I'll wait to congratulate when I can test it

If this is legit, consider my pants wet and my credit card ready to purchase an EVO Can't wait to load stock 2.2 onto it. Sayonara Sense!!!

I have no reason to believe any of the 3 would lie, esp after talking to ozzeh and Joshua over the past few weeks.
Its legit and real.

work of art.

I'm working on a 2.2-specific game right now. My Android experience is on an Ion with an engineering SPL. After reading a bit about how root has gone for newer-model HTC phones, I was saddened by the prospect of having FroYo sitting in AOSP for the taking, but having my phone refuse to take any non-Sprint-blessed medicine awaiting root.
Like the rest of you, I'm hopeful that this method is easy, stable, safe, and successful. I'm also hopeful that the WiMAX support in FroYo is compatible with this phone.

Great work guys!
Any ideas when you guys will be releasing the exploit? I am dying to delete some of these apps and have access to root programs!

i'd say that we probably shouldn't expect to find the methods for root until at least the evo comes out... maybe a few weeks after so HTC can't patch it immediately.

I highly doubt they'd stop the release of the device (with the hype that they have going for this phone) to fix an exploit, then go back into testing. Knowing Sprint / HTC that would prevent them from getting it out on the 4th.
In all reality the amount of people that buy this phone, less than 5% will root it. Some could argue that % is high even. With all the people I've met with Hero's... only one person has it rooted. He's a computer nerd like myself, and he doesn't even flash nearly as often as I do... maybe once every few months...

ill now its true when its on my phone and i have all the sprint bloat gone

Roaming Lol

Awesome work guys!

I wonder if they have system write access too or if this is a limited root like the Desire and Legend.

This is quite amazing, a week and a half before launch and already there's a method for root. Hopefully the guys behind it can give out the instructions on June 4th.

Its a shame really..but with all the shenanigans its hard to just say great job. I am grateful if this is indeed true as I have already pre ordered mine and would love root on it.
Its almost as if your not doubting that they gained root, but more that you question yourself if what they say is true lol...make any sense?
If this is true, great work.

It's already begun. This is a Desire HD. There is plenty already available, including CM7.
what doesnt work on cm7 for it?
Well the thing is, we have to wait n see what bootloader it has, if it the old one or the one that we can downgrade, then we can root, and if we can root, ummm im pretty positive we can flash any rom from the Desire HD rom section.

I already have a root procedure in mind that I think will work. The HBOOT doesn't matter - the exploit in the newer HTC devices was not in the HBOOT. But the radio version does.

Momentarily. The Aria will still need support for CM. I'm it. This device is established and has good support already. We just need to document the procedure to root and get custom recovery on it, which will be a little more complex than the Euro DHD.
regoice, the great and mighty attn1 has come to the inspire, not sure if its a good thing or not as i still am using my aria but.... oh well.
I will have this phone when it comes out on the 13th, looking forward to some modding. I'm coming from an iphone, JB, customized etc, it's no longer any fun. Hope the roms work and the root is easily attainable, I will be back in here when i get the phone....5 days
I will be getting one of these on launch, though I'm not sure if stores are going to have the phone for a more expensive price than what's shown online. I'm coming from an HTC Fuze and this will be a big improvement for me....now I'll have a nice shiny new gadget to sleep with.
I'm hoping that by some stroke of luck I'll get one that allows sideloading but if not, there are ways around that....I don't like my devices being locked in any way. How long does it generally take to root new phones when they're out? I'm new to Android (been a WM person for quite a few years now) so I'm still trying to read as much as I possibly can about the OS and how it works.

The complexity of rooting is dependent on the device.
Some phones are rooted even before launch day, hahaha.

Thanks for the information! Yeah I'm looking forward to this Sunday - I'm probably going to just go in the store when it opens and grab one up then waste the ENTIRE DAY tinkering with it and giggling like a baby with candy.
One thing I didn't see in those articles was the radio firmware for the phone. I've installed and tested... quite a few radios on my Fuze in order to achieve the best possible phone and GPS signal I can get. Is this possible once the phone is rooted?

All signs point to yes, undoubtedly we are going to blow this Inspire 4G up with root goodness, then once we get a custom recovery BAM! custom roms are soon to come after that. Overclocking the phone will yield results similar to Dual Core devices as posted by me in another thread.
The real power of this phone will shine brightly after all the above

So is it safe to go buy the dhd right now? Think there will be root forthe telus desire hd? I can get contract price out of contract today

Htc inspire Root?

Figured out the captivate really fast and back to htc after a long time. Has root access been figured out yet? and if it has could someone point me in the direction?
I really am not being crappy with this comment so please dont take it that way but....
have you read the Dev threads yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
yeah I read it. I might wait until an easier way of rooting comes along. I've borked many an htc in the past and frankly I paid way too much for this beauty to wreck after one day.
Might be a month or so for the easier way, i did mine last night, not hard at all for me.
I don't have this phone yet, but just looking at the directions, it's not hard at all. Maybe just time consuming, if that.
I started doing it and going to take my time. I had to reinstall sdk because I formatted my laptop last night and started creating the gold card. ATT really keeps dropping the ball on these damn phones. When are they going to learn that the iphone is not king?
The only thing Im not sure of is the rom to get sound back. How is it as far as being like the original minus the bloat?
Is this a safe rooting and s-off method? are there any bugs reported?
Is there anyone in the Apple valley, hesperia, or victorville California area who can help me out by any chance? Get back to me please [email protected] thanks

My theory on the pending update

Hi guys,
Nothing scientific about my theory, but I dont think we will see an update until after the sensation comes out. T-Mobile knows there are a great number of people annoyed with the bugs the G2x has, and some of these people might be willing to jump to the sensation.
If the G2x update came out prior to the sensation release, it might actually hurt sensation sales because G2x satification would rise.
Just a thought, could be totally wrong.

the g2x is tmobiles flagship phone... you really think they are stalling the update on purpose?
i dont see how it would hurt sensation sales anyway, the phones are so different... i didnt want to wait for a sensation because of many other reasons...
The GB update comes out in the summer, which isn't here yet (6/21).
The sensation is out before so your theory is "true" one way or another.
Wait... what?
T-Mobile already made their money for the people who bought the G2x. A lot of people who will jump ship will still be within they're return period in which case Tmo doesnt make any more money off that same person buying the sensation.
Of course there are those who will jump ship outside of their return period, selling their G2x themselves. In that case tmo does make a little extra cash but I doubt their counting on that. I dont think the update has anything to do with the pending G2x release.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tmo's real money maker is the monthly plans. They care not about selling this device or that device or delaying this update or that update on purpose.

LOL, I have seen this play out several times on the Nexus One Forum.
1. After several days of people posting about checking and several faults alarms.
2. Someone will actually get the up-date and not know enough to do a logcat.
3. More reports and claims of faults alarms, then screen shots will start.
4. Finally someone will actually post a link to the update.zip
5. Then a bunch of Noobs jump the gun, flash update, and loose root and custom recovery.
6. After a couple of hours someone competent will create a rooted, deodext Rom that can be flashed from recovery without bloat and everyone can be happy
Patience is key

rofl. I love it.
To me, it can make sense to wait or to just release it. They obviously have a brand new phone that needs an update. That is hurting them, money wise, more then just releasing the update.
Although you may have people hold out for the Sensation. Either way you have some people who have a G2x now, looking to buy a G2x or Sensation, and some who got pissed, sold the phone, and moved to Verizon.
I always believe to fix the problem as soon as possible. The longer it goes on the deeper the cuts.
My G2x is fantastic though on CM7. So while I may benefit from the update indirectly, I'm not sitting by watching the clock for it.

Are we ever going to see a one click root for 2.3.3?

Just wondering if we will ever see a one click root for the HTC EVO SHIFT 4G running 2.3.3 :/
I used to root using ADB, actually, my samsung intercept is still rooted....But I have no warranty on my evo, nor do I plan on buying one from sprint.. Really don't wanna go through this phone like I did with my intercepts messing them up
(pretty much just want to fix my 3g speeds and use downloaded apps and one theme...not looking to do a bunch of roms or kernals or eclair etc like I did with my intercept before I moved to froyo haha.)
Highly doubt it since we figured out how to downgrade and root that way but you never know. There might be a dev out there looking for an exploit

You realize that after you downgrade you can flash any Gingerbread or ICS ROM that you like. You can also update to the latest radio's. The only this that will stay downgraded is bootloader.

One Click Root at this point will probably never happen. The reason is we have a downgrade root and the source to ICS is out in the wild so what few devs we have seem to be more interested in getting ICS working on the Shift. So if you want a rooted shift your only choice at this time is to downgrade.

also, this is a bit of speculation on our part... at&t could just be holding the boot loader unlock until the phone is actually released. we don't know anything for sure. best bet is to wait until sunday for some news. i also think that we should SPAM THEIR FACEBOOK WALL. I REPEAT: SPAM THEIR FACEBOOK WALL!!!!!!!

trololol. anything but that can't devs use the rogers boot loader unlock tool to help? won't that assist the devs to get the manual unlocking process off the ground, because the phones are basically identical?

Well, I was going to wait around until Sunday, but this seals the deal, on my way to AT&T right now.

Oh come now, DG! You ran off from the Atrix 4g and we got it done! (I was one of the few who didn't get the2dcour in his phone ) Your work is grand. This device is deserving of the AAA treatment, just give it a couple weeks and see how it all plays out!

It's happening. We got the movement started. The Vivid was unlocked and this will be too.
Don't make me bribe you

Honestly, AT&T needs to cut the BS.
This is unacceptable.
Time for us devs to start working on an unlock... *sigh*

Just cancelled my pre-order. If and when they ever get around to giving us an unlock or the devs here crack it, I might reconsider. Until then, AT&T can kiss my ass.
Yeah this is just speculation based on something from htcs end. We haven't heard anything from att officially yet
Edit: obviously this is being done by att, by who is to say they won't unlock it after a month or so

Wow..it's like the Atrix all over again
Glad that deal expired then lol..
Hopefully this article well be wrong in a month..

I'm pretty sure they said the same thing regarding the Vivid at first. It eventually got unlocked.
I think its still too early to totally freak out of this. All we have is one very generic quote from HTC and nothing from ATT yet. I think it will get done soon enough, if not... well then we can freak out.

I'm actually browsing these forums because I'm looking to replace my Atrix. When I saw designgear's comment I couldn't help but laugh....
Damn. I really wanted this phone over a Galaxy Nexus too...

I think it's the perfect time. The Vivid community waited too long and they had to wait 2 months to get an unlock from HTC

You're always welcome back on the "real X" side. HTC UK said on the 2nd the graphics issues were identifed and an update specifically for them (not 1.29) was due soon.
It's kind of an interesting position people find themselves in. With the X you get: funky Nvidia related crap, 32GB of memory, ****ty battery life and an unlocked bootloader. With the XL you get a better SoC, 16GB of memory, LTE, better battery life, tons of AT&T "enhancements," and potentially no way to remove them if the bootloader stays locked. Pick your poison.

Yup. I agree that it's still possible we'll get an unlock (like the Vivid), but no amount of pressure is ever too much. The more we press AT&T and HTC, the better.
They don't really care about our community or our protests. But, like a little pest, they want us out of their hair. If we continue to be pests, they will get frustrated and cede to us.
