Language Learning - Android Apps and Games

I just got a mailshot from SPB, one of their Android apps is 'Flash Cards' which is to help you learn a foreign language.
http://spb.com/android-software/flashcards/
It looks pretty good, keeping it nice and simple, not too many words. I wouldn't mind just learning some basics of other languages.
Are there better apps out there? Bearing in mind, I want it to be simple and basic?

No one? Nothing?

I should to get this thread up. Cause this software is really awesome. Does somebody has one?

This is awesome! I bought the German version and it's really helpful. Thanks for the information about this application.

wm6 by phil or by challhsu?

so you guys. vote which one you think is better at the moment.
and why?
Well you know which way I'm going to vote
Phil
i know you do. just trying to see what the users think about them, now that we have more than one.
And a tie?
I am using the last version of challhsu with the extras of Phil. I like much the last one of challsu, but it has much memory occupied with the Chinese sources that I do not need. In addition, she is slower in the starting and seems less fluid (at least when installing to it xt9 and other applications in English or Spanish).
I like the one of Phil, but for me it has a very important problem: It does not have services STK and I need them for my dual sim. If it corrects this and some other cochair in the beta version, insurance that I change me her to save memory.
And…
Very many thanks to both equipment for the excellent made work and to share it with the community.
It does have STK services i think.... Check the /Windows/ folder, I may have forgotten it while writing initflashfiles.dat

Now I have the challhsu rom. And I will hope to your new beta version to return to change (too many flashes in these days).
The 5 days that I walked with your ROM, I made a lot of softresets and searches by “stk” in the registry and in archives, but did not even appear to me nothing. It is certain that I did not look for "initflashfiles.dat", but as I did not find anything, and nobody responded here, I thought that you did not give importance to it. Surely that in the beta version, you will remember. And you will recover a faithful supporter. (Just in case, I also remembered you it here ).
Greetings and spirit.

I'm sorry to see that some are taking this as a competition. :-(
Both ROMs are result of a huge personal effort of their creators, and both deserve our deepest respect and support.
Let's please take it in a more colaborative way. Everybody will bennefit from the shared knowlege from these "masters".
Cheers for challhsu and Phil! ;-)
Keep the good work guys. Thank you for both your effort.

Ditto! Amen brother.
I appreciate the courtesy and the effort of good souls from this forum who sacrifice their precious time for the rest of us. Thank you very much guys (and maybe gals ;-))! Well done!
that would be a good idea! do both of the creators think that a collaboration between them would help bring out even better roms and even faster?
I don't think we would/could create a ROM together (timezones etc) but I do think that us sharing idea's etc between us will benefit everybody as a whole. If challhsu asked me for advice on how to do something i would gladly share with them, doesn't cost me anything, and in the end, we all benefit
Phil
There is no point creating this topic, it depends on users preference, as both phi l and challhsu continue to develop their ROM, it would just get better and better.
However, I truly appreaciate both of them for their hardwork. To me, both you guys are the best. No one is better than the other
Yea, both Guys (or teams) are nice...and do a good work. And more Developers =>more Alternatives...and everybody have different needings.
Still waiting for the Ultimative SuperPerfectRom for SmartPhone... but i dont know how it looks & feel..
Sancta Maria Mater Patientiae (ma quantae patientiae)
…ora pro nobis…
To seeing.
Nobody is going to leave littel morals advices and is going to think freely on which it seems to him each ROM, the comparative improvements that would implement and advantages of each one?
If saints us allows it, to me it would enchant to me to be able to follow a testing debate “collaborative” and contrasts between the two roms that allows:
- To improve both.
- To help to decide as will be more effective for the new people whom they wish to change the ROM or, even, for us when our necessities change.
- To generate different rom versions, adapted to the most frequent necessities (by profiles?).
- To help both teams to take the best decisions.
- And a long list of others of advantages.
Of course, if someone feels offended, that does not go this way. That here we are all very thanked for to both equipment and nothing else far from our intention that “to judge them”.

gTab Fans Website

I'd like to introduce everyone to a new website that I have created.
http://gtabfans.com
I have tried to create a website that will encompass as much information about the gTablet as possible. On this website you will find information about the firmwares, an installation guide (more to come soon, this represents a lot of work so far!), the market fix and a wiki with some very topical information.
I was getting a little tired of sifting through ages of forum posts to find out if a specific application would work, so I have created the Application and Game pages on the wiki.
I don't intend for this to take away from the community at xda-developers, I really like the atmosphere that we have created here. As such, there is no forum at gTab Fans. I simply want a nicer way of indexing the data available to us.
I am also looking for help. If you are interested in helping write guides, let me know!
I like it! Maybe it will help with the repetitive questions... Thanks for doing this....

Right now I need help getting people to stop using the app/game thread and start using the wiki. If you want to help fill in some applications that you've tried, that'd be great.
Looks good! I suggest adding section for stock TNT, for those who don't want to go the modded route.
Jim
I added this section yesterday. Good suggestion.
I'm looking for more suggestions, I will be adding TnT Lite and CyanogenMod installation guides. These should be pretty much the same.
Great Site!!
Downloading Dungeon Defenders as we speak. I had no idea about the game till I saw it in the game section.
I registered and added some games and apps that I have used on my gtab. let me know if you need any help as I am a web designer.
Gtab fan site
Great idea
Very helpfull especially for newbies like me.
I have to apolagize I tried to add some games and I think I may have accidentally deleted some info.
I am obviously not a programmer but if there is anything i can help with let me know.
Wyngnut
No worries, that's what wiki history is for
I'll probably code a php or python script that lets users add a game and it just stores it somewhere in a database and then I can add them in batches.
This would give the users who feel comfortable editing the wiki directly that option and the form for people who aren't so comfortable.
Thanks
Yeah I went back and It was corrected so I added games and didn't screw anything up this time. I will keep updating it and checking it. I am curious to see if there are any more unreal engine games like Dungeon Defenders on the horizon.
Wyngnut
We now have a game/application form. Simply fill out the fields and I'll post it to the Wiki after I make sure no one was abusing it.
Thanks! Great site.
Man awesome site....It was just what I personally needed to decide on what firmware to switch too, I just got done flashing my g tab to tnt lite 2.2 then 3.1, but after seeing the write up on Vegan, I had to flash to it and man if anyone is deciding, IMHO Vegan is amazing....so much faster than tnt and has soft tab buttons for the home, back and options button so u no longer have to struggle or mod your tab find them again what a great website and idea. Really has the most common things that will help out newbs like myself, great job and keep up the good work, I would offer to help but being new I don't know how much help I would be, but if I can be any help email me at [email protected]
Thanks for all the positive comments!
Curious but what's wrong w/ the tegratab wiki? http://wiki.tegratab.com/index.php/Main_Page
Seems like you have all the same sections, accessories, roms, apps, etc wouldn't want people to call us 'fragmented' now would ya .
This wiki was created as more of a Games/Apps "database" than anything.. I agree, the tetratab wiki is quite good.
I like the idea of having a quick reference to what can and can't run on the Gtab. I've added a few games that I know work on Vegan B5.
Sorry if it's been asked but is there a way to register to the site. Be nice to avoid using Capatcha (sp?)

[Q] I've never coded and I need some help

Hello,
Yesterday, I decided that I would learn to write for Android. There are a few games that I've always loved and want to be able to play on my phone. But alas, no one has made them for android. So, I would like to make them myself. I've already planned the design and layout and such. The only problem is that I've never written a single line of code other than a little BASIC as a kid, and those were just stupid little text-based programs to amuse my friends.
My question is, where do I start? I learn best by doing, so if there are some tutorials that are broken down--and I mean broken down--I think they'd be a great place to start. Everything I've read so far seems like a ball of confusion.
I've done a bit of web design for friends, but I've always just cheated and used Adobe Dreamweaver which writes the code for you. Are there any Dreamweaver type programs for Android?
I really would appreciate any help you guys can give me. I'm new to all of this and I'm a bit intimidated. But I know that this will be an awesome skill to learn, so I'm committed to it.

App development softwares for non-programmers

Hey there, I am a physician and I work in a busy hospital. Sometimes there are too many things to do and too many patients to attend to. I prioritize and re-prioritize my visits and procedures all the time and it's not easy using paper notebooks. So I need a special app for my phone and tablet with some special features. The basics are very similar to a database-driven combination of a task manager apps and to-do list apps but there are some features which I need to be specialize, like patients lab tests and procedures. I wonder if there is a WYSIWYG software which helps me develop my own app without coding.
Really appreciate any useful suggestions.

There is googles app inventor which is very easy but it will close soon. Its an online programming environment for those who don't know programming languages and is how I started with android apps. Its nearest thing to what you are after I think.
I use basic4android now, very easy to use programming language if you don't mind learning it.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I wish I had the time to learn a language like the one you mentioned but it's near to impossible for me. Even if I have a little time to spare on a daily basis, there are tons of new medical updates everyday and I prefer to read them, as they may help me, help patients. I will look at the google app inventor but it's a shame that it will be terminated soon
Thanks again for the reply

I think google are making it open source so that others can offer it so it might not die just google will not offer it after a set date.
You could ask a developer to write an app for you, not sure what they would charge though.

[Q] Would like some help making a new app

Hello all,
I am not really any kind of coder or developer myself. However, I am looking for someone who is -- maybe someone new to the game, to help me with an app I'd like to have on my phone (HTC Thunderbolt).
It's basically a time-card app, pretty simple. There are numerous of these out there, but I'd like to have one specifically geared towards my industry. There are already a couple that exist for the iPhone, but none that I can find for Android. Below are examples of what I'm talking about:
http://www.crewtimecard.com/
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wrap-time-time-card-for-film/id335510869?mt=8
I'd like to make a better one, and one for Android. Really, it would be just for my personal use, but I'm sure many others would be interested as well. Perhaps if someone out there is a developer as a hobby, looking for more practice, etc., this might suit that person. I'd love to talk about collaborating on such a project.
Thanks!
Not to be rude, but I'd be surprised if anyone bites on your offer. Developing and testing apps properly takes a significant amount of time and dedication, and the examples you gave indicate that the app you're looking for could be quite complicated. Unless you come across a developer that happens to need the same thing, or that you are willing to pay, you may be SOL.
Of course, this sounds like the perfect opportunity to learn how to program! There are plenty of great websites out there that will walk you through the entire process form scratch. Good Luck!

Not really.
These 2 site can help you from scratch.
http://www.codeacademy.com
www.code.org
Google has their own site to teach people.
http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html
Sounds like you might need to learn several languages to accomplish your goal. Not sure of one particular one to meet your goal.
