I've spent the last few hours searching for the ways and guides on how to hack the HTC Magic and i think im about lost.
first of all i used to have the htc touch hd and it was as simple as running a program to get it to the right SPL then flashing it then throwing on a new ROM.
Now for the Magic i'm being told to put an image on an sd card the im told to make a goldcard but dont format the gold card? ive got the 8gb card that came with it! thats it.
im using windows 7 and ive tried to use HTC Sync but it wont detect the device.
ive gone in and updated the drivers with the ones that were recommended on here and still no detection
the device is a 32b
Radio 2.22.19.26I
hboot 1.33.0006 (SAP10000)
Australian Vodafone one
ive got no idea where to go from? what the hell do i do? i followed the guide here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
i assume the drivers did install correctly as i type ADB Devices in my cmd box and it comes up with my devices Serial number.
after that it tells me how to use adb and fastboot? why do i want to knlow this? i just want to be able to update the rom and be able to put whatever applications i want on it and change the startup screen as well as a heap of themes and the likes.
i guess basically what im asking is whats the easiest way to root this device? i dont know where to go from when ive adb'd the device...
ive no idea what rom to put on or what to do. also its a 1.6 in the info box when i check it. so im assuming its the donut version.
take it i need to get it back to 1.5 but im struggling to do this..
these guides seem awefully difficult...
To root the phone, I followed this guide: http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
There is a link for Donut rooting also. Hope it helps.
you shouldn't have any issues with that spl, only that you have the vodafone au OTA donut
read up on one click - very quick and easy. you need to revert to cupcake before you can use flashrec though...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
Htc Sync didn´t detect my phone either but i managed to hack it via goldcard procedure and i had a perfected spl 1.33.0014 32a device.
Now i got a rooted phone but Sync still doesn´t detect my phone and I´ve used 3 different PCs and different OSs - XP, Vista and Win 7.
i followed the one click. but it says to use htc sync which doesnt work. as im in windows 7 even with the updated drivers, with the goldcard thing i only have the sadisk card that came with the phone.
what i will try is turning the device into its boot loader and then runnning the RUU they supplied with the one click and see what happens.
just tried it with it in boot loader but usb isnt detected will try it with the actual phone on and see what happens
Edit: tried that also, still doesnt work just running the RUU file from unlockr.
I have a vodafone magic 32b with the 1.6 OTA upgrade. The guide on unlockr requires using a nbh file but the guide doesnt have a link to an nbh for vodafone only roger and it says that they couldnt find a vodafone one. I was also trying to use the relentless rooter but couldnt get it to work.
BTW are you using the newest version of HTC Sync because that is the only version that comes with the drivers for windows 7.
also do i need a specific RUU or anything? will the one i downgrade too the 1.5 be fine to use in australia?
i used this one

Hi
Try reading through this guide:
http://vivekgolecha.blogspot.com/2009/08/as-promised-i-said-i-would-come-up-with.html
Especially this part:
*Tip: If your computer says the drivers are installed but it is installing the wrong drivers, I recommend Uninstalling the drivers using this program, USBDeview, then plug the phone in again and choose the correct drivers in the SDK USB Drivers folder
Click to collapse
The drivers are in C:\AndroidSDK\usb_driver or similar path.
The gold card method worked for me (I have an HTC Magic 32A), but I think I should point out that in step 13 of the gold card guide make sure that you choose Removable Disk under Physical Disk.
Here's also a guide to installing proper drivers:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
Good luck
EDIT: By the way the guide says that you have to have a spare microSD card, because after transforming the microSD card to a "Gold Card" it can't be used for anything else. This is not true. If you have an microSD card adapter (to be able to access it from your computer), just put it in your computer's expansion card slot and format it as FAT32. This way you don't have to have to microSD cards to go through the procedure. If you don't have an adapter and you instead have to microSD cards, you can format the gold card through the phone, once you've got it up and running again, making it a normal, fully-working microSD card again

I dont beleive that vodafone use the RUU because they are upgraded OTA but if they did it would have to be a vodafone branded version. What i think you need is a sappimg.nbh as i heard there is a version that will work for all magics, ill have a look and try find you one. BTW i can only post once every 5 mins as my account hasnt been chaecked by moderaters yet sorry.
thanks LayzeeDK ill try it tomorrow after work and let you know how i go.

You do that. I had a lot of trouble getting my phone flashed and rooted too at first, but after these steps you'll get the hang of it and it'll pretty much be a walk in the park next time
By the way don't waste your time on the one click method as it only works on a few certain SPL's.
Upgrade to the 1.33.2010 ENG SPL in the guide and you can flash most ROMs using fastboot and Amon_RA's Recovery ROM (if v1.5.2G doesn't work try v1.3.2 and v1.2.0). I wasn't able to flash and replace the stock recovery ROM until I upgraded to the 6.35.x Hero radio and 1.76.2007 SPL. If you can't either, you should still be able to use fastboot in USB mode to boot into Amon_RA's recovery ROM. Just place for example recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img in C:\AndroidSDK\Tools (or similar directory), turn off your phone, boot into fastboot by holding BACK and pressing POWER and connect your phone to your computer with the USB cable then type: fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2G.img or whatever version you're using (in Windows cmd command prompt). The phone will reboot and boot into the custom recovery ROM. Remember to pull out the USB cable or you won't be able to access the SD card from within the recovery program.

Hm??? I've used "One-click" myself because I have PerfectSPL (still have - 1.33.0010; and I don't have second microSD for "goldcard" and no willingnes to do it) and I've read procedure twice just now but nowhere I see anything about HTCSync ( I have no Windows so it could be hard to use HT CSync on Linux ;P )
So what are You talking about when You mention "one-click"? dunno
the one click procedure is on www.theunlockr.com its just what they call their way to hack the phone, however it doesnt work due to windows 7 ill also contact google/htc to see if they can help get the sync sorted.
Yeah, right, I'm reading this same article 3rd time and I don't see HTCSense anywhere unless You are reffering to comments then good luck but comments is not the procedure.
PS: are we talking about this same article? http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
HTC Synd v2.18 should be working with Windows 7, but here's a workaround:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/24/workaround-for-htc-hero-sync-problem-in-windows-7/
And another guide to get USB connection working:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/
So... How did it go?
i get to here
(wait for the it to show a serial number underneath, if it doesn’t then reinstall the drivers from section I). Then type:
adb shell
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
5. A code will display, write the code down (MAKE SURE TO WRITE IT DOWN EXACTLY!)
i get this
cat/sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid NOT FOUND
thats as far as i can get. i found another guide but it talks about having RC29 or RC7 to root the phone however i have DRC92
firmware 1.6, baseband 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I kernal 2.6.29.00479.g3c7df37
I've spent the whole day yesterday and today trying to root my inspire and nothing.
I tried attn1's hack kit and when I click on hack-ace.cmd it says: server not running. I tried everything...restarting, unplugging, etc. and nothing.
Got fed up with it so I tried Bubby's simple root. Downloaded it, followed all the instructions. disabled firewall, uninstalled antivirus, uninstalled HTC Sync, etc. and when I click on get CID it says error could not find C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\mycid.txt
Got pissed off so I typed the command to get the CID number in command prompt and it gave me the CID number so I reversed it...got my goldcard and when I clicked on Downgrade, S-OFF, clockwork, Stock, Root button and the command line pops up and then disappears and doesn't do anything!
WTH am I doing wrong? Is it my computer? I have Windows XP SP2 unfortunately but I have the latest HTC drivers installed, HTC Sync uninstalled, no Anti-Virus, firewall off, Microsoft .NET framework 4.0, and when I type "adb devices" in command prompt it shows my device installed.

Ok first 2 issues.
1. Got feed up
2. Got pissed off
Things are not always going to work the first time or even the first several. With the differences in PC set ups, os versions ect you may have to do a few things over from time to time. If you get frustrated and upset you are more likely to really mess something up.
Because you have XP I would look in both threads for a post from someone with a simaler set up and see if they had issues. Then I would choose one and stick with it. Bouncing between methods is a recipe for headaches. Then start from scratch. Delete everything you did and start from step one. If you run into an issue check the thread about the method you use.
Yea you're right. It just looked so simple and it seemed like other people were rooting it with ease.
I'll erase everything tomorrow and get back to you. Thanks for the help.
What method did you use by the way?

FWIW... I run XP and I used ATTN's ACE Hack Kit v11a and everything went smooth as silk. Just letting you know that it should not be an issue with your OS method combination.
Hey thanks for the reply Perseids!
What Service Pack do you have?
I recently rooted on my PC, which runs Win XP SP2, using the v11 hack kit without a hitch. Make sure you have a good goldcard, good drivers, have antivirus fully disabled, and are putting the device in usb debugging. Considering you had issues with both methods, I would say there is a good chance you may not have a good gold card.

What I mean is the gold card may have not been properly created. There have been plenty of peeps posting of having issue with various sd cards not working for gold cards. I would try recreating or even a different card, if you have a spare.
With XP, if you are already logged in as an administrator, you should be able to run the program just by opening it.

Well I've got bad news guys
My phone and SD Card has been working fine so far...could take pictures and download songs without a hitch, but for some stupid reason I decided to take my SD Card out, put it in an adapter and see if my computer could it read it...it couldn't.
I put it back in my phone and now it says: SD card blank or has unsupported file system!!!
Does this mean that my SD Card is toast??

I had an old windows xp laptop that I tried rooting on numerous times and it took me a while to figure out what was wrong but I finally did. Norton 360, even though it was disabled, was still silently deleting files from both the hack kit and bubbys one click. Since the computer was pretty much not being used for anything else at the moment I completely uninstalled norton, rebooted windows, redownloaded bubbys just to try it and presto. Now that old busted xp laptop is my best friend, but with no jimmy hat on(antivirus) I only download from xda.

Hey thanks for the replies guys!!! I really appreciate it
Unfortunately I won't be able to test out your suggestions just yet cuz I screwed up my SD card. I tried the blackberry solution to no avail. My only hope is if this SD Card Formatter program fixes it if not I'm gonna have to buy a new SD card and attempt to root my phone again...hopefully with no problems this time.
Make sure you have the latest microsoft framework.net or whatever it is and updated java (jqs.exe)...
I have an old stripped back XP2 Dell laptop from I think the 1890's...it took me twice to do every step of the Hack Kit. Twice...each time it failed I just recovered, and tried again, varying nothing...I even got a clockworkmod black screen after root...just stick with it...if you have everything on your computer by the book...still might be a little testy with you. Bubby's method didn't work at all. It would just splash the microsoft "I aint gonna run this" before it even started...took me a day to get up my nerve to try the Hack Kit after two of those splashes...just kept reading ATTN1's stuff over and over and eventually got through it.
That all said, I've been rooted for several weeks now and flash all manner of bacon and sweets to my phone and it's a blast . I am used to how my old PC behaves during these various processes now. Good luck. I hope it's nothing more serious than I outlined.

That looks like a "thought I pushed edit but pushed quote on accident in the XDA app" type of double post.
I previously had a Motorola Cliq and had no problem rooting the thing, but now I've got the MT4GS and it's giving me a headache. Since we're probably not getting ICS, I figured I'd experiment with some of these roms (pyr-o-ice sounds great). Problem is, I don't know where to start/the easiest way/any way. I tried the revolutionary method via unlockr.com and my computer (windows developers preview) won't recognize the drivers/neither will my other windows 7 computer. I can't get them to sync up. Because of that, I can't get my token ID to use that guy Hasoon's noob tool. I'm sure this has been answered before, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance
get the drivers from here
Yeah so I got the driver, clicked install, and then boom. Still nothing happens. Windows recognizes that it's an " HTC Android Phone USB." But HTC Sync doesn't recognize it. Does that really matter?
try mr root....? lol never had that error
Yeah I've never really encountered it either. I downloaded Mr. Root (nice work, by the way), and I'm not sure what the instructions are for that because it automatically stops working as soon as I open the .exe cmd
Could it be the USB cable I am using? The divers say that they're not compatible with my version of Windows, but that doesn't seem to be the case. When I use the Revo tool it just says on the cmd prompt "Waiting for device..."
I thought you needed to exit HTC sync to make it work
I think it is the version of windows... Download linux? Ubuntu...? Borrow a computer...

No. Get rid of HTC Sync. It messes with everything while trying to root.
When I rooted, I had problems until I remembered to exit htc sync, but that was ages ago when we first got root.
Alright, cool. I'll give all of this a shot and check back in..thanks! This phone kicks ass, I can't believe we're not getting ICS
kk DONT run mr root with admin priviledges. It will messup. And also in the beginning type yes to enter device mode then plug in your device when prompted. Oh and also you should be using windows to operate it
It was either HTC sync, being an administrator, using windows dev. preview, or all of the above. Either way mr root worked w/revo, and now when i fastboot at the top it says S-Off RL. I assume that means mission accomplished? Thanks to everyone who helped out! This was definitely frustrating lol. Time for some stable(ish) ICS. Any recommendations?
I used the instructions given in the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286324
cool kk thanks your done no go flash a cool ROM
I'm using Pyr o Ice desensed and it's ridiculous. Considering trying out your AOKP Wildchild Ice rom, but I'm still having fun with this one. The gap between gingerbread and ice cream sandwich is monstrous. The OS is basically as smooth as the iPhone now, which really says something about how far its come along.
I am using a HTC ONE Mini (AT & T)
Last week, I unlocked bootloader and installed the JmzM4StockRootedDeOdex-WWE-1.22.401.1 ROM. All smooth.
Read elsewhere that 4.4.2 is available via CM11. Noticed that S-ON was there
So tried the Rum Runner procedure. While running the procedure the USB cord disconnect and since then the phone is in a bootloop!!!
tried to run the Rumrunner procedure again, but it dint work
tried to flash the above ROM again by pushing via ADB
tried firewater s-off, dint work
tried to use Revone, dint work
Absolutely Helpless!!! Can anyone help.....please??
I have read so many forums all night trying one solution or the other but nothing seems to work.
Hi there all, I've got both an old HTC Desire HD and Incredible S which I thought I might try to root, install custom ROM etc to try make them a bit more useable and enjoyable as they are very slow and quite unusable. My mother was also using the DHD until it became too slow and laggy for her to use, also battery life deteriorated even after I bought a new battery. There are a couple of dilemmas I am facing however not being able to use fastboot is the biggest and most important one so far. If I can solve this then I may be able to solve the others myself so I thought I'd see if there was anyone who could help me. I've been on this for hours, days, I don't know what happened but I'll tell you my story.
First of all, my DHD has been rooted previously and I installed CM11 onto it, however that ROM keeps giving me processes that stop continuously after installing the associated Gapps file. The incredible S is NOT rooted yet, I haven't been able to unlock bootloader because that also won't connect via fastboot. I ALSO have an HTC M7 which I recently unlocked, rooted and installed Venom 9.0.0 ROM without any problems. I'm not sure what is wrong with these two. I know there are a lot of posts on this topic online but not one of them has helped me in the slightest.
I am not too sure exactly what details you might need, but I'll start with these:
- I am running Windows 10 on my desktop, with USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports available.
- I have a myriad of HTC cables and other micro USB cables as well to use.
- I have a couple of microSD Cards available.
- I have installed HTC Sync Manager for HTC drivers and uninstalled it as requested by many threads online.
- I've downloaded a lot of other drivers, ie HTC driver installer, universal drivers from Koush, and Google drivers.
- I have SDK tools from the AndroidSDKSlim.rar archive.
I've currently deleted and uninstalled everything because I want to start again hopefully with some assistance. I've downloaded Devmanview to delete and uninstall anything that said HTC, Phone or Android to start fresh.
My HTC Desire HD bootloader details are as follows:
*** UNLOCKED ***
ACE PVT ENG S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.2728
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot
Sep 7 2011, 19:06:24
I am aware there is an hboot update, I have the hboot update by behtash.bat file from the HBOOTUpdate_kit.rar archive but I also can't update that without fastboot)
Currently it has PD98IMG (Philz Touch 6.25.0 For HTC Desire HD) recovery, prior to that I had TWRP.
I was able to install that via my SD card
Now when I plug the phones into the computer while they're on, it picks them up on Device manager, and using ADB DEVICES turns up with their serial numbers. I can command them to ADB REBOOT BOOTLOADER to fastboot, I hear the windows sounds for connecting and disconnecting USB's then I get the windows does not recognize this device message. Please try plugging in again etc. When I look at my device manager it comes up in Other devices as Android 1.0 in device status it says:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
There are no compatible drivers for this device.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
If I try to search automatically it fails. If I go to Update driver>Browse my computer>Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer it comes up in the box both Android Device and Android USB Devices. If I click the Android USB Devices there are no supported drivers. If i click Android Device it gives me 3 SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface versions :S:S
I should probably state that I'm trying to reflash a TWRP recovery for aceopt so I can install the CM12.1 or CM13 ROMs on my DHD.
My brain really hurts from all this... If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for me to try, please... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also If you need any more information let me know I'll be happy to provide. Thanks in advance!!
