I am using the stock radio. This has been confirmed by others as working also.
Seems as if there is some sort of bug with with Cell standby that causes the phone to lose signal which in turns just kills the battery. To verify that your set has the problem, check the Cell standby info in the Battery Use info. If the Time without a signal is higher than 0% (50% seems to be the norm) than you have a problem.
One solution, at the moment, is to follow these steps:
1. Plug in phone charger or into USB.
2. Put phone in Airplane mode
3. Put phone to sleep for a minute
4. Turn off airplane mode
5. Unplug phone
My Time without a signal is at 0% for over 16 hours now. The battery life is much better and the phone didn't die on me last night while i was sleeping.
I am using the new Radio and mine was @ 58%. I will report back with any change that this makes.
Also testing. Mine was at 32%.
Didn't work for me
I am running the stock radio and after following the instructions cell standby was at 0%. 5 minutes later, I am back up to 46% so I guess it didn't work
Tried it twice with the same result.
Ok, followed your steps. Using the new radio, after 2 min with the phone in standby, I checked again. Shows it sitting at 40%. So I dont know.....
same here...it's back up to 48%
I tried this and after 10 minutes of standby mine has dropped from 56%% down to 30%. What exactly does this fix do and does it have to be done after every reboot?
Well i tried it and thus far it's had no effect my cell standby is back up to 40% was at 50% it's been climbing steadily.
Perhaps someone can correct me but it was my impression that "Cell Standby" was NOT time without a signal but rather cell time spent doing nothing but communicating with the towers. Since the phone is always communicating with the towers then it's going to show a high percentage of battery usage.
I imagine the reason you are seeing less % with Cell Standby is not because your saving battery but rather other applications (I don't think they all show) are using more battery time.
Anyway I don't know this for fact, but it makes a sense to me. Perhaps someone else can comment on this.
You need to press on Cell Standby to see Time without a signal , this is what kills the battery.

Were not talking about cell standby, were talking about time without signal, which is a huge battery drain, and is under the cell standby category.
Myth busted!!!

Thanks for the correction, however I did go under Cell Standby and I do not see the settings you are referring to. Perhaps there is a ROM difference (damagecontrol 1.0) or maybe I don't have any time without signal.

I did it one more time and it worked this time.
I'll keep my eyes on it until tomorrow and see if there is a difference.
OP, do you have to do this after every reboot?

Mine also looks like that without showing Time without a signal for a while, at some point it will start showing 0% otherwise is will show like 50%.

That's a pretty big assumption. One that's unsupported IMO.
My "time without a signal" has been exactly 50% since I installed DamageControl. My battery life is no worse than it was with any 1.5 ROM. I don't think this is an issue.

I can tell you that my battery life for 18 hours yesterday was better then it has been. I also know that if you have no signal the battery drains like a mother. I don't know if all phones have this problem but I have a phone "without Google" on it.
ill give it a shot i was at 50% so cant hurt
I have noticed that eventhough my cell standby time has decreased the time without a signal is still at 50%.
HAHA Well without any fix at all Cell StandBy = 5% - Pretty good if you ask me.
BUT
Street View is at 89%- ROFL I haven't used Maps.Nav in 2 days!

My Time Without Signal was at 58% before doing this (the Cell Standby was somewhere around 60%).
After doing this 1.5 hours ago my phone does not display a Time Without Signal.

Battery was 28% last night, the phone gained 3% overnight when It usually drains 2%, no usb connection as you can see in the graphic. What could cause this behavior? I’m just curious.

Perhaps its an issue with your battery controller. It was projecting a certain loss of battery but when it did not after waking from sleep it assumed it had charged and displayed a higher %?
That is completely conjecture based in no fact other than those made up by me, so please take it with a grain of salt. =)
i'll keep saying this, but nobody wants to look at the nexus s battery driver code. seems the phone is based off voltage tables, which fluctuate under load, and hence when you charge to 100% and unplug, it drops to 97%. because the voltage drop.
same could apply to this situation, very often you can see your voltage drop like that. especially if you left the phone idle all night after using it hard prior. voltage drops then increases.
Yes, I was using maps very hardly (at least in comparison to the rest of the day) and that’s the reason of the fast drop in the graphic, then the phone went sleep for almost 7 hours. I’ll take a look at what you’re saying about voltage tables. Very interesting info here.

you were using maps right around the time of that drop? then yes that's the reason. i wasnt directing the "code review" to you lol, just more of a general thing that was discussed in the forum previously. sorry
but this would definitely show, in my opinion, why there is also the 100% to 97% drop when taking the phone off the charger. voltage drop always ocurrs here.

its the battery meter. you probably rebooted. the battery meter in android is known to be inaccurate. sometimes after a reboot it can gain or lose percentage. ive gained 25% before after rebooting! in reality, you didnt gain anything, its just the meter being off by a bit.
I just want to know how you get nearly 4 days of use out of a charge!
Don't you use your phone?

I haven’t seen this after reboot, this happened after awake and it wasn’t sudden. Phone without signal in the graphic is the “airplane-mode” It wasn’t off. I know that battery didn’t gain any charge, of course, It’s just the weird behavior of android reading battery information.

it would be awesome if you could test this if you dont mind. turn your screen brightness to max, make sure your on 3g and not wifi, open google maps and scroll in one direction for about a minute or 2, check the battery percent and voltage. then turn off the screen, leave it sit for a few minutes, then see the percent and voltage readings.
maybe try a test a few times just for fun...you wanna place as much load on the phone as possible, so maybe even turn on the camera flash?

does any body else has an easier way, or can recommend a market app to test the battery life by using full features?
Quick test here:
Beginning with 3728 mV, stress the phone a little and It drops to 3622 mV, then I let the phone sleep for couple of minutes and after wake it battery shows 3730 mV. It seems to show higher values than those that were present before sending the phone to sleep. What could be said about that?
I’ll do another test with full charge and more stress, but for the moment, my phone is charging, yeah…. Finally.

its too bad my app (my sig) doesnt work for the nexus s, because i just recently added real time voltage vs current graphing, taking 2 second readings, for these exact circunstances. its fun doing these types of tests on my n1. but the battery driver and model is too different in the nexus s to use the app...
n1 doesnt use voltage at all for percent readings, but my hunch from code was the nexus s does. that's why i was so curious. check out some screens though for fun. you can really do some interesting tests with such high sample rates.
Running Stock ICS 4.1.2 on Nexus S i9020A on AT&T US.
The battery was fine till about a few months back, but of late, it is draining @ around 8-10% per hour on standby!. I originally thought JB was causing the drain, and switched to ICS, and finally to GB. But the drain is consistent across all three.
There is also accelerated battery drain if my phone is completely switched off. If I leave the battery in the phone after powering off, the battery goes from 100 - 0 in less than 4 hours. Thinking the battery might have gone bad, I bought another oem battery, but that is exhibiting the same behavior.
This leads me to think there might be a hardware issue with my phone. I am tired of keeping the phone plugged in at all times, and am ready to throw this out the window and get another phone. As a last ditch effort, I wanted to post this here to see if I can get any kind of feedback/confirmation on this before I buy another phone. Other users are reporting 1-2% battery drain on standby, so 8-10% drain is unacceptable by any standard.
I have attached some screenshots from today when the battery was at 20% after about 9 hours. For this test, I did the following last night:
1. uninstalled all apps I downloaded
2. turned off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, sync, auto brightness ( set to the minimum brightness)
I charged the phone fully, and then left it on standby, with minimal usage - I think I made a 2 minute call, checked my email once, and read some rss feeds for about 5 minutes in the 9 hours I tested it.

I know I'm not giving any advice here but I just wanted to let you know I'm in the same boat. No matter what ROM GB/ICS/JB I lose too much battery per hour with the phone just on standby. There's no explanation for %10 battery drain per hour with pretty much everything off (wifi, data, gps, nfc, background data, etc)
I have tried everything and now I must admit I've given up. I'm just going to ride out CM 10.1 until I can decide on a new phone, most likely the Nexus 4 or HTC One.

Bro, just replace the battery, buy a new one!
Doesn't seem like a software issue to me, sadly.
That confirms my suspicion. I guess it is time to start looking for a new phone. Thanks!

Yeah, your phone doesn't seem to be doing much while asleep. 20 minutes screen on, 35 minutes active, yet battery down to 21%. My battery would be at 90% with that sort of usage. Since you changed the battery (I'll assume it's a decent quality battery, although a cheap battery could be in cause), there's not much left.
Have you tried switching 3G off? 3G seems to SUCK the life out of these Nexus S batteries like no tomorrow.
But I suspect it's a hardware issue with the Nexus S phones. I have WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and auto-sync all shut off and a static wallpaper and I will lose 20% of my battery in 7-8 hours.
Battery is kernel related. Try changing your I/o scheduler to row and governor to smartassv2. If you don't have those options then look for a kernel that does...air kernel and matrix should suffice.
NO SOLUTION so far
A friend was having the same issue, gave him the battery of my nexus s ... it lasted him for 7-8hrs max whereas it gives me 1 day~ on 2G and normal use without gaimng . So my guess like his mobile your mobile may have some component which is short and draining out the battery . I have been trying to look around for answer but so far no luck. So better check it with another batteryif you can before purchasing a new one.
Vampire test
If anyone is investigating why their Nexus S suddenly starts draining the battery in a matter of hours, BEFORE spending a ton of time (like I did) trying to diagnose what software problem you might have, do the vampire test, as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42586314
I wasted days before coming across this test on this forum, and it proved it had to be a hardware fault.
I have two healthy batteries, both hold a charge for days (probably weeks) when not inserted in the phone, but pop one in the phone, leave it powered off, and within 6 hrs it's dead. So frustrating, and sad to see this phone go.
I got my Z5 this monday and the first day it worked like a charm. Then it started to drain the battery faster than usual, if I browse the web or reddit with the Reddit Now! app - my battery starts to drain about 2% every minute or so. I first checked if I had any sync issues but there was none then I started to delete all apps I did not need. Still the same issue. Today I barely used my phone, only 3 hours of SOC but it was not heavy usage. I only use WhatsApp, Reddit Now, Chrome and Snapchat(almost never) and today the only thing that should've had an impact on the battery was WhatsApp. Somehow the WiFi shows as "on" but I never use WiFi when at school - so basically everything between 08:00 and 16:00 was pure 4G.
I really love this phone, but the battery is not what they promised. And it gets really hot during normal use! Here is some pictures, hope you guys can help me figure this out...

Yeah, that is strange because my previous phone LG G3 had perfect network signal... I've heard from other Z5 users that the network signal is bad on the phones..
The battery is varying almost too much for my taste... However I have found one of the sources for the problem - Spotify is a huge battery drain, dropping almost 3% every minute and heats up the phone to the point of no touching...
Having Facebook notifications on also causes big drain
Sent from my Xperia z5 by Tapatalk
You're absolutely not alone.. I also have abysmal battery life on my Z5.
Here's my stats from yesterday (full day at work)
h ttp://imgur.com/VF2b45g (remove the space)
WiFi, 3hrs 20mins SoT.
Battery lasted pretty much exactly 12hours, thats pretty far from 2 days promised by Sony. My old Z3 didn't have me worry about my battery at the end of the day, I knew it would last..
(Yes i have bad reception at my job (I work in a TV studio) but again, my Z3c handled that like a champ.
I HATE myself so much for jumping the wagon early. I expected the same exceptional battery life as my old Z3, only in a shiny new package. To say im unimpressed and incredibly disappointed is an understatement of proportions.
I'm currently fighting for a full refund and cancellation of my subscription from my carrier. Considering a Oneplus2, despite it also running the 810, which many seem to point to as the culprit for our battery life.
You really should get a new Z5, then. I haven't encountered any of those issues, but regarding the battery, maybe a full cycle charge could improve some things. Aside from that, I reckon to install Clean Master, just to see which apps are running in background constantly so you can end them. Worst case scenario, perform a factory reset.
Uninstall anything you've installed and disable any system apps you will never ever want or need and run it for a couple days and see how it is. Then start installing the apps you want again

This is my 4th Z5 actually
They all had this battery problem, they've all been through at least one full cycle as well. Done factory resets, also reinstalled firmware from PC Companion. Tried WiFi ON, OFF, doesn't matter, when ever i turn the screen on i get massive drain upwards of 1% per minute/2minutes. Autobrightness (45/50%)
Today stats: h ttp://imgur.com/6K45leg (again remove the space , thanks Obama!)
Android system and Kernel are top users in battery. Screen is 3rd.....
Sure, 55% in 11 hours is pretty good, but not with a little under 2hrs SoT.... SONY IM DISAPPOINTED!!
1st: Camera button was dead on arrival
2nd: Wonky loose power button, ****ty battery
3rd: ****ty battery, Stamina mode didn't work
4th: Working okay, deep sleeps, but drains insane amounts when screen is on, doing nothing, browsing, reddit etc.
I assume you still have not solved your issue? I'm getting almost identical stats on my Z5 in GSam.

Sadly no.. I'm getting approx 2.5H of SOT... I've tried many things, nothing helps. And the battery usage still reports my WiFi being on even though I turn WiFi off and all background scanning.. I'm getting really annoyed that Sony pretty much lied to us about the battery.. But I feel like the problem lies with the constant WiFi on, even though it is off.

Yup I have similar problems as well. Wifi won't turn on, and getting about 2.5hrs SoT out of a 100% juiced battery.
Maybe you 2 should try a full reset and completely re set up from scratch?
Sent from my Xperia z5 by Tapatalk
The battery seems to have "settled". I use these " " because some days the battery drains faster than water in the desert, and some days it lasts pretty much more than 4H SOT. Maybe there is some software issue? Because my WiFi is on 24/7 even when I HAVE disabled it and disabled all related settings to WiFi...
I have the same issues with wifi reporting on in the battery stats even if I turn it off. It doesn't show on in GSAM battery monitor so not sure what that's about. It also consistently reports low signal on the battery page and on my notification bar, whereas my Z3 reported high signal in the same place. If I do a speed test on 4G the speed is about the same, so I think that might be an issue with the displaying of signal rather than it not picking up much signal. My battery life is "OK", in that it will last 24-28 hours usually. My Z3 was quite a lot better.
I seem to have crappy mobile connection too. I game, watch videos and so on and get excellent battery life
I got the app greenify it shuts down all the apps for you or u can get it to do so before putting phone back in pocket, it has helped as I'm the same, battery drains in 6 hours max...
Facebook and messenger seem to take a lot of battery , Iv had Windows and iPhone they don't drain like this... Must be android system

Not even Airplane Mode is enough to stop WiFi showing up on my battery usage stats. Turning off "Network notification" (Notify whenever a public network is available) under Advanced Wi-Fi seems to do the trick though.
The only other gap in Wi-Fi battery usage appear to be my commute to work in a car - no Wi-Fi on the motorway so the OS must be truly turning Wi-Fi off then too. Sitting in an office with who knows how many Wi-Fi signals about must be keeping it on (only when the aforementioned Network notification setting is on).
I don't have any particular battery issues - I get a full day no problem - but maybe this is the reason that Sony's claimed 2-day battery seems a fantasy to me...
Let's clear this up, Sony never promised 2 days battery life, they stated "UP TO" 2 days battery life. ahead signal is going to drain the battery fast, if your like me and live in a crossover point of towers the phone is probably constantly switching between them. On an old phone I sat and watched it switching towers. Anyway my battery drains reasonably fast and the phone wasn't going to sleep but it's started to now, and I'm getting battery life then my previous phone, so I'm still happy about it and I'm a pretty heavy user with games, browsing etc.
So, I have a Exynos variant of the S10E and I'm having mixed result with battery life:
If I use my phone a lot (and I mean a lot) for example when I'm traveling i get about 6 hours of SoT which is great with a 3.100mah battery and heavy usage.
However on a regular day the phone just seems to discharge itself when in standby mode and I don't even reach 3 hours of SoT.
My setup is simple: all apps are disabled when on standby except for WhatsApp, Telegram and some e-commerce stuff and in the Battery stats "Android OS" in on top of everything (except for screen).
Are you having the same issue? Did you manage to find the cause? Let's discuss it.
This solution was posted on the S10 forum and certainly helped me.
There's a bug that stops the phone from going into a deep sleep mode post making a call (audio/video) on apps like WhatsApp, Skype et al. The solution for the time being is to reboot the phone once before going to bed. I tried a lot of other things but had a ~2% hourly standby drain which reduced to <5% overnight after figuring out this solution. I have both WiFi and Bluetooth on at night.
You may try to play around with the battery saving tweaks in ONE UI but nothing worked as well as this has. Hopefully there'll be a more practical fix to this soon.
Cheers!
Hi! Thanks for your feedback.
I have my S10E scheduled to reboot every night but this doesn't seem to fix the issue and I also don't use whatsapp/telegram voice/video calls, so I don't think is is quite the issue.
There's probably something else preventing deep sleep, but I think that waiting for an update from Samsung will be my best bet

That's interesting. There are over two dozen people on the s10 page confirming this to have solved their drain.
For how many days have you had your device? Mine took a while to understand my usage pattern
I am currently getting over 5 hours SoT over 18-20 hours now, it was ~3 hours previously.
I'm having the same issue. No video calls and still losing ~2% per hour. Restart doesn't help.
Mine too, lost 3% in under an hour sitting in my pocket doing nothing. As usual the battery stats are not much use.

There's a bug with the proximity sensor. The phone gets turned on automatically in the pocket which might cause battery drain.
BTW putting the phone on battery saver (Medium power saving) mode stops battery drain. Until we get a fix from Samsung this seems like a worthy option.

Nope. It's not only when sitting in the pocket. Basically put it on a table and the battery will drain.
There's people on the S10 forum reporting a much better battery performance after a software update (ASC8) on the Exynos S10 / S10+ (see here or here) that should fix the drain issues. Do you know if they are rolling it out also for the S10e Exynos?

It seems ASC8 has been stopped, and they are releasing ASCA. For now it has only released for Germany firmwares. Let's see what's new in this update. Regards
Same issue
I have the same problem, when phone is in use it gets great SoT of around 6 hours, but when not in use throughout the day battery still drains very quickly. I was hoping the update will fix it , but even after updating, nothing changed. Hopefully there is a solution soon.
Seems like battery drain issue was fixed in the latest update ASCA. Mine was previously draining 15% overnight. Now it only drained 4% in 8 hours!! Which is pretty amazing.
Anyone have the Hong Kong model G9700? I've noticed standby drain is quite high.
I have German ASCA version, but battery is draining awfully. I use both SIM cards and loose 25 percent half a day being in standby-mode.

Expected at least 5 hours of SOT from a phone at this price point. This is bad. Even with the second sim turned off, battery drains heavily.

I was also having pretty bad battery drain, 15% overnight. But after the ASCA update I'm getting about 5% overnight, maybe it's just my phone?
Used this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/galaxy-s10-battery-optimisation-guide-t3911988
After i made the tweaks the standby is decent compared to my OP6
I disabled bixby on the Maine screen 4 hours ago and I do have a feeling my battery od much better. Will see...
ASDA update seems to help with drainage for me.
Using 970U1 TMB version. Attached is typical usage for me last few days. I get another 6-8 hours sot average by 15% or so and about ~5% overnight drain
S10e Weird 999:MAILBOX_CP2AP Wakelock
Not sure why the "Android OS" always so high usage, I think in normal case, it should be lower than "Android System"..
And by using Battery Historian, I saw this kernel wake up, does anyone knows what's that?
I'm having a lot of RILJ_ACK_WL too.. Sigh.

I recently got a Mi 10 Lite and the battery seems to drain about 20% every night which seems very excessive to me. Last night for example it was on 71% when I went to sleep at 12 am and woke up 7 hours later to see it on 50%. I installed Battery Guru to help give more insight as I don't think MIUI's battery stats are the most accurate and it seems Xiaomi's security center is sitting at the top with 72% battery usage. This seems very high to me.
I do have a pi hole server on my network so is it possible that something on my phone is trying to phone home and can't get through?
The only thing that is on at night is wifi - GPS, bluetooth even 5G is off.
Has anyone experienced this on their device? I know I can try a Xiaomi.eu rom but I wanted to keep things as stock as possible for sometime.
I am wondering what else I can try?

I updated mine to Global 12.0.3 last week and mine seems to be losing a lot of battery overnight. Sync is turned off and there's minimal apps on my phone anyway. Mine seem to lose 20-30% overnight and it didn't before i updated.
Mine has lost 9% since it turned on at 7am this morning - so 8 1/2 hours. I'll leave it on overnight tonight, but your loss does seem excessive. I'm also on 12.0.3 Global.
Did a bit of an experiment last night. Put my phone on airplane mode and then turned WiFi back on. My phone only lost 2% battery during 8 hours overnight. I understand the cell radio uses a fair bit of battery but I wouldn't have thought 20% in 8 hours overnight in standby.
Is it possibly my sim card that might need updating, it is 4 or 5 years old? Unless it's just MIUI12 that doesn't play well with certain radios? Either way it definitely seems to be a radio issue.
I have noticed that when it's in standby for a long time with the cell on the MIUI Security Center jumps to the top of the battery list with a very high percentage of battery usage. Every time. Not sure what that would be.
Very frustrating. Maybe I should try a hard reset.
Mine has lost 30% in 36 hours, everything turned on except 5G as I'm nowhere near a 5G signal. Which seems about right for my normal usage.

When you updated to MIUI 12 did you do a reset after the update or just a straight update?

MIUI 12 was released within a few days of me getting the handset - I don't remember doing a hard reset, but it is possible. Definitely didn't after the newest update to 12.0.3 though.
