S10E stand-by battery drain. Let's get on top of this. - Samsung Galaxy S10e Guides, News, & Discussion

So, I have a Exynos variant of the S10E and I'm having mixed result with battery life:
If I use my phone a lot (and I mean a lot) for example when I'm traveling i get about 6 hours of SoT which is great with a 3.100mah battery and heavy usage.
However on a regular day the phone just seems to discharge itself when in standby mode and I don't even reach 3 hours of SoT.
My setup is simple: all apps are disabled when on standby except for WhatsApp, Telegram and some e-commerce stuff and in the Battery stats "Android OS" in on top of everything (except for screen).
Are you having the same issue? Did you manage to find the cause? Let's discuss it.

This solution was posted on the S10 forum and certainly helped me.
There's a bug that stops the phone from going into a deep sleep mode post making a call (audio/video) on apps like WhatsApp, Skype et al. The solution for the time being is to reboot the phone once before going to bed. I tried a lot of other things but had a ~2% hourly standby drain which reduced to <5% overnight after figuring out this solution. I have both WiFi and Bluetooth on at night.
You may try to play around with the battery saving tweaks in ONE UI but nothing worked as well as this has. Hopefully there'll be a more practical fix to this soon.
Cheers!

Hi! Thanks for your feedback.
I have my S10E scheduled to reboot every night but this doesn't seem to fix the issue and I also don't use whatsapp/telegram voice/video calls, so I don't think is is quite the issue.
There's probably something else preventing deep sleep, but I think that waiting for an update from Samsung will be my best bet

That's interesting. There are over two dozen people on the s10 page confirming this to have solved their drain.
For how many days have you had your device? Mine took a while to understand my usage pattern
I am currently getting over 5 hours SoT over 18-20 hours now, it was ~3 hours previously.

I'm having the same issue. No video calls and still losing ~2% per hour. Restart doesn't help.

Mine too, lost 3% in under an hour sitting in my pocket doing nothing. As usual the battery stats are not much use.

There's a bug with the proximity sensor. The phone gets turned on automatically in the pocket which might cause battery drain.
BTW putting the phone on battery saver (Medium power saving) mode stops battery drain. Until we get a fix from Samsung this seems like a worthy option.

Nope. It's not only when sitting in the pocket. Basically put it on a table and the battery will drain.

There's people on the S10 forum reporting a much better battery performance after a software update (ASC8) on the Exynos S10 / S10+ (see here or here) that should fix the drain issues. Do you know if they are rolling it out also for the S10e Exynos?

It seems ASC8 has been stopped, and they are releasing ASCA. For now it has only released for Germany firmwares. Let's see what's new in this update. Regards

Same issue
I have the same problem, when phone is in use it gets great SoT of around 6 hours, but when not in use throughout the day battery still drains very quickly. I was hoping the update will fix it , but even after updating, nothing changed. Hopefully there is a solution soon.

Seems like battery drain issue was fixed in the latest update ASCA. Mine was previously draining 15% overnight. Now it only drained 4% in 8 hours!! Which is pretty amazing.

Anyone have the Hong Kong model G9700? I've noticed standby drain is quite high.

I have German ASCA version, but battery is draining awfully. I use both SIM cards and loose 25 percent half a day being in standby-mode.

Expected at least 5 hours of SOT from a phone at this price point. This is bad. Even with the second sim turned off, battery drains heavily.

I was also having pretty bad battery drain, 15% overnight. But after the ASCA update I'm getting about 5% overnight, maybe it's just my phone?

Used this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/galaxy-s10-battery-optimisation-guide-t3911988
After i made the tweaks the standby is decent compared to my OP6

I disabled bixby on the Maine screen 4 hours ago and I do have a feeling my battery od much better. Will see...

ASDA update seems to help with drainage for me.
Using 970U1 TMB version. Attached is typical usage for me last few days. I get another 6-8 hours sot average by 15% or so and about ~5% overnight drain

S10e Weird 999:MAILBOX_CP2AP Wakelock
Not sure why the "Android OS" always so high usage, I think in normal case, it should be lower than "Android System"..
And by using Battery Historian, I saw this kernel wake up, does anyone knows what's that?
I'm having a lot of RILJ_ACK_WL too.. Sigh.

[Q] Help with identifying Nexus S i9020a Battery Drain

Running Stock ICS 4.1.2 on Nexus S i9020A on AT&T US.
The battery was fine till about a few months back, but of late, it is draining @ around 8-10% per hour on standby!. I originally thought JB was causing the drain, and switched to ICS, and finally to GB. But the drain is consistent across all three.
There is also accelerated battery drain if my phone is completely switched off. If I leave the battery in the phone after powering off, the battery goes from 100 - 0 in less than 4 hours. Thinking the battery might have gone bad, I bought another oem battery, but that is exhibiting the same behavior.
This leads me to think there might be a hardware issue with my phone. I am tired of keeping the phone plugged in at all times, and am ready to throw this out the window and get another phone. As a last ditch effort, I wanted to post this here to see if I can get any kind of feedback/confirmation on this before I buy another phone. Other users are reporting 1-2% battery drain on standby, so 8-10% drain is unacceptable by any standard.
I have attached some screenshots from today when the battery was at 20% after about 9 hours. For this test, I did the following last night:
1. uninstalled all apps I downloaded
2. turned off WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, sync, auto brightness ( set to the minimum brightness)
I charged the phone fully, and then left it on standby, with minimal usage - I think I made a 2 minute call, checked my email once, and read some rss feeds for about 5 minutes in the 9 hours I tested it.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
I know I'm not giving any advice here but I just wanted to let you know I'm in the same boat. No matter what ROM GB/ICS/JB I lose too much battery per hour with the phone just on standby. There's no explanation for %10 battery drain per hour with pretty much everything off (wifi, data, gps, nfc, background data, etc)
I have tried everything and now I must admit I've given up. I'm just going to ride out CM 10.1 until I can decide on a new phone, most likely the Nexus 4 or HTC One.

Bro, just replace the battery, buy a new one!
Doesn't seem like a software issue to me, sadly.
That confirms my suspicion. I guess it is time to start looking for a new phone. Thanks!

Yeah, your phone doesn't seem to be doing much while asleep. 20 minutes screen on, 35 minutes active, yet battery down to 21%. My battery would be at 90% with that sort of usage. Since you changed the battery (I'll assume it's a decent quality battery, although a cheap battery could be in cause), there's not much left.
Have you tried switching 3G off? 3G seems to SUCK the life out of these Nexus S batteries like no tomorrow.
But I suspect it's a hardware issue with the Nexus S phones. I have WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G and auto-sync all shut off and a static wallpaper and I will lose 20% of my battery in 7-8 hours.
Battery is kernel related. Try changing your I/o scheduler to row and governor to smartassv2. If you don't have those options then look for a kernel that does...air kernel and matrix should suffice.
NO SOLUTION so far
A friend was having the same issue, gave him the battery of my nexus s ... it lasted him for 7-8hrs max whereas it gives me 1 day~ on 2G and normal use without gaimng . So my guess like his mobile your mobile may have some component which is short and draining out the battery . I have been trying to look around for answer but so far no luck. So better check it with another batteryif you can before purchasing a new one.
Vampire test
If anyone is investigating why their Nexus S suddenly starts draining the battery in a matter of hours, BEFORE spending a ton of time (like I did) trying to diagnose what software problem you might have, do the vampire test, as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42586314
I wasted days before coming across this test on this forum, and it proved it had to be a hardware fault.
I have two healthy batteries, both hold a charge for days (probably weeks) when not inserted in the phone, but pop one in the phone, leave it powered off, and within 6 hrs it's dead. So frustrating, and sad to see this phone go.

Mi 10 Lite overnight battery drain on MIUI 12

I recently got a Mi 10 Lite and the battery seems to drain about 20% every night which seems very excessive to me. Last night for example it was on 71% when I went to sleep at 12 am and woke up 7 hours later to see it on 50%. I installed Battery Guru to help give more insight as I don't think MIUI's battery stats are the most accurate and it seems Xiaomi's security center is sitting at the top with 72% battery usage. This seems very high to me.
I do have a pi hole server on my network so is it possible that something on my phone is trying to phone home and can't get through?
The only thing that is on at night is wifi - GPS, bluetooth even 5G is off.
Has anyone experienced this on their device? I know I can try a Xiaomi.eu rom but I wanted to keep things as stock as possible for sometime.
I am wondering what else I can try?

I updated mine to Global 12.0.3 last week and mine seems to be losing a lot of battery overnight. Sync is turned off and there's minimal apps on my phone anyway. Mine seem to lose 20-30% overnight and it didn't before i updated.
Mine has lost 9% since it turned on at 7am this morning - so 8 1/2 hours. I'll leave it on overnight tonight, but your loss does seem excessive. I'm also on 12.0.3 Global.
Did a bit of an experiment last night. Put my phone on airplane mode and then turned WiFi back on. My phone only lost 2% battery during 8 hours overnight. I understand the cell radio uses a fair bit of battery but I wouldn't have thought 20% in 8 hours overnight in standby.
Is it possibly my sim card that might need updating, it is 4 or 5 years old? Unless it's just MIUI12 that doesn't play well with certain radios? Either way it definitely seems to be a radio issue.
I have noticed that when it's in standby for a long time with the cell on the MIUI Security Center jumps to the top of the battery list with a very high percentage of battery usage. Every time. Not sure what that would be.
Very frustrating. Maybe I should try a hard reset.
Mine has lost 30% in 36 hours, everything turned on except 5G as I'm nowhere near a 5G signal. Which seems about right for my normal usage.

MIUI 12 was released within a few days of me getting the handset - I don't remember doing a hard reset, but it is possible. Definitely didn't after the newest update to 12.0.3 though.

Note 20 Ultra (Exynos) poor battery life

Anyone here have any tips to increase the battery life of my Note 20 Ultra? Barely get 3.5 hours of SoT despite being a medium power user. Just scrolling through social media and watching youtube. Shouldn't that get me way more SoT than what I currently experience?
Use the function to let the apps go in deep sleep, this will give the battery a big boost, another good thing to do is a full factory reset, I'm getting in between 6-8 hours a day in battery life. (I'm on the android 11 beta though)

I tried the first option already. I also did a factory reset like 3 times. I even sent my device for repair but they couldn't find any issues and it peformed to Samsung standards according to the repair service.
Yet I still average 3.5 hours SoT with below medium usage.
Sold that garbage phone. Now got the Find X2 Pro and I'm getting 6 hours SoT on the first charge with the same usage.
Give the battery some time to optimize. After 3 to 4 weeks the battery has improved on a daily basis. I constantly get around 6 to 8 hours SoT with a full day's use (over 20 hours total usage including spotify background usage of around 2 hours). Over the weekend from morning to evening on the phone, I got 11 hours SoT - 16 hours total usage - mostly streaming netlix and youtube and doing nothing else with the phone. Phone on medium power saving, which is more than what I need for my usage (emails, lots of streaming netflix & youtube, calls etc.). If you do gaming, you should try to leave battery saving on optimized.
Also noticed that same battery tech used in note 10 plus. Friends of mine who use that phone still get amazing battery life after a full year of use. They also saw noticeable battery improvement from after one month of full use. No idea why this happens. Also I exchanged my first one because of the battery issue after 3 weeks of use. With the replacement I gave it a full month and saw a huge improvement!!!
I sold my Note 20 Ultra a few days ago and bought the Oppo Find X2 Pro and on the first day 5-6 hours SoT and now on average 6-7 hours. **** Samsung.

On standby took 3 days no charge. On 4th beta.
I also sold mine exynos... Wlan is okay but if you outdoors and use mobile data (5g off!) the phone cant hold its Charge. Its an amazing phone (looks nice, feels nice, fast, but a little hotter than other phones wich is okay... But if i must charge two times a day... Yes tried factory reset, Medium battery save,debloatin...) its sad that Samsung has gone with this bad exynos...
Surprisingly, despite having google play services at the top of my battery usage and running constantly, I'm surprised how good this is on Exynos. Think I seem to have hit the golden trade off between usage and settings. Had 22 hours standby, 3 hours screen on and approximately 45% battery left. Had 18 hours standby and 6 hours screen on the day following. Adaptive power kicks in at around 11pm and seems to be a very good trade off. No noticeable slowdown whatsoever.
More than happy.
First day
Following day, same charge
I read somewhere that the adaptive battery setting actually makes the battery life worse for some users (i guess this is subjective). Have you run the phone without adaptive battery saving?

On my 10+ running on Pie the only power setting is for the display/cpu power mod, Optimize.
Any other power management screws up functionality and increases battery consumption.
I simple close apps when done, sometimes not even that.
All buckets show as active; Android automatically handles them; no 3rd party power management needed.
Actually solving excessive battery use takes a lot more effort than flipping the Device Care toggles which if active only complicates the task of finding the hogs, causing excessive power usage as well as causing unpredictable behavior with apks. This doesn't show up immediately but over a course of days it seems.
Only fast charging is toggled.
Eventually all 3rd power management apps cause conflicts with the native Android system as far as I have observed.
Just feel good junk that causes problems rather than fixes them.
One may have been part of the cause of a boot loop that cost me 2 back to back reloads...
-No Thanks-

Question Battery life since the last update

All was so good,
I was able to hold 2 days with my use (it was incredible, with my s10 I held 24h).
And, then, last update...
And now, in one night of sleep 25-30% of drain ??? Oo
What is that Samsung ? Are you aware like u destroy ur product with this... especially when you advertise about the terrific battery life of the s10 plus ?

I had my S10+ that ever had bad battery life, my s21+ looks like is much better, having 25% of drain in standby means there is an app that is causing that, when you talk about your last update, you should explain which version of firmware do you have now.
My T-Mo USA S21+ gets really great battery life. No change with the latest (AUAG) USA firmware. My S10 got very good battery life (24 Hrs +) but the S21+ (so far) gives me 2 days with MANY hours of screen on time.
Here's a partial dump of a discharge to 10%:
I'm using the exynos variant. I bought the phone on 13th Feb. The battery life is really realty bad for a 4800mah device. I was getting a expecting a decent battery life. But I'm getting like 4.5hrs SOT for 10.5 hours usage which is like half of what snapdragon verison is giving. This sucks. Should have waited for op9pro. Made a huge mistake.!!

No, that is with Adaptive Motion Smoothness (120Hz) turned on.
I thought maybe my AOD was adding too much Screen On time, giving me a very misleading value, so in one of the tests I made i just played a few movies, and I still got hours and hours of battery life. I have no idea why there is such a variance.
Edit: So I thought of two things to mention. I run my screen brightness at about 35%. If you run yours much higher, that could effect your results significantly. If you use your phone outside a lot and it's set to automaticly adjust its brightness, that could set the screen brighness very high (for when you're outside). Also, I have bluetooth turned off.
2nd Edit: I ran another test last night and I'm surprised to report that there was no significant difference at full screen brightness versus my normal 35% brightness. I had Netflix playing for 3 hours at normal brightness followed by 3 hours at full brightness and the slope of the battery level curve is essentially the same. I'm at a lost to explain this as well as it's been my experience that screen brightness significantly affects power usage.
fwiw
My battery life seems okay but charging is very slow. I've never had so much trouble getting up to a full charge

I did some tests the other night and much to my surprise turning up the screen from my usual 35% to full didn't make much of a difference.
I'm in the habit of using the "Close all" function in the recent apps screen almost all the time. Maybe that makes a difference?
I'm trying all the scenarios to reach that level of battery life but I go out for atleast 3 hrs a day. So I use my phone in mobile data as well. That also contribute. Yeah closing all applications all the time prevent unnecessary background process. That may actually help in apps like Twitter and Instagram.
Here is the latest I have managed . I removed one of the sim and used carefully . This is the best I have managed so far. But again, I use it outdoors with mobile internet for atleast an hour of screen time. 3 hours of outdoor usage . I'm still not sure if it's a good battery life but I will take it.
As a new S21+ owner I can say that I have had great battery life so far consistently getting 7.5-8 sot. This is with the latest march update.

Hi. Looking at your screenshot, it seems you are using an Indian variant. I do not want to get into specifics, but Indian networks are far more congested compared to other countries. So the modem has to work 4 times as hard compared to say the US. Also, dual sims nearly halve the standby time. So the usage you have is fine and I wouldnt worry too much about it.
Have anyone tried disable auto optimize app daily and disable adaptive battery.
Some say it really improve the battery on the previous samsung gen. I'm going to try it. And report to all of you guys.
Just came up to xda to search about anything related to battery and didn't find the solution yet.
Sometime I got a good battery like about 6 hours sot. The other day it just to bad only around 4 hours. It seems auto optimize overreacting to apps and make it closed and open daily causing a worst battery live. And the adaptive battery just seems not good at all in some report.
My best so far today, 10h of SoT doing mostly multimedia stuff. Exynos, 4G, 60Hz, April update. No power saving mode.

Question Possible cause for the delay in the Jan update?

Google Pixel 7 & Pixel 6 'excessive idle battery drain' issue
Google is currently investigating the issue of excessive standby or idle battery drain with various Pixel 7, Pixel 6, and other models.

i thought that was just me , glad I'm not alone on this . also read some are experiencing bluetooth issues aswell
Mine's not too bad but then I have a choke-chain on it so to speak. #1 thing imo is to restrict google gms and use aggressive doze settings, allowing the occasional 'maintenance' sync thru wifi (set to turn off at screen-off). Naptime may be oldish but he keeps it working...esp his magisk module for dozing google! BetterBatteryStat has now been updated for A13 and more! Battery Guru is also a gem. If ur not rooted, u still have adb perms for BG and BBS to help. I also don't have much of any 5G connectivity so I changed network pref. to 4G/LTE.

I'm not rooted.
How would BBS or BG help with the draining?
And is Naptime effective without root?
BBS doesn't 'do' much but it's a great tool to see what's using batt., how much and when...incl. details of any wake-locks that may be keeping your phone from entering/staying in dozie/deep sleep. It can give you percentages starting at boot, unplug, last full charge (variable) and almost anything u could want. With ADB perms., you don't miss out on much vs. root. BG is just a good all-round battery app. that can also keep charge session stats and set an alarm for what min/max charge levels but can't actually stop charging...just an alarm so u can keep from maxing to 100% every time...extends batt. longevity big time. I'll try n find some good links that explain the dynamics muuch better than I can...
I'm happy with battery stats. I use Battery Guru to check, but it usually reports 15-30 minutes extra SOT than system settings. Either is very good. Stock with no root, still December. Last few SOTs:
010623 10h 18m 100 to 10
010723 11h 35m 100 to 8
010923 11h 10m 100 to 8
011123 10h 57m 100 to 0
011323 10h 53m 100 to 10
011423 11h 56m 100 to 10
011823 10h 28m 100 to 7
012023 10h 46m 100 to 10

is it safe to let the battery get so low before charging ? i thought it shouldn't go below 20% or is that a bit of a myth
I've gone from 100 to 10 with my 4a and 6a since day 1. I've never noticed battery depletion other than an oddball app hit.

In terms of longevity of the battery itself (battery health), as opposed to battery drain, many people think that not letting your battery get below 20% and not charging above 80% is the way to go. Also, frequent, shorter charges are better than longer charges for the battery health, according to many of these same people.
The way I charge depends on how long I intend to keep the phone. I usually shoot for a once every 2 year update cycle. Since I'm not a super heavy phone user and don't plan to keep phones more than 2 yrs...I've adopted a 90% max and 15% min charge strategy. Heavy users or those planning to keep their phone like 3 or 4yrs may want to stick to 80%/20% or somewhere in between.
Here is a great write-up on best charging practices.

slightly off topic again but following the battery care theme .. car ( lithium ) batteries .. 20-80% to prolong their life span ( How to get the most out of your electric car battery article ) , so i suppose the same principle applies across the board .
thanks everyone , who says ya can't teach an old dog new tricks
Could battery saver Itself be the issue? I received the update and do not have any battery issues or idle drain..
Battery saver is off - how ironic
Not sure, I have the battery saver on and DO have the drainage issue.
I got it in the UK , unlocked global , and a list of updates from Google January updated models. Nothing about battery fix / issues ..

Mine still has not seen the Jan update. At this point, with the Feb update coming out early, the 6a might just skip Jan entirely.
Link seems to imply its mostly just the 5g drain issue thats been around since release. Sometimes blamed on the type of modem google is using or the software around it.
My 5g stays off unless if i'm signal searching. With it on the phone seems to try too hard to connect to iffy 5g instead of going with a stable LTE.
I actually turned 5G off, unless I'm going to be streaming.
CAn't be since mine's on Wifi most of the time and I have the drain
