WTF? Windows Marketplace pricing - General Topics

I bought a few apps on Windows Marketplace (using Taels ROM on HTC Touch Pro) partly just to play with it, and partly because I like to support app developers...but...
WTF?
I bought one app "Guitar Fretboard Addict" for the heady price of US$19.39. Not really worth it as it turns out. A nice app, but $5-10 would have been way more reasonable. ...at least I'm assuming it's USD. I'm in Australia, and the receipt only says $19.39 (an odd number) and it hasn't appeared on my credit card yet. I'm in Australia, but I'll assume for now Microsoft is being US centric...
But then, (WTF?) I went to http://marketplace.windowsphone.com and was poking around, and there is the same app, for US$9.95! (Like, half price). Weird...so I log in with my passport account, and the price jumps to $19.39!! How special do I feel?
Has anyone noticed anything like this before? Any explanation? What prices do you US based folks see if you check Marketplace from your handheld?

Just a theory, but I'd guess that by logging in it converted the price from US dollars (the default) to Australian dollars based on your Live account settings.

That's the only semi-reasonable explanation I can think of (but can't confirm until it comes through on my CC statement).
However, even if true, that is one [email protected]&ED exchange rate. Given that the Aussie dollar is 92c US at the moment, it should be more like AU$11 or so, NOT AU$20.

I'm gonna have to agree this seems like a crock. I paid £424.80 without VAT at hantech.co.uk
Umm stay clear is my advice......with a "business email that is a yahoo email address. In the uk i always check for a VAT number, not sure if its the same over there, but there seems to be very little info about them......
What the hell is VAT? I see that on all the Europian sites. What exactly is it.

Value Added Tax. see the wiki description here.
VAT
Value Added Tax,
It's the equivalent of the State Sales Tax, however for the UK it's a massive 17.5% - OUCH
All sites in the UK show their registered VAT number, which is unique to that business. I purchased cheep software (MS Office) from a site once, didnt have a vat number, and the software turned out to be hacked.
The Real Deal Or Not!
Anybody know about this website, is it the real or not? uhhh! I think I will do some research on this website tomorrow............!
I call BS. If you think it's too good to be true, it probably is.
total BS! think about it.

In the Netherlands the legal thieves (government) take a humungous 19%
And they were even considering to raise it to 20%, but that had so much economic consequences that they didn't dare to do so.
But on-topic now: It has to be fake.
I bought the Raphael (HTC Touch Pro) for €602.= , est. £400,= or $870,=
That was almost the cheappest price possible in the netherlands.
So $450,= is almost 50% off, can't be legit.

First of all I would like to ask why are those cell phones so cheap and are they clones? Are they woking properly and can I use them to Europe?
Second how can you sell Xperia when the world premiere of that phone is in November?
How can I be sure that is secure? And what is the cost of delivery to Williamsburg VA? And how can I return it (if I'm not pleased) and have the full price back?"
Metrocellinc: "Thanks for your Inquiry.

You have been able to find phones at this price due to our Summer closeout sales (offer valid while stock last) We are Authorised sony dealers and we are currently on introductory sales into the market.

If yer looking for a cheap Raphael take a look at the Raphael Vendor Wiki
I keep that up to date weekly and at this time the top 3 cheapest sellers are Tiga Dua Cellular in Indonesia for €497.43 , 2Call from Netherlands for €576.00 and DigiTec of Switzerland for €585.60.
The most expensive I've seen is €739.00 in Portugal by Fnac.

Walmart Letstalk

Like many out there, I tried to purchase a Captivate from Walmart/Letstalk when they were advertising the ridiculously low off-contract price. Of course they did not honor it and that was expected. More than anything I was kind of annoyed that they told me I had to have an ATT contract in order to buy the phone there (so much for "Off Contract").
So I complained to the BBB on the basis that they changed their price up then back down then back up (skip to the last paragraph to skip any explanation of what I said). I mentioned that I understand if it was a pricing error then that's that, but the fact that it was posted twice (once after it was "fixed") combined with not finding wording stating that you must have a current ATT contract in addition to being told the first time that it was just an address issue, that I would like them to resolve the issue. My ideal resolution would be honoring the price (never expected) or at the very least fixing the wording on their site to make it clear that you needed an ATT account.
I sent the complaint to Walmart since if you navigate to their site from there, there is very little telling you that you are on a new site (letstalk.com) and also because it was the only way I could see to bring the issue to the attention of Walmart (short of sending a letter via snail mail).
Anyway, the resolution they offered was to give me 100 dollars off the purchase price (still need an ATT account though). I'm just posting this in case anybody else wants to give it a shot. I personally did not accept their offer (I can't anyway) and offered a middleground solution of them posting on their site that you need an ATT contract in order to purchase off contract.
100 bucks off? maybe they'll just give u a gift card and ask u to pay the retail price on the phone.
never mind

They offered $100 off for all those who ordered but didn't call in to cancel. But that's still $399.
I ended up paying $275 for an early upgrade in AT&T store.
As for AT&T account requirement, that's normal practice and since you can't get any unlock code anyway for Captivate (see other threads). So what's good to buy a Captivate without AT&T account.
turbo sim seems interesting though

I would assume so you dont have to extend your contract two years with att ,
If I can buy new phones every year (with $75 early upgrading fee), I have no problem extending my contract. It's not like I can't get any new phone until 2 years later.
FYI, my last upgrade was @ 10/2009 with 2-year contract. So, nine months for a new phone isn't too bad for me.
Verizon simply isn't an option for me (I need GSM phones for international travel). So, it's not like I have another carrier to sign on to.
I went the first day they released the phone and bought on contract at best buy, where they matched the price of the walmart website which free! The guy I bought from also told me they would match the off contract price. So I ended up just paying the tax for two phones. I honestly don't know what best buy's policy is on price matching, but the best buy mobile guy and his manager approved the price match.

What price was that? $149?
I see it in Wirefly for $99. Wonder if they would match that.Although I'd be willing to pay a bit more to get it locally.
To my surprise, BB has it in their store for $229. Anyone paying that has done zero research. I suppose there are poor souls that fit in that category.

@jlws90
I would contact your bank to let them know and get your credit card number cancelled and issued with a new one so that person doesn't have it.
I thought it looked dodgy, no VAT reg showing that would be one to inform HM customs about with the information about the person as shown above as not being vat registered is obviously highly illegal as well and they will do him for it.
Good retailers I can recommend in the UK are such as the obvious play.com and amazon.co.uk and mobile specific being mobilefun.co.uk and expansys.co.uk which you will never have any problems with, best to stick with them.
Not being VAT registered is not illegal. You only need to be, if you turn over £70,000 a year.
Yeah your right a site like that wont be turning over much and hopefully not turning anyone over.
You would expect a decent reputable retailer to have all the basic contact and address info up already and not use use messaging as the only means of communication.

[Q] Android Market Tmo Payment Expired?

Ok, so I have been searching all night but to no avail. Has anyone ran into an issue where their TMo Payment Account showed Expired in the Android Market? When going through my phone, the only option for payment I have is Credit Card. When going through browser It shows Credit Card and "Tmobile USA Expired" which is greyed out. I am current with my bill and have tried both USD and other curancy apps. No luck
Also, I am running new Android Market. Thanks for the help guys
I'm having the same issue. Can't seem to find anything on the google checkout site, android market site, or tmobile site.
Same here. Meh
new market bug perhaps? just checked on my G2 and google checkout is normal (on the old market)
if no one else has reported anything similar, would make sense that it's something with the new market considering most people are still using the old one at this point.
I called T-Mobile, they said it was nothing on there end. Currently talking with android support at Google to figure out what's going on.
Deleting the account from Google checkout, then using the old market to readd the account gives the same result, show the T-Mobile account as expired.
I was able to purchase SBP Shell through my Tmo account, so it seems this may just be an isolated issue

It seems that billing to the Tmo account only works with apps that list the prices in whatever currency your country uses. I was looking closer at the Titanium Backup Pro Key and it says you must use a payment option that accepts charges Swiss Francs. I guess T-Mobile USA only accepts charges in US dollars.
I looked into that but some USD apps I was still unable to purchase in that mannor
Same issue...possibly resolved.
I just ran into this when I was buying SwiftKey X. It advertised for $4.07 from their beta app link, then it was $3.99 in the market on the phone and $4.05 on the market through the pc.
When I went to pay with a card, it told me the total would be £2.48. I guess they're masking prices and not telling customers that it isn't available through carrier billing without the USD being the final choice.
any1 figure out a fix? i wanna buy fpse!
I'm in the same boat. It seems to work about once a month. My bill was paid two weeks ago so it makes no sense. After about two weeks of waiting it'll let me buy the same app that I w3as trying to buy when it said it was expired.

Samsung Pay Promotion Available for VZW Customers.

So it seems Samsung didn't forget about us VZW customers who missed out on the Samsung Pay free wireless charger promo.
Starting today (10/28), we are able to choose from one of the following:

or
$50 rebate for buying a wireless charger at a Verizon corporate store

Waiting on my confirmation email

I don't know. Something seems fishy about that website. Either way, I received the charger when I purchased the phone in August at Best Buy.

FoxFi Wi-Fi Tethering still working after updates
I'm on Verizon unlimited data, so I was sweating bullets. Just in case anyone else is apprehensive about receiving the software updates for Samsung Pay to work, I just thought I'd mention that I accepted and installed all available updates, and by all appearances, they did not "secretly" contain anything to prevent FoxFi from being able to Wi-Fi tether. I forgot that I used the Debloat tool to effectively disable automatic updates, so I just went back in there and re-enabled SDM.apk and SDMViewer.apk. (and ofcourse I went back in and turned updates off after Samsung Pay was installed/updated/setup)
-apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere, but frankly it can afford to be mentioned in several places.
Both?
Is there any place saying we can't sign up for both?
EDIT: Yes, I found it. I figured they would have it in fine print. What made me curious about the $50 rebate was if that will apply to the fast charger.
I'm having trouble understanding the $50 rebate offer. It states that you must buy the charger from a participating Verizon location, then states that Verizon online and Verizon corporate retail locations don't count for purposes of this offer. What does that leave, third party places?

I was confused about this too. It's sort of interesting. You actually illuminated the problem. You said "corporate retail locations" but the terms actually do not say that. That's an interpretation.
It says, "Offer only valid at authorized Verizon dealer retail locations. Offer not valid at Verizon corporate online or retail stores and national retailers."
The question is, does the word 'corporate' describe both online and retail? At first read it would seem that the answer is "yes." But, this doesn't make sense. What is a dealer retailer, vs. a corporate retailer? It seemed to me that a dealer would not be a 3rd party.
But, I looked on verizon's website to find store locations and they have the option when looking at stores "Include Authorized retailers." That's clearly the 3rd party stores (the ones that say "premium retailers" on their sign because they aren't corporate stores). And in the terms it called the valid stores, "authorized Verizon dealer retail locations" So now I'm leaning back to the "plain reading" interpretation. This was a very long way of saying, I'm agreeing with your conclusion.

The problem is, in the end, what you or I interpret doesn't mean a thing. We need clarification from the company running this promo. I'm going to email them.
Not that it does me any good, since none of my cards work with Samsung Pay yet, and I doubt they will before this runs out.
It's very simple guys. Any Verizon wireless store will work. What won't work is ordering it from the website or buying from a main Verizon branch which deals with cable and fios. There is a difference between a Verizon corporate store and a Verizon wireless store. Hope this helps clarify things.

Best Buy is not an authorized Verizon dealer. I got an email from Samsung after submitting my receipt stating that they were not and to re-try from an authorized dealer.
The problem is that none of the authorized Verizon dealers I have checked with (3 so far) locally have the basic non-fast charging charger in stock. Actually, it appears to be sold out when the Verizon store tech checked on-line for me. He was going to order it and print me a receipt to use for the promo.
So, I went ahead and purchased a wireless fast-charging charger at Best Buy since they matched Amazon's price of $49.99, hoping it would be eligible for the promotion.
When I signed up it didn't ask me for a reciept? Am I missing something? All I had to enter was the phone id and WiFi Mac address.

You can now get it for your phone no matter who the dealer is. Just go to the Samsung cell phone accessory Web site. The offer is right on top.
Has anyone gotten a confirmation email yet?
