Create Goldcard without the phone? - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

My Fender got bricked by flashing the radio and spl and now I can only get to the bootloader menu.
I tried the sappimg.nbh method and it didn't worked, tried with three sd cards including a Kingston one.
The error the Phone says that the wrong Main Version is Older.
The only other option I have now to unbrick it is using a goldcard but without the cell phone booting up I am not sure If I can make one.
Now my question.... Is there a way to make a goldcard without my mytouch fender?

If you can make it to the fastboot screen, you're not bricked. Bricked implies you can't do anything, zilch, nada, nothing.
You can still do adb shell in fastboot mode in order to get the info from the phone.
Read the link in my signature very carefully if you're trying to root your fender. There are currently no (working) customized roms for the fender, and your best bet is the rooted stock copy.

ADB shell in fastboot?
are you sure you can use adb shell in fastboot? I thought that was why there were fastboot commands.
Either way if it's possible to make a Goldcard without the phone, I need to know too. I get the "FAILURE remote not allow" error in fastboot with ANY commands and can't boot to recovery...
Unless of course I can use ADB shell in fastboot, then i'm back in business, i'll try it later this evening

OK, I gave it a shot and it does not work, can't use adb shell or any adb commands with the phone in fastboot, must use fastboot commands.
So if anyone here knows how to make a Goldcard without using the phone to make it or can send me a Goldcard from their phone I would greatly appreciate it... I'm SOL without it.

I'm just a tad confused though... if you didn't have a gold card to begin with, how did you get where you are now, since you couldn't flash anything new on a perfected SPL to begin with.

So... It is possible to make the goldcard? I can only access the fastboot menu no the recovery.

If you can't get into shell on the phone you wouldn't be able to generate the code needed to make a goldcard... it should have been the first thing you did before you started to flash anything.

Gold card isnt going to fix this issue. You need to find a rom that is a later version that the one on the phone.

If you know someone with an android phone take your sd card around and get the information you need using their phone. I made mine with a windows CE device using Haret works fine.

The last two times I had to make a goldcard (MT3G LE and MT3G v1) , it seemed to be specific to not only the model of the phone but your exact phone and SD card combination, thus how it generated a code to be decyphered and then written onto the front of the card with the hex editor. So it was my impression that you could not simply make a card with another phone and then use it on yours.

Then the phone is dead right?

Don't give up hope yet... The CID is unique to each card, if you can read the CID from another android phone or even a Palm, WinMo device, etc. then you can still make a Goldcard with your PC and use it in your phone.
From all the research I've done it's just not possible, to get the CID from the Card with your PC.

How sure are you about that. I made a gold card with my 4GB SDHC when I had the MyTouch 3G (white v1), then when I upgraded to the MT3G LE Fender, I could not use the same card again as it was, I had to redo the process and ended up with a new CID on the same card, but diff phone and once I made that a gold card with the new information, then it worked in my Fender. That's why I'm skeptical bout "generic" gold cards.

Well if that's the case is there anyone from this forum (preferebly from the US) that I can mail the phone to so he can fix it for me?
I can pay either via paypal or mailing the money.

Ive been there too, my phone is semi bricked and the only way to unbricked is using goldcard, and im using fedora to see the sdcard CID to make the goldcard. and it works like a charm
* sorry for my bad english

Fedora is a distribution of linux, basically sounds like he's saying can get the CID of an SD card from *nix or BSD.

Tell you what... The fender has defanately weded out the people who cant pay attention to instructions. If you didnt make a goldcard... How did you downgrade?
You couldnt install a recovery so you didnt wipe, you didnt install another rom over the top..
Id laugh my ass off if you just reboot it and leave it alone and it works.
Sound slike you should stop trying and give your phone to someone who can use it.

Just because he isn't as computer savvy as you doesn't give you the right to belittle him.
Don't be such an ass.

Upgrade your 32A (any version) to Official TW Sense ROM

it's simple, make a goldcard, go to the flashboot mode, and start the flash with the RUU, that's all
goldcard will ignore the CID, so no more 131 CID error anymore.
the update has nothing to do with the version of SPL or RADIO, its only a matter of CID.
good luck

It does work! maybe your gold card is not OK
Maybe some more instructions ? How to get "goldcard" and what shall we all do to get it wok on our 32A`s
Goldcard is microSD card that have special code in it. This code is recognised by the phone and the phone disables every security lock it haves thus allowing the user to load any rom in it! It can be dangerous and you can brick the device if you use wrong rom! But in my case, I restored my device!
I have test many cards, change the code, but nothing still not work, i fallow this how-to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683

Hello, so you've done this then? Did it change your SPL and radio afterwards? Thinking about doing this to my 32a for the bluetooth+GPS, but I want to keep my SPL. TIA
The method need a premise!
Please make sure that your spl is S-OFF !Cause S-ON makes you cannot flash rom at the fastboot mode!

Not needed! My SPL was and still is S=ON! I flashed the device with my goldcard without any problems!
This method WILL flash both SPL and Radio roms! It will flash everithing! Even the splash screen is HAMI now!
for those who didn't make it.
check ur goldcard if it's REALLY successfully made. I made servals goldcards which can be read on my computer, but they cant be read by G2, that's the problem
I've made the goldcard and I have the RUU downloaded...but before I go and risk bricking my phone, is there anyway to make sure the gold card is working?
plug ur goldcard back to ur magic to see if its regonized, if it appears damaged, means thats not successful.
I tried making a goldcard last night but gave up >.< when i try to run
"adb shell cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid" from cmd it gives me "error: device not found"
I fixed that by going into usb mode on the phone and restarting cmd and adb, but ended up failing with custom ID error even with goldcard
Well the phone saw the card, of course it was empty. But it still didn't work, I tried the RUU and watching the phone everything it attempted to update failed. Luckily nothing was changed so the phone is still in working order.
I tried 2 SD cards to be goldcard and both get custom ID error, can't think of what else to do, or why to even bother when caSense rom is so good
Now my phone is RUU mode , don´t now who to resolve this problem .
how to make S-OFF then? I've followed the goldrom guide twice and still no luck! Also all the links to Haykuro's magic rootme rom are broken (tried to root to get s-off)

Hacking HTC Magic like breaking into fort NOX!!

I've spent the last few hours searching for the ways and guides on how to hack the HTC Magic and i think im about lost.
first of all i used to have the htc touch hd and it was as simple as running a program to get it to the right SPL then flashing it then throwing on a new ROM.
Now for the Magic i'm being told to put an image on an sd card the im told to make a goldcard but dont format the gold card? ive got the 8gb card that came with it! thats it.
im using windows 7 and ive tried to use HTC Sync but it wont detect the device.
ive gone in and updated the drivers with the ones that were recommended on here and still no detection
the device is a 32b
Radio 2.22.19.26I
hboot 1.33.0006 (SAP10000)
Australian Vodafone one
ive got no idea where to go from? what the hell do i do? i followed the guide here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
i assume the drivers did install correctly as i type ADB Devices in my cmd box and it comes up with my devices Serial number.
after that it tells me how to use adb and fastboot? why do i want to knlow this? i just want to be able to update the rom and be able to put whatever applications i want on it and change the startup screen as well as a heap of themes and the likes.
i guess basically what im asking is whats the easiest way to root this device? i dont know where to go from when ive adb'd the device...
ive no idea what rom to put on or what to do. also its a 1.6 in the info box when i check it. so im assuming its the donut version.
take it i need to get it back to 1.5 but im struggling to do this..
these guides seem awefully difficult...
To root the phone, I followed this guide: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
There is a link for Donut rooting also. Hope it helps.
you shouldn't have any issues with that spl, only that you have the vodafone au OTA donut
read up on one click - very quick and easy. you need to revert to cupcake before you can use flashrec though...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
Htc Sync didn´t detect my phone either but i managed to hack it via goldcard procedure and i had a perfected spl 1.33.0014 32a device.
Now i got a rooted phone but Sync still doesn´t detect my phone and I´ve used 3 different PCs and different OSs - XP, Vista and Win 7.
i followed the one click. but it says to use htc sync which doesnt work. as im in windows 7 even with the updated drivers, with the goldcard thing i only have the sadisk card that came with the phone.
what i will try is turning the device into its boot loader and then runnning the RUU they supplied with the one click and see what happens.
just tried it with it in boot loader but usb isnt detected will try it with the actual phone on and see what happens
Edit: tried that also, still doesnt work just running the RUU file from unlockr.
I have a vodafone magic 32b with the 1.6 OTA upgrade. The guide on unlockr requires using a nbh file but the guide doesnt have a link to an nbh for vodafone only roger and it says that they couldnt find a vodafone one. I was also trying to use the relentless rooter but couldnt get it to work.
BTW are you using the newest version of HTC Sync because that is the only version that comes with the drivers for windows 7.
also do i need a specific RUU or anything? will the one i downgrade too the 1.5 be fine to use in australia?
i used this one

Hi
Try reading through this guide:
http://vivekgolecha.blogspot.com/2009/08/as-promised-i-said-i-would-come-up-with.html
Especially this part:
*Tip: If your computer says the drivers are installed but it is installing the wrong drivers, I recommend Uninstalling the drivers using this program, USBDeview, then plug the phone in again and choose the correct drivers in the SDK USB Drivers folder
Click to collapse
The drivers are in C:\AndroidSDK\usb_driver or similar path.
The gold card method worked for me (I have an HTC Magic 32A), but I think I should point out that in step 13 of the gold card guide make sure that you choose Removable Disk under Physical Disk.
Here's also a guide to installing proper drivers:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Good luck
EDIT: By the way the guide says that you have to have a spare microSD card, because after transforming the microSD card to a "Gold Card" it can't be used for anything else. This is not true. If you have an microSD card adapter (to be able to access it from your computer), just put it in your computer's expansion card slot and format it as FAT32. This way you don't have to have to microSD cards to go through the procedure. If you don't have an adapter and you instead have to microSD cards, you can format the gold card through the phone, once you've got it up and running again, making it a normal, fully-working microSD card again

I dont beleive that vodafone use the RUU because they are upgraded OTA but if they did it would have to be a vodafone branded version. What i think you need is a sappimg.nbh as i heard there is a version that will work for all magics, ill have a look and try find you one. You do that. I had a lot of trouble getting my phone flashed and rooted too at first, but after these steps you'll get the hang of it and it'll pretty much be a walk in the park next time
By the way don't waste your time on the one click method as it only works on a few certain SPL's.
Upgrade to the 1.33.2010 ENG SPL in the guide and you can flash most ROMs using fastboot and Amon_RA's Recovery ROM (if v1.5.2G doesn't work try v1.3.2 and v1.2.0). I wasn't able to flash and replace the stock recovery ROM until I upgraded to the 6.35.x Hero radio and 1.76.2007 SPL. If you can't either, you should still be able to use fastboot in USB mode to boot into Amon_RA's recovery ROM. Just place for example recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img in C:\AndroidSDK\Tools (or similar directory), turn off your phone, boot into fastboot by holding BACK and pressing POWER and connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable then type: fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img or whatever version you're using (in Windows cmd command prompt). The phone will reboot and boot into the custom recovery ROM. Remember to pull out the USB cable or you won't be able to access the SD card from within the recovery program.

Hm??? I've used "One-click" myself because I have PerfectSPL (still have - 1.33.0010; and I don't have second microSD for "goldcard" and no willingnes to do it) and I've read procedure twice just now but nowhere I see anything about HTCSync ( I have no Windows so it could be hard to use HT CSync on Linux ;P )
So what are You talking about when You mention "one-click"? dunno
the one click procedure is on www.theunlockr.com its just what they call their way to hack the phone, however it doesnt work due to windows 7 ill also contact google/htc to see if they can help get the sync sorted.
Yeah, right, I'm reading this same article 3rd time and I don't see HTCSense anywhere unless You are reffering to comments then good luck but comments is not the procedure.
PS: are we talking about this same article? http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
HTC Synd v2.18 should be working with Windows 7, but here's a workaround:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/
And another guide to get USB connection working:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
So... How did it go?
i get to here
(wait for the it to show a serial number underneath, if it doesn’t then reinstall the drivers from section I). Then type:
adb shell
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
5. A code will display, write the code down (MAKE SURE TO WRITE IT DOWN EXACTLY!)
i get this
cat/sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid NOT FOUND
thats as far as i can get. i found another guide but it talks about having RC29 or RC7 to root the phone however i have DRC92
firmware 1.6, baseband 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I kernal 2.6.29.00479.g3c7df37

What I don't understand is - what's a goldcard?
Sorry for my stupid question, but I allways see "goldcard here, goldcard there"... but what's it??
Is it an SDCard which is able to self run flashing a particular radio/SPL? Can you use it with a perfected SPL? If yes, why don't all just use this method? And also, in case of brick, can it be used to unbrick it? (Dis)advantages?
Thanks

Yep, it is. It doesn't work with every single perfected SPL though
People always use brick incorrectly. If you brick it, your phone is dead, gone, not usable. You effed it up completely and the only way to restore it is to like mess with hardware.
In the case though, where you soft brick it (for example: no ENG spl and you need to flash an RUU or w/e to get it working again) then you'll need a goldcard. Just do what you do and get an ENG SPL in and you won't need a goldcard. With ENG SPL, You can do fastboot commands, which does wonders =)
If it helps, you guys can only really brick your phone if you play with radio and SPL. So while your rooting it, I'll just let you know (This gave me peace of mind..) Don't be nervous, I was the first time! Then I found out you can only brick it if you don't follow instructions and put on the wrong spl/radio.

I don't think I can get the gold card to work...

I don't think I can get the gold card to work...
I got an extra MSD from my boss, all he had was a SanDisk 2gb, and I tried the gold card method on both my work laptop and work desktop (both XP). I could not get the SDK to work (prolly the issue) on either, maybe I just don't know what I'm doing with that, so I got the CID vid Terminal Emulator on the MT3G. I follow the steps to flip it, made sure the first two were "00"s, and did the hex edit. I then loaded the file, and I still get "Older Version Is Newwer"... Same both times.
I guess it could be the card, dunno.
When I try to run the SDK, it gives an error that a file can't be reached. DL'ed it, placed it, nogo (both times). The drivers also won't install. I tried the UnLockr method, same.
So, basically, I can't use the SDK. I just got the CID from the emulator, hex-edited, and failed. Is my not being able to use the SDK the issue?
Anyone in Austin wanna help me with this? lol
Shouldn't be necessary...
I'm also having errors with getting two different sd cards to work. My errors are Model ID incorrect. I do have the SDK installed on my computer, but I don't think it's necessary as long as you are getting the correct cid from your phone for the sd card. I'm pretty sure you copied the cid correctly, or else you wouldn't get past the copying of the goldcard image. I wish there was more information on creating these damn goldcards. Both of my goldcards never asked me to reformat after copying the goldcard image to their boot sectors, so why can't we get root????

What is an SPL?
It's in simple terms the "security" of the phone. If you have a perfected SPL it's near impossible to root. If you turn your phone off then hold the back button and power at the same time a white screen with androids on skateboards will pop up and your phones information will pop up at the top. It will say something like hboot 1.33.0007 or the million others out there.

Hey all,
First up, apologies if this topic is buried somewhere, I searched to no avail.
K, issue: when attempting to make a gc I get to the step after you have sdk saved to the c/. However at the point where you type in command prompt: adb devices, it reports back as if nothing is connected. Now this is an indication that the drivers are not installed or missing. I have done everything I can think of and have read to do, uninstall - reconnect...no workie, tried to reinstall from the sdk drivers, again no good.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so were you able to fix it and if so can you help a brotha out. I mean I'm over here doing all kinds of cool flashing to my wifes HD2 and getting jealous.
Thanks in advance for any help you ask can provide

That thread that you directed me to didn't mention anything about support for the MT3G, looks like is a desire method. Although one person did say they were looking to do this on their evo in there but nothing came of it.
So is there any verification that this would work on a MT3G?

some carriers like the one I am on, locked down the software and one click does not work, so a gold card is needed, and a downgrade before one can root. I am on a regional carrier, cellular south and had to do this, the gold card was the hardest part, it was hard to find a brand that would take the software, pny worked for me...

It's not that the sd card wont take the software, the damn thing wont even recognize my phone, as if it isn't even there. There has to be something simple I am missing...I hope.
OMFG!!!!
