Hey I did this hack which was said to increase 3g/2g speeds:
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/build.sapphire.prop /system/build.sapphire.prop
the speed didnt really change much, but what i noticed sometimes was that after i did this hack my data connection is not there at all even if the signal bar says i have a full signal?? idk whats up??
How can I undo this hack??
can someone help??
XDA seriously needs an 1D 10T test.

lolol.. Exactly the reason it should replace the Capacha crap.
Quick way to fix it, Throw it at a wall. MAke sure to do it hard enough though to where everything separates... basically it looks like an explosion of phone parts.
Then all should be working.......
Apparently the part of that hack where it says its unstable and you may/may not loose data during calls was to far down the page for you?

oh how ironic.
at the begining we all were noobs. so dont shoot at him
su <------ this makes you SuperUser (or better use SuperUserPermissions?)
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system <---- this makes the systempartition writeable
cp /sdcard/build.sapphire.prop /system/build.sapphire.prop <--- this replaces the file "build.sapphire.prop" in the /system directory with that one on your SD Card.
so best way to undo that (if you have not make a backup from your old build.sapphire.prop) is to flash your rom fully new
bg
@rest. and for you xda needs a h4X0R test
If you have the .zip file of the ROM you're using, just open it, extract the /system/build.sapphire.prop and then push it
Code:
adb push build.sapphire.prop /system/

Not like these noobs.
We started off with JesusFreke and his roms.
We had to discover all of this from nothing.
Everything was experimental.
Everything was documented.
Just about everything can be found by searching or reading stickies.
But we still get questions like:

Oh, dear lord. Seriously, don't root your phone, I really don't think you'll get to take advantage of it. Why are we harsh? Because
a) you aren't thinking for yourself (if I restore stock, will it be stock? are you kidding?)
b) you posted in the wrong section (I'm looking for roms and other stuff and I see this stuff)
c) Your questions are answered elsewhere. Maybe if you knew how to search most of it yourself, then you'd be set! You don't even need to search, you just need to use the squishy thing located in your head for this specific question!
and d) probably because if we keep feeding you answers to, um, silly questions - you'll just keep asking more and more.

I'm facing the same situation, but I've compared the build.prop of the Cursorsense and the "hacked" one and they have the same settings. So probably it depends on the provider.
Anyway my stock rom (TIM) was a little different;
I'm a noobie but if you just want to revert to basic settings I think the fastest way is to edit the script and:

"Ok, I'm flashing it now... Flashed it... Booting into recovery... Pressed ALT+L to show the menu (I really think you should mention that the user needs to do this in your OP).
Also it would be nice if I had to press a button to confirm an operation before it actually executes, like how on most recovery images you have to press HOME to confirm a wipe, etc.
Other than that, I'm impressed and I was able to go into console. That's major for some people."

Is it really too difficult to completely spell words?
Your typing comes across as being that of an illiterate, honestly I found it a little difficult to understand, did you mean dialogue?
I thought this was based off of Cyan 1.4, will it get updated or is this like a final version?

I'm typing from a phone, and didn't realize I misspelled a single word, I'm so sorry that my typing was at least readable, an not spelld lik dis er dattt, nn just addnn xtruh lettrzz 2 ma wurdz.
Edit: sorry for flooding your post, Koush. Great work!
on a serious note,
I have been thinking of making a minor tweak to ra-1.5.2 recovery
I noticed that . files don't get wiped from ext{2,3,4} but do get backed up
so my tweak would be to exclude files with the leading .
this way you could sym link /system/etc/hosts to /system/sd/.hosts and not clobber it when doing a nand restore.
no big deal but handy
PS , I was using /system/sd/.ubuntu as a chroot dir , but backups were taking longer and I was just tar -deteting .ubuntu from them after to 1/ save space 2/ not clobber
Keep the arguing to a minimum and keep the thread on topic.
Thanks ivan, remember our dashes and wings? Good times. Anyway, would it be better to have this recovery if you are running a 2.1 eclair ROM? What would be the pros over say AR 1.5.2? And would it work for a MT3G or just the G1? Just wondering. Thanks all you devs for making our phones awesome.

It's all gravy, it's just hard to make a note of sarcasm on the internet, where there is a lacking of proper punctuation at times, or a lack of "lol"'s and smiley faces.
Anyways it's all cool, brother.
Koush, however, I would like to make a suggestion. Something that has always bothered me about recovery images, is that the file list when you flash an update isn't in alphabetical order, nor is the file browser (which I absolutely love by the way, this is something I've been dieing to see in a recovery image). Anyways it's hard to browse around when everything is out of order. In my case, I've got 20-30 folders on my SD card, and with them placed in no specific order, it's just a pain maneuvering throughout it.

I hope so that would be pretty cool. It would make it a lot easier to edit roms and just flash them instead of having to sign them. I still dont understand why the only drag and drop signing program that someone made is for Mac.

The difference is that your command is right and the other one is wrong; mtd* does not exist on the MT4G, at least not in any ROM I have used. It does not use the memory technology device subsystem.

Yeah, that's one of my gripes with this phone also. Not specifically for texting, just that the power button is poorly placed in general and not very well designed. Don't really know where else they could have put it, but they could have made it provide more feedback.

Its a design flaw, they shouldn't have raised the button. I would suggest get a gel skin and cut off the power button part of the skin. Only prob with gel skin is it catches a lot of dirt.

This is officially my last post for this thread. you are doing nothing but trolling. Any Android phone running anything post 2.x can take advantage of the line code in question.
Here is a link that explains the very same thing. The problem is the [OP] didn't know where the G-Mail and was stored. http://jaxov.com/2010/09/how-to-remove-stock-default-android-apps-easily/
Just for giggles i also executed the very same commands to my HTC Glacier and it worked perfectly.
I have attached a Screen Shot of the process.
Ok, I did not want to embarrass you, but it seems you want it that way. First question, do you even know what that command does? Or, do you just blindly input that command and get no error message, so you assume it worked, since that is the way it has always worked on previous phones?
Reason 1 calling out someone in such a way when you are not %100 sure you are correct is an idiotic thing to do: According to the picture you posted you are telling me you mounted a device called "data" to the mountpoint /system using the yaffs filesystem; on the MT4G. Actually what happened was you remounted the filesystem mounted at /system. The /dev/mtdblk3/data (what the hell is that anyway...lol) is ignored, as is the yaffs portion, because you have /system behind it. Try it. You could have avoided this embarrasment by actually checking for the device you mentioned.
Reason 2 calling out someone in such a way when you are not %100 sure you are correct is an idiotic thing to do: You picked up some instructions off the internet that do not even apply to the MT4G, assuming it is true for all Android devices. The link you posted says nothing about the MT4G. It talks about devices on which the MTD subsystem is actually used. Do you even know what MTD means? Do you know what yaffs is? How about ext3 or ext4? Maybe if I say it again you will understand; there is no MTD subsystem on the MT4G. It uses eMMC, but I guess in your infinite scouring of the internet in all its glory, you missed that one.
Reason 3 calling out someone in such a way when you are not %100 sure you are correct is an idiotic thing to do: You come on a public forum (search "mytouch 4g mtdblk3" on Google; first hit; your infinite wisdom is now archived forever, for all to see) with your "acquired" knowledge thinking you will show "that" guy on the forum. However, what you actually found was something else.
Man, you really had an easy out. I usually take those.
Edit: I will no longer use the term idiot when referring to someone who comes in to a public forum and aggressively criticizes another when he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. And, certainly, I cannot use the term troll since that was already taken when referring to me. I think I will use the term douche from now on when referring to such an individual. Is that ok?
OK, can we please try and keep this on topic please?
Any ideas post your
backup methods here
Look through the like 20 threads already posted about IMEI!! WAY TO MUCH INFO OUT THERE FOR A POST LIKE THIS!

Look for Synergy_Backup_HWKeys_signed.zip load into SD card, run recovery, run ZIP...voila , backed up. If you lose it, find /synergy in recovery then the zip file to restore it
The synergy one seems to be the easiest. It was supposedly just confirmed to restore a lost IMEI, without the roaming issue too.

I don't know where you're getting your guesses from, but the important thing is that there is a chance. Better safe than sorry.

might as well do the qpst method just to be safe as well. again, please use the search function.
Of course mine is backed up, but should I back it up again everytime there is a new tool/method?
My point is it must be very rare or there would be a much larger outcry on xda and the net in general.

It's common enough that there are guides and methods about how to solve or counter the problem. XDA is a very small portion of S3 owners. Just depends on how safe you want to be. None of the current methods are guaranteed now even though all are confirmed to work to some extent. Maybe the new fix is all we'll need, but we thought that about QPST too. Time will tell.
I've been searching for several weeks on the best way to do this. The result was simply to be drowned by the deluge of information. Also, now that I'm already running CM10, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it. "Use the search" is not an acceptable answer in my case, nor the OP's and frankly, I'm tempted to report anyone who posts those words as spammers.
Download terminal emulator from the market. Type "su" (no quotations), then type "reboot nvbackup" (no quotations). Your phone should reboot and backup two modem files. If you lose your imei, open up terminal emulator again, type "su" (no quotations), then "reboot nvrestore" (no quotations).

Doesn't get any easier than that!
The way I understood it was that there was a path in the reboot code that tried to restore imei from a backup. If "reboot nvbackup" was never run, then the imei would be restored from nothing. Once you run "reboot nvbackup", the backup will be there and you will no longer have an imei problem. Either way, this is great news!

Look we all know what opinions are like. Yes got it we all need help but sometimes you just have to do it. Why not do multiple ways of backing it up so your safe. Yes they should have used the search or ask it it one of the IMIE forms that already exist I'm not straying to flame but come on guy we should report the OP for making this thread and not keeping up with it not the people who reply!

This is correct, the way E explained it is once you run nvbackup then you never have to worry about it!
If anyone wants to read about it it's in about page 690 of the synergy ROM thread.

I've searched everywhere and can't find anything on the sprint SPH-P500.
Does anyone know of any guides out there? I don't want to risk bricking it with a root from another model number. Thanks for all your hard work guys.much appreciated!
Do you have your stock rom? If you do, try rom for GT-5100 but you will not have 4G capability...
And if it don't work, you go in download mode and then restore your old stock rom thank to odin!
I guess everyone has forgotten about our tablet
I've never done anything on the coding side. But if someone could give me some guidance, I'd be willing to attempt to port some of the greatness that all of the other tablets are getting.
Its a great undertaking. I do website development and have linux experience and would rater not touch rom development. I have been interested though.
As far as the gt builds, i can give that a try. I dont have 4g in my area anyways,. Ill just have to become comfortable with odin before i do anything. Thanks!
Has there been any update on this? Looked around and doesn't look like there is even a developer working on it.
I can't even find the stock firmware for the SPH-P500.05 to download. I'm about to see if a sprint store will give me the file so I can start experimenting. If someone has a link to the stock firmware for this device it would be great. Maybe I'll get my hands dirty and make a few attempts and maybe get a guide going.

I understand that CVE-2013-2094 has been ported to work (escalate to r00t) on Android devices. I don't know if this model has "performance events" turned on but, if so, could this be an opportunity to get # on our tablets?
Also, I have a way to kick off processes as system. Could that help us?

I need to subscribe to this thread. Sorry about the delay. I have been playing with the idea of flashing the GT-5100 firmware, but there is no way back to stock if things go bad. I think I'm going to be more proactive and talk with the local Sprint store to see if I can get that firmware / bin from them. The fact that the development community for this device is so dead is a bit eerie.

I can also confirm cydia impactor works and is really as easy as downloading to pc run impactor hit startband it installsnsuper su right to the root of the tablet after that I have been able to successfully install (titanium, busybox, , link2sd, rom manager) and they all have root access
I have also been able to download mobile terminal and at $ prompt put in (su) and # should show letting you know you now have root access
after that I have also been able to change the default storage to ext2 by using. pm set-install-location 2, from # prompt and using link2sd to move apps 2 extsdcard for those of you that have an 8 gigger like I do I hope this helps im still alittle new to android
Any custom roms found for this tablet? I googled and I could only find rooting method but no custom roms (e.g. kitkat) for this tablet. Can the P5100 ones be used instead? I don't need the 4G service.
cydia impactor isnt recognizing the device. usb drivers fully installed and all that... kinda weird
nevermind. it worked!!! now i just need to install recovery and find a darn ROM LoL
I just received my Sprint SPH-500, and wouldn't have known it's a nonstandard Galaxy Tab 2 variant without this thread. I rooted mine with Towelroot, so I still have a locked bootloader, but full root access. AFAIK, my flash counter hasn't been triggered.
Here;s a screen capture of my downloading screen. It shows I haven't done a custom binary download (what triggers the flash counter), and I'm not running a custom binary, as I'm running the Samsung Official binary. But it does show my system status is custom..

I should have progress to report on moving apps to my external sdcard and second partition soon.
After experimenting with Link2SD for more than a week, I gave up on it. It's just too unstable to be a daily driver. I only have the 8 GB model, and run several large data astronomy and birding apps, They left me with 800 MB free RAM on my internal SD storage, and I still had other apps to install.
Link2SD put apks, Dalvik-cache, and lib files on the second partition of my external SDCard, but lost the links a reboot or two later. It claimed to move 1.8 GB of files, but showed 14 GB of RAM used on my second partition. It lost user and system apps that were linked, unlinked, and lost, for instance, the Google Play Store Services.
I ended up using a symlinking app called Foldermount, similar to the old (unsupported) Directory Bind app. It stores data folders on my external SDCard, and symlinks them so my astronomy and birding apps think they're still stored on the internal SDCard. I've got all my apps installed, and still have nearly 3 GB internal SDCard RAM free.
So, I love the Moto X, but a couple things had been bugging me about it.
The giant 4G LTE icon (We get it Verizon, it's your network)
The weird wifi icon spacing
The 5 bar signal bar (I don't get this one. Is this a new thing? Does any other phone on verizon do this?
The glitchy 5 bar drawable (There's a weird extra line in there for some reason.)
So I did a small edit to the SystemUI to fix those for me, and I figured you guys might like it too.
Go from this:

}
To this:
Download the modded SystemUI flashable zip [4.2.2] here.
To install, just flash in Safestrap.
NEW Download the edit for 4.4 here. This is not a flashable zip. Since we don't have Safestrap for 4.4 just yet, check out how to apply it below:
----------------------------
Download the SystemUI and place it in a folder.
CD into that folder, and open a command line/terminal there. (If you don't have ADB in your path, you will have to put it where ADB is.)
Do the following (make sure you're in "recovery" mode so things stick)
Code:
adb push SystemUI.apk /sdcard/
adb shell
----------(this will enter you into a shell on the device)-----------
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/SystemUI.apk /system/priv-app/
reboot recovery
UPDATES
(11/17) 1.01 - Fixed some unchanged images when you're on 3G/1X and wifi.
(11/26) 2.0 Added a 4.4 version (No Safestrap)
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR SYSTEMUI BEFORE REPLACING IT.
To-Do next - Remove mobile indicator on wifi.
Enjoy~
So, this should theoretically be possible on a locked MotoX, correct? Would you mind giving me the edits you made for removing the weird wifi spacing?
I assume to make the SystemUI edit, I would have to deodex my SystemUI.apk, correct?

This is already for locked bootloaders. Just flash in safestrap!
Also, funny story about the wifi spacing, I didn't actually edit anything but the images. Moto/VZ actually had too much space on the icon itself! Probably to make room for the 4GLTE icon. That too, was just a simple image edit/swap, and it fell right back where it was supposed to be. Weird that they did that. If they wanted their LTE icon that bad, they could have easily done it tastefully.

Wooooooooooooow. I can't believe they put space in the actual images. Stupid if you ask me. However, that doesn't make sense. Gravity Box has an option for using its built in icons. These icons still have the spacing issue.
What I'm asking is if I can use this to work on a LOCKED MotoX. Would I just need to deodex the SystemUI.apk?

Yeah that's what I thought you meant. I am also on a retail locked Moto X. Safestrap is MADE for our phones. Just head over to this thread, install it and you will have basically TWRP, ready to flash Safestrap-compatible ROMs and zip file mods.
If you'd rather though, you can just push the SystemUI to /system/app manually using ADB. If you know how, and would prefer that, you can use this code:
Code:
adb push SystemUI/apk /sdcard/
adb shell
su
getprop ro.boot.write_protect
If this does not return a 0, you need to reboot into "recovery" to turn off write protect. Then
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /system
cp /sdcard/SystemUI.apk /system/app
reboot recovery
And that will do basically what the ZIP does.

I'm no expert but I'm inclined to believe that the backup you made of the SystemUI.apk would be your back to stock option. You'd just have to push it to your phone or something like that.
How difficult would itnbe to port these to 4.4 (obviously in white and with no safestrap)? I'd really like to my get rid of Vzw's giant 4G icon.
Thanks

Just an FYI (you probably already know this), I was able to use Root Explorer and mount /system/priv-app/ as R/W and copy the apk there instead of using adb. After I copied it there I just did a reboot and it's "fixed" now.

Yep that's a way you can do it! Only reason I didn't say is cause when you mess with SystemUI, it might reboot your phone before you can get the new one in there. Glad it worked though!

Anyway to make this work for Sprint? I couldn't find anything regarding status bar mods via Systemui.apk for Sprint. Thanks!
How much would it take to make it say LTE instead of 4G? I also think I prefer the 4 bar signal instead of 5.
I'd be happy to do my own work I just don't know which/how many files to edit.

Alright check this out.All you gotta do is go into the SystemUI.apk, and search for any icon that says zz_moto_...._4g_lte and relpace it with the LTE logo from the normal files at the top. If you look for the icons without the zz_moto on the front that have a similar name, you'll find it. And to do the 4 bars, you have to either mess with XML files, or do it the "cheaty" way by renaming the 4bar drawables their 5-bar counterparts names. (zz_moto_stst_system_signal_5bar_)
