Is it possible to change first splash screen? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I hate the stupid US TMO splash screen that it shows when the phone first boots. Ive searched and have not found how to change that one. Is it even possible?

I agree I would like to be able to do this as well. I remember doing it a long time ago on accident but not sure how.

HTC Rom Tool, combined with something else, used to be the solution for other phones, but I haven't found a definitive answer concerning the Leo's--especially considering that there are essentially two different models out there, which means potential memory access differences.
I should explain. There was a tool that let you take an image (480x800px) and create a .nbh file. It's more than one tool, and I'm just not sure if these tools are updated well enough to do the splash screen. Actually, it's the boot screen, and it has to be flashed. There are two other splash screens--one is the very first screen you see after the boot screen, and is often an animated gif, and there's one right after that which is not an animated gif (although in some roms the animated gif smoothly transitions into the second splash).
The latter two screens are easily customizable and require only that 1) the image be 480x800, and 2) some registry tweaks to display them unless you copy over existing files. Other than that, those two are easy.
I'd really like to make one for the boot screen. I know people have done it, so if anyone knows, please post up on this thread or create a thread giving detailed instructions and links to the necessary files.

This was answered several times. Please search first!

First off thanks, second ive searched everywhere. Will this work on a US TMO version, what with the different specs?

This does not, in any way, describe how to create your own splash screen for flashing. It's another "here's a splash screen, enjoy", but certainly not the tools or explanation for doing it yourself. If I have any luck, I'll post it.

Couldnt wait, bit the bullet and flashed it. Works just fine Now how to edit that with my own image??

Thanks allot this is actually the look I like. I really like keeping my phones looking stock to a point and this fits in great.

I used to do this on my FUZE. but is there anyway to do the same steps for the HD2? or use the same tools

cpiddy, how did you solve to change the ugly-white-T-Mo-bootscreen ?
can you explain it ? thanks...

Can anyone explain how to make a custom 1st splash screen. I have the file ready, in the proper pixel dimensions, and in png format. How can I use a custom RUU to flash it?

anyone can help how to make the own first boot screen... pls...

n00b question

hey before anyone starts flaming me for no search i wanted to apologise beforehand. I did search, this is all foreign to me. I have an mda, interested in the windows mobile 6 platform but theres a few questions i had.
1 being is the processor fast enough to handle the os or is it gonna be even laggier than it is now?
and 2 is there any step by step how to guide from begining to end (with photos preferably), just taking your plain ole out of the box mda and putting windows mobile 6 on it. all this kitchen and cooking and frying, tornados and crossbow code talk doesnt make sense to me. thanks so much for reading, I dont mean to be a newbie about all this stuff, I just want someone who knows what theyre doing to tell me what its all about.
Welcome to the wonderful world of MDA flashing! Ok so you want to take your MDA and load WM6 on it. That is what we reffer to as "flashing, " so anytime you hear someone talk about flashing their device to "Core," "Pandora" or "Crossbow" they mean they are changing the operating system to that paticular "version" of WM6. They are all based off (more or less) the same WM6 ROM but just tweaked with some useful apps, and registry changes. Read about them in the XDA-Wiki page. As far as learning how to flash, there's a "sticky" (a post that remains on the first page) entitled "Howto flash a Wizard... a little tutorial!" Just follow that word for word and you should be fine. It's easy if you just follow the instructions and don't try to jump ahead. Good luck!
follow these directions.. and you should have no problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613. WM6 seems to be a big upgrade.. so i suggest it.. then take a look and see which new ROM you want.. there are many.. if you want just basics you want a Vanilla ROM, i reccomend ANTC's WM6 Professional 3.0.. or if you want fully loaded try Pandora (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310530) or Faria (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297762). give it a whirl.. and if you need help, don't hesitate to IM or PM me.

awesome thanks so much for your help guys. I have a g4 mda, and from what I know i dont have to CID unlock it. im just trying to figure all this out. I dont think its as easy as downloading the rom utility update and downloading the rom... theres a million different tutorials and I dont know which one is the most current or the best. keep the replys coming though i appreciate it.

The group does a pretty good job of updating the info as new stuff gets released. Like I said earlier, most of your basic questions will be answered in the XDA-WIKI
see my signature, that's how it should work, no need for CID unlocking
the only "issue" with an G4 is that you only can flash the OS itself.
regards
IRM
cooool, so i got it flashed after trying a million times, but i finally found a version that works, I keep getting errors here and there. last time i flashed it was giving me a checkautorun.exe error. I just flashed farias rom, and when I was doing it with shelltool my mda displayed a few errors which i just pushed ok. also after flashing, i get a dos app thats cmd.exe that i just close and right after i close that, shelltool says its done. it wont say its done UNLESS i close cmd.exe. also having big problems with the contacts. every time i push the contacts button, it never opens. any suggestions?
just got an error that said unexpected error occured in shell attempting to restart.
Are you unlocking your phone first? It might be easier for you to do if you find an unlocking utility for a g4.. or pay the 40 bucks to IMEI-check.com
nope no unlocking. no more silly errors, the only thing i cant do is open my contacts, (or sync them) it just says a device by that name already exists on this maching and i have to rename or be guest. im gonna reflash and see if it helps any. now does anyone know if when using shelltool i need to go back to the original tmo rom and do all that hooplah or can i just flash it like it is now?
I dont understand why you can't open your contacts... do this.. check 'settings' in start menu under 'system' and see if there is a application called 'softkeys' if there is then click on it and see if there is a \contacts.lnk path under the 'Contact'
i dont see contact.
nope, looked in windows folder where all the other .ink files are, and contacts.ink is not there.
it's actually not directly in the windows folder it's in 'windows\appbuttons'
Sorry, I was assuming you looked directly in the 'windows' folder..
ok found it. doing a soft reset now to see if it works...
keep me posted.
well its still doing the same thing... i push the contacts, the start button displays contacts for a second, theres an x in the corner then it just goes back to the normal screen.
hmn.. thats weird.. what happens when you go to 'contacts' from your start menu?
same. well see. I really like the wm6 os. Ive never flashed anything or messed with any phone, so this is all very new to me. I wish there was someone else that flashed a g4 without unlocking it first... grrr. heres something funny, sometimes when I restart it shows the GSM version other times its blank... I dont really care if I brick this phone, last week it was acting up and tmo is sending me a replacement. this was back before i was starting to mess with it, so i got a replacement on the way. lets hope its a g3
Mine does the same thing, sometimes it shows GSM sometimes it doesnt.. Thats pretty common. Yeah I paid to unlock mine, so I have no idea when it comes to a locked device.,

Splasher 3: Change the 3 splash screens in a minute

Splasher : a splashscreen changer
FOR NOW, WORKS ON G4 HTC Prophet only.
It will work with other devices too (see below), but I need your help for that.
If you want to help, get a working (test it !) RUU splashscreen changer for your device
and provide me with the file so that it becomes a multi-device tool
I found it quite tricky for beginners, so I made it easier and faster. Check the video.
Unzip (a folder is created), put 3 pics named htc, splash and welcomehead (a set is provided for testing) in Splasher directory.
Launch, 15s later you get a RomUpdateUtility to flash 1st and 2nd splashcreens, and a cab file to change 3rd splashscreen (Windows boot screen).
You can find many splashscreens bitmaps here & here, please also post yours
Known issue: first splash (htc logo) shouldn't be too complex, if it fails try with a simplier picture (I'm working on it, if you can help please let me know).
I took all knowledge from this thread, NONE of the included utilities are written by me, so greetings go to them !
History:
v3 (03/10/07)
Easier, safer and faster ! Everything is now automated: Put 3 pics, launch and you get the RUU & cab files 15s later
Made the script cleaner, using autohotkey for automation.
v2 (01/10/07)
Safer: checks that file sizes are ok for flashing
Easier: automatically converts pictures to .bmp, 240x320
Faster & cleaner.
If ever you finish up with the 3-color screen on boot, just flash it back using provided pictures (prophet only).
Can't upload that one here (dunno why), here's an external link
thanks for providing a dummy way of changing the splash screens. xda-developers has been a tremendous resource even for a newbie like me. although the mods are very complicated to begin with.. i appreciate the community members creating easy to follow guides like these. thank you so much.
now to find 3 new cool splash screens.. or 1 really good one. i know i will be soft resetting my prophet often..
Check that thread for tons of splashes
New version, see first post.
Known limitation : Cannot fit anything into 1st splash screen up now, must be some visually small, very compressible logo/picture.
Nice.
Keep on the good work.
Best regards,
EquinoXe
First post updated:
New version, new splashscreens, new video
Will be updated to v4 in a few days:
Will let you choose if you only want to flash 3rd splash, or 1st/2nd ones.
Will handle changes to the device via ActiveSync.
Ah cool ill check it in a week
Keep up the good work.!
Can this be used by a hp, like rx6815?

Honestly I don't know. I don't think so.... The initial tool was written for HTC Wizard, and I guess Splash-screens memory addresses aren't the same for all devices, so you shouldn't try this
SO I wont, although it is tempting me a lot.
Thanks for your answers.
Great job though.

hehe, yeah dude it's a known issue ;-)
couldn't find any time to work on it, but next release will be much better
expect it to come around next wednesday and, errr I guess that issue will be solved ^_^'
It happens because 1st splash's address range in memory is smaller, or at least that's what sounds logical to me.
Till then you'd want to play with 1st splash compression in order to reduce not only filesize but quantity of visual data encoded in. ok it may sound weird, so just try to convert it (using MS paint) to gif then jpeg, and give it another try. if it's still doesn't work, I can only suggest you use a visually simplier one instead, and keep an eye on next build

Removing intro screen

Does anyone know how to remove the orange startup screen from the kaiser it is now SIM free CID unlocked and using duttys wm6 custom but at startup i get the orange startup screen then the HTC one and finally the WM splash any ideas on how to remove all apart from the HTC one?

Afraid you can't delete/remove the splash screens, only change them. You could flash a blank pic as the startup screen, then replace the Welcomehead96.png file with a blank .png to get the same effect, but you can't delete them altogether.
ok thanks, tried downloading splashtool but whenever i try to open image converter i get the message mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependancies not correctly registered

Touch Diamond2 5358+ , T5358+ WM6.5 GPS, Gravity, ROM etc etc

Hi everyone,
I have recently bought two (what i thought were) HTC Touch Diamond2. It turned out to be a generic chinese made 5358+ model phone, but it's still very cool and has all the cool features. One phone is now dead after a failed ROM update on it. I have extracted the RAW rom from the WORKING phone using PDOCREAD
237.38M (0xed60000) MSFlash
| 1.75M (0x1bf000) Part00
| 3.38M (0x360000) Part01
| 60.38M (0x3c60000) Part02
| 171.88M (0xabe0000) Part03
and now have the corresponding 4 RAW files to match above.
I want to write these back to the second phone, which i now have up and running using a Chinese version of a ROM for a T5353 running WM6.1, so I cant read anything, but i can get it connected via ActiveSync.
If i try and write the RAW files back using PDOCWRITE, i get a
ERROR: ITWriteDisk - The media is write protected.
error message, which Im assuming is because the phone is NOT CID unlocked.
so where to from HERE? How can i compile the RAW files into a compatible the BIN file (in this case called K3IMG.BIN)
OR
How can I supercid the phone to enable writing using 'pdocwrite'
Ive tried everything guys, really looking forward to you help.
Thanks!
one more thing..

How many T5358+ is out there, I mean, here, on XDA?
Hey Bloogoo, all,
I'm trying to figure out if 5358+ compatible with 5353 and 5355 firmware.
And even if not - I would like to know what other firmware is out there for our phone. Looks like some CO2 ROMs with Android started to show-up!
I've got 5358+ couple months ago and generally happy with it. So far I did not had a single crash or lockup. Battery life is fantastic compare to any other smart phone I ever owned.
My firmware is strange, that it's 6.5, but has old Internet Explorer. IE has no finger scrolling but only scroll by side bar. Another strange thing: zoom bar only works in picture viewer. I can't find another single app that can recognize zoom bar. G-sensor is very slow, It takes about 4-5 seconds to flip the screen and no other software can see it either. Other than that it is rock solid and works great.
Originally I've ordered 5355, but received 5358+ instead. The guy who sold it insists it's the same phone. Reading bits around this forum it certainly looks like it. But somewhere I've seeing mentioning that difference is the display. My posts on main thread for "CO2" left unanswered, looks like most of "CO2" phones out there are 5353s and 5355s. Under battery compartment it looks different too. And mic is in different spot. (5358+ has it on dead center, just like original BD2).
Why don't we start with posting our ROM versions?
Mine T5358+:
ROM Version R2517.7 Eng
ROM date 1/15/2010
Radio 1.07.9235
Protocol DV3.0
CPU reported MSM7200A (actually HiSilicon)
Model No. NEXPERIA SY.SOL 5209
Cheers yall!
T5358+ CONFIRMED. It is T5355 ROM compatible.
I feel lucky last Sunday. I've tired to ask about T5358+ and start flashing with different firmware (yes, risking to brick it). Every single T5355 ROM I've tried works fine. Most T5353 works as well, but some got stuck on boot splash. None of ROMs has zoom bar working, but I don't care for it.
The one in post #5, just as binary_vortex have mentioned, works, but colors are screwed-up, probably inverted. Firmware reported as :C02.001.09 from 3/02/2010. Mine T5358+ has R2518.7 Eng from 1/15/2010. It rings the bell with some info I've read on Mobile Uncle (with Google Translate) that 5358+ come with two different screens.
There are some very nice Chinese ROMs out there with WM 6.5.x and fully functional Manila. I'm yet to find same kind with English.
I actually like 6.1 better than 6.5. It feels snappier. For example G-sensor flips the screen in a fraction of a second where on 6.5 it takes over 3-4 seconds. Don't know if 6.1 is easier on battery.
Android ROMs start popping-up for 5355, but I'm yet to figure out how to install them or find one that already packaged. If anybody know - please post here.
Above is the info I was looking for a while and I'm posting it in hopes that it can be useful to owners of T5358+ who does not know where their phone fits in CO2 lineup.
Cheers yall!
hi.
thanks for confirming my problem!
will you be able to tell us where to find the roms in bin format?
Actually, which one is the less problematic for the T5358+?
You may want to take this out of Q&A to avoid it being closed as the original Q has been answered, i would post a new thread in Upgrading and Unlocking

How do I get the great clocks on my HTC HD2

Please, please, please can someone talk me through exactly how to add the amazing clocks you can get for the HD2 on here?
I've downloaded but they just don't appear and it's driving me absolutely crazy!!!
I'm a beginner and want to learn
in the same boat, cant get anything to change!
Which clocks? Analog or digital? You will need Co0kies Home Tab installed to use the analog clocks.
God, why do these hi-tec people have to make things so difficult for us beginners!
You'd think they'd have like a beginners section where you can read 'walk-throughs' to get these clocks on your phone along with great wallpapers.
They do full 'walk-throughs' for games etc that must take weeks to make, but none for how to sort your HTC HD2 out!
What's cookies home tab???
Analogue clocks, like watches you'd wear etc, etc!
There's just no detailed info for beginners, I haven't got a clue what to do once downloaded onto my phone.
(now I have to wait 5 minutes between each post on here! This just gets harder and harder!)

Its all in here somewhere you just have to dig for it............
Analogue clock - You need Cookies home tab installed (click the cookiemonster link in my signature)
Install the clock cab file
Reboot your phone.......
Flip clock - Install cab, restart your phone......
ALWAYS INSTALL TO DEVICE MEMORY!!!!
My device memory is always too full (with what I do not know) but I have lots of memory card storage available.
Can I not download to memory card?
So I download and install something called cookies home tab?
Then download clocks.............
But what next please?
Just about every clock thread on this forum will tell you what you need if you read the original post all the way thru. Did you read the first sticky post in this forum before you started posting? The one that says read before posting? It has a link in it that will take you to the Co0kies Home Tab thread in the regular Windows Mobile development forum.

Nobody will help you if you're complaining, find out for yourself how to get these clocks to work, make a detailed walkthrough and post it here and help others!
These clocks and almost every other modd isn't easy to make and people who make them are doing it for free and you asking them to make a manual escpeccially for you?
This forum is all about trying, learning and doing and testing things yourself, do a search foor cookie hometab or maxmanilla, that is what you need for these clocks,
Man, some people.........
Clear out your device memory........
Get CHT......
Tweak your phone how you want it.....
Its all trial and error...................
Thought people might, just might, be helpful, which a few are being......Thanks anyway!
installing cabs is similar to installing software on your pc or laptop. you put in your storage card, then install it (tab on it) from there and then restart your phone. just start with any of this clocks (cabs) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654098 to familiarise with the process
hi all,
I have all the CHT etc... installed.
I cant install a new clock cause I have [StarView] Fall out clock installed, but I cannot install it. I guess cause its in use.
How do you uninstall old clocks?
Go to your settings tab and select applications>remove applications then scroll thru the list and select what you want to uninstall. Then hit Remove. You may have to soft reset to complete the uninstall.
Tried that, says not fully uninstalled but do you want to remove from the list anyway.
Will try again with a soft reset though and see what happens.

Why?
Because I have the feeling that you *must* learn what a cab is, but *before*
you do special things like mods and tweaks. I don´t have the time to write
complete user and interface instructions, my stuff is done in my free time,
and it´s available for free. Nobody is obliged to use that stuff, but I am
happy and proud if many do.
The title of my thread says "clocks for CHT". If anybody doesn´t know what
CHT means, the search function will quickly deliver the information.
Maybe because I kind of expect from buyers of a €500 device that they do have
some basic knowledge, I don´t include a description about how a cab works.
Also, I am surprised to see that many users don´t even read the original I/B
which is available on HTC´s homepage - it delivers a lot of basic information.
The xda forum itself is the best source I can imagine to get any information
anybody needs. You just have to take a little effort and search.
Even the instructions which are in my thread are not read correctly. In some
cases, I added a small "ReadMe" file, which is also not read - when I consider
the questions which come.
And this is where we finally end up: Even beginner´s questions are gently
answered in my thread. Some people ask questions through PM, which is
fine, too - but you have to ask.
nope, cannot uninstall it!
very bizzare, reinstalled again and reset, and now its gone!! lol
nevermind, I have the result I want!
