Audible.com is beta testing their app. if your a member and sign up for the beta test, I believe you will get the APK. Even if you're not a current customer but have some books in your library this may be of interest.
Mostly I'm wondering if anyone else is able to get the app working well enough on our heroes to be able to listen to a book on it yet?
The app works great and looks very polished but playing audio is too choppy. Audible support has promised a fix in the next rev but just thought I'd ask for others with experience around here!
Found out they issued a new build! Audio quality is stellar now, anyone else out there an Audible listener that's excited about this?
How are you guys getting a hold of the audible app? I'm a member and shot them an email about it, but I have yet to hear anything back from them. I would love to get this app!

Does anyone know if the TellMe app has leaked out anywhere? Ive seen some demos and would like to try it out.
no it has not. im looking forward to this app too.
That's one of the sites I check frequently
I use voice command every day during my commute, and this looks like a great extension of that functionality. I've sent them an email about beta testing, but haven't heard anything back.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work. I'm talking about the skype video chat feature with a PC. So frustrated.
I tried it for the first time today and I have to agree. It wasn't showing friends on Google Talk that were online in the real app. And it wouldn't show anyone online in Skype. And on top of that, it wouldn't do calls between Gtalk clients or Skype either, it just kept dialing and disconnecting.
I uninstalled it, it's obviously junk.
I haven't have any problems with it yet (I've only used it a handful of times), I would not complain anyway.
It's a free app and it's being run on a phone released less than a month ago.
Time will help.
your more then welcome to write a better app
While it does have It's quirks when it does work it nor bad

No offense to op. impo, i think its disrepectful to the devs working hard to make apps or this app in particular, to post a thread just to rag on their work, which is obviously intended to improve OUR user experience. Android is indeed open source and if i want better, i am more than welcome to write up something myself.....to improve the app a pm containing your problems in detail wouldve probably been a bit more considerate, and a proper way to handle this issue. Good luck with future app flamings
i think this thread is useless. fring works for me perfectly. video chat does go down but that is probably because of the fact that qik is so garbage and EVERYONE is trying to use fring all of a sudden. their servers were probably not ready for the massive onslaught of the EVO. I feel like i do have the right to bag on Qik because they are supported by Sprint and all their $$$ and their video quality is nowhere near as good as fring.

right on. unlike other free or lite programs, this one doesn't include ads and it works fine for me. i've no complaints, and even if i did, no loss, it's free. maybe you should get an iphone...oh scratch that. steve-o looked like he was frustrated when he called his boyfriend, ives. plus it only does iphone to iphone on wifi.

Agreed.. Qik has been a 100% letdown.. Sprint should remove their affiliation and offer better alternatives. The verification system for Qik is lame, the constant updates in the last week has been lame.. Overall a garbage experience.
fring is ok, aside from that i keep seeing MagnusRagnarok posting with those letters and size that suck, and i think his the only one who does it, and everytime i see those letters i skip his post i have seriously never read what he has to say, its disturbing.
Works quite well for me (Fring) and I use it all the time. Qik? Total POS. I've never been able to use is successfully, and even if it I did, I can only call other Evo's? GMAFB Sounds like Apple's FaceTime crap.
+100 Fring - combines all of my "chat" and video conference apps into one, and does it on my cell phone! I video conference with people on PC's all the time with Fring. Sure, the quality isn't HD or anything, but... do I have to say it again? I CAN DO IT - ON MY CELL PHONE! LOL
While I'm repeating myself... Qik can KMA. Sprint should put their development money into Fring... its a lot farther along, and those guys deserve a big break.
WTF is up with Fring ???? been having problems with it for like the last 30 minutes... cant log in.. tried changing password... even tried it from a pc and no dice
iPhone just got a Fring update that bring video chatting. Coincidence?

well i guess service just got worst... it no workie for me tonight either
It works for me, pretty flawless too. Fring > Qik
I don't like how fring looks. I tried video calls on the EVO and there is so much white space, it makes it look cheap and ugly. I wish you could drag video windows around or make them full screen.
I just did an EvO to iPhone video with my friend and i had to keep the volume about half way, otherwise he sounds distorted on my end. Kind of sounds like my speaker is blown(its not) if i raise the volume passed the half way point. I could hear him clearly though. There were times where he said he couldn't hear me at all and he said he had his volume all the way up. I hope these are lil bugs that get fixed. Otherwise, it's pretty good

Amen to that. Qik is garbage. I can't see anyone putting that app over fring. More options and IMHO better interface.
i think fring removed skype due to verizon's contract with skype...i.e. no more video skype from fring!
hello everyone, especially developers.
i have recently bought a pair of Beats by Dre headphones, which sound incredible so i'm keepin' em despite the following.
the headphones have a control/mic box on the line, for pausing music and changing the volume and ending calls and so forth without using the phone.
the problem is, the controls are built to work with iProducts, so the only thing that actually works on my N1 is the mic and play/pause button.
if an awesome dev out there could make an app that listened for the specific keys of the headset and translated them into the correct commands, or if said awesome dev could think of a more integrated way to do this (i'm on CM6) i could pay that dev money.
all i can really offer is $20, through paypal, but if anyone reading this thread feels for the cause, up the ante.
i'll provide any information you need, obviously.
this is what the controls should do:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_oHcWa2roSA8/THSZRwZxTuI/AAAAAAAAADY/EL5co-8C9xo/s512/IMG_20100825_001228.jpg
this will be interesting to see if it can be done. I'm curious though, are the bands around the 3.5 jack in the exact same spots as the bands on the default android headphones that came with the n1? if not i doubt this will happen, if so then i suppose its a matter if someone can figure out what resistances come across when the buttons are pressed.
...holy crap, those instructions are pretty convoluted lol "press button in rapid succession while the wire is upside-down and the humidity in the air is above 80% while standing on your head to scan through a track"
i'll throw a dub at the dev that comes up with a solution for this as well. i don't personally use them, but my sister does and I know she'd love this functionality as she is blind, so controls on the headphones are a big help.
OP: if you hold in the talk button on your beats, does it launch voice command on the phone?
I'll throw in $5 if this can be accomplished. Sorry it's not a lot, but college is expensive you know?
This should help whichever dev takes this on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5489250&postcount=3
Same problem here... Beats By Dre Solo and Xperia X 10. Hope this isn't a hardware issue, guessing so though. Please help if you can! I will donate $20!

Hey,
just a toss out to you guys...
I just bought some Solo Beats by Dre, and they came w. The controltalk wire as a surprise bonus. Despite it being a bonus, I felt it was a better justification of the price range I paid. Nevertheless, to the point...
I have a Motorola Milestone on Telus, in Canada. When I realized it didn't work, I noticed that pushing the volume button "currently" mutes the call, and shortly thereafter ends it. Upon further investigation involving multiple repeat calls to a friend, I noticed that if u hold the volume button (either the - or +, doesn't matter) it mutes it, and u can continue the call and unmute it via the touchscreen. However, no voice through the controltalk mic. Letting go of the buttons results in terminating the call.
Positive results include pushing the centre button at particular levels, the other end hears a beep when u do this, and sometimes clicks.
I hope this helps in some way shape and form, if the open source community could bring Androids to these headphones lineup of phones they function with, you open up a whole other market for them! It's good publicity for the open source effort. (And not that smeary "open" crud toted in media to sate the dumb deaf and blind.)
Also, I move that this thread be sailed on over to that there Android Software Development forum, what say ye??? Yarrr

Yarrrr, this is a currently relevant issue with Androids, and I don't have the ability to create new threads yet, therefore Im stuck groveling before you scallywags!
Let's have this thread moved please? (what pirate asks politely?)

Continuing to top this post until it garners some attention. If my support for open source is going to continue at all, it would be nice to be apart of the reasons that make it superior. (Community feedback + community programmers = more done for the user)
Is anyone at least working on this?
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
If someone could run down what kind of programming language needs to be used for this for me, that would be great. I guess from there you kind of need to buy a paid and take them apart to get an idea of all of the buttons etc. And the circuitry?
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
Most likely java with the android sdk
And you probably wouldn't need to rip the headphones apart, just use an ohmmeter on the jack
I did a search and noticed no one had a topic on it so if its been discussed feel free to delete this thread MOD, anyways Ive tried it out and I get some really mixed performance but all in all i like it. Any input as to any other apps that might be better? http://www.ithinkdiff.com/facetime-...3g-wifi-supports-iphone-4-iphone-3gs-android/
Edit:Sorry dont waste your time on this thread heres the original topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795362&highlight=Tango

11 page thread.
and in case you want to become a beta tester...here. Might be too late though.
But personally I haven't had the opportunity to try it yet. My brothers are both getting new 4th Gen iPod Touches soon though, one of which is going to be deploying soon. So I will definitely be using this app soon. It looks very promising.
It is decent but it kills your battery. The app keeps the phone awake. Once they fix this, it will replace qik and fring for me, but in the meantime I will stick with fring for cross platform video chat

Agreed. I'm sure they will have the battery drain fixed within the next week or so though. Anything to get rid of fring. Its a nice app and all, but I absolutely hate the UI. It looks like a 3rd grader's artwork.
Damn my bad i typed in tango in the search and nothing popped up :/ oh well, either way yeah i did notice that while i was testing it out it was murdering the battery, and I agree that fring's ui is really bad.

The Tango devs updated their the app and now video calls work. The audio issue has been fixed for the Droid Charge. Used it to make a call to an iphone friend and it worked flawlessly. Just thought I would spread the word.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I actually downloaded the tango app two days ago and uninstalled it and now i can't find it on the market.
Anyone else unable to find it? Has the icon changed?
Thanks,
Rick
I'll have to check this out.... it's funny, I bought a phone with a front-facing camera and never bothered using it, I guess I'll try this app out and see what the quality is like.
Few questions(dumb as they may be )
1: Can I call people who are on Skype with this app? I'm assuming I would have to wait for Skype to release a version for the Charge.
2: Does this app call other people with the app or does it just do a regular call..?
thanks :]
I tested it last night with the gf, pretty neat. It wouldn't connect at 3g (my area gets spotty between 3g/4g) but connected just fine over WiFi. From my experience, using a set of headphones is essentially mandatory for AT LEAST one party, if not both. With no headphones there was a significant amount of feedback on both ends, to the point where conversation was impossible. Perhaps this is just my experience though.
Finally, audio didnt work for the longest time
Sweet! Hopefully this will work between my charge and my wife's moto droid while she's out of town

1. No from what I have seen it looks as if the other party needs Tango as well. There is a contacts list from within and it automatically had some contacts in my list that already had Tango.
2. I think i answered #2 with #1.
Also I used it with speaker on and had no feedback . It was absolutely flawless that one time I used it. I was on 4G. It sucked battery hard though.
