Nexus and WOL - doesn't work for me :( - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I installed this app http://android.mafro.net/
but it will not wake my QNAP 509 server that
is properly configured and will wake up from
any other PC on the network.
I tried ports 0,7,9 but still no luck
Any ideas or other WOL recommended app ?
Thanks

Anyone ?

Try the Router in DMZ?

I'm trying to send the magic packet on LAN so there is no firewall involved.

I used this program ( http) ://magicpacket.free.fr/ on my desktop to log if the magic packet arrives on my computer.
To send the magic packet from my nexus one i used aWOL Free ( http .androlib.com/android.application.uk-co-mallsoft-awolfree-jCA.aspx )
This worked fine.

Thanks for reply, I'll give it a try

Well, I tried but it doesn't work for me.
The application confirms that magic packet was received but when I test it to actually to wake the PC it doesn't work. ( once again it does work without problems from other computers on the LAN )
Any ideas what could be the problem ?
Thanks

Anyone ?
I don't know what else to try

dont know anymore
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk

Maybe its your PC settings that wrong then? Do you have the right power management settings?
WOL magic packets are pretty simple after all

It works just fine from 4 other computers on the network.
They can wake each other without any problems but
Nexus won't wake any of them and I can confirm using the utility
Argon007 posted that all of them receive the magic packet.

Indeed, i can't get it to work either. Something is missing or I'm missing something, I'll try to contact the author.

My bad, it does work, I used the node's IP address, it should be the networks broadcast address, in this case 192.168.0.255. Elementary I use it to startup a Asus commando mobo.

have you tried putting the broadcast address?
you can try the general 255.255.255.255, or calculate your own broadcast address doing an OR operation between your private subnet address and the complement of your subnet mask..
it works to me!..

Darn, it still doesn't work for me
All computers are on the same subnet 255.255.255.0
Router IP is 192.168.1.1
All computers use static address (192.168.1.2 3 4 ...)
They can wake each other without any problem using mc-wol
Settings in aWOL
Name: QNAP509
IP Address 192.168.1.40
MAC Address : 00:08:9B:BA:xx:xx ( verified and correct)
Port: Default 9 ( tried 7 and 0 as well without any success)
Also when the NAS or any other PC is wake I can access shared folders
from my N1 without problems
Any ideas ?
Thanks

did you try even writing the broadcast address in the IP address field?
on my N1 i'm using the program "Wake on Lan" and it works..

I used Wake on lan as well and it didn't work for me,
that's why I tried aWOL.
Yes, I trid brodcast address 192. 168. 1. 255 - didn't work

SUCCESS !
I tried brodcast address with Wake On Lan and it's working
Thanks for the help !

Can you wake up the NAS from any other PC on your LAN? Can you wake up anything from the Nexus on the LAN?

Yes and No
It's all working now
Once again - THANKS

Remote Desktop Cannot Connect

Hello all:
(first of all, I apologize for the double post, I erred and replied to a thread in the diamond forum)
I'm having problems getting my remote desktop to work. Been trying to connect since I picked up my Fuze on the 11th.
I have three different computers that I can successfully administer via my desktop. I've tried using 3G to connect, no success. I've tried using Wi-fi to connect, no success. I've used local computer names, IP addresses, properly forwarded ports --
It has to be a setting I'm missing on the phone. Any ideas? TIA
What version of Windows are you trying to connect to? Do you have a Firewall? And have you done the port forwarding on the router?
But the only options you need is Computer: IP Address and the user name and password. Use a Domain if you are connecting to PCs on a domain. Also when I logged in not using 16bit color under options the PC was almost unusable.
My attempts
The things I have tried since my post:
1) attempting to connect to Windows Server 2003 machine, non-local. Used IP address with port, same IPort that works from my desktop. Left username/password blank -- filled them both in -- left the domain name blank -- filled it in. All failed. Get the error message with three possible causes listed. Connected to my home network via wifi, data connection disabled (sometimes causes problems with my internet browsing if they're both enabled)
2) attempted to connect to a local machine, running XP Pro. Again, tried all possible combinations of username/password completeness, no success. Using Wifi
My local router does have a firewall, and the remote router does as well. I can successfully navigate those using my desktop (or laptop, for that matter)
GTO: I appreciate the quick reply...thank you.

Okay its been awhile since I used 2k3 sever. Using 2k8 lately but are you trying to use Terminal Server? and if your using 2k3 and you have ISA enabled I know it can be a pain to do port forwarding with it. But let me get this stright. You have no issues using XPs Remote Desktop to log into the server machines Terminal Server/Remote Desktop? Here is an idea. Whatever port your running Terminal Server/Remote Desktop type the IP Address with a : and port. IE 192.168.0.1:3000
Also if you would like you can PM the IP address of one of the Machines and I will try from my phone that I know is working with my machine. I am pretty sure you don't need to end a user name or password and it will bring me up to the login screen or you can make a temp account. On also on the Win2k3 machine I am pretty sure you have to add the option to login with Terminal Server even if its the Administrator account.
I am able to connect to my local XP machine over wifi using the ip addy/no port. Hostname (DNS) connection attempt failed, though. My 2k3 server's power supply died or I would test that for you.
No special router config (port fwd) for my device had been done.
The fact that you can't get to your local box on your local network is where I'd start.
Local Network Issues
Thanks again to you both...
I think that might be the problem -- the local network setup. I can connect via wifi, and browse the web. However, I can't install a network printer using the WinMo app that's included, and I can't seem get to the local PC even when I use the local IP instead of the DNS name. I did check, I'm being issued an IP address by the router (obviously), but still no dice on anything relating to network based traffic.
Is there a way to ping using WinMo? I'd like to be able to use that start.
Cont..
Also, I've noticed that I don't get the same error each time. Depending on which machine I'm trying to connect to, it'll give me an error with either two or three options as to why it's not working. Trying to figure out what that's telling me.
As far as Terminal Services are concerned, when I connect from the desktop, I believe I'm using Remote Desktop there (honestly, I haven't been paying attention -- I just use whatever pops up when I type 'mstsc' from the Run dialog, lol), and I can connect to the 2003 server. However, I can't play with this anymore today, because apparently the server is down, and I won't be able to get to it till Monday.
I think I'm going to go play with the ATT proxy and see if that changes anything. I think mine is still enabled because I read that it might help with the GPS problems...
I have found some freeware app... pocketping 1.6 and microsoft has a network tool offering which I am not sure will work on WM6. I have no exp. with either tool on WM.
Can you get to your http/https router mgmt interface from the device? Check your router's client table? Does your router have any logging capabilities?
Sorry, more questions than answers.
Router
I am able to "dial" into the router from my phone -- it shows the HTCP4600 in the clients table with an IP of 192.168.2.108 ... all good.
My logging on the router was disabled, but now it is enabled. What should I be looking for?
I think i'll try the pocketping...
Now make sure inside of the router then you have all the correct ports forwarded.
It should be port 3999 to 3999 On UDP and TCP and then your PC ip behind the firewall.
Pocketping, JETCET Print 5, and success
Here's the update:
Discovered that by disabling the AT&T proxy on the Fuze, I was finally able to connect to my network printer -- the Fuze doesn't have the drivers for my printer, but that's another thread.
So I was able to make my first IN-Network contact. Installed pocketping 1.6, and it's a very useful tool. I'm able to successfully ping the computers on my network now that the proxy is disabled -- an voila...I can also connect to my laptop on my own network! The main trick was to use the network IP address and not the DNS name.
Thanks to both of you who helped out.

i dont wan waste this function for my hd2...
thank a lot

What windows version does your PC run?
Have you actually activated remote desktop on the PC?
Are you trying to connect via local network (are you at home) or from another place? If from another place, have you configured your router to forward port 3389 to your PC?
I'm having the same problem.. Not had any experience in remote desktoping myself (except stopping the Work's IT guy from spying on me whilst i trawl through XDA good at stopping, not so good at starting )
I think the reason I havent managed to get it to work is down to my router (Thompson peice of s*it!) wont let me.....
What i'm trying to get at is it might be your router...
Can't do it either, Thompson router might be my issue.
i did'nt look at the youtube vids, so i'm not sure you already looked into this. when on the target computer remote desktop is probably already on, but did you also allow all (older) versions of remote desktop te connect?
i remember that option is there since vista (perhaps even XP). for example: when that option is turned off in vista, any xp machine won't be able to connect. i'm pretty sure remote desktop mobile qualifies for 'old'
1. Right click on My Computer , properties , remote , enable remote on this computer
2. Do not obtain private address automaticly from your router , use static IP private address instead ,and on your router do a port forwarding to that static address
example 192.168.0.10 port 3389
3.Install client from dyndns.org that will map your IP address to your dynamicly changing IP global address that your service provider assignes you
4.Configure Administrator password on your windows computer if you dont allready have it
5.Run your remote desktop from your winmo and input all necessary that you had configured
I know that wont probablly be enough , but it is a start ,all missing blanks fill by yourself , google for things you dont know
done all that, still getting same connection error as the OP
im so confused now i dont know what ip i should put into the hd2 remote desktop app and dont even know if i configured my router ( asus wl520 gc ) right =/ if some 1 has the same router as i do, could you please tell me how to config it?
still cant get to work.
Remote Desktop nightmare..
Seems like u guyz gave up on this prob lol.
I getting really frustrated now, after 4 hours trying to get it working.
I have Vista Home Premium. Ppl on some sites are saying that you cannot use this OS to connect remotely. Then some say it works perfectly.
I added the ports on the rooter. Just to check if they are open I downloaded portchecker. (Pic added)
UDP 3389
Port is open.
TCP 3389
"Could not test port 3389 because some other application has that port locked. Please close any applications that may be using this port and try again."
Have no idea what application would be locking this port. If I go to canyouseeme.org the port is open and is not blocked by ISP.
Just to make sure I am doing rite:
Computer: Which IP do I use? My outside IP?
Username: This can be the one I am using to log into my computer or the full account name?
Password: password I'm using to log in
Domain: Leaving blank.
Anyone can help or sorted this issue out before?
Thanks
Suz
Remote Desktop Sorted..
Hi there..
Just wanted to add this in case someone else has the same issue.
If you have Vista Home Premium the Remote Desktop is disabled in the OS. You have to re-enable it using a hack.
This is the link which walks you through it hxxp://www.missingremote.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1220&Itemid=224
Once you finish this make sure that you have the port forwarding on your router for 3389.
If you do it should run. I noticed that my internet connection died once I was able to connect to my computer using my HTC HD2. Once I disabled the port forwarding the internet worked again.
It's rather difficult to navigate on your PC using your Phone without a stylus but hey I'd rather have this than missing some other stuff..
If you need help with the remote send me a pm. I know how frustrating this can be..

[SOLVED] Internet Sharing - no IP address - help please

I have an issue with my cooked ROMs for my Nike - I have done plenty of searching and have even replaced most (if not all) of my kitchen, but the issue still prevails.
Internet Sharing opens and connects without an issue - the PC gets a network card installed (remote ndis...etc), but I can't get it to receive an IP address from the phone, so therefore I can't use the internet sharing.
anyone got any ideas? it does it on COM2 and COM5 builds. I have recmodded the internet sharing folder, but this still has no effect. I have added a copy of the internet sharing folder so that it is installed last in the build and still nothing.
Thanks in advance
DT
So nobody else has this issue??
Tried just setting an IP for the pc on the pc?
Probably something like 192.168.0.x
tried that - wasn't sure of the DNS settings though - so can't browse, etc.
There must be a simple solution if nobody else is experiencing this - just wish I knew what it was.
thanks
DT
I would try testing the app with a different computer, i had a really stubborn Toshiba laptop (on winXP) that never obtained an IP address while it worked perfectly on my ubuntu laptop and win7 desktop.
If nothing prevails, you could try using the more advanced ICS Control or even WMWifiRouter
I had this issue for a long time and I don't know why Internet Sharing is connected with Advanced Network functionalities on my device and if it isn't active, the No IP situation pops up... take a look there...
I have the same problem on my Jade, so I use WMWIFIRouter, DHCP works prefecty...[/I]
Solved
The "Remote-NDIS Host" network adapter was not assigned an IP address, so I cooked in the address 192.168.0.1 and it is now working. Not sure why it wasn't there to begin with, but hey, it now works and I am a happy camper
Here is the reg entry that I added to my kitchen for anyone else who may have the same problem...
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\RNDISFN1\Parms\TcpIp]
"Subnetmask"=hex(7):32,00,35,00,35,00,2e,00,32,00,35,00,35,00,2e,00,32,00,35,00,\
35,00,2e,00,30,00,00,00,00,00
"IpAddress"=hex(7):31,00,39,00,32,00,2e,00,31,00,36,00,38,00,2e,00,30,00,2e,00,\
31,00,00,00,00,00

glad you got the solution to your problem.

WOL and the Captivate

Anyone out there using the Captivate to wake up a computer in a LAN segment using WOL? I tried a couple WOL applications from the market to test WOL while connected via WiFi to my LAN. My laptop connected to the same router is able to send WOL packets and wake up my server successfully, but my Captivate can not. Using Wireshark I can see only ARP requests from my Captivate when I try to send WOL packets to the my server. No magic packets. During the same capture session I also send WOL packets from my laptop and they arrive fine. I read somewhere about an issue with Android 2.1 and Network Masks other than 255.255.255.0 could this be the issue? I thought WOL relied on MAC addresses only... but maybe not.
I use the "Wake on Lan" app and works well.
Solved... removed and re-installed the WOL app and now an option to send the WOL packets as broadcast to the 255.255.255.0 subnet appears under settings. Checking this option solved the problem.

[Q] how to access phone with dyndns?

I downloaded a dyndns client http://l6n.org/android/dyndns.shtml from this site, the application seems to work properly.
A normal DSL connection has an assigned IP and fixed (at least for a certain period of time), and the network cellualare how it works?
I tried not to use the dyndns client and type in the address bar, the real IP, but equally I can not reach my phone (I see the IP assigned to the phone is rather odd and is something like 1.x.xx . xx).
Is there any solution?
Port forwarding may need to be enabled.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Hi
If you external ip address is 10.xx.xx.xx, there si no way to access your mobile from outside directly, but what you can do is creating remotly a tunnel and forward the ports you want to access.
Try ConnectBot, it does quite well the whole thing.
