X10 vs Legend? - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
Well my confusion comes when I must decide to either trade in my Xperia X10 for a Legend or stick to it.
Can anyone share opinions to make up my mind?
Thanks in advance

Xperia X10

that's like trading in a Ferrari for an Honda, so basically it's a downgrade....

O.k now you got your answer, what about an Experia X10 or a Desire?
Just wondering as I just got a Desire a couple of days ago coming from a HD2 and to be honest it's a fantastic phone but I do miss the screen of the HD2.

I myself got rid of my HD2 for the Xperia X10 and the screen size is the closest thing from one another. I like the Desire, it is sweet and quick, but the UX is a fresh air from so much sense and weather eye candy animation.

i wouldn't recommend any sony ericsson phones now. especially xperia x10. my xperia x10 is now my most expensive paper weight ever. such a waste of time, money and effort. they should throw this **** out of the android phones. Now, before buying any phone's i would suggest everyone to make a deep research first on what ****'s does this phone will give and if there are solutions available.

well, if u want to flee from sense (as I've understood), u have your answer

only problem is the x10 is still currently running 2.1 stock but will (hopefully) be upgrading to 2.3 gingerbread soon (within the next 6 months so not too soon)

The question is why you want to drop Nexus One for some pile of crap X10?
I would not recommend any SE phones too because all my phones were SE's and I can say that this brand was one of the best in past 10 years but now it just sucks. All phones have insane hardware and ****y software. So my recommendation is to drop SE from your wishlist

There's nothing wrong with 2.1 if you're just using it for phone calls and texting. The only problem I've run into with 2.1 is that the majority of the cooler apps on the market don't run or run very limited on 2.1 so is all about preference in my opinion!

Dell streak is tooooooooo big, N900 is tooo old (and a dying os), Leo is the best of your options. But, maybe you are considering other phones like the desire or Nexus One maybe????
Get the Samsung Vibrant(unless u care about front facing camera and flash get EVO). Galaxy S series is the smoothest Android phone in the market.

Nah, the i9000 is Samsung, remember the others???? I just don't think I'm ready to trust samsung with phones yet, plus the design looks tacky to me. I also hear bad things about the software and limits to custom ROMS....
i am not really intrested in samsung phones tbh (I don't like there visual appearance)
I also don't like the desires look.
And the nexus one is to expensive as i can get these devices for quite a bit cheaper.
less talk, more HD2. $250 on CL right now. If the explosion in Android development recently hasn't proven to you, people who matter love this phone. I haven't seen any phone get this much Android love so fast. Hell some native android phones don't get this much android love. The people we have working on the HD2 are amazing. They went from won't even boot to semi stable in like a week. There doing stuff people predicted 6 months to complete overnight. I'm very excited for the HD2 at the moment and see it living on for many years since all the phones from here out will be new gen locked down iphoney OS's. So HD2 may really be the last of the mohicans.

Considering exchanging Captivate for Xperia X10...

Hey, I was wondering if anyone else has thought about this too, but, since it's been less than 30 days since the launch of the captivate, we'd be able to exchange / return it for a full refund. The reason I'd consider it is because the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It's not that the captivate is a bad phone or anything, (i love it!), it's just that this new Xperia X10 has some pretty killer specs and the stock sony skin looks pretty damn nice. 1ghz cpu, 8.1 mp camera w/ flash... I'm not sure what version of android it's launching with yet though...
Any thoughts?
TLDR, bigger, sexier phone from sony, still able to exchange.
It only has Android 1.6 on it...Which screams NO WAY to me...Sony should have been able to create a phone that could run at least the current version...so why didn't they?

Well they haven't confirmed which OS it will run. The reason it takes so long for everyone to roll out new android OSs, is because they have to update their skins to match it, which is why we don't have 2.2 right now, because Samsung is wasting their time with touchwiz (which i hated and replaced)
The SE X10 is just another crippled qsd825X device, it stands no were near a galaxy S phone.
These types of threads are always good for a laugh. Usually the OP has already made up their mind. What you then have is two different groups of people responding. First group either tries to "help" the OP reconsider by bad mouthing their thinking or extoling the virtues of the current "flavor of the month" device. Then you have the second group of antagonists that simply want to discredit/embarass/harass the OP and insist he return the device imediately and just go away.
Of course the OP usually has an agenda also. Any way you slice it they are looking for a way to justify their decision. If they stay, they are happy knowing their initial decision was correct. If they go they can blame it on how bad the community treated them.
Always good for wasting away a few precious moments.

Where are these killer specs you speak of ? 1ghz snapdragon is old not to mention comes with slowest GPU , 8p camera is nothing new ... and if OS is 1.6 then its a major downgrade. Internal only 1GB of storage , can't play back MKVs.
Sony is way late to the game with this phone, no superAMOLED or somekind of high end LCD . It was suppose to be released 9 months ago, 9 MONTHS !
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749689
Basically, you are coming to the Captivate forum for your opinion, so you are going to hear things slanted towards the (awesome) Captivate. that being said, the biggest issue right now facing the Captivate is it's GPS. When (not if) it gets fixed, it will be the best phone on AT&T's network, and perhaps the best current android. It's GPU is second to none, the hummingbird is slightly faster then last year's batch of snapdragons, it comes with a massive 16GB internal memory, the SAMOLED is great (though there is argument as to which screen is best, the new LCD HD, iphone's screen, or the SAMOLED).
The only hardware in which the captivate is lacking is the camera. However megapixel is not the end all be all. And the flash on a cell phone is next to worthless because it is not powerful enough to illuminate even a small room or remove red eye, so I don't consider it's lack of flash important.
X10 has been out in Europe for several months
I owned an X1, dont trust SE they will screw ya with the lack of software updates
X10 may never get 2.2, at least the Galaxy S phones are all GUARANTEED 2.2
I hate how everyone dismisses the flash on phone camera's. Yeah it can't light up a room but it can light up the face of my four friends staying a few feet away from it outside at night.
All I have to say is dont buy a phone with a Qualcomm processor in it. Just look at the HTC phones that pale in comparrison in terms of performance. Nuff said. The same company that made the humming bird processor made the Apple A4 processor.

That would be Samsung.
I also owned a x10 looks sweet but 1.6os maybe 2.1 update and prob not 2.2. Screens nice same processor as n1 but the n1 is hella faster I currently also own the galaxy s i9000 euro version its super smooth and as fast if not faster than the n1 and its running 2.1 .
Also if your not into the touch wiz do what I did I put the stock 2.1 launcher works great!

I had an SE phone since.... well, long ago, when they were called just Ericsson. Anyway, I had P800, P900, and P1i. All those times, I would think that, man, won't it be nice when they provide an update that was worthwhile. They never got to it. I lost all my interest in Sony Ericsson in general. I switched from my malfunction P1i to Captivate, and I haven't seen that P1i ever since....

They have confirmed it is running Android 1.6. Is there particular reason why you want the X10? At best its a great midend handset. It only beats the Captivate in the megapixel race? Things like industrial design and Android skin are subjective of course.

DUDE SAME HERE!!! I thought I was like the 3rd person to even have p1i.... It was a f....ing dump, hardware camera, bla bla bla is great..... UPDATES NONE!! There were like some firmware updates, but there was absolutely no app support. GDesk was like OMG..... then nothing was really supported, it was just horrible waste of money..... 500 bux for a barely function "smartphone".... THAT Thing was crap.....
Funny story, I have a friend that works for SE in San Diego for Product Marketing. She's all please support SE and by the Xperia X10, I was like don't even get me started..... She STFU..... only if she offered a BJ.....
Sorry guys /rant.
Speaking of SE San Diego, I just came from the Sony Style store in Fashion Valley Mall here in San Diego. I finally saw the X10. After rebooting it, I started to play with it and check out the apps and settings. I didn't like it from the get-go. I just had to put it down and checked out their 3D TVs instead
Getting a hands-on experience with an X10 was like a step back. I've been a Sony Ericsson user for years (owned 3 phones and loved them.). I was disappointed on this one. I was playing with my coworker's HTC Incredible. Incredible phone indeed! This is what got me to take the Android plunge! (I've owned 2 older HTC devices). Since I'm still with AT&T (I didn't want to jump ship yet) and I didn't want to settle for the HTC Aria with a slower processor, the Captivate was the best choice for me.

I agree stay away from Qualcomm. They helped screw a lot of people with the whole 'missing drivers' problem a few years ago.
I think the company is called Intrinsic (sp?) Anyway they designed Hummingbird for Samsung and they are also owned by Apple.

[Q] Considering getting Inspire 4G (currently use Xperia X10)

Just have a few general questions.
How much better can I expect the Inspire to be than the X10?
(just generally speaking in your own opinion)
Now more specifically.
How is the Inspire's speaker? Is it louder than the X10?
Is the bootloader cracked?
Has anyone managed to get Gingerbread on it?
Do you have CyanogenMod already?
App2sd and JIT?
xRecovery?
Multitouch?
Flashtool?
Thanks.

Coming from SE xperia x10a I can safely assure you that it is time to switch to the HTC Inspire "4g"
It has everything your looking for except flashtools... Its fast and super zippy conpared to the x10a especially HTC Sense compared to Timescape UI... the extra screen estate is great...Inspire was rooted and bootleader cracked before day one and has complete roms ready to be flashed through Clockwork... Unlike the x10 which has incomplete roms all over the place (though it is a great dev community with J, Z, Binary, and Trip)... Gingerbread with CyanogenMod 7 RC1 ready and waiting for your flash crazy ways, although I suggest you try Android Revolution first... JIT is already enabled in Android 2.2 (we didn't have it on x10a b/c technically we're still on 1.6 /2.1)...and finally multi-touch right out of the box with no need to keep waiting for updates (multitouch not dual touch like x10a)... Battery for HTC Inspire is kinda week but not that much worse than Xperia... The sound is not bad on stock, but after flashing there is some distortion (dev's are working on a fix for this as we speak)
If you have any other questions feel free to let me know... I too for so long was hopeful for the Xperia x10a but after some frustrating months (almost a year, I imported the phone from Rogers in Canada) I'm just glad to be in an environment where i can tweek, mod, and customize my phone that I own... Thank you HTC!!! The only way I will ever go back to any SE phones is if GeoHot or Binary or anyone else can crack bootleader so I can mod the sh*t out of my phone (for some reason SE thinks that I'm just renting their devices and that they have total control over it) SE futures phones like the Arc look sexy but after my experience with the X10a I will always be hesitant before picking it as my next phone....
Hope this helps

Froyo supports installing apps to SD.
Quadrant scores around 1700-1800 stock and all the way up to 2600-2800 fully tricked out and overclocked.
No, speaker on stock is better than x10a... i meant after flashing custom kernals the sound is not as good as the orginal stock...
On Android Revolution HD i'm getting 42.772 MFLOPS
and on quadrant with the processor oc'd to 1.2 i've been averaging around 2400-2700
Spectacular! Then I'll rush to AT&T and pick one up first thing tomorrow morning.
Thanks for all the help guys. I gave you all a "thanks" and I suppose I'll just post here in case I can think of anything else I'd like to know.
Ok one last quick question before I buy it.
Does it come with a stock screen protector pre applied like the X10 or should I buy one immediately at the AT&T store?
No pre-applied screen protector, so you might want to pick one up... the inspire screen does like fingerprints... lol
Oh and the Inspire casing is a lot more solid than the plastic-y feel of the x10a, but you still might want to a protecor as well
Good luck and have fun
No screen protector.

I have an X10 too, and the battery is killing me.
Need to switch to a new phone that has a better battery, when i dont plug it in the office, i arrive home with power off..

[Q] HD2 Replacement....which phone to pick?

Hey everyone, I had an HD2, loved that it was hacked to the max with a million roms available, and that it was always updated to the newest android almost immedietly, unfortunately the wifi chip died 2 months later and i had to sell it.
Now im looking for a used phone on ebay basically, budget is max 250-300, the samsung vibrant looked good, but im affraid if i buy it ill be stuck on froyo or gingerbread, and not be able to update to android ice cream end of the year (while im sure the HD2 would be hacked to ice cream immedietly lol)
Seeing as the HD2 left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak, which phone would you recomend that has good dev support and most likely to be able to upgrade down the line? thanks
I have the HTC HD7 and I think you'll like it, the OS is AMAZING!!! And I saw it for 280* around Amazon.com
If you want android, but stick to the hTC family, they you should think about the hTC Desire HD. But if it's too expensive, the X10 from Sony will be also a good choice, and I saw it around 270* on Amazon. But the downside of Android is, that it is not sure when you get updates while WP7 (HTC HD7...) is.
Maybe, you should think about the iPhone, that thing has updates. And WP7 is also easy to update.
Since I don't know where you live and if you are a professional hacker or a noob, I just gave you recommendations that should fir almost anybody.
* New, unused price in EUR. Price may change depending on when you buy.

Of course,
EDIT As the guy abov333 said, The x10 is great too! But its best if you flash the miui rom that just came out for it
it adds multitouch and such stuff.
AND Miui On the desire has OTA updates!! :3
The HD2 is an amazing device,
so many hacks available for it c:
i had one But traded it since the size was a little to big for what i like,
I would for sure check if you can get an new HD2 (i mean used x3)
Or maybe the desire HD
Just as the Desire! I have one its an good size and there are tons of roms
just as CM7 and miui
even a sense 3.0 rom is out!
I would look for those since they will help you to continue with hacking in the future
Moon c:
THanks
thanks guys will check them out
I've had a HD2 for over a year and a half now, and have been using Android on it for nearly half that time. I've also played with WP7 on it, and was utterly disappointed. I loved WM6.5 so I expected a LOT from WP7, but it simply didn't deliver.
The Desire HD is the closest thing to a HD2 out there, but is obviously a native Android device. Android does get updated regularly (especially if you're a regular on this site), as I'm sure you know. Seriously, no disrespect to Tuskuno's opinion - I just disagree with it.
I'm just about to get a Samsung Galaxy S II on contract, but if I were going for an off-the-shelf stock phone, it would probably be the Desire HD.
You can't go wrong with getting a Nexus. A Nexus One is like $260 on ebay and has a great development community along with frequent updates because it's a google experience.
Nexus
That was my first choice, then I read about how its not truely multitouch and is problamatic in multitouch games, so i decided against it.
the desire Z (tmobile g2) looks like a viable option, priced around 200 on ebay
If you want to have the latest version of android in your phone, i suggest you pick one supported by Cyanogen. I dont have enought posts yet to include links, but there's a relevant list over at "cyanogenmod dot com slash devices".
its simple just go for the EU version of the Samsung Galaxy S.
sounds good
would love to but its too out of my budget, cant spend a dime over 300
Dude believe me and just stick with the hd2 a lot of development space towork with plus u get the best of three words wp7, wm, Android. The hd7 is virtually the same thing as the hd2 with there old school screens but the hd7 lacks development at the moment.

[Resolved] [Q] Which of these Android phones should I buy?

Hello everyone,
after spending a few years as an iPhone user, I've now decided to switch to android.
Actually I've been pretty interested in this os since the release of the first nexus and I must now decide which phone I should take.
Because I'm italian, I've found a pretty good offer from my career, TIM, and I can choose to take one of this phones for a very low price:
Original Samsung Galaxy S
HTC Desire S
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play
LG Optimus 3d
Google Nexus S
As far as my personal taste is concerned, I'd choose one among the Nexus S, the Optimus 3d or the Desire s.
I know the newest one in terms of hardware is, indeed, the Optimus 3d, which is actually the one I'd go for because of all that dual stuff (I'm not that much interested in the 3d, though it's something more to have). My fear is that it's support will soon be discontinued (maybe because of the 3d) and I'll find my self with a super phone stuck with an old software.
Actually I've also seen Cyanogen is soon going to officially support it, and that'll be a good way to be constantly up to date.
My second choice would be the Desire S, because I've seen there are plenty of roms keeping it up to date, including an unofficial cyanogenmod and one upgrading it to sense 3.0 (actually, what do you think of sense? Is it worth it?)
And my third and last choice would be the Nexus S, which is, indeed, the most customizable one.
So, which one would you go for?
Hope to hear from you soon,
Lorenzo
Edit: today (sept 16th) I bought the Nexus s. Thanks to everyone.
nexus s, I gave up my evo for it. Let me tell you best switch ever 10x smoother, faster browser, no bloatware. Get updates 10x quicker. More development. Just amazing phone all around.

To be honest, I'm nothing like a phone gamer. Actually, I'm neither a developer, but I like spending some time playing with roms and that kind of stuff.
So, for the moment I think you all agree saying the Nexus S is the best option.
Anyone else?
Sorry for the double post, but I actually bought the Nexus S. Thanks to everyone who helped me.
