
Typically, it's been my Scrabble icon that goes missing. Sometimes it will be TouchDown or Words With Friends that disappear, or it will be a widget. Has anyone encountered this?
I've tried doing a reset of the phone, but still run into the same thing after a few days. I have checked to make sure that an update was not done to the app, turned off auto-updates for any of the affected programs that I've noticed so far, but still I find that the icon disappears.
I'd appreciate any input as to a way to find out when/how the icon was deleted from the screen. Since I'm the only one that uses my phone, I don't think it's being dropped accidentally by someone else. I do know that I have used an app's icon before going to bed, but when I wake up the next day, it or one of the others that was there is gone.
Have you moved any of these apps to the SD card?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
Nope, not running anything from the SD card. I use it mainly for moving music and the occassional movie between two different devices.
That was happening to me too on stock 2.3.6 but after I flashed sky ics ROM it fixed it

it has happened on every single rom. including skyics....skyics does it the least out of any ROM I've used...but it still does it...i have 155 apps installed...every other reboot I end up with 150 or less....
and I could reboot again...and lose more apps...i have to reinstall them...sometimes they will all come back after a reboot
NONE are moved to SD, default install location.
this is the only droid that has done that...it's really weird.

[Q] Disable OTA and remove notification?

I'm trying to figure out how to stop updates and remove the notification on my Nexus 5. I've attempted a few ways I've seen people suggest to no avail (including what seems to be the most popular here on xda... dropping FOTAKill.apk into the /system/app folder). Anyone have a way to do this without touching any of the other background services?
Edit: I *think* it's gone, and I believe the FOTAKill.apk did work eventually. I had to download the update, delete the update out of cache, and then tell the updater to initialize. It did its countdown as if it would update, got to zero, and did nothing - but "Cancel Install" was still there. After that, the notification hasn't popped up again (I did a reboot as well)

[solved] Ringtones and Notifications mysteriously missing

I have several custom "Ringtones" and "Notifications" files inside these folders and they would always be included on the list of available sounds whenever I wanted to select one as a default. Suddenly they are all mysteriously missing on any of the lists.
I thought perhaps I denied a permission somewhere that is preventing my Pixel from seeing them, but I combed through everything. I went into Settings - Apps - Reset app preferences, but that didn't fix it. Toggling on a few more permissions for storage didn't fix it either. I rebooted after everything and still no change. I also checked the permissions on both of these folders and they're correct. I even defrosted everything I previously froze in Titanium Backup.
Odd thing, they were all working just a few weeks ago and I can't for the life of me figure out what changed aside from the 7.1.2 update.
Does anyone have any idea what may have happened or where else I can look? It's not worth the bother of a factory reset, but I sure would like to have Pink Floyd back.
SOLVED: Well good grief, all I did was delete the files and then copy them back in. Now they're all showing up like they should.
