My wife is upgrading from a G1 to a MyTouch 3G. (i know i know, not a huge upgrade but her G1's touchscreen is going out and i had to do something for her).
Anyhow, her G1 is NOT rooted. The question is, is Mybackup Pro worth it. Will it work to transfer things from her G1 to her new MyTouch?
I run Titanium Backup (donate) on my Nexus, and the thing works wonders, but my Nexus One is rooted, and i have never tried Mybackup Pro (or trial/free).
Any comments?

It's worth the money. It'll let you back up everything (apps, contacts, ak notepad notes, texts, call logs, etc). A recent update also allows root users to backup market entries like titanium backup!
mybackup is amazing. I used it on my G1/MT3G and both were rooted. Without roots it can't backup the apps too well. It does back them up but when you reinstall them the market dosn't see them so you still have to redownload them through the market to get updates.
But as far as your data goes, that works perfectly. I'm still using mybackup with my nexus for data little data backups and then titanium for full backups
Just remember the free version doesn't allow you to restore settings to a different phone.
I use the paid version an it works as well as any other backup solution I've found. Don't expect anything to work 100% though. I find selective restores the best approach whichever app I use.

Okay, so i have the pro version of titanium backup.
Is it worth buying MyBackup pro to use on a NON-rooted phone (specifically a NON rooted G1, moving to a NON rooted MyTouch 3G)?
In other words, for a NON rooted phone, does MyBackup pro, do anything more, or better, then Titanium Backup would do on a NON rooted phone?

In short, no I don't think it makes any difference on a NON rooted phone. Actually I don't think it even makes a difference on rooted phones now (MyBackupPro didn't used to support root functions but does now).

Can I easily migrate & keep my Nexus One settings & data & apps to Nexus S?
Hi, I have a Nexus One running CM7, rooted.
If I switch to a Nexus S, can I easily migrate everything across. I really hate having to start from scratch with all my elaborate settings, apps, data, etc.
Any way I can do this as easily as upgrading iPhones allows?
And can I root the Nexus S to allow it?

No. Not possible as far as I know...
Also how are you flashing CM7 on your NS if your NOT ROOTED?? (I'm referring to your "and can I root the Nexus S to allow it" comment...
You might've misread. I said I have a Nexus ONE currently, which is rooted.
Want to know if the Nexus 'S' can be rooted.
In theory, if I root the S, then install CM7, why couldn't I transfer my internal data of my Nexus ONE CM7 to the Nexus S CM7? It's the same OS.

No I understood you perfectly. When you root the NS and unlock the bootloader your phone will be wiped. When you install cm7 you will have to set everything up from scratch.
It's NOT the same. They have the same name..THAT'S IT. EVERYTHING ELSE IS DIFFERENT!
Don't phrase your questions in a way that lead to the first comment I left and you won't run into comments like mine oh and FYI I also have BOTH THE NEXUS ONE AND THE NEXUS S SO I'M SPEAKING, FROM, EXPERIENCE
Your apps are synced to your Google account. They will sync up after you sign in to your new phone with your Google account. It will bring over apps, wallpaper, and a few settings like WiFi networks and passwords. App data like what level of Angry Birds you are on will not carry over.

I'm confused though because apps like MyBackup Pro claim to be able to migrate ALL your data between different versions of Android.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Nexus S can be rooted quite easily, there are a number of guides in the Android Development section of the forums.
As for transferring everything I'm doubtful, but what is it exactly that you need to transfer? Apps come automatically from sync, contacts as well, and photos and music you can just copy over.
I'm talking about all my customized settings for many many apps, and ringtones, home screens, widgets, alarms, dictionary, ringtones for contacts, website passwords, Car Home screens, that sort of thing.
Any backup program that can migrate these from the One to the S?
I'm pretty sure migrating your apps is as easy as using something like titanium backup and then simply copying all the backups onto your computer and then transfering it to your nexus s when you get it. You can simply run a restore of your non system apps. Not sure if you'll have problems restoring all your data, maybe you might run into some problems there, but at least you won't be starting from scratch.
As for ringtones/wallpapers etc, just move em over.. and it honestly doesn't take that long to set up widgets and set up your homescreens.
I know apps and such are backed up through Google, but some had to be re-installed. There are a few things you might have to do, but not much.

Would this work?
Nandroid backup your Nexus One setup.
Flash CM7 on Nexus S.
Transfer Nexus One Nandroid to Nexus S.
Advance restore Data only.

not sure that would work.
but what WOULD work i think, just use titanium backup on your n1. backup all user and system apps. then take that SD card which contains all the backed up data, copy it to your nexus s mass memory. install cm7, then restore using titanium backup. user data should restore no problem.
Think I read something in Titanium Backup"s latest changelog about "reorganization of app data between different devices" . You might want to look into this.
i also moved from n1. once logged in with the same google acc most apps installed to my new ns automatically except those downloaded from other sources, that have to be done manually. and i use tb to recover old app data and settings.
Thanks (almost) everyone!
The touchscreen issues on my Sensation are getting pretty damn annoying, I'm going to exchange it today and see if the new unit is any better. However, is there any way I can backup my data and stuff like text messages and application data? I don't want to lose progress in my games or the various settings I have in my applications. I'd really like to be able to restore it somehow to my new Sensation.
I know you can do this with Titanium but we don't have root yet so I need another way to do this. Many people here have exchanged this phone already so how do you guys backup all your files/data?
Try my backup pro, it will backup everything except apps, without root, not sure about app dada tho...

It won't do app data, which is the only thing that sucks without root. Pretty much SOL. But you can backup your text, settings, call logs on the new one with MyBackUp, which gives you a 30day tiral.
Even better lol!

that 30 day trial is just one 1 device though. I'm guessing for if you want to flash a new ROM. I made sure to inquire with the dev on that. If you backup with the trial it will not restore on a new device
The Boss Lady and I have DIncs that I rooted using Unrevoked's method. She just got a new Charge and I want to make her transition between phones as painless as possible.
I backed up her messages, contacts, apps, and data with Titanium Backup and would really like to copy the backup to the Charge's SD card and restore them there.
Oh, she wants to keep the phone as stock as possible (no custom ROM). Just get it rooted so I can get the access needed to take care of biz on the Charge.
So here come the questions:
1. If I use Odin to (temporarily, I know) flash a custom recovery like Cyanogenmod and use that to flash SU, will that get us root access on subsequent reboots?
2. Has anyone been able to backup messages, contacts, apps, and data on a rooted DInc, using TiBU and restore them on a Charge?
3. I have noticed a lot of mentions of ED1, ED2, and EE4. What's the difference between them and do I need to be careful about these differences in what I plan to do in 1?
Thanks
Oh, and pointing me to threads instead of rehashing explanations are fine by me!

1. the recovery is CWM or ClockWorkMod and yes you can Odin it and if you flash superuser it will give you permanent root access until you wipe the phone or Odin something else
2. Backups from one phone to another through TiBu should be fine, as long as no system data is backed up... if you want to make backups of phone numbers just export a copy of your phonebook to your sd card (easier that way and it'll always be on your sd card in case of data loss), and use Titanium Backup to restore apps/data (not any system data though) and everything else (probably not settings either)
3. ED1 was the version of 2.2 Froyo that the Charge shipped with, ED2 is an update, and EE4 is the latest up to date official version that is on stock phones... you'll notice most, if not all, Froyo roms are EE4 based

Yeah, ClockWorkMod. You'd think that after 30+ years of developing software I'd be better at keeping nomenclature straight.

It might also be worth noting that under what I would consider"normal" usage, the serious charge devours battery life... It's very common after a full charge (see what i did there?) To fully drain it in about 6 hours time without changing settings...
My definition of normal is maybe an hour of total talk time per day, texting constantly, receiving email, browsing the web a few times, maybe snapping a picture or two, downloading an app, playing one round of a game like angry birds, and letting it stay on 4g/3g without switching to wifi...
Today is different, as I have left wifi on all day, use google voice to make and receive calls on wifi, and done more than what ki just described and I am running over twelve hours of battery...and am still at 35%...
Just my two cents...

Hey I'm really glad Samsung found out these phones have a problem. But I got my phone working smooth as silk and they say I got to give it back. This is the my first android phone that I haven't rooted (5th phone). Which means no way to use Titanium Backup. So I'm back to my backup pro and maybe Samsung backup who or whatever will get the job done. Now if Best Buy let me take my replacement home so I could use Smart switch that would be great. But this is not a perfect world which is why I have to return my wonderful phone.
So my question is how are you going to set your new notes backup? Do you have an easy way for doing this or are you getting something else. NOT!! Share your thoughts.
This might not answer your question but what im planning to do it start fresh. I dont like backups. All my game data are saved with google account. My contacts are in google account also. Ill download the rest of the programs from play store and start fresh. I dont care about text messages. I dont need to save them for future use.
i think Samsung cloud work just fine along with google backup.

This, and I use Helium backup (paid version). Helium can be kind of finicky, but it does work. Backed up all my games and most everything else.
Before I rooted I backup up everything, then rooted. Ran the phone that way for awhile, but my Gear S didn't work so I backed up everything with Helium, Titanium and Smart Switch, then unrooted.
My Helium backups restored fine.
Probably overkill doing all this, but some of my games I have been playing for years. Don't want to lose that data.
I will reroot when i can and then just restore with tb

Well lucky fir me i hadn't wiped my note 4 yet. I did use every backup method available to me and still lost some stuff.
I returned my note 7 last night. I am so sad. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE this note 4 now. Hard to believe only what 2 weeks and the note 7 had already changed my perspective of what i need in a phone. I would gone to an lg or nexus but neither of those are any better than the note 4 which i already own. Gues im lucky we hadn't sold them already ha ha ha. I miss my phone. . I hope it isn't gone long. I miss fingerprint and samsung pay. I reallly miss the much smaller and better feeling in my hand. This note 4 now feels do big and clunky and the fingerprint not working the first time drives me crazy.
Please hurry and give us our phones back. .

Hey. So today I massively effed up and caused my phone to go into a non-repairable bootloop. After flashing my ROM I managed to get it back, but then the encryption got screwed and I ended up erasing all of my data. Not too bad because I had a back up. Except I didn't... Samsung Cloud did a **** job at preserving anything, I lost a TON of stuff and have to reinstall everything.
Anyhow, I've come to the conclusion that neither Samsung nor Google offer a stable, steady or reliable backup system (Google pretty much only re-downloads app from Play which is... nice... I guess). That is the ONLY thing I miss from iPhones, but I digress...
Does anyone have a good, solid and trustworthy alternative for automatic backups that would actually keep my ****? I know I can do it manually, but I tend to forget and I don't want the hassle of dealing with multiple apps and connections and whatnot.
Any suggestion welcome.
Thanks!
Titanium backup PRO is probably the best suited to your requirements, but requires root.
Here's a decent overview on it: https://www.lifehacker.com.au/2011/...automated-app-and-settings-backup-on-android/
Also their website https://www.titaniumtrack.com/titanium-backup.html which mentions scheduled backups in the pro section
If you have TWRP you could also do nandroid backups but it's all manual.

Thanks for the suggestion. I definitely know how powerful Titanium is, but the issue is that I was going to retire from rooting and custom recoveries; it's what got me into this mess to start with. Plus, aside from using Titanium I really had very little day to day use for root and pretty much none that I absolutely couldn't do without, so I decided to just stop messing with it.
I find it infuriating that there is no decent backup system that doesn't require root; it seems like the most basic service to have! Sometimes I wonder if my account is not to blame because Google backup seems to say it keeps app data, passwords and such, yet I NEVER get any of it back... But enough *****ing, back to searching.
