Yeah I got a text from my iPhone friend bragging about it but I told him to get 2.1 then brag.
It would be cool to have iPhone on G1 but I don't see that coming at all.
English plz?

Or to get that running as fast as it is on the G1. Sad that it runs slower...

It's amusing, but...
This isn't Development. It would be more fitting in the General section. Sorry to be a buzz-kill, but this kind of stuff usually gets people flamed.
(for the record, iPhone can suck it.)

I could see the iPhone getting faster on Android once more devs look at it and piece it together. It has to be possible to port iPhone to Android to bad I have no development skills or I would give it a go.

Yeah I was going to flame him originally but so many people post in the wrong section I just give up and let a mod take care of it >.<
I second the Suck it to iPhone. It would be just something to have to make iPhone fan boys stfu.

If you believe something is in the wrong section, is it not easier to just ignore the post? Or must you, inform people they're posting in the "wrong" section? What's the big deal. Read what's written, if it holds no interest for you, keep it movin. If you find it interesting, and you "believe" it's in the wrong section, keep it movin. What's hard about that? Ur the type to report **** is in the wrong sections as you come across stuff aren't you? People like you are Computer Commandos. Leave the Moddin 2 da MODS.
Thanks. Take Care.

Im sorry but android is far better then iphone os and this is coming from a person that paid about $4000 in mac stuff

Cydia: We don't need another Market when ours doesn't reject things.
Battery- Really? Have you EVER used a Nexus?
Memory- That is, until you fill it up
Music Player- No doubt, Android is getting better ones but the iPhone's is still top notch
Gaming- That's what happens when you're a year ahead of the competition, but yes, I feel it has better games (Even if I don't play any)
Batter Keyboard- This is subjective, the ONLY thing I feel it has Android beaten in is responsiveness (And this is due to the touchscreen, not the actual keyboard)

If not cydia rock millions of free apps once hacked u can't fill up the memory my wife a 16 gig and hsnt filled up half her memory with all the movies music and apps the keyboard is more responsive millions of themes everything an android can do so can iphone I wish there a way to flash roms on an iphone

I don't see why having the phone hacked or not gives more memory, it was 16gb before and after. Well, when someone has 1000's of songs, the 16gb fills up rather quickly, so just because she has over half left doesn't mean everyone does.
You tend to have more things when you are tending to a larger user base, so having millions of themes is nice, but you're only ever going to use one at a time.
I still don't see why cydia and rock are being brought into this, they're a market for things that were/will be rejected from the App store the Android Market does NOT suffer from this (Except in things like pornography or malicious/illegal items).

All I know is that this is good news for many and I hope development continues, I like the Iphone OS very much including android and winmo 7.

the day i get an iphone is the day it multitasks, has real keyboard, lets me watch porn when my girl is being stingy and selfish with her vagina, on top of it all... run an android os. sooo in the words of my good man :"iphone can suck iiiiiiiit"

If you want a phone that can play music, videos, and games, I'll grant than an iPhone is your best bet.
If you want a phone with a large high-res screen, hardware keyboard, expandable storage, TRUE multi-tasking, as well as an impressive bag of tricks (tethering, WiFiRouter, etc.) that can be had without voiding your warrantee, the iPhone would certainly not fit the bill.
Just saying that there are plenty of things an iPhone cannot do, even with jailbreaking. The day some mad dev manages to port iPhone OS to an HTC keyboard phone, I will gladly eat my words. Until then, enjoy your iPhone for what it is, a Portable Media Player. The rest of us will keep happily haxing away on our Mini Computers.

what does the g1 have that the iphone doesnt?

I constantly but heads with iphone supporters...... they swear the iphone is better than the g1 ascenine right? What other standout features does the g1 have/support that the iphone does not? Or what does it do better than the iphone? Because I watched countless videos on youtube about the g1 months before I pre order and I know the phone very well. I'm just now understanding binary, thought it was hard, but everything is diffivult when you don't understand it lol, anyway... what other aces does the g1 have up its sleeve? Now with flash coming to the iphone I'm pissing my pants...
well i'm sure that others can answer this in great detail, but for my reasons:
custom themes (personalize the damn thing =])
full control over your phone(with root of course)
WiFi tether (see the iphone do that!)
and a better community here at xda than any iphone fanboy site can create
those are my big ones =]
can the iphone copy and paste??
Is this even the forum for this discussion? In all honesty, why does it matter? If you own a G1 use it, it's a da%! phone. If you have the iphone, read my last sentence.
Fanboys are fanboys no matter what side of the argument. Wait until electronics DON'T work, then see where you all stand.
"Why is the MossyRock better than the jagged rock?" A rock is a rock, a phone SHOULD be a phone.
XDA FTW!!!!!!!!
Does the iphone have 3.2 MP camera, Bluetooth, Tons of free market apps, Trackball, Qwerty keyboard, 3 desktops, copy/cut/paste feature, customizable theme, Can it run Debian,.....
* Digital Compass
These are the plus points of having G1 than that F**king iPhone

not to go against the g1, but the iphone does have bluetooth, tons of free market apps, has more then 3 desktops, customizable themes and a digital compass.
The iPhone comes with plenty of great stuff, like...
- The requirement to have the OS guess what you want to type, since there's no keyboard
- The inability to send picture messages
- DRM out the wazoo
- A completely closed operating system
- A company that's willing to brick phones to protect their DRM
You can have all this and more, for the privilege of paying a higher monthly fee and the inability to get insurance for the phone.
But it is MUCH shinier. If you're into shiny, you're all set!
I think they are both fine phones, and do a good job at what they were designed to do. That said, I prefer and therefore own a G1. I actually owned a Wing before, and one of the primary reasons I bought the G1 was the XDA community. Coming here was the best thing that ever could have happened to my Wing, and I just knew that the great contributors to this community would have awesome stuff in store for the G1. iPhone couldn't provide me with the 'screwing with my phone' endless hours of enjoyment that I get from the combination of my G1 and these forums.
And I think someone else had it right when they suggested this isn't the correct forum for this thread... Maybe it'll get moved.
Honestly, if you jailbreak the iPhone, it has almost everything the G1 has and a bit more except for the Open Source base and more open (but less full content-wise) market.

FYI, jailbroken iPhone has all these.
Hardware wise, physical keyboard and digital compass.
Software wise, app multitasking.

The iphone has Debian. The same guy who put it on the G1 (Saurik) first put it on the iPhone. http://www.saurik.com/id/1
Also hardware wise:
A user removable and upgradable battery.
SDHC card slot
The iPhone still doesn't allow easy background execution of third party programs. There's rumor that it may come with firmware 3.0 but it won't be available for a while.
I use both the iPhone and a rooted G1 and I have to say there are tons more useful apps available for the iPhone right now. Although we need to give Android more time for more cool apps to become available on Market.
KS
The Iphone right now has way more great apps on it then it does useless ones b/c of the screening while the g1 has a lot of useless apps with a small percentage of great apps on it. In the future the g1 will have alot of great apps that we want on it wile the iphone users will have to resort to jailbreaking theirs to get the same kind of great apps.
The Iphone has better multi-touch then the g1 is cappable of right now and its thinner.
The G1 has the ability to possibly go up to 32gb when the microsd cards come out unlike the Iphone and it has that all important trackball or when ur hands r cold and the keyboard for when u want to make long posts on xda without having to constantly double check to see if u typed everything right.
Can iphone send MMS? Thats most important think for many people. And ofcorse hardware keyboard

thats exactly what i was going to say,
a jailbroken iphone does "what apple does not want it to do out of the box"
the only diff is.... its been out for a while, and it lacks a hardware keyboard...
about the apps.... there is a "hacked" market app... a friend has a jailbroken iphone 2g and he basically gets any app, pay or free off that "illegal market"
i like hte G1 better... cause its what i like... but really a jailbroken iphone can copy paste and do anything a g1 can.

I think you've missed the point. This is NOT the correct forum for this discussion as this particular forum is about developing for Android. So what exactly does this have to do with developing for Android?
There is another thread for discussing the G1 and maybe this topic would have been more useful in there.
Also kindly don't resort to calling people names, it makes you look immature and a bit foolish to be honest and the mods on this forum don't take kindly to it.

Leaving Android... Any thought what logical choice is?

Hey Guys im done with Android, i found it very disapointing. The applications and devs just arent there. And if they are some games etc apps are meant for a specific resolution...ie: gameloft games!
Im on verizon and left ATT because of to many dropped calls. But I loved the Iphone...do i wait for iphone on verizon or go windows mobile phone 7.
Android was awesome for what it was... but there was nothing of value in the market. Atleast for me.
If there was no apps in the Android market for you then you will be really disappointed in the WP7 market. It sounds to me like you need to wait for the Verizon iPhone.
I was thinking the same thing blazingwolf.... but i wanted something different. But i guess different isnt always best for some people.
PLus I know wp7 is coming in january for verizon, but if i wait for iphone God knows when its coming to verizon.
I guess im stuck in a waiting game. Thanks!!!!
go with the iPhone, it'll satisfy you more than anything else.
I currently have an N900 running Android, Maemo and Meego. I also have an iPod Touch 4th Gen, and to be honest I use my iPod Touch more than anything else. All the apps/games i play on the go are all on my iPod Touch, i barely use my N900 other than txt or make phone calls.
I had a HTC Touch PRO and wasted so much time with installing custom ROMS and all these other stuff (I was using Energy ROM and always up to date until a few months ago where I sold my Touch Pro) and to be honest, it's just not as fun as owning an iDevice. That's my personal opinion and preference anyway.
I'm not an Apple fanboy either, I will never go for the iPhone coz it's way to expensive and I only go for phones with a qwerty keyboard. But my point is, judging from what you're looking for I say the iPhone is definitely the best choice.
Windows Phone 7 seems promising and I've been following and keep up to date with it since it was announced, I know all about the latest phones running Windows Phone 7. But I don't think it'll do well. Ur better off with the iPhone since u can just get everything straight from the go, not to mention you can jailbreak it (which is ridiculously easy btw) and install even more tweaks and stuff on it, and "FREE" apps and games (if you know what i'm talking about *wink*).
For Android, it's the same *wink* *wink* but the contents aren't as fresh and popular as what the AppStore and the jailbreaking scene or Cydia offers. Trust me, u'll have TONS of fun with so many apps/games for the iPhone. I have like 30GB+ worth lol.
But at least u have an Android phone. I'm sick of my N900 already and wanna get a Desire Z....
Yeah guys thanks for the input, im gonna wait for the iphone. Its my best bet. Thanks again for the opinions!!!
What i learned is a OS is only as good as the applications!!

well that's the thing, iOS itself wouldn't be good if it weren't for the APP Store and 300,000+ developers backing it up. Let alone the jailbreaking scene, there're tons of *special forums* *wink* if you know what i'm talking about. There're literally hundreds of repos out there, u can find anything u want so easily.
I think one of the strong points about the iDevices is that they all use the same firmware. There're no custom firmwares or anything so everyone focus their development and support etc on the same thing. Not like Windows Mobile or Android where we have tons of stuff everywhere for different devices, and then there're sub-sections for custom firmwares specific for those devices and so on........I'm not saying that's bad but to newcomers that just started with all this, it's a bit of a cluster-fuk and confusing to find what you need.
I have used many OS platforms and almost all the top brands out there, and I can definitely tell u that iOS is the most straightforward and simplest to use from experience.
well dude wherever you go be sure to send a postcard about how much you miss is back here rofl

Android or iOS? Which do you prefer?

Im just curious how many of you out there would recommend an iPhone over an Android phone or an Android over an iPhone. After being an iOS user since 09 and recently switching to Android, I would actually say that Android is my favorite. Just because of all the customization options I have and all the things I can do that I could of never done with an iPhone (even when jailbroken). Now I'd like to hear your opinion.

agreed with android ftw..
i do enjoy reponsiveness of ios and polished look. it just looks "nice"
but android ftmfw..
my friend had an iphone 4 and we jailbroke it and he was showing all the cool things you can do with jailbroken phones..
i was like wait.... what? my phone could do this before it was even rooted.
makes me sad that ios has sooo many features just "missing" that phones should have. or be able to do. i guess thats why its not open sources... =\
Actually I like iOS 'cause it's so stable and really really easy , thus leaving it for all ages to use. But it's really limited and therefore you jailbreak.
Android on the other hand is a very good OS too! It's very very versatile and you can custom it like you want. The only thing with Android is that it's kind of messy.
So to conclude iOS is an OS that you'll find attractive in first look and some months to come. Android is an OS that grows on you and you'll love it in the long-run.
Has anyone seen iOS5? Apple obviously stole almost every new feature from the jailbreak community then they stole notifications from Android. They need to come up with their own ideas.

They do that quite often! Same happend with iOS 4 with the wallpaper and multi tasking
I suspect you're going to get android as the majority answer here.
I'm over the ios>android or android> ios. They're different beasts with great qualities all around. I think ios is a simpler os in that really anyone can use it. At the same time, android's strength comes in its flexibility and customization. This doesn't suite everyone because really the majority of people just want an easy button. They can find that in android, they just don't have the patience to look.

I wouldn't neccesarily say that Apple stole multitasking from another OS/Device because its different. I mean, come on, its fake. I wouldn't say Apple stole the homescreen wallpapers either. Its an image that doesn't move and it isn't live. Basically, it makes it look a little better. No biggy.

I would really like Ios, it's not a bad OS. Multitask, runs pretty decent, huge app store, but there are a couple reasons why I'm not on ios.
Flash, I use flash on my phone all the time. Keeps me entertained.
Screen size, 3.5" is too small for me.
Carrier, I'm on Sprint dammit.

I use an iPhone for the reliability of it. And because currently it's the only phone I have with FFC. I also use an Android phone because of the enjoyment of it and apps. I feel my Inspire is smoother and nicer than my iPhone, but not as reliable. The screen isn't nearly as good as the iPhone 4's, either.
I also use a WP7 device and feel WP7 will overtake bother other formats eventually. It's that good.
But right now I don't leave the house without my iPhone. I feel secure in the knowledge I can get ahold of someone shuld the need arise. My Inspire almost got my family and I lost once due to a malfunctioning compass and non-functioning nav.

Almost exact sentiment, except in reverse. My trusty Eris does all my heavy lifting for work-related tasks while my iPhone is my gps/playtoy. Haven't gotten my hands on a windows phone yet but they certainly are sounding more and more attractive these days!

Thats a nice OS but a WP7 phone at work somehow got a virus and it wouldbt let the phone do anything and all it did when you turned it in was show a big smiley face with the bird finger. XD
So yeah unlike allot here i won't go FU on iOS.
Here is my subjective list of pro & contra for both systems.
Mind you i have used both.
iOSPLUS:
Stable
For it's money a well running piece of software built on that specific hardware
Fast
Simple to use
Design = top notch
Good service and reliable
Contra:
Hard to modify the feel of the OS
Forced to stay with all apple software (unless jailbroken) to downlaod upload music,etc..
Easy to jailbrake but still a challenge
AndroidPLUS:
Easy to use
Smooth and stable
Easy to modify and root
Customizable to a great extend
Perfectly combined with all Google products
Good service and help from google with personal calls explaining things
Contra:
Default FM can hang once in a while
Without root no way to do much or change much
Easier battery drain (personal opinion)
No updates for all the phone due to builds and limitations ( this is because there are so many companies producing Androids but all with different specs)
WP7Well really don't have much usage experience i did boot the emulator to check it out. Can't say it's ugly but doesn't look appealing either.
I believe that the OS probably is decent but it doesn't beg me to try it out
I think the WP7 is a good phone matching all other MS products. Like Xbox to phone connections and with Win8 it will be easy to look things up on your PC and share it with your phone if you godda go real quick. Win8 get's the same WP7 overlay.
All in all no real user experience so won't brake it down.
I believe it's a small correct list.
I can't say i hate either one of them but currently running android. Feels a Little slower then iOS but my biggest plus is all my Google Docs,Searches,G+,Mail,Pic are easy to acces with simple clicks from your phone.
Who the best is?
Think both are worth as much but if you like to mess around with your phone i would advise the android OS. Also you are more free to choose a phone to your liking then being forced a same look like the guy next to you in the train has.

IDK but iOS is really integrated with his hardware, the Iphone are not so status of the art tech phone, there are better one, but it run like butter, Android is not so integrated due the fact you can install it on multiple phone, with different features
but for sure I'll never get one
Very simple, it's clouse source
But, ios can run on htc g2 . lol . I thinks it's ilauncher and lock screen replace
If any other phone were to run iOS it would be the HD2... but anywho i doubt you would see an iOS port. Apple would be on it like angry birds to pigs. Always trying to defeat them but there just seems to be more out there
Even better, you should install android on an iPhone. To me that proves which is superior. Open source software will always be morally superior, at the very least

eeeewww!
it's heretic!
burn it now!
as far as i believe, ios is closed source when android is open sourced linux based which makes android to be ported but ios can't...
You can tell you're new here....

I think you should get an iPhone, but that's just a suggestion.
I can't believe I'm recommending this thread to anyone, but here goes...
The following thread is from a guy that wanted to get his Android phone looking and acting as much like an iPhone as possible. He calls it "an authentic taste", but it is not made by Apple - it's just skin. It's still Android underneath and that's not gonna change.
Anyway, have a look at the suggestions (throughout the thread - not just the 1st post) and see if it helps you.

Better yet, get MIUI. It has a very similar look and feel to iOS, but it has a lot more options and functionality. It's also a doddle to completely retheme with just a couple of clicks, so you can get a totally fresh interface as often as you like.

If only, some androids have great hardware but the software side is sad.
if you want ios get an iphone.
if you want android get an android phone.
if you like both install miui on your android device.
There is no way of installing ios on anything other than a device that was meant to run it in the first place.

LOL very interesting statement, but it's becoming reality
there's an insanely huge horde of people following MIUI for no good reason IMO (reminds you of Apple? anyone )
I apologize, I'm a phone gamer and android is none too fulfilling in that sense. That paired with ill-optimized software and I don't see the benefit. WP7 is lesser on gaming as well, but I'm a bit of an achievement whore.
Jesus, is this forum really only filled with uneducated, over-opinionated, and unhelpful people?
To answer the OP's question; yes and no. It won't be able to run natively, due to the fact that it's closed source. Though, that's never stopped people before. One could write an ARM-based iDevice emulator and it would theoretically boot.
The trials and tribulations of the emulator would be difficult, but here's what would have to be implemented (off the top of my head, of course):
1. CPU (shouldn't be extremely difficult because the host (phone) is ARM-based)
2. Sound
3. Memory (not the worst, especially because an iPhone only has 512 MB RAM)
4. Graphics/Display/Input (shrug)
5. Implement measures to counter device-checks when booting
6. Flash storage (easy)
7. Anything else that I can't think of atm.
So yes, it would be a huge undertaking, but theoretically, it could run in an emulated environment with bad-mild performance. Don't ever expect iOS-like butter, though. The overhead cost of Android is extremely large (my 1 gig RAM usually has 600 MB free to use) and the phones have near identical specs, which makes it difficult for perfect performance due to limited memory/cpu.
I hope this is better than "OMG HAHA I <3 ANDrOID SO MUCH! BOOo APPL AND TEH iPhonE SUX!!!"
EDIT: Also, it is technically possible to create an iOS compatibility layer (like wine), so you could just launch iOS apps. But that's something I know nothing about and would probably be very difficult. You would have to subvert the need for the kernel (it's open source, so who knows if that helps?) and then rewrite all of the frameworks that iOS uses to work on Android. It's a large undertaking, but it would be interesting, none-the-less.

Hey thanks for that but his question was answered on the first page. But obviously you felt the need to try and showcase your knowldedge. Good for you. The answer is no.

The difference between an opinion and a fact is that an opinion varies on a person to person basis. If there had been an iOS port on android, I'd have kept my streak for the ability to play those games on such a screen alone. But obviously you felt the need to try and showcase your blind fanboyism. Good for you. The answer differentiates on a person to person basis.

No, actually it is not opinion. Are you kidding me? IOS is closed source. You wouldn't be able to build even the simple frameworks for it without the source code. What kind of fool calls answering a question like that blind fanboyism? I didn't say.."no apple sucks". I said it wasn't possible. Please show me where the "blind fanboyism" comes in. I truly feel sorry for you.

[Q] iOS Android?

Yes it is similiar to iphone .. is smooth, elegant, funny and beatiful but we have an android phone and not an apple phone
I've bought a android phone, not because I could not afford an IPhone...
I consider the IPhone a sub-quality product (by my standards).
I would be counter-sense to put something that resembles something sub-par, to my android system.

I don't think of the iphone as sub-quality. I just hate the whole mac software/hardware stack.
I personally didn't like joyos when I tried it on my epic, however I do kind of like iOS.

Although no one here is willing to say it, many people buy androids as they cannot afford an iPhone.
I guess this is an alternative for them, but most wouldn't know how to do it in the first place.
I for one prefer Android after using a relatives iPhone for a few days, just didn't get along with it. (Keyboard started to stick for some reason.)
99/100 people on these android forums would say that Android is better, that's all I'm saying, you're preaching to the converted here pal
the ui seems to be smoother than ics and that lured me to use it any speedy rom to suggest?
Many people here are not to poor to buy a iPhone.
First of all a lot of people buy the nexus phones outright.
Second of all any new higher end Android device launches at the same or higher price point then the iPhone.
Yes there are budget/cheaper phones. That is a good thing. Some people just don't want a dumphone but also don't want the latest and greatest.
That entire to poor for a iPhone is nothing butt stupid BS that iPhone fanboy children say.
Also most of the world ends up buying their devices outright period. Don't matter if its iPhone android blackberry or a dumb phone.

try google word "Gooapple" ... you will be surprised ...
Heres the thing.
Iphone.. you see.. that peice of **** phone...no offence... is for idiots.. no offence.. who dont know anything at all about technology in phones.. Its just a marketing trend in our decade right now. Its just a fashion trend which everyone thinks its cool. Everything in iphone is locked... you cant do jack **** with it even if its jailbroken. Battery only lasts 1 day on standby...piece of crap.
My opinion but im sure alot of people with android phones agree
i had problems with wifi on joyos rom so i flashed back to nexus mv
Dude iOs Sucks... why would I want to make my phone look just like any other phone out there when I have millions of ways to personalize it with Android.

Guys any good rom to suggest?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA
All of them.
They are all good. The best one is the one that meets your needs.
I don't like iOS because you can't do **** on it... doesn't mean the UI of iOS is bad, so why bash on a ROM meant to look similar to the UI of iOS with the upsides of an android device? so how all this iphone bashing came into play when the OP was asking about a ROM makes no sense...
iOS UI is not bad... just that android interface is too good to beat them, personally i was asking about this rom concerning about the speed cuz this rom seems to be real quick like no lag at all. ICS for the nexus s is awesome but every single time i try to open my dialer i have to wait about 30 secs and this annoys me
