For those that rooted with Paul's ROM, when you initially boot the phone up, it has no English Australia. I believe when you select English UK, it will automatically map to UK under google and will try to search for GPS satellite around UK. Obviously it failed. What I did was to scroll to Australia and in my situation to Victoria, the GPs locked in straight away.
Hope this help.

Hi donkey. You are (in a way) correct. The MoDaCo original (not custom) ROM, rootedupdate.zip has been reported to fix the GPS issue on Aussie desires. It is not related to the language settings however
Thanks for the info. I am now flash with Pays Rom 1.4 will test its gps tomorrow.

SOLVED - I ended up flashing to the 1.64.08.21 Radio, then Dutty's Latest. Now GPS works. WEIRD!!!!
Hello,
Back story: I'm running Q-Mobile 1.2, all is well, GPS works fine because I used it all the time. Then I had family in town, took some photos using the GPS photo option, didn't work. I filled it away under the curious and just got around to testing.
GPS Test now can't find my device, keeps reading "Searching for GPS Device", HTC GPS Testing tool just stares blankly at me like I have the answers.
Live search GPS doesn't work.
Google Maps GPS doesn't work.
What I've done to try and fix:
I reflashed the 1.27.14.09 radio... didn't change anything.
I reflashed the entire Q-Mobile Rom... didn't change anything.
I tried Dutty's new WM 6.1 Rom... didn't change anything.
I tried Alex's ROM... didn't change anything.
Tried the "new" AT&T Rom from the HTC site... didn't change anything.
I'm back to Q-Mobile, still doesn't work.
There is no reason why the GPS should not be working, the phone hasn't been physically damaged in anyway, everything else works fine.
I'm at my wits end, I need some outside help/guidance. Can ANYONE please help? Everything I've searched for and come up with so far hasn't worked.
As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!
thats funny, because my GPS has been randomly working and not working these past few days....2 days ago it wouldnt pick up a signal at all, yesterday very strong signals, today, dead again......not sure whats wrong...
This is strange.... because a friend just lost his GPS also. He's using a 6.0 based ROM with various radios tested.
He's using a Tilt varient.
Could this be some sort of AT&T issue?
(I run the same ROM as him -I flashed it myself- and am also on AT&T with no problems.... yet)
GPS seems to be location dependent.
But here's my thought : if you want to use WM 6.0 then flash to Radio 1.27.
For WM 6.1 then flash to Radio 1.58.
Don't forget to change the Quick GPS Region in registry & then run it.
Hope that can help.

my region is set to US in the registry.....not sure that its the problem, because it worked perfectly fine w/ these settings before...
Yeah, my GPS as well. At first i worked perfectly. I used Google map and locate me, I show the exact position where I was. Then yesterday and today, my point have been moved further where I'm. And then I tried TOMTOM, and the performance is kinda slowe than before.
I'm using Radio 1.64.08.21, and UDK-7 R2
okay so i just went out to test it again, and ran GPS tool at 4800. I let it go for 2-3 minutes and eventually, it found a fix on about 12 satallites. after that, tom tom locked my location really fast, like a charm.....
give that a try.....if you just flashed, initial gps fix might take some time...
Alright, I'm going to try Dutty's latest again, only this time w/ the 1.64.08.21 radio... I'll see if that matters. I'll post when done.
UPDATE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365058
I installed the ROM on this thread as a test. ROM sucks bizzalls, but GPS Test if finally working! I'm going to flash Dutty's latest overtop, it should keep the radio but put his ROM down. More to follow.

Please post the registry string that changes the demobraphics to the US. Thanks.
Do we have a listing of these location codes as the US is a big place and it might have more than 1 code depending on location.
Can people post what they have in the registry of:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\QuickGPS]
The value of :
"region"="--"
I tried GB in mine (United kingdom) as another user (Dutch had reported using NL in theirs and GB is our equivalent. It definately seemed to lock faster.
I am using Dutty's latest rom and the region was Blank in after the flash, hard reset and setup.
Does the quick gps download different data depending on region or does it download all of them but start the search based on which should be the closest satellites based on the location setting in the registry. I presume once it has gained its locks it remembers for next time. (I think this remembered data is valid for 4 hours).
There are only about 28 satellites in total and up to a maximum of eight to eleven depending on time a(s the satellites are not geostationary) being visible at one time

I used Dutty's WM6.1, ran QuickGPS then got a fix (took very long the first time) ... now my registry says Region=US
I noticed that there is another key that might be of interest:
curRegion = 0 (00000000)
Could this be current Region?
I've changed the region in the registry from "--" to "SE" (Sweden), but the string won't stay put. After a reboot and running QuickGPS, it goes back to "--". I've tried waiting a couple of hours after editing and holding the power button to shut down, but it doesn't help. I made a little MortScript and added it to startup:
Code:
While (1)
WaitFor ("QuickGPS", -1)
If NOT regKeyEqualsString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
RegWriteString ("HKLM", "Software\HTC\QuickGPS\", "region", "SE")
EndIf
Sleep (10000)
EndWhile
This works and keeps the "SE"-setting, but having the script running constantly isn't exactly optimal as it uses processing power (around 4% currently) and thus adding to battery-drain. Anyone have any ideas on a different way of making the script, which is more effective/power-saving? Or is there an even better way to make the registry key stick?
I am having some GPS issues as well but not as bad as GPS not working. Two problems have been bugging me: Getting a slow GPS fix and my location seems offset. I am using CoPilot Live 7 for my navigation software. It shows me a little bit 'off' from my current location. I am using 1.58.26.20 radio. Should I change my radio? Do I have to change the radio first and then reflash Dutty again?

That's interesting, mine says US but "1" for the numeric one.
Hi guys, just flashed my first ROM and everything appears as it should phone wise except for the fact I have no service at all for my network (o2).
I am quite worried, i have already run the connection setup and restarted my device but nothing
When i flashed, i used the Polaris_WWE_0[1].67_Premium_bepe rom and Polaris_Radio_1.58.21.23
Please help quickly!
Have you tried reflashing or a hard reset to see if this solves the problem?
Sorted now!
I reflashed the radio ROM with a new version - still no luck.
Then i noticed a thread about problems with handsets in Russia receiving no signal after a re-flash and i downloaded a Radio that was suggested there.
Now my signal is back to normal!!!
Did the 02 customization run once you flashed the orbit 2, as I have flashed mine a few time and the customization run every time.
If it didnt I have the universal installer for putting the 02 setting back on.
Let me know.
Also have you checked in the Settings / Phone / Network for Network Selection should be on Automatic....

Hi thanks for your reply.
I dont know if you saw my above message but i got everything working ok, it was to do with the radio i installed. Basically it wasn't allowing me to pick up an O2 signal. I could find Orange and Vodafone though. I assume that the particular radio caused a weak signal in the UK and O2 coverage in my area must be quite poor.
When i installed the radio mentioned in the thread about Russian poor recpetion everything was good.
In my case the o2 customization did not run when i reflashed but maybe that was coincidental because i ran it manually and still no good.
I would be interested in having the universal installer to reset back to O2 just incase.
Would you be able to upload for me?
no service on o2
i have the same problem - what is the radio file that is recommended to flash?
Hi all, I've got a UK retail G1 which I'm running JFv1.43 for UK RC9 on.
Since doing this I have lost the ability to connect to my Parrot car kit via bluetooth (not that it worked properly, but at least I could receive calls).
I'm also disappointed at the lack of Latitude. I was going to go back to the original RC9 but wondered about RC33.
Two questions:
1) What would be the service limitations to running RC33 on a UK phone (i.e. data network accessibility etc)
2) Does Latitude work in the UK, or will a UK IP block it?
Sorry if these have been asked elsewhere, but I've searched and browsed but can't find the answers. If there are other threads detailing these queries, by all means just point me to them.
Cheers
For lattitude, try http://latitudelauncher.googlecode.com/files/latitude_launcher.apk (this is apparently on the marketplace but I couldn't find it when I looked).
I've not had any problems with bluetooth on my RC9 (also a parrot). Not that I've used it much.. it's not my primary phone but does pair.
If you have a modified bootloader, it would not effect the overall transfer of data.
Thus, using JF's custom firmware will not (or should not) effect any performance on or limit anything on the phone.
Thanks guys
No problem.
If you have any other issues, feel free to hit any of us up (or just post back here)

It's strange, it would pair before on the stock RC8 although I couldn't send contact to the kit. Now if fails to pair at all.
Latitude worked, thanks for that!
The big problem with using RC33 in the UK would be the myfaves app "calling home".
Hello!
My Galaxy R (Austria, 2.3.6) will show 180° wrong compass information in Google Maps. When GPS is not active the arrow will point to the exact opposite direction the phone is looking. When 3D-Compass mode is activated the buildings shown in front of me will be behind me.
Other Compass Apps (tested "Compass" from catch.com from Market) will work fine.
I've also compared to an ZTE-Blate, the Blade was always correct, Galaxy R always wrong in Google Maps. Compass showed the same info for both phones.
*#0*# -> sensor -> magnetic sensor:
The green line will always show North
I think this is a google maps problem, i wanted to ask for confirmation on other phones before reporting it to Google&Samsung.
Can with an Galaxy R confirm this?
Mine shows it correctly. Where do you live? If you live at the southern hemisphere your compass may be preset for the northern one, since the ROM you use is for Austria.

I don't think thats the case. The magnetic sensor works by actually detecting the magnetic field in the surroundings.
I would suggest OP to update / reinstall Google Maps, its a software problem only with Google Maps and nothing else. As it is working with other apps its working correctly.
Hope it helps.
Hello!
I live in Austria and this problem occured with the original ROM and so i updated via kies, and it is still present. It is an original Drei branded phone with no modifications except root via cwm.
My maps version is 6.2.0 (Settings->Info will show: 6.2.0 (#6020014) gmm-android-samsung with platform android:samsung-GT_I9103-GT_I9103 and i can not uninstall it, since it came within the ROM. I tried to clear Data/cache for maps and tried uninstalling upgrades for Google maps (then its version 6.0.0). NUnfortunately I was not able to solve my problem.
I am pretty sure that the magnetic/geographic poles will not switch at the equator, so no adjustment for this should be necessary.
Also all other compass functions will work correctly, even google sky maps will show north correctly.
@mrsaccess:
Thank you for trying, now i know the problem is not on all phones. I would like to know if it is software dependent. I assume you do not have the Drei Firmware, can you tell me which firmware you have?
If someone with the Drei Firmware reads this can you please test, if this will also affect you? Note: GPS must have no lock, the arrow has to turn if you turn your phone to reproduce this. Try pointing your phone to North and see if the arrow in google maps will also point to North.
I have the original 2.3.4 that came with the device.
The problem has magically disappeared on my phone... Wow....
I also had a small problem with with a website (german wikipeda fir "Gin") which would "crash" the browser everytime I zoomed in, which i could reproduce for 2 days, after these two dayse it worked fine again.
The phone seems to solve all problems by itself...
mine too..... zskk5 hong kong...
Mine too still has Gmaps problem

How did the problem vanish by itself.. Pleas recollect and let me know what could have corrected it. Even my phone shows reverse direction in google maps but all fine with the compass apps
If anybody else aware of solution, please help.
Note: I have already tried, re installing.
I bought my Lenovo S880 in China in August. Brought it back to Europe, rooted it, flashed GAPPS and ICS_locationfix_v1.3 and everything worked fine.
Went back to China in December and at first location services were working fine, google maps, weather forecast app and my hotel finder app all knew where I was. Then all of a sudden location services stopped working again, I think after I used a Chinese SIM in slot 1 for local 3G data.
Returned to Europe, re-flashed location fix and followed instructions as before but can't get location services to work again.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?
(tried posting in thread where I got the original info from but was unable to do this)
