Having problems finding/identifying the latest ROM upgrade for your HTC Phone Edition device? Here’s the solution and full explanation!
It has always been rather complicated to find HTC ROM’s, especially if you live in a “peripheric” country (for example, Eastern Europe) where official IMEI numbers are not necessarily accepted. (This is the case with, for example, Qtek and some Eastern European countries – even if you buy an absolutely legal Qtek device from Qtek’s resellers, you won’t necessarily be able to use its services to, say, access the ROM upgrade download section).
Fortunately, the Dutch (it also has an English section, so, don’t be afraid of the language) HTC-related Pocket PC Web site, HTC Club collected all the links to all the currently available latest HTC device upgrades HERE.
I’ve thoroughly scrutinized their list and was, in general, pleased. All the download links are valid and the links indeed point to the latest available ROM upgrade versions. Make sure, however, that you compare the version numbers (more on their identification in the next section) in the “ROM Update” and the “Country specific ROM Update ” column (if the latter has a WWE version) because, in some cases, the latter may have a never version than the former, as is the case with the Qtek 9100 ROM.
Identifying the version number of a given ROM upgrade installer EXE file
How can I decide the correct version of a HTC ROM upgrade? - you may ask probably the most frequently asked question. It’s not that complicated.

Hi,
This is my first post here. Please excuse me if I post in the wrong section, or if this is already asked.
I am borrowing a brand new HTC TyTN II, and I see this have a nice new Today screen with a big digital clock, a link to favourite persons, etc.
I think this might be called HTC Home, because it dissapears if I uncheck this in the Today Items list.
Question is:
- Is this an application that can be downloaded somewhere and installed on othe HTC devices?
- Will this only work on WM6 devices, or also on my old HTC P3600 WM5 device?
- If this is not possible to download, but embedded in the ROM, is there any easy way to "extract" this from the device I borrow? (could this be a CAB file that is in some hidden area on the phone)
Could someone please help me with these questions, or refer me to some links where this have already been discussed

Thanks for your answer.
I have downloaded and tested that several "Helmi" versions works OK on both my semidefekt (no sound/camera due to the fact that I have ripped those out to use on another phone) I-mate Jamin (with QTEK ROM) and my HTC P3600.
Both the 3 tab and 6 tab versions worked. For my P3600 all features seemed to work. Great!
Only some more questions about this:
a) The link you gave me contained a lot of pages, and a lot of sub links to other posts and versions. In fact it seems that there is very many versions of this plugin lying around on your and other similar sites.
It would be very nice if this tool could be added in the CAB archives page with a new clean post that lists what is the newest and most current version, and what version is for what phone, as it is quite difficult to follow all these pages lying around in the forum (which also is the reason why I reply in this post rather than in one of the many other existing ones).
Would this be something you eminent persons would consider?
b) I tried both the Helmi 3/6 tab versions and the Kaiser 5 tab versions. None of the Kaiser versions worked on my Imate JAmin/P3600, but I assume this is because the Kaiser versions obviously is intended for a different type of phone (or maybe it is WM6 they are intended for?)
Is this true?
c) If not, do these versions have any features that the Helmi versions don't have?
d) I tried these versions of the "Helmi" editions:
- HtcHome6_WM5_comp_sdkcert.cab (with the extra SDK_CERT.cab),
- HTCHomeWM56Tab.cab
- HtcHome6_WM5_comp.cab
They all had slightly different file sizes, and contained a bit different number of files/reg keys. So my question is: What is the newest and most stable version? (which version should I use?)
e) Are there other versions than these that are newer/better for the above mentioned phones?
As you see, I got a bit confused about all these pages. I got it working, so that is great, but if someone would bother to clarify these issues, and maybe even make a sticky post or add it to the CAB vaults, that would be even more great!

Ok, in the vein of DeadPhoenix, I am creating a new thread for the Sapphire ROM from Haykuro. His latest build is up to 6.0.1, and the original thread, along with the Shhhh thread have become so HUGE with junk that nobody could hope to find any important info.
Follow Haykuro here:
http://haykuro.theiphoneproject.org/
or
http://www.twitter.com/haykuro
He has updates for all his ROMs there, but you should be able to distinguish between the ones you are looking for.
Please post ONLY about Haykuro's Sapphire ROMs here.
EDIT 5/22/09 6:46pm EST
Haykuro has posted the most recent build to fix certain network issues. The build is 6.0r1 and can be downloaded here:
http://www.droiddeveloper.com/hrbuilds/6.0r1-signed.zip
Now for a little preventative measure...
PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING LINKS. IF YOU ARE ABOUT TO POST HERE, PLEASE MAKE SURE IF ONE OF THOSE THREADS IS MORE RELEVANT TO WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO POST, POST IT THERE INSTEAD
Haykuro is also well aware of the SPL "bricking" issue some of you are seeing. He has started a thread specifically to discuss the technical aspects of that problem in an effort to resolve it. That thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517593
If you are looking for info on the "Hero" build Haykuro has been working on, DeadPhoenix has graciously started a new thread to follow that will hopefully stay a little less cluttered:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517853
***********************************
EDIT - 5/23/09 - 2:48pm EST
Several users have reported issues with the Application Dock Tab being in the wrong place when in landscape mode. There is a fix posted by another user here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=518042
I'm not trying to be an ass but this thread already exists-

Exchange issue
This info may be elsewhere (in fact probably is), but is so buried deep in JUNK that any n00b or follower looking for it will have a hell of a time finding it. Thus the purpose of this new thread.
There seems to be an issue with Exchange being able to create an account in the 6.0 build. This seems to continue in the 6.01 build. Haykuro is aware of the issue and I'm sure is working towards a solution. Once the fix is available you will be able to hopefully find it easily in this thread.

Yes, but try to find a particular bit of info or just follow that thread of almost 700 posts. Most of which is praise for Haykuro and other useless babble (no offense, but the best form of praise is a Donation, and I don't see a need to post that you have donated (Haykuro will know).
I think what DeadPhoenix is trying to do with his thread (and myself with this one) is create a clean start to post ONLY relevant info.
If you feel I am wrong to doing so, then please feel free to report this thread. I will take no offense.
No worries. You make a good point. You should gather all of the information from Haykuros first post in that thread and put it here so its a little more tidy. Just a suggestion. That will hopefully make this a more n00b friendly thread.
Here's some info about that ROM. The auto-complete function with the slide out keyboard DOES NOT WORK. One of the very few (if not the ONLY) reason I am currently on JF1.5 and not that build.
Is there any problems reverting from the new SPL to HARDSPL?

I have not tried since my SPL installed fine, but capndoody claims to have done so. See his post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3818649&postcount=24
You may want to send him a very polite PM and ask.
Also, please see my link in the first post of this thread. There is a thread dedicated to SPL issues that Haykuro himself started.

There is something I am trying to understand. All of these posts and threads refer to the Magic, the Sapphire and the Hero, but isn't the version of Android what really matters in this differentiation? Like if I flash my G1 with Android 1.5, won't it still be a Magic? This being the case, I'd name the threads "Haykuro's Android 1.0 builds", "Haykuro's Android 1.5 (Cupcake) builds" and "Haykuro's Android 2.0 (Donut) builds", and then Eclair and beyond In fact, I bet at least 3/4 of the people flashing these are T-Mobile G1 owners. Am I wrong? Cause this whole HTC model talk is confusing to me and I am sure it will be just as confusing to those coming here for the first time looking for the latest and greatest Android O/S and build.
On an unrelated note (but still relevant to the thread), is the build Haykuro is currently working on and claims to be close to completing, a 1.5 build, meaning a replacement for 6.0r1? Or, how you'd call it, a Sapphire build?

The only info I have found regarding widgets is that some of the location-aware widgets (such as weather) are having problems correctly getting the location data via GPS.
Is there a particular widget you are having problems with? I am currently using the search, music, and retro clock/date widgets without any problems.

There are several 1.5 builds, by several developers. The "Hero" build is based on 1.5 that is customized for the HTC Hero upcoming phone. The "Sapphire" or "Magic" builds both refer to the 1.5 build that is ported to the G1 from the HTC Magic phone.
ok, since you have to have the spl to flash the new sapphire build, im guessing i can ask here w/o any trouble. can someone please refresh my memory as to how to install the new drivers?

Well, that's why I suggested to name the thread "Haykuro's...", just like you did. These are one developer's builds. But really, doesn't Haykuro (or the other developers) focus only on one build per version of the O/S? Yes, Haykuro used to keep the G build and the H build, but that is no longer the case. It seems he is now focusing on one build for 1.5 and one build for 2.0 and I personally do not care whether it was ported from device X or device Y as long as I can flash it on my G1. I mean, that's just the way I feel, but do appreciate your trying to start a fresh thread on Haykuro's Android 1.5 builds.
Can we make this clear, there are no 2.0 builds.
just found out: you can restore your nandroid backup for data (and even system) after applying the new spl
if you do this, remember to clear dalvik-cache using adb shell during the first boot. the phone may take a while to boot and you will see the welcome to android screen. skip all steps and you'll see your home screen slowly coming up. wait for another 5-10mins for internal clean up. you may notice that the phone application keeps crashing. this will go away after a reboot.
an advice for haykuro: since we have enough free space with the new spl, could you build the odex files for system apps like the old offcial release? this could save us some time and disk space.

It's my understanding that the Hero build is NOT 2.0/Donut. But there's another thread for that.
Monitoring this thread
Unfortunately, I have a life and cannot monitor this thread 24/7.
If anyone notices a post that does not belong here, please send a polite PM to the poster asking them to delete their post and direct them to the appropriate thread.

It's not just GPS. It's any location service. GPS flickers on and off, wont stay linked. Weather widgets that aren't set to manual can't pull My Location data because of this. This also affects the Google homepage since it uses My Location data as well.
Can a device catagory be created for this device? why is there one for the maple but not Cedar? it would make finding and diferenciating infromation eisier.
Why would You need a new category!
Is there anything that You can't find?
I think that it's easy to find a ROM or how to do SSPL, HardSPL etc.
All threads are nice categorized and include a device name like Ozone Verizon or CEDA.
