I know this has been addressed a bunch of times about landscape mode not displaying correctly in 3D Gallery. I just had the idea that the image distortion reminds me of an incorrect resolution....
Someone who knows what the hell they are doing to look into what res the app is rendering in landscape.
I would if I could, but i'm a software n00b.

yes... it does, but then portrait is messed up. Something is happening after rotation either way you start it.
okay, so my first guess was wrong. The problem lays within changing orientation....
Now what next?

I have searched a lot for this, but have been unable to find much info. Does anyone know what it would take to enable Auto rotate for the lock screen? I have tried several builds and themes and many auto rotate the home screen, but none that I have found auto rotate the lock screen. My issue with this is I keep my g1 on my desk with the screen up, and I like to keep it in landscape because it fits better when I plug it in. The problem is that every time the screen locks it goes back to portrait when I wake it up again. Then I have to pick it up so that it will go back to landscape. If anyone has any insight on a solution please share. I hope the reason I haven't found any threads about isn't because it is just a check box in the settings somewhere. Well actually I hope it is, but I would still feel dumb.
If this thread isn't appropriate for this section let me know and I will delete it. Just on a side note, is there anyway we could get more appropriate post icons for the forum? Maybe an icon for a post that contains a rom, one that contains a theme, one for a general development question, etc. It just seems kind of silly to use a smiley face or a thumbs up/down here.
how bout using one of them home apps in the market.. i remember either open home or ahome kept gettin on my nerves about what u are talkin about
Dxtop is my fave and did what ask on every but the. Ion build . God I hated it cause when u take it out of your pocket the phone would be in the the process of flipping oriantation and on some of the buggyer builds this would lag horribly (yes my spelling sucks)

I use aHome on the Ion Rom right now. aHome seems to have no effect on the lock screen though. If my G1 wasn't lying on its back it wouldn't be a big deal, but for some reason every time it locks it reverts to portrait. I just wish there was a way to make it not default like that. Its not a big deal, I wouldn't go back to RC33 to get the feature back, but it is a little annoying.

Are you saying that dxTop will auto rotate the lock screen on non Ion builds? I would definitely switch to cyanogen's rom if that's the case.

To my knowledge None auto rotate the "lock screen". I believe that the above posts are not reading your post correctly seeing how they are talking about Ahome and OpenHome home replacements.

i agree, ive used every home replacement out there, none of them do anything to the lock screen, the lock screen is completely seperate. Maybe a dev could make lock screen (hopefully not like a iphone like some devs have) that would accomplish this for you. Maybe ask in the application section to see if anyone is working on such a app, and if not, you may be giving a developer who is looking to develop an app something to work on.

That's too bad. I am just surprised that this doesn't seem to bug anyone else. I just don't know enough about the inner workings of the G1 to figure this out. Is the lock screen an app or is it controlled by the launcher? I just wish I could figure out why it worked on the pre cupcake JFs, but doesn't work on any post 1.5. I don't want to cross post, but if you guys think this would be better in the Apps and Themes feel free to move it.
As a workaround, you could enable the setting that prevents it from sleeping while plugged in which will also prevent it from locking.
Well... I figured that if you had the launcher and lock screen rotate, the phone might waste battery power while you're not using just rotating on every movement... This would probably also prevent it from going into sleep mode.
Not that that's the real cause, it's just my own reasoning. (It made more sense in my head. lol)
I know that it USED to autorotate the lock screen on the earlier haykuro G builds. Or was that the early non-cupcake jf builds.... I can't remember...

well my g1 spends alot of its time either in my pocket, or in a dock, both of those are in portraite mode, thats why it hasnt bothered me, but i see why it would bother you
I suggest using Droidsans Tweak Tools from the market and checking system wide auto rotate. That is the only thing I have ever seen rotate the lock screen. That's what you're looking for.

wow didnt think about that, i havnt used droidsans since early jf builds lol, good looking out man
Yeah I know, auto rotate was the only thing I used droidsans for but since the newer builds already have that option I dropped it lol

That is what I used to use pre-cupcake on the JF builds. After cupcake that tool stopped working. Anyone know if there are any cupcake builds it works on. I tried it last week on Ion and it didn't work.
--edit 2--
DroidSans Tweak Tools v0.87
"Auto Rotation Status: Bad Version"
DroidSans doesn't seem to work with JF1.51
--edit 1--
looking into droidsans... also want this ability
--first post--
In the past two weeks I did some reflashing (JF1.51, Hero, Ion, and back to JF1.51) and have noticed the lock screen not auto-rotating while the keyboard is closed. I was sure this used to happen prior to two weeks ago (while I was on RC33 and JF1.5) but really can't be sure. You might want to ditch these newer builds for a while and go get RC33, maybe that ROM does it.
To paraphrase: I thought this was supported and over the last couple of weeks, flashing several newer ROMs, I cannot be sure anymore that auto-rotate of lock screen ever existed. Maybe RC33 has it.
I'm also interesting in having this lock-screen-rotation enabled.
i m holding my phone 90% of the time vertivally. i would love to take pix while riding my bike for an example and quickly use my camera with only one hand
is it possible (or theres an app for that) set the camera to take landscape snapshots in portrait mode? could apply to video cam too.
I have not seen an app for that. It's a good idea. would also be nice if when in camera mode the power button became the shutter button.
I'm thinking this might be a hardware limitation.
I don't understand what you're asking.
Whether it's landscape or portrait doesn't change the actual picture being taken... just how it's displayed in the gallery.
And the gallery can rotate pictures for you.
Otherwise you're asking for something crazy like a rotating lens.
Sent from my Captivate.
He's saying he wants to take a landscape picture when holding the phone like your taking a portrait. Not the same as taking a picture in portrait then flipping it sideways, because that rotates the subject. I've also wished I could do this especially when taking a video (hold and shoot like a flip in one hand).

can the image that the lens is seeing in landscape mode be translated in the same format when your holding the device vertically to take a picture, leaving some empty space in the bottom part, for the settings and shutter button?
like the videos playing in the new youtube app when holding the device vertically.
so when youre holding the phone vertically you have 2 format options to take pictures with: portrait or landscape
i miss my blackberry b/c it allowed me to take landscape/portrait pictures with one hand.
i wish i knew coding i'll be working on that instead of asking about it or probably someone after reading this will!
Vignette.....works perfectly for what you are after and better quality pics as well
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app.
all the pics i take in portrait only show up in landscape and photos i take in landscape come out upside down in portrait....
and if i take a pic w/ the phone pointed down more than halfway toward the ground the pix come out UPSIDE DOWN!!!!
anybody else have this problem. anybody know what can cause AND fix this???
Where are they rotated?
Often this kind of problem is because the viewing/processing application doesn't properly support the EXIF "orientation" tag, which "tells" the app which way is up.
Here's one overview: http://www.impulseadventure.com/photo/exif-orientation.html
they are rotated in gallery and when i upload the pictures to facebook and what not.

If by "gallery" you mean the built-in app, it sounds like you may have a defect. I just tried mine rotating to all four forward-facing orientations and, while the immediate post-shot preview was not always "right," when I went into the stock Gallery app, they were all shown with the bottom of the photo down.
Hi all,
I am still very new to my Xoom (have only had it for about a week) and I have noticed what seems to be a glitch with the "wallpaper resizer/cropping tool" in the gallery when I am trying to set new wallpapers.
On all of my other Android devices (past and present) when I resize the picture to make it may wallpaper I can simply do so by using 2 fingers (pinch to zoom) but when I try this on my Xoom it is only recognizing one finger at a time and I have to resize by moving the box down, then to the right, then up, then to the left, etc.
Does anyone else have this issue and if so does anyone know how to fix it?
Please advise...
Thanks in advance...
That's going to be the least of your concern. I'm trying to figure out how to enable the whole wallpaper instead of cropping it.

LOL... Ya... I read your thread as well. I can get my wallpapers to work from the gallery using the crop feature but it is a pain in the a$$ to do when it wont work properly...
One easy way to get all of the wallpaper to view is to install wallpaper slide show. It's a live wallpaper but it allows viewing of the whole thing.

Hi all,
I had this same problem until another thread on this forum where some one mentioned the Live Wallpaper app that solves these problems and works really well you can give it a try as its free.

Can someone tell me how to configure the app? When I click on folders it FC's.
Many apps I have installed that are not honeycomb versions, while still working have some odd behaviours. The most common is that some launch in portrait mode even when docked and either don't rotate to landscape or only part of the app on certain screens will be viewable in landscape. When not docked it's not an issue as i can rotate the screen but it makes these apps unusable with the keyboard dock connected. Any ideas on how to force landscape mode?
Some examples are medscape, yahoo sportacular.....
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Well, if it makes you feel better (probably not), there are some Honeycomb "optimized" apps that do the same thing (I'm looking at you, Nook store). Not sure if there is a way to force landscape barring a code edit.
Why Portrait...... The Market only opens and stays in Landscape.

Yes honeycomb market is landscape only but the apps I refer to keep starting to rotate to landscape then switch to portrait so unviewable when docked as writing is sideways
I believe it is dependent on the app. I installed a volume manager to automatically mute when I'm in class and it only runs in portrait. I am pretty sure that when designing apps, developers have to decide where elements go in both portrait and landscape orientation and if they design only for one, then that's all you get.
Also, why DID they make the market landscape only? That's so dumb. Probably a topic for another thread though.
In many cases it'd work fine in landscape if the developers just would have configured it to allow it. A lot of apps could take the first step towards being "honeycomb optimized" with a one line configuration change. Some might need some additional graphics or layout tweaks, but a lot of the time it will scale things just fine in landscape.
And yes, I think it's just as silly that the Market is forced to landscape. But the Honeycomb market sucks in many other ways too (can't write reviews? Seriously???)

There is a simple fix for this that i have used on many apps. Does not work for all, so YMMV.
Grab an app calle APKEdit.
Get the apk off your device.
Load it in apkedit.
Go to the details tab and click on browse.
Find the AndroidManifext.xml file and edit in notepad.
Replace "portrait" with "sensor" or "landscape" and save
then click apply in apkedit.
Uninstall your app and install the new APK.
Should work.

True, but you can't update from the market anymore. And unless you are rooted and use Titanium, you can't preserve data if the app doesn't have a sync or import/export feature.

you are correct, but if the app doesn't work well in one layout or another that you want it's a minor inconvenicence to check the market once in a while and only update when something significant changes. then reapplh this fix. yes thd devs should be pushed go fix this. this is just how i deal with it, if you are uncomfortable with it then definitely dont do it and just send feedback to the dev.
