after changing from 1.43 to 1.66 tonight when the phone first started up there was no "initial start up wizzard" to guide u through the phone set up.
but now ever time i turn the phone off the first setup procedure
(tap here to start typing) of that "initial start up wizzard" trys to run
is there any way i can run the wizzard from the phone!
This was quite common when upgrading to 1.66. Just open the comms manager and go into airplane mode - the wizard should pop up
thanks for that m8
No worries. Hope it did the trick

First of all, I want to thank all of you for giving all of us this information to do these things to our Wizards.
Second I would like to thank the cookers for their wonderful ROMs.
Third, please don't tell me to search... I have been searching for a couple of days but every post the search returns has dozens of pages, some hundreds!!
I have a new Cingular 8125. I am currently running Xplore 1.1. Every time I soft reset (Or hard reset for that matter). ActiveSync is running. How can I stop it from autostarting?

Click to collapse
Power off the phone, or remove the battery. Then it won't restart...
Seriously, the thing is built in to restart on its own. I do have to say I don't tend to see it start up as much with WM6 as I did with WM5, but it still does show up in my icon bar as running. I'm not aware of a reghack or anything to stop it. Its just one of those dumb things Microsoft thinks its doing you a favor by restarting it.
Thanx mfrazz. I use task manager to shut it off, so I have a workaround, the funny part is it doesn't show running in Comm manager unless it is connected. But my Wifi doesn't work unless I shut it off... I did remove "WiFiInit" from my start-up folder. I don't want wifi to start on its own either. Now if I can disable GPRS completely....
Any help would be great on this, I have unlocked Treo 750 from cingular, I downloaded the updater from palm with my serial number, and started the update, according to the final screen there was an error during installation, it wanted to start all over again and I could not stay and finish. I disconnected the phone from the pc, it had the screen on it as if it was new to setup, do the touch screen thing, set the time and date etc.
I did all that and the phone seemed to be working fine. I have been using it for a week now and no problems. the only glitch I am having is the bluetooth keeps dropping off, not connecting for my Motorola earpiece. it is hit and miss.
so, I decided that when I had some time I would start the update again and hope that it would overwrite everything, or delete it and then start a entire new install again. surprise, it started but then message said update was not needed and that was it.
any advice on this, I would like to do a total new install again, just thinking there is something that did not complete during the first install.
thanks in advance for any suggestions.
ps. I have not tried a hard reset, as I was told since this is an unlocked phone, I may not get it started again.
several ways to address, but to use what you already have, extract the contents of the updater to a new folder on your desktop, look for payloads.xml. open in notepad and change the following lines to higher numbers as I have:
<revision_no>2.28</revision_no>
<high>3.00</high>
Save the file and close. Now find index.hta and doubleclick - follow the prompts.
if that dosnt work dont be afraid to hard reset. i have an unlocked 750 and ive hard reset twice. its painless, just make sure to back up all your files on a storage card.
I was following the nice little wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies) and got down to installing the button ROM to downgrade the IPL to 1.05. Started off fine, but it's stopped at 57%. For over an hour already. I wasn't running anything, but did have Firefox open the whole time (was reading ahead in the instructions).
I guess the question is, am I screwed, or will I be able to end task on this update and restart it? I haven't turned them off yet, but I'm guessing that if I do my phone will be a fancy paperweight.
I did notice that ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NOID.exe has maxed out one of my cores (13% utilization, 8-core computer--I.E one core is pegged at 100%), so I'd say it's crashed or in a loop.
I'm going to leave it running--overnight perhaps--and see what happens. Any other suggestions?
er.. if this is the wrong forum, I apologize. I forgot which forum I was reading before I hit 'new topic'.
First, don't use Vista to update if you can.
If the flashing stops, just reboot or use another computer to try again, your Wizard should enter bootloader automatically when you reset it. That should not brick the device (Unless you are installing Button's ROM to a G4 device).
If Wizard stuck at IPL boot screen (not bootloader), press camera+reset can let it enter bootloader directly.
Ok, I am on XP.
Well, I went ahead and killed the locked process and yanked the battery from the phone and was pleasantly surprised it came back up straight into the bootloader mode. These little phones are more resilient than I thought.
I also discovered my problem was that the ROM updater will freeze if activesync is running and connected to the phone. Knowing that, I was able to work around it and got everything on the phone updated, and am now running WM6 on it.
Thanks.
Now I can start using Visual studio.
Love Wizard
One thing that makes me love the wizard is it does rarely brick...
You must be joking...rarely does brick? Shoot, look at the Wizard wrong and BAM! Brick you shall have!
and i have a few questions before i get started so i dont end up bricking my phone.
first, i tried to hardspl my phone WITHOUT a hard reset on the phone and it would not connect to the phone - kept giving me errors. do i NEED to hard reset my phone before i flash the hard spl?
second, i have read in a thread (i forget where or which thread) that you need your phone in the "flash" mode (i forget what its called exactly, but to get to it on my HTC TP2, you press and hold the volume down button and then press the power button (i believe the hang up button is the power button))... do i need to be in this mode for hard spl and/or when i flash whatever rom i decide upon?
third, the ONLY reason im doing this is to upgrade touchflo 3d to version 2.5. my verizon touch flow is very lack luster and monochromatic. i see these screen shots people post of the new touchflo 3d (manila) and wish to use this instead of what i have now for touchflo. has ANYONE made a cab of touchflo 3d 2.0 or better yet?
thanks and happy flashing.
Welcome aboard
Have a deep read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550540
If you follow instructions all should be ok.
Good luck,
thanks, but i have read that and that is the thread i read where it said something about flashing the hardspl after a hard reset, and it confused me, because no other hardspl threads mention having to do this.
i tried following along without the hard reset of the phone, but it would not connect to the phone. i have the phone connected via usb and in windows mobile device center, so i dunno why it wont connect.
Check in settings-connections-usb to pc that you have unticked the 2nd and last option, reboot pc and tp2 and try again.
On simpler terms you have to have checked only the 1st option
Hope it helps,
you mean change those settings on the pc in windows mobile device center, right? or on the phone itself. i just checked my phone in the settings where you said, and it does have a usb to pc applet on the phone, however it does not have any of the described options to uncheck.
Hello everyone
I'm having trouple running WM 6.5 on my HTC TYTN II.
After install it reboots and I can use it for the stuff I want. But when I've used it for some time (everything from 10 minutes to a days work), it hangs at some point. When it hangs I have to pull the battery and insert it again, which might be just fine if it remembered that I've already set up my phone and all my data is lost.
When I insert the battery again it boots and ask me to setup my phone, i.e. align screen, set clock (time is even reset) and so forth. I have to install all my apps (read: maybe 5) again, setup my exchange account and so on.
Can anybody help or have any ideas what to do?
After an install I do a hard reset and it boots.
I've installed a few releases, so I don't think it's related to that, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for any help!
