Upgrade OS pocket pc (RUU file problem how to solve ) in Windows Vista
First of all, connect your device when it`s in bootloader.
next, open Windows Mobile Device Center and in connection settings uncheck Allou USB Connections.
next, goto contol panel-administrative tools-services and start windows mobile device connectivity and windows mobile device 2003 connectivity
next, goto device manager and find your device and update the driver to the one from AS 4, i attached it, wceusbsh.inf.
then, kill wmdc.exe with any taskmanager
You are Ready. run ruu or connect MTTY. I guess that vista default driver uses another port, not WCEUSBSH001, that`s why we have to use the old driver.

in the 64bit.rar there are drivers in the ruu-work-64bit folder and in the wce.zip. i tried both for my vista x64 system.

the ruu simply crashes while trying to connect to the device. luckily the flash didn't start yet.
Not that you need this in pictures, but someone may:

Anyways, I've got this fix working for the NVID ROM, but it won't work for other RUU-based upgrades, such as the one from PDAMobiz WM6 1.0. Perhaps there are different versions of the RUU utility that require or use different components.
Something else that is odd is that the drivers packaged in the "64 bit" rar are the same ones packaged in the VistaRUU.zip found in the Modaco link above, and which work on my 32-bit OS. So, they may not be 64-bit drivers at all.
Yeah I live in New Zealand and I think the 700wx here are different somehow. For example I don't think mine has a bootloader period.. I tried all 400 ways of getting it into bootloader and all I get is a reset back to normal screen no tricolour.
Weird but unless I can get it into bootloader first I don't think its going to get anywhere. Which my palm 700wx just doesn't have I think.
i managed to do it with vmware on vista. tried all these methods but the programs crashes all the time, luckily not frying my 818pro as well!
I have the same experience. The NVID RUU works, but al others don't. By the way, the NVID also work with only the "old" drivers installed, not dis-allowing USB connection, not starting in bootloader and not killing wmdc.exe.
I don't know for sure, I noticed the RUU Utility version is newer. But when I just switch the nb.nsk file, I get an error, or it crashes just like before. Can it has something to do with the fact that the NVID RUU updates the SPL as well?

Try running command prompt as Admin and type
bcdedit /set nointegritychecks on
Then try again to install the 64 bit driver. It should work
I have just found the answer for Prime2007, i have a telecom treo 700wx and the previous codes for the bootloader didnt work for me either however if you go into your dailpad and press ##8778# your phone will reboot into bootloader also there is not colored strips just the treo logo with some numbers at the top.
If you want to exit without making changes you will have to pull out your battery
Unfortunally this doesn't work, as mentioned, with things such as Radio ROM update only...
If anyone finds out how to make it work for those I'd be greatly appreciative.
hey guys .. i follows all your step . but i still cant run the ruu sucessfull .. help please.. thanks
completed the tutorial exactly, and continued taking the same problem.
I get the same error. Help please.

No have a solution?a new utility updater for Vista is posible?
Thanks.
I've spent the last few hours searching for the ways and guides on how to hack the HTC Magic and i think im about lost.
first of all i used to have the htc touch hd and it was as simple as running a program to get it to the right SPL then flashing it then throwing on a new ROM.
Now for the Magic i'm being told to put an image on an sd card the im told to make a goldcard but dont format the gold card? ive got the 8gb card that came with it! thats it.
im using windows 7 and ive tried to use HTC Sync but it wont detect the device.
ive gone in and updated the drivers with the ones that were recommended on here and still no detection
the device is a 32b
Radio 2.22.19.26I
hboot 1.33.0006 (SAP10000)
Australian Vodafone one
ive got no idea where to go from? what the hell do i do? i followed the guide here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
i assume the drivers did install correctly as i type ADB Devices in my cmd box and it comes up with my devices Serial number.
after that it tells me how to use adb and fastboot? why do i want to knlow this? i just want to be able to update the rom and be able to put whatever applications i want on it and change the startup screen as well as a heap of themes and the likes.
i guess basically what im asking is whats the easiest way to root this device? i dont know where to go from when ive adb'd the device...
ive no idea what rom to put on or what to do. also its a 1.6 in the info box when i check it. so im assuming its the donut version.
take it i need to get it back to 1.5 but im struggling to do this..
these guides seem awefully difficult...
To root the phone, I followed this guide: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
There is a link for Donut rooting also. Hope it helps.
you shouldn't have any issues with that spl, only that you have the vodafone au OTA donut
read up on one click - very quick and easy. you need to revert to cupcake before you can use flashrec though...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
Htc Sync didn´t detect my phone either but i managed to hack it via goldcard procedure and i had a perfected spl 1.33.0014 32a device.
Now i got a rooted phone but Sync still doesn´t detect my phone and I´ve used 3 different PCs and different OSs - XP, Vista and Win 7.
i followed the one click. but it says to use htc sync which doesnt work. as im in windows 7 even with the updated drivers, with the goldcard thing i only have the sadisk card that came with the phone.
what i will try is turning the device into its boot loader and then runnning the RUU they supplied with the one click and see what happens.
just tried it with it in boot loader but usb isnt detected will try it with the actual phone on and see what happens
Edit: tried that also, still doesnt work just running the RUU file from unlockr.
I have a vodafone magic 32b with the 1.6 OTA upgrade. The guide on unlockr requires using a nbh file but the guide doesnt have a link to an nbh for vodafone only roger and it says that they couldnt find a vodafone one. I was also trying to use the relentless rooter but couldnt get it to work.
BTW are you using the newest version of HTC Sync because that is the only version that comes with the drivers for windows 7.
also do i need a specific RUU or anything? will the one i downgrade too the 1.5 be fine to use in australia?
i used this one

Hi
Try reading through this guide:
http://vivekgolecha.blogspot.com/2009/08/as-promised-i-said-i-would-come-up-with.html
Especially this part:
*Tip: If your computer says the drivers are installed but it is installing the wrong drivers, I recommend Uninstalling the drivers using this program, USBDeview, then plug the phone in again and choose the correct drivers in the SDK USB Drivers folder
Click to collapse
The drivers are in C:\AndroidSDK\usb_driver or similar path.
The gold card method worked for me (I have an HTC Magic 32A), but I think I should point out that in step 13 of the gold card guide make sure that you choose Removable Disk under Physical Disk.
Here's also a guide to installing proper drivers:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Good luck
EDIT: By the way the guide says that you have to have a spare microSD card, because after transforming the microSD card to a "Gold Card" it can't be used for anything else. This is not true. If you have an microSD card adapter (to be able to access it from your computer), just put it in your computer's expansion card slot and format it as FAT32. This way you don't have to have to microSD cards to go through the procedure. If you don't have an adapter and you instead have to microSD cards, you can format the gold card through the phone, once you've got it up and running again, making it a normal, fully-working microSD card again

I dont beleive that vodafone use the RUU because they are upgraded OTA but if they did it would have to be a vodafone branded version. What i think you need is a sappimg.nbh as i heard there is a version that will work for all magics, ill have a look and try find you one. BTW i can only post once every 5 mins as my account hasnt been chaecked by moderaters yet sorry.
thanks LayzeeDK ill try it tomorrow after work and let you know how i go.

You do that. I had a lot of trouble getting my phone flashed and rooted too at first, but after these steps you'll get the hang of it and it'll pretty much be a walk in the park next time
By the way don't waste your time on the one click method as it only works on a few certain SPL's.
Upgrade to the 1.33.2010 ENG SPL in the guide and you can flash most ROMs using fastboot and Amon_RA's Recovery ROM (if v1.5.2G doesn't work try v1.3.2 and v1.2.0). I wasn't able to flash and replace the stock recovery ROM until I upgraded to the 6.35.x Hero radio and 1.76.2007 SPL. If you can't either, you should still be able to use fastboot in USB mode to boot into Amon_RA's recovery ROM. Just place for example recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img in C:\AndroidSDK\Tools (or similar directory), turn off your phone, boot into fastboot by holding BACK and pressing POWER and connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable then type: fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img or whatever version you're using (in Windows cmd command prompt). The phone will reboot and boot into the custom recovery ROM. Remember to pull out the USB cable or you won't be able to access the SD card from within the recovery program.

Hm??? I've used "One-click" myself because I have PerfectSPL (still have - 1.33.0010; and I don't have second microSD for "goldcard" and no willingnes to do it) and I've read procedure twice just now but nowhere I see anything about HTCSync ( I have no Windows so it could be hard to use HT CSync on Linux ;P )
So what are You talking about when You mention "one-click"? dunno
the one click procedure is on www.theunlockr.com its just what they call their way to hack the phone, however it doesnt work due to windows 7 ill also contact google/htc to see if they can help get the sync sorted.
Yeah, right, I'm reading this same article 3rd time and I don't see HTCSense anywhere unless You are reffering to comments then good luck but comments is not the procedure.
PS: are we talking about this same article? http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
HTC Synd v2.18 should be working with Windows 7, but here's a workaround:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/
And another guide to get USB connection working:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
So... How did it go?
i get to here
(wait for the it to show a serial number underneath, if it doesn’t then reinstall the drivers from section I). Then type:
adb shell
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
5. A code will display, write the code down (MAKE SURE TO WRITE IT DOWN EXACTLY!)
i get this
cat/sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid NOT FOUND
thats as far as i can get. i found another guide but it talks about having RC29 or RC7 to root the phone however i have DRC92
firmware 1.6, baseband 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I kernal 2.6.29.00479.g3c7df37
Hi guys,
The day has arrived:
AlphaRevX now includes support for the Desire S (HBOOT 0.98).
Hop on over to http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/
We'll use this as a support thread.
This version will also download and flash custom recovery if you want to, after getting S-OFF.
Note: the very first download missed some DLLs for the windows version, that should be included now.
Note2: There have been some reports (on dinc2) that the windows version might not always work like it should. Please report errors with that as descriptive as possible. The linux version should always work like it should.
great news! is there a guide for a noob like me on how to s-off my Desire S using this software? thanks
FAILED
Hi there,
I've just tried to S-OFF my european Desire S several times, following the instructions posted for the Incredible S. Alpharevx connects to my phone, reboots to fastboot, waits, reboots to fastboot (again), waits .. then says FAILED.
I wonder if I'm doing something wrong or there's a problem with the windows version as you reported.
Thanks for the effort any way
EDIT: Downloaded the Linux version and it worked. I am now S-OFF
Hi, AlphaRevX didn't work for me on Windows either, but it succeeded on Linux (Ubuntu 11.04). Anyway, thanks a lot for your effort, AlphaRev team
@taipan_snake - Could you please guide me on How To S-OFF it on Linux ? I also have a Ubuntu installed. Thanks !
@badeaioan:
Well basically these are the steps that worked for me:
1. Download the Android SDK from here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2. Unzip and go into the folder you just downloaded
3. Run the 'android' application within the 'Tools' folder
4. Select 'Available Packages', and select 'Android SDK Platform-tools' and 'Android Compatibility package', and install these.
5. Make sure ADB can see your device by cd-ing into the SDK folder, and then the 'platform-tools' folder, and running './adb devices'. Your device should show up (mine had a string of question marks, but it should work as long as it is there)
6. Download AlphaRevX and get your beta key
7. Run AlphaRevX as root, and follow the instructions, and you should have S-OFF
Hope this helps
Sad windows version under review
-I tried the incredible version(long time ago ),(no SDK used) and it said my phone not suported bla bla, but the fact is that it was detected (with usb debuging on and phone conected in charge only)
one question: Do i need to get temp root for this to work?
Finally !!!!! AlpharevX - a software s-off. This is awesome, for s-on guys for obvious reasons, and for s-off guys too. This is surely gonna increase dovelopment here !!!!!
Thank you for your response.
The problem starts on running AlphaRevX.
When I open gksu and try to open it, nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong ?
@badeaioan:
I just used Terminal, cd-ed into the directory, and ran 'sudo ./alpharevx', and it worked for me...
EDIT: I think I now know what you mean... it's only a command-line app, so it would only run from terminal...
Thank you again. Finally I am S-OFF !!! Thank you AlphaRev X !
Also now S-OFF! thnx to the AlpharevX guys!
also s-off great thanks! Let the rom madness begin.
That's a great news! But question, before I try to S-Off.
Can S-on be restored using RUU after Soffing my device?
I would like to keep some warranty options available after all
/Chie
It's working on my Desire S. Finally S-OFF-ed...
Thank You!
Hi
I am new to linux and i am getting a "waiting for device " message when i try to run the linux version.
I have googled to my wits end but can't work out why it is not detecting my phone.
Can anyone shed some light please??
@jh787:
Hi, have you installed ADB and made sure it can find your device?
great news for all you s-on´ies
hope to see some of you around in my development post for saga lbc mod.
happy rooting, flashing and playing
regards
Hopefully things brings more dev to the htc desire s
Works perfect from Linux (Ubuntu), and so easy too!
If it isn't working, remember you need to have USB debugging on for ADB to find the device.
Hello everyone,
recently the ics update for the sensation came out, and just like the most ppl i wanted to update
Unfortunately i had s-off but were on stock rom, so i only wanted to go back to s-on without flashing a RUU (stupid me...)
Now i have a brick and i cant access my phone.
I never had worked with linux before, but i just installed a working ubuntu distribution and everything worked great till now.
I Already have a backup of my image (emmc_recover backup), the partition was sdd12
The Hex-Dump was okay too.
However for the next step (emmc_recover flash) i always get the message "cannot read image file hboot.nb0"
I tried 3 different hboots but get the same message everytime i try it.
I already am the root-user but just to be sure use sudo su in every terminal window.
I tried to have the emmc tool on "desktop" in home-directory and in download directory (the hboot, always in the same folder)
I even tried to use the full path to the hboot file
(example: "/home/knoppix/unbrick_32bit/emmc_recover --flash /home/knoppix/unbrick_32bit/emmc_recover/hboot.nb0 --device /dev/sdb12" , this time i tried it within knoppix because i thpougt, maybe its an error within the latest ubuntu distribution)
I tried 64 bit and 32 bit version of emmc_recover
I hope anyone can help me.
Many thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english
EDIT:
And sorry for ANOTHER "pls unbrick my phone"-thread, but unfortunately i cant seem to find a solution to this problem and cant find any other ppl having this problem right now, and if...their problem is solved by either downloading hboot.nb0 again or using another distribution or using another directorie or sth like that.

Sensational sent from my Sensation.
I'm stuck at test 3! everything works before then. I am on the latest 3.14 TMOBILE US firmware and bootloader unlocked via HTCDev. I do not have HTC Sync installed. adb devices show my device is there. so what is it that I am doing wrong?
A lot of people have trouble with it running windows. Myself included, I tried forever on windows 7 64 bit, and even tried on another computer running xp.
I finally put mint linux on a laptop and it worked the first time.
What worked for others:
make sure the bootloader is unlocked
try a different usb port and cable
open adb folder while moonshining
it's flakey...

I finally got it to work. I just uninstalled my HTC drivers. installed the latest. and switched USB ports. I don't know which of the two did it, but it worked.
but now that I am S-OFF via moonshine, what can I do now? and how do I Super CID with this?
Flash any rom you desire, change boot splash - the phone belongs to you now. Why will you want scid?. I am s=off(moonshine) and still have tmob cid. No need for scid after s=off.
