HTC Rhodium vs. HTC HD2 - General Topics

you may be thinking of course the HD2 is better because of its processor speed.
well do you really need a 1ghz processor because the rhodium apparently runs fine running the hd2 system. also the rhodium has a slide out keyboard. but i if you are thinking that i'm just taking the rhodium's side i'm not because there is some better things about the hd2 like the screen and the thinness etc.
Thanks

Well a lot of people form the rodhium go to the hd2. The 1 GHZ is really noticable with a touchpro 2 there is much more lag etc. Wich really downgrade the user expierce. On a rodium evrything run a lot slower. You need take care of the ram etc. In my opinion the 1 ghz it is not something extra it is really useful. For the rest the hd2 is more future proof. The populairity says enough why there are not so much tp2 users.

but it is a lot lot lot easier to type on the hard keyboard.

That was exactly my concern (and it was a big one!), but I finally gave in and decided to try the HD2 for the 2-week period that Tmobile allows here in the states. I had extreme reservations about switching to the on-screen keyboard...but after getting comfortable with swype, I can say that I'm at about 80-90% of the texting speed I could achieve with the hardware qwerty, and the ease of one-handed typing and the loss of bulk MORE than make up for that little bit of difference, for me anyway.
The HD2 also affords you sooo much more "breathing room" with the increased memory and proc speed compared to the Rhodium...it really is great to not have to worry all the time about installing or running too many things at once like I had to on my TP2. I still keep it around for tweaking/testing/playing, but I can honestly say I've never once felt the need to go back to it, even when it comes to typing.
But, it's definitely an individual choice...among those of us who moved from the TP2 to HD2, a bunch are thrilled with the new hardware, but many also opted to ditch it and go back. So...try the HD2 for a little bit if you have the option, especially with swype, and see what you think

thanks thats changed my view

I might also suggest browsing the HD2 (Leo) forums here too, just to get an idea of what different things users are experiencing etc

Yes "orb3000" is actually the name of a secret government project where normal lab rats and copy editors were surgically enhanced with bionic thumbs.

Right, actually I,m the most advanced prototype of humanoid with 4hands

I take the Rhodium anytime. I'd rather wait for the new Touch Pro.

I give my vote to the Rhodium.
When my Raphael brake down (a bath in Sprite) i was able to choice between HD2 and Rhodium, I was able to test HD2 which move allot more faster and it's cheaper (in my country) and the rhodium who has the almost "orgasmic" keyboard, my choice was Rhodium and I love this phone.

I have both devices.......
Both are excellent PDAs........
HD2's advantage: SPEED.....very little lag. Having owned several WM devices I never had a device faster
Rhodium's advantage: Keyboard. If you been using PDAs with keyboard, it will take some time to get used to the HD2
Overall I have to pick the HD2.......

HD2 for the capacitive screen. Resistive screens are lame. I thought resistive screens were pretty cool when they were the only ones I had (XPERIA X1), but as soon as I tried a capacitive there was no going back.
Personally for me I type (barely) faster on Swype than I could on the Rhodium's keyboard, so I'd never take it with that extra bulk. Did I mention the resistive screen?
Psst.. in the stickies the Leo did edge out the Rhodium for HTC device of 2009.

if you haven't voted yet think about the price the rhodium is so much cheaper about 100 pounds

I had no idea HD2 has a capacitive screen! I guess I'm a little behind on that. My vote went to the Rhodium, mostly because of the keyboard and maybe some other little features.
I'm definitely considering trying out the HD2. Ithink I'll wait for more 1Ghz Snapdragon Phones to come out later on this year or early next year instead of switching to the HD2. I'm also hoping by that time the Android development for Rhodium will be at least close to fully operational.

In this day & age (21st century) you need to have 1Ghz Snapdragon or greater cpu!

Upgrade from VOX- Move to PPC or Smartphone ?

I am using my VOX for almost one and half years and I am feeling like upgrading to a more recent product. Since many of you are having a wide experience of using PPC I would request you to suggest my next upgrade as to whether to go for a PPC or remain in smartphone. My thinkings/doubts apprehensions are as follows:
1) I am being allured by Touch varieties of WINMO, the reason being, bigger screens, smart looks and above all the wide availability of softwares both in numbers as well as variety. In fact I love to install various apps to my phones and enjoy fiddling with them.
2)UI or Touch Operation : Though I have recently purchased a Nokia 5800 and I have quite well adapted myself fully on Symbian touch screens. I would like to know what are the advices/experiences of actual users in WINMO. By the way the TouchFlow3D/2D attracts me very much and I like the kinetic scrolling and gesture control of WINMO devices.
3)Although it is pretty sure that I will go for HTC (of course due to this huge and unique support of XDA-DEVELOPERS) is there any other practically viable alternative?
4)The battery lives of WINMOs are generally poorer than symbian etc. What about battery lives of PPC in comparison to Smartphone (WinMOs)?
Thanks
Hey
I can't answer all your questions, but here are my 2 cents:
For battery life the s710 is awesome. Online reviews of other phones will tell you what to expect from a new phone, you'll have to do the research.
Personally, I wanted my phone to be a PHONE with internet, etc on the side.....rather than a mini-internet browser with some phone functionality on the side (if you see what I mean), which is why I went for an s710.
The next best option I see is this, and I was considering this for myself at one point: http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=161302
Basically I think you'll have to decide what you want out of the phone. Do you want to be fiddling with a stylus to send texts? Ive been told touchscreens won't work out if its drizzling outside and specks of water are splashing on the screen. Touchscreen is cool, it's just not as precise as a keypad.
There are loads of advantages to PPC's (many of which you know). You'll just have to figure out what suits you personally.
(also there's no alternative to doing the leg work.....if you want to find the best deal out there, you'll have to do the research).
Oh and also, if you find something cool let me know.....
What about the HTC Hero?

Hero is a Android phone which I am interested in. I will only restrict my choice within WinMO.
I'm going to "upgrade" in 2 months. I'm going for the Touch Pro 2.
It has WM 6.1 pro with a free upgrade from HTC to 6.5, the big keyboard, high res screen (480*800).
Further it has 3G, GPS.
To me it looks like a kick-ass phone. I'm saving up money for it right now

New Phone

im getting a new phone but dont know what to get. I want something with a capacitive screen and it has to be pretty fast what do you guys reccomend. I was thinking omnia hd but from what I read no one knows if they are going to be getting updates or anything so i dont really want it now and no iphones not a big fan. So what phone do you guys think are good and fast thanks
The HTC Leo kinda sounds like what you want. It has the same minimalist form factor that the iPhone has, but it has a massive capacitive screen and a 1 Gigahertz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor, so speed is certainly not an issue. If you want more info, you can view pictures and datasheets here. However, keep in mind that it hasn't been released yet, so some info may be subject to change.
is it going to come out some time soon because i want to get the phone within a month
No, it will take longer to come out, have a look on touch pro 2 if you want a hardware keyboard or Hero, or diamond 2
Those are the best available
the only one out of those that i actually like is the hero because im looking for a capacitive phone but its not really an upgrade from my g1 i want something a little better.

how is the resistive on the touch pro 2 is it really sensitive. Would it be easy to text message with the touch screen
The resisitive is quite good, but honestly having that great keyboard I never use on screen keyboard
New here
how are you and how is your work?My name is brayden and nice to meet you guys.I am so happy to join in here.Have a good day!
Capacitive? The only Windows Mobile with capacitive is the upcoming Leo.
Then there's the other OS's.
Android: Hero?
iPhone.
Symbian: Omnia HD?
We are xda-devs, and specialize in WinMos. Which currently don't support capacitive ;P
dang that hecka sucks i had a nokia n810 which was capacititve drove me nuts lol. God so those are the three i have to choose from huh? well i guess it might as well be the iphone i already have the g1 love it but im bored with it lol.

Best Handset at the moment?

Please recommend me a new handset as I'm getting the bug for a new one again and I'm a bit out of touch.
I've had just about every handset HTC has ever made since the very first XDA I.
I'm not put off by size (I love and still use my Athena)
Must be fast and good at playing video/divx etc
Prefer some kind of flash.
I kinda like the Pro2 but worried its just a pretty face and no big performance increase?
Also concidering a Hero but worried about Android. Can I transfer all contacts, calender etc over ok?
Suggestions on a postcard please
The HD2 LEO is the latest and greatest with Snapdragon! See it's section for details:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=532
But if u want a keyboard, then the TP2.
Touch Pro 2 is the best hardware keyboard device!
We always want more!!
Snapdragon in a few years will be nothing and we still want more speed, more performance......
I strongly recommend you to buy Touch Pro 2. It is more than just a pretty face. It has a tilting screen. It allows for optimum viewing angle when typing, it allows you to easily watch a movie without holding your device, and it's great if you're using GPS navigation in the car.
Thanks guys, any comments on the Hero?
Are they easy to mod and transfer contacts etc from WM?
Hero comments here:

All can be done (almost all )

Hey orb, maybe there will be no keyboard and just visual & voice interface!
Also, there will be Kryptonite Batteries that go a year w/o a recharge!
don't worry about Android. I am a long time WM user, and had a G1 phone for almost a year now. Android is a very very nice system with a lot of software in the Marketplace.
That being said, I just got myself the new Acer neoTouch.
1 GHz Snapdragon, good amout of RAM, nice 3,8" WVGA screen, WM 6.5, configurable accelerometer, nice design, good build quality.
I would say, if you don't need a keyboard and don't want to wait for the HD2, this is the best device today. it is very speedy, has good usability and seems reliable so far.

If I could design my own phone...

Maybe this phone exists somewhere but if so, I haven't found it - and not for lack of searching. It all started with a 2007 Shadow. I loved the slim size and slide-out form factor, could live with WinMo if I had to but hated the 2.0 mp camera and non-touch screen.
I've tried the Incite, the Kaiser and currently use a G1 for day to day but none of them made me as happy as my Shadow. Part of it's because if I need to make a call I don't like the touch screen dialer. Another factor is the Blackberry-like keyboard arrangement on the Shadow - I really liked it. (I could never master texting using the usual numeric keys.) It's too cumbersome to pop out the G1 or Tilt keyboard, especially dealing with stupid automated phone systems.
I like HTC phones a lot because of the community but am beginning to wonder if somewhere out there is a phone better suited for me. I'd like to stay in the Android fold but does anyone have any suggestions? Has to be GSM and unlockable because I use a weird local carrier, too, although I might consider going back to Sprint (gag) for the perfect phone.
Terry
The Palm Pre might suit you...although there is always more to get out your device when you are running WinMo or Android on an HTC device. WebOS is fantastic but you're stuck with what they give you.

I played with a Pre at a local kiosk and was impressed by how nice it was but not enough better than the G1 to go back to Sprint. Now if the GSM version becomes more affordable and available, maybe...
Thanks,
Terry - now if I could just do a camera transplant on a touch dual
It would be something like this:
VGA 4" screen
From factor like HTC Universal
2ghz processor
1gb RAM
Hardware keyboard
Slim nice design
Made by HTC
A mix of Universal, Rhodium and Leo
I guess I have to wait till 2011 or 2012...
I remember reading that android was working quite well on the HTC Nike a while back. That's the same slide format as the shadow.

It is so very close, but I'm spoiled by the ability to do bar code scanning with the G1. AFAIK, the 2.0 cameras can't do that - which is why I made the comment about the camera transplant. I guess I could look into the port a little closer to see if they made it work or not.

So which is better the TP2 of HD2?

I've been wondering this for a bit. The HD2 has a touch bigger screen, and faster CPU. On the other hand the TP2 has a real keyboard (and a bangin one at that) and seems to be a touch better at battery life. The carriers have them listed both at $199 with 2 year plan. Before I got the TP2 I wanted an HD2 hands down. Now that I have been using the TP2 with keyboard for a while now I couldn't even imagine giving it up.
Once you go 1000 mhz, you dont go back to 528mhz. Even if it came with a bang-able keyboard.

If you need a physical keyboard (like you said above), then it's the TP2. Otherwise (my choice) = HD2.

We can agree to disagree like civil men. Having said that, your keyboard must be bangin!
If you want the tp2, you need to flash it. Because with the latest stock sense version (2.5) it is almost unusable. If you flash a decend rom, then you have a great phone. Also android running on the tp2 is getting better and better. And because you don't flash android, you can use windows mobile and android at the same time. So you can have the best of both worlds
My brother has a hd2 and he is very happy about it. It's faster then my tp2, but as I said, if you flash it to a decend rom, then the advantages of a hardware keyboard outweigh the speed of the hd2.
I agree, I Have a TP2 and changed for HD2, but I have make my choice and back to the TP2.....the keyboard is fantastic! not soo fast...but when you put another rom...more speed is not necessary...if you are a gammer don't buy a htc .....buy a Iphone lol
