It's real, Apple demanded it back. Did you spot the little Android Robot in the video?

Not again please!!
Are we an iphone forum?

Nowhere in the rules does it say that people can't post about non-HTC phones. So quit being so frigging rude. This thread has at least got some merit unlike most of the crap that gets posted here every day.

The only thing that interests me about this new iPhone is the screen resolution. If it truly is 960×640 as has been rumored, Apple will have a serious advantage compared to other smartphones for awhile.
Last I checked the max res for WinMo and WP7 is 800x480, so even if HTC wanted to spring for a denser screen, it would not be usable. Maybe Android could pick up the slack.
To me, aside from having a hardware keyboard, high screen resolution is the number one priority.

agree. that is the reason i never interested in iphone cus of it' low ass resolution!
if this new iphone got high resolution, i mostly give her a try!

960x640 is almost too large a resolution for such a small screen. I'd much rather have 800x480 and 4"< of screenspace.

Just because a screen is high res does not mean everything has to be small. Really, screens have stagnated at low DPI's for far too long, cellphones seem to be one of the only devices that are seeing higher dentistry displays. While most monitors are still produced at 72 or 96 or whatever DPI, printed text on paper is well past 1,000.
Ever notice how big the screenshots of 800x480 cellphone screens appear on a desktop monitor?
If we ever want to use our little gizmo's as truly comfortable ebook readers, among other things, having a high DPI would be a big help.

I get that, it's just that you won't see the benefit of having such a high resolution on such a small screen. I never could read a webpage on my Touch HD without zooming in a little, but with my HD2 I have no such problem. Think Apple really should have increased the size of the display to 4".

I'm with you on this point. I really like to see an iPhone with larger screen. However, I also think that resolution itself will bring about lots of benefits, in viewing pictures, in reading websites even without zooming in. It is nevertheless still better to increase the screen size a bit more.

Apple will do that when it becomes very profitable. Perhaps when Apple's market expands and when it's being sold to other U.S. carriers.

Yes, I may skip the iphone 4G for a mini ipad if it ever comes along ~ 5 inches.
3.7 " - 4" would be a sweet spot for the iphone screen size.

I'm really tempted by the 4.3 inch screen size of HTC Supersonic, but then I see many ex-HD2 owners complaining on this forum that 4.3 inch is too big for one hand use. I don't have very big hand, unfortunately. So, I'm a little swayed by the 4.3 inch being too big idea. Perhaps 3.7 to 4 inch is the real sweetspot for phones?

I've got an HD2 and it's fine for one hand use. I'd still recommend going with Dell's Thunder instead due to HTC's latest phones all having some minor hardware issues.

You don't find it hard to alternate between reaching the top and bottom of the screen with your thumb without feeling awkward?
By hardware issue, you mean things like strange behaving screen, pink videos/pictures that requires software color correction? Or some other things?
Thunder looks interesting.

Well the nexus one has 3G network issues(as does the HD2 to some extent), the HD2 had the pink issue and HTC still haven't addressed the sms issue.

Google has already announced that they will not fix the 3G problem, as this appears to be a hardware fault that they can't fix with software upgrade.
I wonder if the Desire have exactly the same issue?

None have reported having any issues with it yet, so maybe HTC corrected the error in their own device.
Really not sure if I should stick with HTC in the future since the support is generally lacking due to them having too many devices.

Need a reason to keep HD2.

So I am brand new to the whole smart phone market. My old phone took a poo and decided to not work so I figured it was a great time to upgrade and join the new era of smart phones.
I knew nothing about smart phones but knew Ihad to go with t-mobile so I could be undercontract with my gf.
HD2 was all over the the tv/internet so I thought it was the new badass phone so I figured I would just got for it.
When I went to the t-mobile stand they didnt have any because they were selling so fast. I looked at their options and got the mytouch 3g. Brought the phone home and had a blast with the android market, it was so easy to use. Couple days later I went back to buy a case for the mytouch 3g but when I got to the stand they said they just got 6 HD2s in and I could trade in for it. Since it was the phone I wanted I did it.
Took my new HD2 hope and started to mess with it, confused as heck, way different with windows mobile. The phone was fast looked amazing but was not as fun.
Now Im torn what to do.
I guess what Im really trying to do is get input from people who know the market and how these phones will go. Will the HD2 be able to compete with the android market at all? A buddy said Microsoft trys to hard with Windows Mobile to compete but they always fall behind when it comes to phones. Or will the Android market just stay way ahead of the curve?
Thats my rant, I just dont want to regret trading in my HD2 because its still so new on the market.
just got rid of mine...ive dealt with windows mobile too much...i loved the phone but without android on it i feel its not worth it...ive got android on my xperia x1 and love it...just wish i had the big screen like the hd2...i personally suggest you get the nexus one...its an overall better phone and has a fairly big screen along with android....your best bet for now atleast
The HD2 is really nice and fast, but honestly, android is still sort of BETA still. You know what i'm saying? They haven't established completely like Apple. evenutally , Android market will be filled with neat stuff.
I think android is way better than windows mobile.
maybe not apple by games, but eventualy and hopefully, android gets better games and graphics.
And your right, maybe HD2 isn't the "right" time to get it now because it's still new. The android market is still damn new too!
Thanks to Google's unrestricted (like Apple) market, we will eventually take over
I agree I do like the Nexus one from what I have researched but the problem is its $530. Even though Im a new t-mobile customer I still have to get Googles t-mobile 1 person plan for the reduced rate when Im on a family plan atm.
if you are beyond the point where you can return your phone, I would be interested in getting it off your hands. I love the HD2. My wife has it and it is beyond fast. Flashed a custom rom on it and even the splash screen is cool.

No.
Especially to the state-of-the-art part. The HD2 has a better screen than the Nexus One. The HD2 has more hardware RAM than the Nexus One.
The choice is simply Android OS on the Nexus One vs. WinMo on the HD2. The Nexus One's only hardware advantage is the noise-cancellation via the auxiliary microphone, and the trackball that not many actually use. Screen and hardware RAM are probably a bigger deal though.
The EVO 4G is probably the only Android phone from HTC worth getting right now since it doesn't have the god-awful Pentile AMOLED display they use in the Nexus One, Incredible, and Desire.

the screen is a matter of opinion, and it sounds like you've been reading too many tech blogs.
i've compared them both, and i prefer the screen on the Nexus, and so has everyone else that has compared their screen to the AMOLED display on the Nexus. (providing you keep it out of the sunlight)
both the Nexus and HD2 have 512MB of ram(yes, i'm aware the US HD2 has slightly more), and Android is far better with memory management then WM is anyway, so that's a non issue.
and i used my trackball all the time. and who can complain about an extra hardware feature? just dont use it if you don't want it. a legitimate complaint would be the capacitive buttons. those are a PITA until you get used to them.
to the OP, buy the phone you want. but if you liked the mytouch you will LOVE the Nexus. there is absolutely no comparison between the two.

screen size does matter!
i used sony x1 with 3" screen, then Acer neotouch with 3.8 screen, now hd2 with huge 4.3" screen! you can see the different! bigger is better! just try to upgrade your pc monitor to bigger size, and you will see alot more comfortable to the eyes!

All HD2s have 576MB of RAM, not 512MB. The only exception is the Prototype HTC HD2s (Pro.Three) which have 384MB of RAM or thereabouts.
The Nexus One's screen is inferior not only in terms of size but also in terms of color accuracy, sunlight legibility (as you mentioned), and effective resolution. It possesses higher contrast and is comparable in terms of viewing angles, battery life, and power consumption. Yes, I have also seen both devices -- I owned the Nexus One previously.
Also forgot to mention the Nexus One has a bigger battery, but I'm not sure you'd be able to tell with what I've seen.
Don't get me wrong, the Nexus One is a great device. But there is no excuse for arguing the fallacy that the Nexus One is superior hardware to the HD2 -- this is simply not the case. That is a matter of software alone.

Is anybody else wondering why HTC chooses to fall behind?

Where is the new high-end SLIDER with a 1Ghz processor and FRONT FACING CAMERA? I'm so desparate I'd take it on WinMo...maybe. It should have a 4.3" screen too. The best thing we got comin' is the Vanguard...and that's missing features. What do you guys think? Did I miss out on a phone?
They probably have something epic in store for us with Project Emerald.
But to be honest, I don't really think they are falling behind with their phones. How many phone have a 4.3 screen? Only a few, it is not really a market standard. 3.5-3.7 is the standard for screen size I believe. They are doing good with their top of the line phones, I can't wait until we see the 3 new HTC device coming out for T-Mobile and HTC Ace (or Desire HD).
Yea but..

I mentioned Emerald, which is now specualted as Vanguard/Vision. The screen size thing was secondary. I really meant that thier letting themselves fall to the iPhones front facing camera when they had one first! When was the last time they made a respectable device with a front camera? Not since the TP2 I say....

Maybe I'm missing something here, but...I'm not sure how the lack of a slider and front facing camera in your portfolio equates to 'falling behind'. I mean, aside from the lack of a secondary camera, HTC phones generally have among the highest specs in the market, and usually very good design.
Additionally, as you yourself mentioned, HTC used to release sliders and secondary camera smartphones constantly. Today, a large number of their smartphones have opposing designs -- this generally suggests to me that HTC found this much more profitable than their design of the past.

Love the Tbolt..But..

I love the phone in everyway...but...Im disappointed with the screen. I had a Fascinate before it, and while everything about it sucked, the screen was beautiful! I guess i got spoiled with the amoled. Whats everyone elses opinion here. Im contemplating returning it, hoping the bionic has a better screen.
yeah, the Thunderbolt's screen doesn't even come close to the Fascinate. I had the two side-by-side last night and the difference especially at max brightness was quite noticeable. I also noticed that angry birds isn't as smooth and fluid on the Bolt as the Fascinate but other than that, the Thunderbolt easily outdoes the Fascinate.
I guess the amoled screens are too expensive to manufacture. I will not even consider the stealth from sammy. I have given up with them as a cellphone manufacturer...the fasc is STILL running eclair...A big FAIL on sammies end.
At least we wont get screen burn in's like amoled gets.
i went from an iPhone 4 to an evo, so dropped resoultion going to a bigger screen, and actually thought it looked great, to then this phone, and I have to say, the screen on this phone for me is fantastic. I think it is maybe a little to warm sometimes, as when showing flesh tones, but I would assume that like for the evo, we will be able to change that over time.

no, this happens among all the carriers. Samsung is the slowest cell phone MFG to release updates for their current phone models. Unless the list changed, and I would have to go find it on engadget, HTC was the highest, and above samsung by a good deal.
I know what you mean coming from the Incredible. But I've gotten used to the slcd just don't look at your other for a while. I think its pointless to look for perfection especially on a phone screen. You'd need a color calibrated broadcast monitor for perfection. One thing i noticed is the slcd is much better in direct sunlight. So a little less brightness and clarity keeping in mind I can't really notice at normal viewing distances and the fact that you can see the screen outside seems like an ok trade off. (Yes if you hold it really close to your eyes and study it you can but... Just my thoughts on it.

Went out for a walk yesterday w/the Bolt using Cardio Trainer, my god it was impossible to see the screen in the sun ... didn't feel like trying to tweak settings, make brighter, etc., while I was on the move - but will do so next time before I start the run just in case I want to see where I'm at.
I definitely notice a difference between the AMOLED Incredible (my wife's phone, formerly mine) and the TB. The colors are off - too brilliant in the wrong way. Blues are purplish and Reds are off too. Its even worse when comparing to the iPhone, which is what I have been carrying lately. Not happy with it - the crispness of the iPhone makes this look blown out. As my wife said "It's like the iPhone is HD and the Thunderbolt is SD." The additional real estate is nice, but definitely prefer the Inc AMOLED and the iPhone Retina.
Ooof.

I don't personally do video/photo editing on my phone or watch movies, which is the only reasons I could think of a screen truly mattering. I have the DROID Incredible currently w/ the AMOLED and well generally I can't really tell any functional difference between it and the Thunderbolt screen I played with in a Verizon store after ordering one for myself (arrives tomorrow).
I am a bit of a video/audiophile but only on things like my TV & computer monitors, but can't see why it'd matter for such a small screen either.
Has anyone had any experience w/ the Thunderbolt in direct sunlight? I can't see anything on my Incredible when it's in the sun. I could at least get a vague idea w/ my old iPhone 3G... which I find a more important factor than the color quality/pixel density on a phone.

I get what you are saying, but your cavalier dismissal ignores the fact that other devices exist that have superior quality. Its not like I am wishing for something ideal that isnt possible. One might expect that when paying top dollar for a "flagship" device you would get some good quality hardware. Not saying the device is flawed, just that the screen definitely isnt as good as phones that came a year before it.
As for properly functioning software, I doubt you could argue that this is functioning perfectly - maybe for you it is and maybe my experiences are anecdotal but I and my coworker are experiencing random reboots, problems with calendar sync, and data transfer problems where you have to reboot to resume connection. I will also volunteer that our Verizon rep said she is seeing very high return rates on the Thunderbolt due to software issues. Again, maybe anecdotal and maybe "some people you just can't please" but sometimes good enough isnt enough in the face of alternatives that work better out of the gate.

The amoiled screen has a amazing color saturation; however the low subpixel count makes text look very pixelated. I much prefer the slcd screen for viewing web pages. Makes the small text so much clearer. I had the Nexus S prior to this phone and I think the Thunderbolt is much nicer overall, including the display (for my usage).

The bionic will have a better qhd screen but if it is like the atrix then it I'd using the pentile matrix and will more than likely look even more "fuzzy" than the bolt. Do a Google search for arstechnica pentile matrix they have a great article on it and after using super lcd on my incredible (I had the amoled version as well and the nexus one) I much prefer the super lcd to any amoled with pentile. Plus the bionic won't even have the better colors like amoled. That is a big fail on motorola for making their first qhd screens pentile. I have to believe the screen on the thunderbolt will have to look better.
OK, there is definately major variences between screens on different phones. I just got a replacement for a dead speaker, and well...the screen has much more contrast, and does not wash out much at an angle. Im suprised to see such a difference between the 2.
I actually love this screen. I came from the Nexus One AMOLED screen and I prefer the TBolt. The screen is brighter on the Tbolt and the colors are just ever so slightly less saturated than the AMOLED which is actually a good thing in some cases(movies and skin tones)
I'm with you, I miss the blacks of my amoled dinc.

[Q] Do you really like "bigger and bigger" smartphones?

Hi guys,
As you can guess, I'm not fan with latest smartphones like Galaxy SII and SIII, HTC Sensation, and so on.
I consider them simply too big to be used as phones. I could never do or answer a call with these ones.
I think of them like "monster" phones.
Why, Is there no new android phone (high quality level) with dimensions lower than 4.0 inches?
I think this is a thing Iphone is better than other phones (at the moment).
Do you really like "bigger and bigger" smartphones?

I like bigger ones, to a point, too big gets uncomfortable to use, the sensation might be the biggest I can use (I have small hands) smaller screens are harder to see for me. my eyes are going. soon time for glasses.
i like S3 and One X but i think bigger phone like Note is great for the big screen but to unusefull for the too big dimention
I like very much but i think the Galaxy's SIII size is the limit to be cool.
Big phones are good to a point. The galaxy note is too large.
I do not see what the big problem is?
Why do people moan about size? It's perfectly fine size.
Smart phone that is. You just get used to them. Big deal. move on.
well that all depends on your use and really preference. I got the Note a month ago and dont regret it at all. Honestly when i pick up a captivate with 4 inch screen i have trouble using it. If i was to just want a smartphone for regular smartphone stuff instead of a tablet phone, then i would have to go under 5", but i like the option of screen real estate just in case. Its really just comes down to preference.
uhm...,
obviously I don't refer to Galaxy Note, its not a true smartphone at all.
It has been created for other purpose, and in this case I could agree with dimensions.
Anyway in my honest opinion:
1. For me it's a pain to stay more than 5 minutes in call with a SGII near my ear. Too big for one hand.
2. It is not so smart to use more than one finger to reach all the corners of the display.
3. It is not so handy
4. It is not so comfortable in pocket.

Font size is indipendent from display size.
What is different is only the area to contain the stuff.

yeah, bigger is better. the resolution is everything for todays mobiles phones
I think better is not really good after is break, 4.0 inch it is the maximum fro me
It depends on the user's hand, head and pocket size. Lol!
e.g. The Incredible Hulk will need at least a 7-inch tablet as a Smartphone.
Tinker Bell can use the iPhone as a big screen HDTV.

Regards

i use to feel the same way. i remember the first time i bought my first smart phone it was an iphone. i remember walking into to the store and then walking out saying no way, no way it's just too big. and that was going from a small nextel push to talk phone. to the iphone 3g it was just way bigger it was like a monster compaired to my nextel. so it took me awhile too go back to store (about a month later) i eventually got the iphone 3g. and i remember thinking the whole time as i drove back home... this thing is too big i know i'm not going to like but i gave it a try. the first few days were hard i'm mean the size and the battery life was not what i was accustomed to. but i eventually git used to the size and the bad battery life.
my last iphone was a iphone 4. and my current phone now is a GS2 and now when ever i pick up an iphone it's just way too small i can't go back no way. i am now thining of the getting the note. at this point i have lerned to adapt the newer bigger phones and find myself never looking back to the old 3.5-4.0 days.
guess this guys video explains how i feel now.

Like someone saldo it allí depends on the need. I heard somebody that those huge pones were made for People with big hands Like basketball and football de playero. I also heard that información japan all Phone were miniture and u can do anything with it.
i dont really like that Trend of bigger and bigger Phones, i mean, 4" is the biggest i would buy, first i had a Nokia N95 its was cool and for that time THE High End Device but it was really thick and i think the screen too small for Internet(2,6"), so i got a Nokia C6-00, bad performance but relativly good screen (3,2") in fact the Displaycable broke and i needed Replacement , now i changed to Sony Xperia P (4") and it fits perfect!
Two Friends of mine owned HTc One X and Galaxy SIII and i had both in my Hand but they are definitly too big by slightly low resolution change...
bigger or just nice
there are many phones just release and releasing soon in the android market.having alot of my time researching for specs of this upcoming phones,i can say that 4.2-4.8 inch display phones will become the norms in the near future.its about individual preference.i still stick to my nexus one.hehe.but have eyes on the s2(not s3 as for me the design is odd)..
I think there is a balance between too big and just right. Having said that, it is a moving scale, because everybody has different needs and uses for the device.
i don't like mini-laptop size any phones........

Apples new IPhone 6 will have a 4 inch display! It's common sense!

I'm not sure if this post is made in satire or not. I'm gonna go with satire, since EVERYTHING rumored about the next iPhones say they'll have a 4.7" and 5.5" screen. What that video fails to address is the fact that most people have two hands. And that even on my Galaxy Light (with a 4" screen, same as the iPhone 5), I prefer to use it two-handed rather than one-handed.
Steve Jobs is dead. He had his vision, and right or wrong, there's no denying his influence. But public opinion doesn't seem to agree with his vision, and that's why Androids with bigass screens are popular, and iPhones are getting Android sized. Small phones are great. Big phones are great. Let the customer decide, not some dead over-romanticized douchebag.
I don't think bigger is better, but 4.0 inch is too small for me.
And what is the sales point of upcoming iPhone?
Health care? Deeper integration to the OS X(Yosemite)? lol.

How can you say that. According to the ad it's common sense
I'm ok with the new Apple iPhone 6 to come out but my opinion is yes bigger is nice maybe even better but is it really what you want holding up to your face if you are not a headphone or blue tooth kind of person ? Also isn't bigger why we have Tablets / Epads for ? I think the new size of the iPhone 6 is as big as anyone should want to hold to their head but like OP (Planterz) says let the people choose what they want.
Just my 2 cents..
ios/iPhone ewwww. so ugly
I have a Nexus 5 right now and it honestly feels small. My next device will have to be 6". I always wanted to give the iPhone a go someday, but man if they keep making dem tiny phones with crappy battery life that day will never come I suppose.
I think it will still be 4-inch, I still use an iPod Touch 4 with a 3.5 inch screen as my main portable device. A larger screen would make it even more expensive and harder to support by developers since they'll need to support many screen sizes.

yeah, apple said it's common sense. there is no way they can go against their own word.
I didn't see the video but it doesn't make sense to make the display bigger.
with the rumors goin around and the fact that they have increased their screen size before.....i think they will do it again.....

There's LOTS of evidence to show that 4.7" is a definite reality, but NONE to show that the (imaginary) 5.5" will come to pass.
Let me re-iterate that for those who are not so good at piecing together a general likelihood of something being a reality, due to there being NO LEAKS of ANYTHING 5.5", no part image no nothing...
There IS NOT going to be a 5.5" iPhone 6, not this year at least. Come back here and quote me when the 6 is released, and your hindsight will give you the 50/50 vision you will need to see how blindingly obvious that was, had you snapped out of your idealistic daydreams, and woken up to how to do a little (basic) detective work and generally use some common sense.
My old s3 already feels too tiny. And that's 4.8"....
I am never going below 5.7" again. I love the screen on the S5 but it's too bloody tiny. Reminds me of the old gameboys you needed a magnifying lens to use properly...

I'm perfectly comfortable holding 5.7" to my ear whilst calling, cheers. (and I'm a woman, so there goes the 'hands too small' argument.)
(5.7" and a bit, the otterbox commuter isnt the tiniest of cases)
