Today I tried the Hero, and I must say that it makes the Magic just as you would expect. I think this ROM is that we should concentrate all our efforts in order to make it usable.
i think that yes, it is the best rom ive ever tried, but it is too slowly and crashes frequently. htc apps and widwegts are also incredible!
one quesetion. someone have notice that all roms do not let see youtube videos in high quality. Original youtube app from vodafome let me select high quality, in this case no.. and there are great differences!

I don't have this youtube issue. When I watch at a video, in menu pop up it ask me if I want to see it in normal res.
I'm with v2 Rogers rom.
I think that hero is the way... cool interface and widgets but it needs more machine.

If you have a high speed connection like wifi or hsdpa, youtube plays in high quality.

are the hardware specs on the hero that much more robust than on the Magic? I should look that up I suppose....
Regardless, I would think that HTC would eventually want to supply the Rosie UI to as many devices as possible, as they did with touchflo 3d when it came out.
I reinstalled Hero yesterday evening as I wanted to give it a try.
I used nk02 version cause my sdcard is very slow for handling the Apps. It's the 8GB sdcard that came with the Magic. I learned the last days that it's class 2 and, in order to have the Apps running properly in the sdcard, we need a class 6.
My new sdcard is on the way and i will be able to double check this.
Anyway, after installing the rom i did several optimization things. I just went to the Dream forum and use what the people are doing. Basically this is what i did:
- Hero SpeedUp v2.0 script. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521421
From here I took the dexopt-wrapper and the optimize.sh script in order to create .odex files for every apk.
- Rosie/Launcher Toggle. Idea here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521877
But the procedure I use is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3886560&postcount=23
This means that I disable the Rosie UI and use for normal daily use the standard home screen.
Someone will ask why would I want to have Hero when I disable the Rosie UI. Simple: I can switch back to Rosie whenever I want if I want to play with the new home screen.
But, If I want the phone to be responsive and not that laggy, it's better to disable Rosie. In this way the phone works quite well and I still have all the advantages that the new Hero firmware has to offer me:
- Twitter and facebook integration
- new calendar
- all the new menus in contacts, dialer, etc.
- new camera
etc, etc, etc.
I also read that if I just keep Rosie without any widget, it will still run smooth but i haven't tried it yet.
So overall I'm happy of my decision to go for Hero again (I haven't tried Rogers, I moved from Ion to Hero directly) and I will also support the idea to focus on this firmware.
It's really looking good.
P.S: I will also copy this post in the Hero forum as I think it belongs there too.

This didn't work for me.
When I clicked on home (after clearing defaults) it just went back to the home screen (rosie).

Can you see inside the Application Management menu both apps? Rosie and Home?
If you don't have Home, even if you clear defaults from Rosie, it will go back to Rosie as there would not be any other alternative.
So, can you confirm me that you can see both apps?
P.S: Just reminder: after you push Launcher to the phone, you need to reboot.
Doh! rebooted, works now. Thanks
Anyone have a fix to get the new HTC widgets to install correctly on the new dc rom? when i install them from the market i get an error saying its incompatible or something like that. is there a fix? i searched the 2.06 thread with no luck.
they are already in the rom?? sometimes you have to go into Settings > Manage Apps > HTC Sense > Clear Data for them to show correctly

I think the OP is referring to the downloadable HTC widgets such as battery widget, etc. These will not install from the Market nor do they show up when clicking to download from the widget list to add to home. I too, would like to know a work around to install (not a different widget on the Market) because I really miss the HTC battery widget.

Oh, shoot my bad.
For some reason, the Download new HTC widgets button worked on my v2.0 rom. It showed the downloadable ones and worked on the HS

yeah that's what I was referring to. I want the HTC battery widget back.

I think the widget isn't installing because it isn't an official ROM, but that is just a guess.
Could be part of the problem. However, it did install on the Eris based 2.1 roms which had very different frameworks than the Sprint based 2.1 roms. I believe that is the real problem. The Eris roms were more like the Sprint 1.5 roms framework wise.
Just wondering if anyone's found a fix for this? I miss my battery widget lol
still waiting for this myself. hopefully it will work with the release keys
I tried searching the forums and found nothing...
Like a lot of others, i dont like most of the applications that come bundled on my phone and like to get rid of most of them. I cant seem to figure out what .apk file to remove to get rid of the "Kidzone" application. Any ideas?
If any root-level file explorer works, download Absolute System from the Market. It's about two bucks but it's worth it. You can use it to remove any bloatware from your device.

Not in this case. We do not have S-OFF.
Freezing the apps with titanium backup lasts between reboots, luckily. Won't remove them completely but they will be prevented from running or showing in the app drawer.
Only problem is I'm having trouble finding the package names of a couple bloatware apps, namely kidzone, highlight, friend stream and t-mobile mall. If anyone could find the names of those packages it would be great. I'll look up the names of the apps I did find in a little while and post them for you.

also tried removing the app pack, and it does not remove "kidzone"
Kidzone appears to basically be a locked down version of the home screen that only lets you turn on Youtube, Internet, Bejeweled, and T-Mobile TV from that screen. It requires you to setup a password for the lock screen. It appears to be built into sense. It's not really an application. Mostly a replacement lock screen. There's nothing "kid" about it honestly.

I second that request!
I made a thread in "themes and apps" about cleaning up bloat - still no luck on kidzone though.
I am fiddling around with dumping sense now, that will probably do it. I'll post back here if I can figure out how to make kidzone go away.
Meantime - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16739548#post16739548
okay - sorry to post after myself but I got rid of kidzone.
First, I restored a CWM backup I made right after root/busybox installation.
So, my phone state is fresh S-OFF/Root with SU & busybox installed.
It may be important to note that I did a factory reset to my phone just before S-OFF/Root & had a freshly formatted MicroSD card.
I then installed ADW Launcher from the Market, and hit my "home" key. Selected "Use Default" and chose ADW Launcher.
Now my phone defaults to ADW as it's launcher.
I then installed "Absolute System" from the Market, and used it to remove "HTC Sense"
Closed out Absolute System, then scrolled between all 5 ADW desktop screens, powered down the phone, then powered up again. (*NOTE fastboot = off)
Booted fine, was able to ditch sense without issue, and KIDZONE IS GONE!
As always, make sure to do a fresh system backup before messing with anything like this, but Kidzone is linked to sense, and replacing sense with another launcher will remove it.
HTC Sense was the only app removed from the phone, and I haven't checked everything to make sure it works yet, but no HTC crash report to send, and no force close issues. (yet - to be determined)
I've been itching to ditch sense since I got the phone, and this was my first quick test at it. Works good so far.
Edit to add:
Checked the "personalize" option at the top of the "settings" list. This just brings you back to the main desktop, doesn't throw an error.
I knew this one thing would be messed up somehow after ditching sense, but the fact that it doesn't make a problem and just closes the menu is fine by me.
I'll spend the rest of the day testing out my phone without sense to see how it runs. I'll post back how it went tomorrow.
Edit - 11/01/2011:
When I said "without sense" I meant without the sense launcher. I expanded on and clarified that in another thread (that app thread) but never cleared it up here.
To fully remove sense is one heck of a project, and will take much more then just switching your launcher.
This is great info - but with this last method - can you still use the stock/factory camera app? Is the camera fully functional, it might not be a big deal to some but would be cool to retain full factory camera functionality.
Wow, feels like going back in time -
Yep, stock camera app works fine.
It's tied to sense, and there is no true AOSP ROM out there yet, so pretty much no matter what you do you should keep stock camera functionality.
Actually, keeping the stock camera functionality/app is the main reason why there is no AOSP ROM yet, it's been generally decided that losing that would be...undesirable.
Kidzone is part of Rosie.apk, which is the Sense launcher. You lose it once you switch to another launcher (adw, go, etc...) and uninstall rosie.apk

Yes it is empty, and does not display any new messages. It also said my launcher api was too old.
launcherpro?
It seems that it is, for whatever reason, using an old api and therefore the launcher is not supported by lots of scrolling widgets.

Hmm, that is interesting. I have never had any trouble with any of my other scrolling widgets.
working so far so good
but it marks away contacts as offline contacts
and it would be good if it had some button to clear open contacts, because it still shows open chats
can't dl on my s2 running cm7...

Update!
-honeycomb (and greater) is now supported (change status not working yet; google changed their "api" >_>)
-contacts list should load a bit faster now
I attached the .apks in first post for those who cannot download from market (for whatever strange reasons ).
hi,
the apps works great with golauncherex, but is it possible to write messages directly on homescreen? that would be really a plus for this widget.
Hi Everyone,
My wife owns a HTC Desire HD (non-rooted, standard ROM, etc - much to my disgust!), and on it she is running Ginger Bread (Android 2.3). I notice when she pulls the "curtain" down that her recently opened Apps are stored at the top. This is a very handy feature, as when she closes an App she simply goes back to the curtain and starts from where she left off.
I on the other hand own a HTC Sensation, with Elegancia Sense 4 ROM installed (as per my signature below), and the only icon that I see at the top of my curtain is the settings button. I would really like to see recently used Apps in my curtain, as currently I need to go to the Apps menu, and then click on the App that way, or alternatively find the App on one of my "Desktops" and then click on it there. A simple slide and touch is better than constant tapping in my opinion.
If anybody knows how to add recently used Apps to the curtain whilst using Elegancia can you please let me know how?
Kind Regards,
Davo
Well I don't use elgancia but the reason you don't see that recent apps its because its set that way as default I assume. I don't know if that tom includes 'tweaks' but you can change that feature there

Do you specifically want this exact method of accessing recent apps?
There's a more convenient way too.
Long press the home button.
If you specifically want the apps to appear in the notifications pull down menu, I doubt you can. There probably aren't any tweaks that do it either.
The recent apps was a feature in Sense 3.x , so if it's really that important to you, flash a Sense 3.x ROM

Aye, long press of the home button will do the trick.
You should then be able to swipe the apps that appear to the right to rid of them if you want.
