As the latest rogers EBI1 radio that is required so they do not kill your 3g connection sucks terribly (requires daily restarts so you don't drop your network connection). I'm curious if it would be possible to modify the radio.img to present whatever version to the network you wanted. This way for example you would take the latest t-mobile radio and modify it to the rogers version #.
1) Would this work?
2) If you flash via fastboot is this safe?
3) Is there some way to peak inside this .img file? Is it a file system?
Thanks!
(For the record i've been fighting with them for days to sign the waiver but my IMEI isn't recognized for some reason)
Id be wary of flashing a radio.img that has been modified, it interfaces with all the hardware and source will never be available for it... its obvious that breaking it could result in a brick. I'm normally not reluctant to flash anything, but f*cking this up would require a jtag... probably not worth doing. Not impossible though.
*CAN*, but not advisable.
Replacing the actual version string in the file is basically trivial. The problem is in determining what kind of security there exists to protect the device from someone tampering with the radio image. It is very likely that there are a whole bunch of checksums protecting the thing, and possibly a HARD BRICK will be triggered by having a checksum off.
And note that the existing common bricks I would refer to as SOFT bricks since they are basically failed recovery boots.
By HARD BRICK, I mean something like blowing a fuse that will prevent even JTAG from working.
ALSO NOTE: even withOUT having such a self-protection mechanism, we don't have the knowledge required to be able to deal with a dead radio. The current use of JTAG is just in manipulating a WORKING radio in order to disable some security (no, disabling this security wont help here....) If you kill your radio, you are basically dead.
Also important to note:
Robbers has a 911 opt-out form. 911 service will still work, but it basically says that you won't hold them responsible if you dial 911 and your phone suddenly reboots rather than dialing. Because of this, there is really NO REASON to bother with such a modification. Just run through the opt-out form and install 2.22.19.26.

The radio is signed and checked by the radio on flash; (The SPL does not flash it directly)
Also it is not a nand dump but a full firmware image for the radio side of the device; spread across multiple radio partitions;
With JTAG it may be possible to load an unsigned radio (certainly there seems to be some code to load unsigned radios if something is unlocked) but its reading this separate from the other locks .. Without a exploit however we will not be able to force this w/o JTAG.
Also you ought to note I find CM much more tolerant to the drops then the official rogers firmware (which dropped much more frequently)
Also usually turning airplane mode on.. then off returns the phone to normal operation.......
Thanks for the info, I guess its not worth it/not something we know much/anything about. The reason I was asking was due to the frustration of dealing with rogers over the last few days. I would happily sign the HTC waiver however it won't accept my IMEI for some reason. I've supposedly got a ticket in level 2 regarding this issue now and I was just promised it would be fixed by tomorrow morning so we shall see.
Regarding the 3.XX radio firmware, it does work for me of course but it tends to get into its confused state often, usually once a day or more, at this point the phone thinks its happily connected with 3-4 bars but try to call the phone and it goes to voicemail. I think the radio issue has something to do with switching towers/weak signals, it always seems to happen to me when i'm moving from one area to another (driving) or when i'm an area where service is available but weak (eg in my office @ work). This results in people complaining they can't reach me etc, and while yes it is easy enough to just airplane mode or use 2g/3g flag to fix it, if my phone is in my pocket and I don't know that's not much help. With the latest 2.XX version radio I've had no issues with dropping reception at all the only problem of course is that my data has been dead since about 6hours after I flashed the radio.
I am for the record running CM.
Interesting. I'm glad you posted this, I don't know if this applies to others as well but lately, I've noticed my signal sucking horribly. I rarely (almost never) have a full bar of signal anymore and sometimes, people call me and directly hit voicemail (I'm outside in the open, in the city where it SHOULD WORK FINE). The thing that pisses me off most, is when I'm trying to surf the net and sometimes, it lags or shows 1 bar and is really slow. Most of the time now, it shows 2-3 bars which is lame. I'm using the 3.22 instead of the 6.35 on the magic. Perhaps I'll give 6.35 a try again.. but I already signed the waiver so I don't want to now! ughh

Happens to me often as well. Fortunately though, I've only had a call drop once so far
A friend of mine w/ a 3GS has complained about the same problem. For reference we are in ottawa.

Um.. probably but who knows if any kernel/rom/recovery is prepared for a dream with a hero radio. . And we do have some reports of issues of magic owners downgrading back to the ebi1 kernel.
The other question is it actually the new 3x radio that is less stable or is it related to something on the rogers network since the 911 patch enforcement. Since as I said the official firmware also drops regularly. (More than the custom rom on the same phone)
I definitively would not rule out rogers as a problem given as i reported a friend of mine with a 3GS is complaining of the same odd issues. That said, i have no issues with the 2.xx firmware. Coincidentally, if i set the 3.x firmware to 2G only, the issue does not seem to happen either.
Oh I know this is irrelevant but I hate rogers.
Rogers/Fido is the only provider has 2G service in Canada...
I tried Bell/Telus and 3G drops even worse than Rogers...
EDGE is much more stable for IM chatting
Every single time when I across DVP/404 3G will drop for sure but EDGE doesnt...
Although Wind Mobile singal is really bad but they never drop if you have strong signal!
FYI still fighting w/ rogers to fix their waiver so i can sign it.

Hi guys, first post on the forums... so be a little patient, I hope I am in the right place.
I bought a used att Tilt last night and it came with windows mobile 6.1 already on it. I threw my sim card in there and it kept dropping signal. it would have signal for one minute and then lose it for a minute and then get it back. anyways I figured it was a botched install or something so I went to HTC's website and flashed the 6.1 update they have there.
RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_1.62.502.0
now it runs a lot faster and except it wont allow me to call out/connect to the internet or anything.
I do have 4 bars and it says I am connected to the ATT network but something isn't right.
if you guys could help me out that would be great but I am a little new to this so bear with me.
Does your SIM still work in your old phone? and can you receive calls(you only stated you can't call out)
does the signal keep popping in and out and the radio signal strength icon (where the bars usually are) have an exclamation mark when you have no signal?
if that is the case, i dont know the fix, but ive had two devices do the same thing. both would exhibit the same behavior with stock 6.1/6.0/many customs and many radio versions, spl 3.28/29/56 and 1.0, and returning them to stock. i still have one of them and was going to return it for service. i thought i might have been the evil radio problem, but it took every flash i threw at it and still had the same problem.
this is all with my sim that works in my two current kaisers/moto q/bj2/bb 8310 etc...
havent been able to figure it out...
When you go into BootLoader (Hold Power and Camera buttons and use stylus to push reset button) what does it say?
have you tried fashing a new radio?

Hi all,
First time poster, long time lurker I'd just like to say thanks to everyone in the community. You guys rock.
That said, I am having a minor issue with my G1. I have T-Mobile & my phone is SIM unlocked (I don't know if that would make a difference) and currently running JFv1.5 with the latest radio (2.22.19.26I). The problem is that when I disconnect from a wireless network, my data connection to T-Mobile doesn't pick back up. When I go into Call Settings / Network Operators I let it search for networks and sometimes my phone will have to Re-Register on T-Mobile and other times it will say that its already registered to T-Mobile but the data connection still won't work. The only thing I've found to solve that is a reboot of the phone.
This has happened a few random times when I was on RC33 and one of the Haykuro builds but it has become more frequent since I've updated to JFv1.5. Also, I dunno if it helps to mention but I went to a T-Mobile store earlier this week & swapped out the SIM card with a new one and have gotten the same results.
Is anyone else having this problem? I've searched to no avail and was curious. Thanks.
dissconnect
That's just typical crappy T Mobile service have the same prob here since I'm not close to a T Mobile tower when it loses web access it dumps the connection to reconnect
So that's it? I should chock this up to my carrier's signal being ****ty in random places? No one else has had this issue at all?

I am having this issue. Never had a problem until I updated the radio to the latest version
I have had the new radio since the JF build with cupcake. My signal was great until yesterday. It will go from the lowest to highest in the case of the bar. When I reboot my phone it takes much longer to connect to the network. BUT I think my issue is with the fact my market (Columbus, Ohio) was rumored to get 3G by this june. So I am guessing its just TMobile doing the upgrades and whatever they need to do to impliment the 3G rollout.
lately ive been having horrible service. dont know if it has to do with the new LX being released.
Hi,
I am on 5.02h and was having random disconnects on .26 radio.
I went back to .22 saffaire radio and my connection is more stable now.
I am not sure if others have experienced this as well.
I have flashed my phone yesterday with latest from Haykuro with CUPCAKE. (NO SD APPS)
Phone is running a little slower and I started having the issues with the DATA connection.
In the middle of the Web page loading, the phone looses data connection and I am only left with ability to use voice. The data connection comes back in a few minutes and same thing happens as soon as start using the data connection again.
I do not know if previously stable connection at my location all of a sudden became bad or the new build is causing this.......
just to add
Not to dissenlighten people here but t mob has crappy serivce to rural areas. I myself live in brunswick md usa. I have had. 2 bars since I first got this phone with rc30 with constant dumps to no signal all the time when it upgraded to rc33 still the same thing. Then I rooted my to jf rc33 still the same thing. After that I used jf 1.5 and it still craps out. When I go 20 mins to the north to frederick,md I get full bars and no dissconnects so if it where a radio issue there would have been some kinda difference between radio updates. I myself am a ham operator so I should know how radio signal works so when I chock it up to t mobs crappy service I do not do this lightly since the nearest tower is 20 mins either way from me. People need to stop blaming other peoples builds for this issue since the radio update is from google. If I pop a att sim I get full bar and no dissconnects cause the tower they use is closer that's how I know it's a t mob problem not an issue with the radio. Remember troubleshooting is the best way to see where the problem is. Till t mob puts up more towers and fixxes the packet loss to the phone to remedey this then we will all have crappy service which does not seem to be in the near future for anyone.
I had a similar problem when I was on stock RC30. I called in to tech support and they set up a new APN on the phone so it would switch back to EDGE faster if I lose the wifi connection. I would suggest if you're not around stable wifi, just turn it off.
First off, this is a complaint post. I truley grateful for you cooks, and programmers at this site. The following is just my observations (for better and for worse) on how this hard-spl affected me. The rhodium is my fourth smartphone that ive owned and unlocked from this site, so i slightly experineced with the unlock proccess (the mda, g1, and the kaiser). Although with this device, however the results of this hspl crack is most intriguing.
Lets start with..
The Good - For the most part its free. This means the gift of being able to try out other peoples roms is something anyone can enjoy. This is what xda is all about, or atleast this is what we cherish the most.
The Bad - Right after I installed oplix hspl and flashed my new rom, the camera doesnt want to load. It either the "data frame" message or the "driver" error. I trying everything except "relock" the hspl (flashed stock rom, stock radio, hard resets, that mitty wipe, camera cabs, registry edits,) . Im no expert, but some thing tells me its that Olinix. Does anybody know if this could be one of those "know issues" that sometimes happen with the verizon version?
The Ugly? -
Well, uglys not really the best word... atleast not yet. You see I realized just today, every since I sim-unlocked my phone (although not CID unlock) I discovered the most suprising thing, Free Data access! And no im not refering to Opera mini, im talkin about pocket twitter, facebook, youtube (low quality only), opera mobile, PIE, htc weather, the whole enchilada.
Now for all you people thinking this sounds too good to be true, well your right. There is one major flaw with the data stream, which i will get to later. First let me describe my exact circumstance to achive this oddity.
My rhodium is verizon. Its sim unlocked (but not security unlocked!), and im using a Tmobile prepaid sim with the sidekick plan. There is a balance of 0$ on my account, and it hasnt been active for a couple months. I have oplix hspl and a Mighty Rom installed. I deleted the verizon apn from connection settings and made a new one with the T-mobile apn, but i still named it Verizon anyways cuz im weird like that... After experimentation, i found out that it only works with the radio in Global mode. Good thing with a US sim inserted, the phone always defaults to GSM mode anyways... or atleast it does for me Under these conditions, I still get data access despite the fact that the sidekick plan doesnt include data access, and also the fact that THERES NO MONEY in my prepaid account.
Ok now to the ugly: The Catch. As i said before there is a catch to the "free data". That is its nowhere near 3g speeds, even for tmobile standards. Its like 8mbs/hr download speeds (using IE, not Opera mini). I know that seems horrid but theres a lot of things on you phone that requires a data plan (if no wifi available) thats very low bandwitdh. That social app updates, email sync, weather update, casual browsing, low quality youtube stream if desperate enough. Lets face it, we cant be surrounded by wifi all the time; so even getting dail-up_ish data access for free could be use be nice.
Just for the heck of it, heres my theroy why the bandwitdh is so slow. It seems to me that its due to constant interruption. For expamle when i go to google from IE, the web page seems to load a bit then stop 1/3 of the way. This Tmobiles server restricting access, and usually the browser would just quit after a couple of seconds. But for some reason it looks like the phones radio "reboots" just before the browser would normally time-out, and therefore able to "steal" another 1/3 of web page from the apn again and again. This play between APN and radio isnt too obvious and some may just pass it off as just a really low bandwitdh service.
This is very freaky behavior. Ever since Tmobile "secured" their sidekick prepaid data access to only sidekicks, i have not been able (with the exception of opera mini) access data from tmobiles hiptop APN. I wonder what make this device so special? Is because its a world phone? or are the newer radio patches able to reconnect faster? Well anyways am i the only one who noticed this, or am I losing it?
you're blaming the wrong people, t-mobile and at&t run on different gsm bands here in the states. you'll get 3g speeds in any country but not north america.
Not a single one of your complaints has anything to do with the Hard SPL. The camera access is determined by the software drivers in the ROM. Ask about it in the thread of whatever ROM you are using.
The 3G access for T-Mobile(1700/2100) is on a completely different frequency than your Verizon(800/1900) device. This is defined by the hardware, not the software. There is no "radio patch" to allow such a thing. You will never get more than EDGE speeds on the Verizon TP2 on T-Mobile's network. Just enjoy your free data access.

Im not too sure about that because I havent been able to get the camera working with ANY rom - and i tried a dozen already, even stock. I guess the only way for me to rule out my theroy, would be to take out hspl and reload official rom and radio. Im a little hesitant about that since you only get one free unlock from olinex, so im on the fence still.

Well, the icon at top is "E" symbol which i assume is for edge, because while commuting it would change to the "G" which i presume is a step below edge. Is this just a glitch in the WM OS?

If it isn't working on the stock ROM, then you've very likely got a defective device. Hard SPL has nothing to do with the camera. Set it back to stock everything and do a warranty exchange/repair if you still have time. Check with HTC to see when it will expire if it hasn't already. You normally get 15 months from HTC on a brand new device.

Why would that be a glitch? The service is determined by whatever the tower has. If the tower you're connected to has EDGE service, it will say EDGE. If it has only GPRS, then it will say GPRS. You will never be able to 3G from T-Mobile on the Verizon model. The hardware does not have the capability.

Agh, I cant take it anymore. Im gotta rule out the possiblity once and for all. Im going to revert hspl, radio, rom back to stock. Ill report back with the results... crossing my fingers!
I have no idea how this happened, but here goes explaining it. I was running latest Cataclysm Rom w/ latest faux kernel. I was browsing the web through LTE when I wanted to SMS someone. After a few minutes the SMS failed. Then a few minutes later I got no signal. Restarted, Got LTE although under service state it says out of service and unknown mobile network type. After 20 seconds Got no signal, this happens every time now when I restart. Flashing back to factory settings didn't fix anything. I am now very bummed out. I don't think it's the carrier (aio) since if there were a service outage anyone with AT&T would have problems too. There's also the possibility that the magnet on the name tag to my work shirt could have very well played a part, although I doubt it since I don't hold the phone that high. I contacted Google on their support page, but I probably should look into LG's warranty, which likely won't cover it. So....
How can I fix my radio?
If I can't fix it within my means, how can I get it fixed?
Are you able to add an APN?
Your cache.img could be corrupt. Try and flash the stock cache.img from the stock image.

Hmm. Here's the weird thing though - when I first got my phone to a carrier I would have service, but no internet access when I didn't add an APN. In the phone's state that it was in, I already flashed the APN like normal and worked. But now, it has no signal to work with, so even adding an APN would be pointless if it isn't connecting to -any- network.
I ran wugfresh's nexus root toolkit to run the complete stock process. I even re-locked the bootloader in case I have to ship it somewhere. Watching the stock flash process, I did see it flash everything without failiure from the official 4.4 stock image, but didn't fix it. I'm starting to think it's a hardware failure, since the radio does the same thing every time I reboot it regardless of what rom, kernel, bootloader, baseband, etc. I throw at it (connects to LTE for a few secs, goes into no signal).
What other options could I do to remedy this?
EDIT - Google has already responded and sounds like they could send me a replacement device, not certain yet but here's hoping.
I'm experiencing this same issue you described in your previous post. I think there's an outage in Northwest Ohio for Aio Wireless, or AT&T altogether. I don't see anything on twitter or google, so I'm not sure if it's just me, or it is affecting many users. I noticed it when I was on a phone call with a family member and the call dropped. When I tried to call back, my signal kept bouncing between LTE to no signal, back to LTE, and no signal. Now it says I don't have anything at all. If I search for mobile networks, it reconnects me to LTE and I can surf the web, run speed tests, but if I try to SMS or call someone, it drops my signal again.
I'm thinking the network is down for voice, but not so much data.
Did you try flashing your carrier's radio?
Team Nexus 5 sucks
Hey everybody:
This is kind of a last gasp for me. My HTC One S suffers from the usual that you read about - "Preparing SIM" messages, constant error reports on bootup, random reboots. I honestly hate the phone.
So I installed a custom ROM. I unlocked the bootloader via HTCDEV, then I used the 12/20/13 CM11 (KitKat 4.4.2) with the 12/15 GAPPS.
The phone worked OK except now I was able to see what I've read about, and probably unknowingly experienced with the stock ROM, and that is the phone constantly flipping between Edge, 2g, HSPA, HSPA+, etc.
So, I decided to try a new radio. Did it a million times on my old G2. In order to get S-OFF to update it, I used the RLL to bring it back to stock Jelly Bean, then Moonshine to set S-OFF, SuperCID'd, and restored it with CWM. Then I installed the 1.20.x radio and at that point, all heck breaks lose with the data network connectivity and even cell signal. I might have no cell or data signal. I might have a cell signal with Edge. If I get up and move, it might go to HSPA, then I might lose everything again. This is much more pronounced than what I witnessed when I first installed the CM11 ROM.
I've tried reflashing the original 1.13 radio and it's no better. I went back to the 1.20 radio and even wiped and reflashed CM11 and GAPPS from scratch. Still very inconsistent data connectivity, so I'm not necessarily convinced it's the version of the radio because they're both pretty darned bad including the original version.
Has anybody been through this and gotten it straightened out? This is strange that even going back to the old 1.13 radio doesn't seem to help.
Thanks for any ideas...

Who is your carrier? If it is TMOUS you will probably need to make some adjustments to your /system/build.prop file. When I flash a new ROM I have to make the following additions/changes before my data connectivity is stable:
Code:
pm.sleep_mode=1
ro.ril.hsdpa.category = 24
ro.ril.hsupa.category = 6
ro.ril.hsxpa = 4
ro.ril.radio.svn=19
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule = 0
The setting "ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=1" probably already exists in the file, so it will either need to be edited or removed. The other settings should not exist.
The changes that actually allow the phone to maintain a data connection (as I recall) are "ro.ril.radio.svn=19" and "ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule = 0". "pm.sleep_mode=1" allows the CPU to completely power off, and the "ro.ril.h*" settings set max speeds for different data connections. I'm going off of what I've culled from various posts and forums, so I may be off the mark on some of my descriptions.
Here's one post briefly talking about these settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48276115#post48276115
You will need root access and your /system partition will need to be remounted as read-write to make the changes. Ask or search if you need help with those. Of course if you're not on TMOUS, then I have no idea...
Yes, T-Mobile US is my carrier. There's another thing I found. If it go into the phone's testing facility (*#*#4636*#*#), I notice that it's set to WCDMA preferred. If I set it to WCDMA Only and give it a few, it does go to an HSPA/HSPA+ connection. However, that setting appears to be lost between restarts.
What I don't get is that when I first flashed the CM11 ROM, I at least had the intermittent E/2g/3g/HSPA connections. How, if I go into that testing facility, it is stuck on Edge (and more consistent since my last flash). I will read the thread you provided a URL to. Thanks very much!

OK, I did these build.prop edits. Unfortunately, they've gotten me nothing. Then I went and investigated them a bit more and tried two other minor changes to build.prop (one of your parameters and added another). I'm still stuck on the Edge network. If you do a lookup, you'll see plenty of others. I think this phone is pretty much worthless - as it's been from day one. It will be my last HTC phone. By contrast, my old G1 and G2 are still working. There are tons of reports about One S phones suffering serious issues like this.
I appreciate your help and certainly, if anybody has a eureka moment, I'd love to hear about it. For the time being, I'll most likely see about getting my old G2 reactivated. Others have reported that the only way they've gotten this fixed is sending it back to HTC under warranty. Mine is out of warranty, which is the only reason I decided I'd do it. It was such a bad phone, I had nothing to lose. The next one I buy will most likely be the Moto X.
Thanks again for the help. I absolutely appreciate it.

Yes, T-Mobile US is my carrier. There's another thing I found. If I go into the phone's testing facility (*#*#4636#*#*), I notice that it's set to WCDMA preferred.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I'm still fairly new to this phone, but I quite like it. I suppose I've been more fortunate than others in that I haven't had any real problems with it.
It's not a problem and I'm grateful for you trying. The information you provided was also interesting from a learning perspective.
I reran the RUU on it, just to see if it would make any difference. This made it so I USUALLY have 2g connectivity, but that's as far as it goes and it's not good enough. I have lost that at times, but for the main part, it's consistent with 2g.
T-Mobile is sending me a new SIM to get my old G2 reactivated. While it's only about a quarter of the One S speed, it'll suffice. Unfortunately, the SIM it had couldn't be used because too much time had elapsed since the phones last use. That should be here Monday and that particular phone was WAY more tolerant of different images and radios (knock on wood!). It's currently running a Jelly Belly image of Android 4.2.2 (if I remember), so this should be interesting.
As for my HTC One S, I'll most likely give it to my son to use for games and media. With nothing more than 2g speeds, it's worthless to me. This phone has been a complete and utter piece of garbage since the day I got it. It's funny that my excellent experience with the T-Mobile G1 and G2 by HTC was my reason for buying the One S over a Samsung model. Now that phone is the reason I won't be getting another HTC. Strange how that works.
Again, thanks VERY much for the help!

Weird, I had a desire z (same phone as g2) and it had really bad reception while holding it. Would lose all signal in the house. All my other phones used have been fine and pretty well equal - nexus one, desire hd, one s, my girlfriend's iPhone are all about the same.
This summer at a cottage my sister gs3 had no service all week, same network and the one s and iPhone
4s both could squeak some signal if you didn't touch them. A slight edge going to the iPhone most of the time I think.
Probably either a radio issue with that phone on your provider or defective hardware?

It's not the provider (T-Mobile). My wife's Samsung has 4g here in the house - no issues. I took the One S out and had 2g everywhere. It's the phone.
I'm also guessing it's most likely the radio, as in a bad chip. Once you try to burn a new firmware into it, it finishes it off. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly no engineer. It may or may not be that, or may be WAY more involved. Some people said the only way they got it fixed was by HTC replacing the main board.
The phone was a POS even before installing a custom ROM. Random reboots, constant startups with messages asking if I wanted to report the errors to HTC, random instances of NO data connectivity and then a message saying the phone is "Preparing the SIM card". I finally realize now that the occasional drops I would get while working remotely in Mexico (using a Movistar SIM) were most likely a result of this thing losing it's data connectivity while "Preparing the SIM card." The issues with this phone and the fact that it was out of warranty were the only reasons I took a chance on installing a custom ROM.
I'm sorry that I most likely sound like I'm ranting. However, I've searched all over and found SO MANY issues with this phone, that there's no way they should NOT have been recalled. Even T-Mobile told me there were many reported issues with these things. Both companies failed their customers.

Here in Canada we don't even have 2g on Telus, Bell, virgin mobile and koodo (I am on Telus), so the several phones that seem to have network problems on 2g or switching back And forth only have those issues on Rogers/fido or the small carriers like wind.
A guy I knew from highschool years ago works at fido and I remember him telling me last year this phone had some reception issues.
When telus had this phone on their website still they had pretty well all 5 star reviews. So my phone would probably be a piece of **** on a 2g/3g network too luckily they work perfectly on hspa only.

Interesting. It's nice to have the option in the case of there ONLY being Edge/2g/3g service available, but not to be stuck on it when HSPA is there.

True, at least around here though the amount of area without service for Telus/bell or Rogers seems to be pretty equal. So I'm happy not to have the issues with switching between 2g, 3g and LTE. It's hspa or hspa I guess.
