As you might have heard, TweetDeck has released its Twitter app for Android after what seems to be ages of development, at least for me, as I’ve been dying for this. Twidroyd has long been, at least in functionality, best Twitter app for Android, but TweetDeck hopes to change that by bringing the best Twitter app for PC to Android. Interestingly, its not a direct port of their iPhone app, rather, its been built from the ground to up to showcase the changes that TweetDeck hopes to roll out across its other platforms. I’ve gotta say, its looking great, but not quite there yet. Check out the video for a demo of the great functionality as well as the missing functionality. All in all, though, great job TweetDeck.

Naw it's definitely not the best quite yet. It's lacking A LOT feature wise but it's on the right track. It's been the main one I've used since it came out yesterday. Just might replace my Twitter for Android in the end.

TweedDeck desktop is awesome. Can't beat it imo. TweedDeck for Android... another story. As someone said above, they have a long ways to go. ALTHO one think I do like, is the smoothness of the app. Thats all tho... I'm sure over time it will get better, but they have lots of catching up to do.

Well said. Thats exactly how I feel. The app is really smooth and I like that it brings you back where you left off in every column, but they've got a lot of work to do. But with their apps for other platforms, I know they can do it.

I dig it. It's not fully featured, but it is really smooth. I'll keep it to test it out for now, but I'm not getting rid of my primary twitter/fb apps. I'll keep those and reserve judgment on this app until the official release is out.

To all of you that complains about Tweetdeck for Android. It's still beta and not the finished application. I can assure you there is frantic activity over at Tweetdeck support, and I don't doubt that this will be a killer app
I think it kinda sucks at least right now, all the other Twitter apps I've tried are better and actually have features. And it won't stop sending Twitter notifications which I don't want as it's constant and annoying. Oh and it's ugly..haha. I'm sure it will get better though. I like Twicca myself.

Thanks to whoever told me how to turn off notifications. I wasn't getting them then randomly this morning they started coming in. I just use Pure Messenger to read FB/tweets in one column and open Twicca/Facebook from Pure Messenger to post something. I like it because it's a widget. Is Tweetdeck going to put out a widget? I didn't notice one looking through my widgets.
Hey all, Mozilla Fennec Mobile Android Browser is out of pre-alpha stages and now in Alpha and available download!
Article, Details and Download Here:

I agree. Even for an Alpha version it's extremely slow and crash-prone.
Startup times are horrible and it took up so much memory on my Incredible that the homescreen actually got cleared from the RAM and had to reload itself. Some websites wouldn't load and installing extensions was nearly impossible. Pressing the back button wouldn't always update the screen either.
It's one of the prettiest I've seen, though, but that's about all I can give it...

So whats the verdict on this browser? Any good? Bright future and not yet there??
To answer your question its terrible not nearly ready yet
for me it took up over 60mb of memory, which is like half my usual available
Fennec is pretty bad, as in really really bad. Just as Firefox was when it first hit the bitstream. Now, Firefox is a great browser with great features and an even better price.
Instead of giving the Mozilla folks the finger, I suggest we applaud them for even getting this far. Yes, I yanked Fennec off my phone about 30 seconds after I was finally able to install it because the room started to stink, but I'll try it again when it has been made a little better.
Even our esteemed ROM cooks released some doozies when they first started. Today's ROMs run smooth with cool features and very few FCs anymore. So let's cut the Mozilla crew some slack, acknowledge their effort, and in another few months, we'll be amazed at the capabilities of Fennec (although by then it will be named Firefox).

Agreed, I usually give apps that don't wow me a couple hours of lifespan before I remove them.
This one got the ban hammer faster than anything.
Some things I noted:
They're doing nightly builds, so check in periodically to get the latest.
It isn't as feature-rich (or complete) as Dolphin HD.
The killer feature for me is Mozilla Sync - and it works. All my desktop Firefox bookmarks came in fine. If you're a Firefox user, Fennec is something to keep tabs on.
But it's not the release version. They're painfully slow in getting this project going, and I'm afraid by the time they have something ready for prime time, the mobile browser market will have already split between Dolphin or Opera.
[Edit: And for the Incredible, ensure you're getting the ARMv7 version.]
I would suggest downloading and installing the Nightly build found here:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-central-android-r7/
Loaded up only using 17 mb of memory, synce went fine, Been useing it for a day or so without any issue... Never goes above 28mb of mem usage on inc. Im using
the 8/29/10 nightly build.
Been using this browser for a couple days now (Just to provide some feedback to Mozilla since any feedback during the alpha stage is awesome for devs). While I agree that it is slow and glitchy, for an alpha build it's actually pretty impressive. Firefox Sync is amazing and I like the idea behind the scroll-to menus. For those of you freaking out about how terrible it is, download it again, run it for a little bit, coalesce your thoughts into a reasonable critique then submit it to Mozilla to help them better this project.
Remember, nothing will put iPhone users in their place like "Oh yeah? Firefox. Suck it."
Had Xscope lite on my Nexus as the default browser. The reason I loved it was because of the look, it was "lite" unlike the other browsers like Opera (which do run faster) I liked xscope because the top bar was minimal and scrollable.
With this new version they COMPLETELY changed it! Now it has a watermark that reads "trial version" totally TACKY! And two navigation bars!!! How can they make such a drastic change?!
Needless to say uninstalled. Now going to try to find an apk for the older version.
SUCKS BALLS!
I was very surprise too this morning when i install this new update going back to previous one too.
Please let me know if you find the previous version.

Aye, dolphin did the same thing.
The original one had a very simplistic tab bar, but now with the HD version you need to swipe all the way to the corner of the screen to call upon a stupid popup tab bar.
I need to find how to save old apks, anyone know which folder they're stored in?

About the dev charging too much?...its three dollars? You could find that on the ground in one day. Damn...I mean damn do we (Android users) need to support our devs...look, I have to say this on a dev forum
Full version is worth the price to many, but in a few weeks all of the old features that are missing at this moment will be replaced. Wait and see...this browser is going to be so complete. It's already number one in my book.
yeah. Xscope 5 is the best browser available. Its a bit slow and laggy on Vibrant, but its still very good. V6 changed everything, i downgraded immediately to V5 and emailed developer to maybe try to change his mind and go back to developing V5 (some extra features, more optimization, but keep the GUI)

Improvements to v6 will be coming from the dev. On my phone its running faster then the older version...by far! Instant back and forward, faster page loads, ..better everywhere. Dev said he will be adding in more features that were left out but it does take time. He needs to make sure he does it right, or there would be bugs.

Yeah it definitely loads pages faster, but accessing tabs is a little more of a pain in the ass. You can't have the tab bar open by itself, the stupid control bar always has to be open at the same time.

Personally, I hope he keeps doing what he's doing.
Sure there are things that aren't in the new one that were in the old one (such as a custom user agent per favourite), but the dev. has already said the additional features are coming.
There may be some ppl who don't like the new look, but others do, and it seems a lot faster than the old one. It's a total re-write, so I'm sure he's coded it much better having learned some lessons.
But hey, I only supported the guy 6 months ago when I bought it, so I'm sure my opinion doesn't count as much as those who are freeloading the unpaid trial version...
To avoid three presses to get to bookmarks, you can make bookmarks your home page, and start an extra tab leaving the bookmarks tab available. You can swipe between tabs to get to your bookmarks tab.

For those who couldn't able to download Mozilla firefox's latest beta!
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/
Just go here through your web/mobile browser and find the version you want to test! and for X10 download the armv7 version or the one with the suffix r7!
the beta 4 is pretty solid and stable, but I am testing the pre beta 5 version
And for those who says it is available in the market! It isn't for everyone...
If you are running on stock SE 2.1, chances are lesser...
Note: I am not responsible if you smoke your mobile as all these versions are still in beta/pre-alpha!
Firefox in Android, great.
One question: how light is this version? Latest Firefox versions for Windows/Linux/Mac OS X are heavy and eat a lot of RAM. Hope this changes in Android.
beta 4 is still huge and takes ages to start up. I cannot remember but about 10mb for the app? It lags when you open complicated webpages.
FF lags like hell for me. I tried beta 4 for a few days. It's a great browser, but they need to lighten the load a little.....It's just too tasking for its own good! I shouldn't have to kill all my other tasks just to get webpages to load. And flash is very spotty still

Skyfire is good, but Dolphin is my option!
Latest update (2.25.2011) seems much better, but I still had to take it off my phone. 14mb is too much without App2SD and everything else is sluggish since (on my phone) there's not much space left internally. I liked the Sync thing, it showed exactly what was the last pages on my desktop, but I use Chrome mostly and that syncs across computers too.
Reformatting the text still doesn't seem to work correctly.
Some jpgs were rendered poorly
confused on single/double tap to zoom, ran through preset sizes and returned to original. I suppose it works better if you have dual touch.
lag on touch, so you may "Next" twice
stable beta5 out!!
Visit this link from your mobile web:

FF on the desktop is pathetic, makes me wonder why they even bother with an Android version. 14-18mb for a browser? Really? I'm confident they've included a dishwasher+coffee maker and a sauna in there.
What can it do better than Miren Browser which can do all of the above in just a little over 2mb, and with great aplomb!
Are you kidding??? FF on desktop is the ****!!! There's literally nothing better for desktop pc that FF4 beta....I dunno what you're smokin', but where I come from, we don't touch any other browser. lol
^^ haha tell me about it
There was a time when I used to be a firefox user too, but the 3.xx versions started sucking ass. I then moved to the 4.xx beta and it's a lot better than before. The sluggishness and insanely high resource usage remains though :/ and they still haven't fixed it despite ELEVEN betas and being over a year in active development. Last time I checked there's one more beta due soon, may be more after that, too

If firefox would just load pages faster I'd use it exclusively...I love the fact that they have sync working finally!! I've been dying to try it, but I can't get any web pages to load at all, even on my home wifi network with 15MB cable internet lol.....and all my background apps are killed, too

Bingo. The new Firefox has flash and is much faster than Chrome (at least on the HOX).
I was having that battery drain issue too. so i uninstalled a few weeks ago.
now that it's out of beta i installed it again with a fresh charge and it doesn't seem to be draining battery any more
screw it. im just gonna use it so i can be all like "yo gingerbread friends! you cant use this!!"
I want to wait and see the verdict on battery life. It was awful this past week, ten minutes of chrome would knock out 30% of the battery. I'll give ICS+ a look though.
Any thoughts regarding other browsers like dolphin, opera, etc?

Why is bookmark management so terrible in Chrome browser on Android? You can't import, export, or even sort. I realize you can sync with Chrome on your PC, but I don't want to do this, because I have hundreds of bookmarks there, and definitely don't want them all on my phone.

I love Dolphin. It's tough to put my finger on exactly why but it seems to be intutive with what I want to do and it tabs and untabs well when executed from other programs and stuff.
Unexplained battery drain still seems to be there. That's a shame, as I really love the Omnibox syncing. Sigh.
Google should be able to do better than this.

Really? How significant? I haven't really noticed any yet.
Took this screen shot earlier today. Keep in mind that it shows a 19% battery drain even though I hadn't opened the app since taking the phone off the charger. How is that even a thing?
It's a shame because I really want to use Chrome for the syncing, especially after learning that it's coming to the iPad soon.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I'm going to re-install it and see if I can figure out what exactly might be triggering the battery drain. My guess is that something in the background sync gets "stuck", so the app is constantly trying to sync in the background, but it could just as easily be something else.

In the beta you could. The import bookmarks from stock browser option is gone from Chrome's settings in the full version.
I use Chrome as my default browser and have for months. I for one love it. On the One X, it performs well and, as others have said, the Omnibox sync is very handy.
ICS Browser+ isn't bad but I vehemently oppose "pro" version monetization strategies as I am an open-source advocate.
I'll probably stick with Dolphin HD for now, it's been doing well for me recently and I'm wary of the battery problems people are having with Chrome.
A lot of people have been mentioning ICS+ recently, but I haven't given it a run yet. How does it compare to Dolphin for those who have used both?
