APNdroid - Android Apps and Games

Hi,
I saw APNdroid on androidpit.de to turn off Umts because I have no data plan. I want to use Wifi only at home.
But I can't find that App in the google android market.
Why can't I find it?

It's very strange you can't see it. I am the author of APNdroid and this is first time I read such report. Try again and if you won't succeed, go to apndroid dot googlecode dot com and grab a dev version.
-M

If I go to android market on my phone an search for APNdroid I get an error: "There were no results for "APNdroid".
I don't know if the fact that I run a custom android build by polyrhythmic on my HTC Touch cruise, which came with win mobile 6, affects the search.
But I can definitely find all other apps, that I tried.
So I'll try a dev build.

Since you can use the built-in Mobile Network widget to enable/disable data (or uncheck the box in Settings), what's the need for APNDroid?

Skyfire T-mobile web $5.99 (T-zones) Work Around for WM6 - 6.1!

Okay, I've been using Skyfire on my Shadow with the T-mobile $5.99 plan for a few day's now. Of coarse it doesn't load pages as quick as a WiFi or 3G connection, but it does in fact work pretty well. After an extensive amount of research & tweaking with my internet settings (for a while) , I was able to figured out how to make it work. Its pretty simple & my way is actually a little more complicated. The simple fact is that Skyfire can not operate though proxy & I want to keep my proxy settings in case I may still need them.
How to:
1. Download a little & very useful application called nodata from here. http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility/
(you must register first in order to download any apps at Modaco)
2. Install nodata cab.
3. On the Shadow (these settings should be very similar on the Dash & any WM6 - 6.0 Smartphone & PDA) go to settings, connections, GPRS, New connection, name it what ever you want (I named mines T-mobile new APN), connects to The Internet, Under Access Point enter epc.tmobile.com & hit done.
4. On the Shadow, from the home screen hit start, click on the nodata application icon. Ones the application opens hit the toggle button to disable the data connections that are enabled on your phone except for the new T-mobile APN connection that you've just made. Hit exit & you'll be prompted to confirm the exit, so hit yes. In my case, I have a data connection through proxy for web browsing to the internet & a second proxy connection for downloading emails through my work connection. If you want to find out how I did both connections you can find it out here. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1275435
If you've followed the steps correctly than Skyfire will work. I'm not sure if the new APN is available in every state yet, so that may also be another factor why it may not work for you. (I'm in Chicago).
I have to give credit to where its due. I found the APN info here. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1434021
Jotiger-
this is a great trick. i swa it at shadow site. i did it on my shadow and my dash. but when done in my tilt which is unlock and running on t-mobile it does not work i wonder what it is.the wap.voicestream.com works for opera google maps and pie. have no idea
T-Mobile is about to do away with T-Zones and replace it with something called Web2Go which from what I understand will be more expensive than $5.99/mo.

Differences between Fuze and touch pro + unlock question

Hey I just got my Fuze from ATT and I just had a few questions about it.
What are the differences between the Fuze and the Touch Pro? I specifically remembered reading about a VGA front camera and a Youtube client in the GSM review. I was really looking forward to the youtube client but since it's nonexistent, how do you guys watch youtube videos and just videos in general online? I've tried and it does not work. the only thing that works is Cingular Video. And what about the radio? I thought it was going to be an FM radio, not XM radio.
I also want to unlock my FUZE so I can use it in Hong Kong (vacation). Is that the same as "flashing" or something completely different? If I unlock, can I change it back later on?
Thanks.
1. No front camera for video call as you know.
2. If you're on att ROM, "youtube" is still there; just create a shortcut in Windows\Start Menu\Programs OR you may want to flash some customized ROMs e.g RRE's ROM.
3. FM radio: install a FM radio cab file or flash a custom ROM.
4. Unlock: call att rep and ask for subsidy unlock code. Unlock means you can put any SIM card from any carrier into the phone and start making/receiving call w/o paying the int'l roaming charge.
Here is the good place to get more about your phone http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael
Have fun.
how do you create a shortcut to youtube?
For unlocking, ATT said they only let you do it after 90 days. I'm leaving this December so it's going to be too late by then. That's why I have to unlock it myself. So far it seems like the only way to get it unlocked is by paying someone but i'm just worried about getting ripped off or something.
The mskip thread on flashing says that it's possible to break your phone if you allow the screensaver to activate. Does he mean allowing the phone to turn off the screen? Does he mean to not allow the screen to turn off? Also, what's hardspl mean?
Lastly, I'm using a Macbook. Is it still possible to unlock and flash my phone with a Mac? Thanks.
Oh forgot to ask about this too: What about the GPS? How do you get it to work on ATT? I know I have a free trial for a month so I thought I'd give it a try. I installed the navigator but it gave me a website asking for a login and pw. btw, is it possible to get GPS without paying for it or do you have to have a subscription?
Navigation
Hey i have never used that att navigator if you want a free one.. google nav4all its pretty good and you can get maps for most any country so check it out
Is it a free trial? Do you eventually have to pay?

I use amazegps.com. It's permanently free (ad-supported); Nav4All will eventually start charging, AIUI. The amazegps Windows Mobile version is still in beta and has just released a new version, so there are still a couple of bugs and issues; in particular, the "search" function is switching to a new information provider in the U.S. and so the "local search" function isn't working at the moment. The navigation features work really well, though, with voice prompts and moving 3D maps, etc.
The GPS receiver in the Fuze is a bit finicky. The best advice, AFAICT, is to:
1) Turn off Assisted GPS (Start->Settings->System->AGPS Settings).
2) Set the GPS program port to COM4 (Start->Settings->System->External GPS).
3) Use QuickGPS at least once a week.
4) Download GPSTest, set it to COM4, and run it to start up the GPS unit before running a navigation program. (This is only needed if it's been more than a couple of hours since you last used the GPS; hot start is acceptably fast, but warm starts -- using the QuickGPS download -- can take several minutes, and it's better to use GPSTest to watch what's going on than to listen to your navigation system complaining about not being able to find the satellites.)

Using File Explorer (in Programs->Tools, as I recall), navigate to \Windows and scroll down close to the bottom of the list. You'll see a couple of executable files named "YouTube". Tap-and-hold on the larger one and tap on "Copy" from the pop-up menu. Then navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and pick Edit->Paste Shortcut from the lower-right Menu button.
i found the youtube.exe file but when i go to programs to paste it, there's no edit button.
Hold your stylus down until the menu appears, there you will see the Paste Shortut option. I also like to us GSfinder instead of the file explorer that comes with it.
http://page.freett.com/todamitsu/GSFinderE.htm
i just tried holding down on the stylus but no menu pops up but it didn't
work. the youtube client works but i can't move it. it's start - programs - then paste right?
Btw, are you guys all using PCs to add these new programs onto your phone? If I have a Mac, then is it still possible?
and for the weather, right now I'm in Ithaca but I guess it wasn't important enough to be in the weather app. Is there a way to put in Ithaca? Thanks.
GPS on Raphael (aka FUZE, Touch PRO) takes looooong time to get a fix vs. Tilt (6 min vs. under 3 min) and not to mention about lagging, too. I'm on Tomtom 7 in USA and Garmin XT elsewhere. With those applications you don't have to have internet access on the go.
Create a shortcut, I normally use "Resco File Explorer". Browse to the exe file which you want to have a shortcut, tap and hold the stylus, then choose "send to" then "Start Menu as Shortcut" Trial version does the job, in case you don't want to shell out some money.
Worldmate standard version (now free) does have weather in which you can put your zipcode. Want to use in Manila Weather? Search for "Weather Database Editor"
If you don't have a PC, buy one then Just kidding! You can use cab file to install application.
Thanks Nghiem.
Hm, so I can't use the file explorer that came with the phone?
What is a cab file and how do you use it? Is it related to those "tweaks"? Do you have to flash your phone before you can use these things? And what's the hardspl?
On games, how do you guys get them? I used to have a Sony Ericsson w810 and I was able to download and install java games for free. Is it possible to do the same with the Fuze? I want to play Brain Challenge 2 lol (the demo was fun).

[WIDGET] Toogle Wifi Hotspot

I wrote another small tool just to enable/disable hotspot feature from home screen. it called "HotSpot Toggle", download it, enjoy it and leave it (hopefully good) comments/rating plz
Also any bug report/feature request can be post here or directly to my email address (provided on the app page in market).
Can't find it on the market. I've looked on my device and via AppBrain
What is ur phone?
I just published it 1 hour ago, maybe killing market app and open it again helps, or just wait a little
I can see it on the market.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Nexus One. CM5.0.8.1 In the UK
Must be regional. I found it here http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/bohlool.net.toogleHotspot/ but when I scan the barcode I get no result on my phone. I grabbed the apk off your site so will try that out
EDIT: Now I just get "There is a problem parsing the package"
Interesting, because I can see it without any problem on my Nexus One stock 2.2. Did you restart the market app? this is the link EasyShare gave me: http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:bohlool.net.toogleHotspot
Let me know when you managed to install it.
Found it in the market. Downloading and testing now. Thanks!
Great job! Thank you!
Great widget! Placed it on QuickDesk for rapid access
Sent from my Nexus One
Nicely done! I don't know why this didn't come standard. This will be permanently fixed on my desktop as I often use my broadcasting abilities for my friends to be able to access "Words with Friends" when their iPhones aren't getting 3G coverage.
Fantastic App mate
I think you should release it free here, but charge 0.99c for it on the Market
Congrats
JD
User comments are strange
I've check the comment for my app, despite the fact that I said this app is not supported on Droid(s) because they disabled or restricted WIFI, I got lots of (30) 1 star with commnets like "dosn't work on droid, ..."
but this one is interesting:
"DO NOT USE THIS APP...DEV PUT A 'DO NOT INSTALL ON SDCARD' RESTRICTION ON THIS APP SO IT WASTES PHONE'S INTERNAL MEMORY. Try Tether Share FREE!"
The app is "132KB" and it is a widget and most launcher apps will not show widgets if they installed on sd-card.
I can't understand some users, but thats the downside of democracy.
Version 2.0
Just updated the app to 2.0 supporting Android 4.x (tested on 4.1.1). Feels like cold cases by opening this forum again

[Q] MobileMe or Similar? Anti-Theft Recovery Type Deal...

For my kids iPods, we have MobileMe which we use for locating it. Now with my new Transformer, is there something similar? Specifically, some sort of theft recovery program where I can log online and find out via GPS where the device is?
yeah i was wondering the same, as well as a security app. but i guess honeycomb is still Wifi only (mostly) and devs are more interested in an GSM/CDMA tablet compatible. plus, GPS by it self sucks, i tried to use for navigation, no luck

Dd you have it turned on. GPS on my TF works fine for navigation. Get GPS info app and look at the raw data. Remember it is a GPS (Satellite rcvr) and needs to have a relatively clear view of the sky.
Maybe not exactly what you're looking for....
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.lookout&feature=search_result
Why not try Prey - preyproject dot com - it's free for the first 3 devices it's linked to with an account. It's also open source too and is multi-platform so it's more flexible (ie you can have it on your laptop as well). I use this on my Nexus One and will try it out on the Transformer once I get mine in the next few days.
I'd like to second the "Lookout" suggestion.
Not only can you locate your tablet...you can lock it down (or even wipe it clean) remotely...if you find it's gone.
It won't let me download/install Lookout onto the Transformer. Says "Your device is not compatible with this item". huh???
Ah... didn't see that (I only have it installed on my Galaxy S)! Sorry!
This sucks. PreyProject won't install on the Transformer either! Hmmmm...
see my next post...it's possible according to Lookout Support.
From the Lookout web support:
The reason why you're having trouble finding Lookout in the market for Honeycomb Tabs is due to the fact that the they don't support SMS messages.
We rely on SMS messages to initiate a connection to a device in the event it's lost, stolen, etc. Without the ability to receive SMS messages the missing device features would be greatly hindered, however, device based backups and malware protection would work normally.
Until we release a version that's more compatible with the Honeycomb tabs you can install it using this alternate method:
The first thing you'll want to do is enable the installation of non-market applications. To do this:
Go to settings > application > and check the box next to "Unknown Sources." Go ahead and disregard the warning (by clicking OK), we can uncheck it later.
Next, back out of Settings and open up the web browser.
In the address bar delete everything that's there and type this in (minus quotes): "m.getjar.com" and hit enter.
Now click on "Android" under "Or, Choose your platform." This will bring you to another page where you will see a search box in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Tap the search box, to insert the cursor, and type "Lookout" and tap "go". The search will produce one result, which is "Lookout"
Tap on the link "Lookout Mobile Security with Antivirus".
You will now be on another page that displays a grey "Download" box. Go ahead and tap on it.
The Tablet will show that it's beginning to download the file and you'll see the progress, of the download, in the notification bar.
Tap on the download icon (it looks like a downward facing arrow pointing at a line) and a small window will populate above with the word "lookout-production-signed-aligned.apk" Go ahead and tap on that.
A window that says "Package Installer" pops up. From here you can read the permissions that Lookout requires. Go ahead and tap "Install".
Your installation will start. Tap "Open" once the installation has finished to open Lookout.
Finish setting up Lookout as you normally would!
Still doesn't let me download. It gets me to download and install the GetJar app but then just takes me back to the webpage.
Can someone just post the apk?
Thanks.
here you go
Thanks! Installed and working!
Edit - Maybe not. When I got to mylookout.com and try to locate the device, it asks for a mobile number. Since this is a WIFI device only, I entered in my cell number instead and it fails to locate it. But I guess this app is good for antivirus use.
Now back to the search....
Yes...they said until they get it fully understood for HC use...it would be hindered...
Okay, if the device is on, then it works. It'll scream and locate. But that's not really good if you've misplaced it and it's not activated. I hope they figure something out soon for HC.
It will also allow you go to go your account online and pick it out on a map via GPS.
I found this specifically for tablets and it works as needed.

thanks! that looks like the ticket..

[Q] Korea orbot

Hello,
I recently took the plunge and rooted my asus transformer to the revolution hd ROM. I did this because I learned I couldn't access all of the android market in Korea. I installed orbot, and then hoped it would just work. It is a no go. There are two people, according to my searching, that have gotten orbot to work on the transformer:
valsacar
rezaaz
They have left little information as to how they got orbot to work. But their posts do give me hope.
This is my last hope. If I can't get it to work, I am selling my transformer.
How do I get orbot to work? Or, how do I get full market access?

You have the same habit of leaving very little info for us to help you. Orbit works perfectly for me. You need to tell us what's wrong and why you know it doesn't work. Every little detail helps.
Ah, it must be contagious. (^_^)
I started the orbot app, did the wizard, gave it root, selected both the android market and tegra zone apps to be used in Tor, wrote down the proxy settings(not sure where or how to use them), did not install gibberbot or orweb, and pressed the power icon to start. It turns yellow, with the droids arms out like a 'T', and goes into a loading/waiting loop
I tried fiddling with bridges and exit nodes, but I don't know enough about tor.
Is that enough info?
Looks like a proxy problem. Try a different proxy server.
I opened up orbot, but there doesn't seem to be a 'proxy' setting. Do I change it somewhere else? Or get a proxy app?
Update
I rooted my tablet to the newest Prime and Revolver. Orbot turned green only on Revolver. Orbot turns green and says it is working. I checked by adding the default browser to route through tor, and it was a success.
New problem:I get a message stating 'rejecting requet for anonymous connection to private address [scrubbed] on a Transpor or NATDPort. Possible loop in you NAT rules?'
I have three apps selected for tor:
Market
Market Feedback Agent
Market Updater
I wanted to make sure all of the market was through tor so that I can access it in America. I am going to keep digging, but if anyone has had success, please enlighten the world with your knowledge. (^_^)
@MarcAtony I'm getting the same error on my old MyTouch 3G (esspresso slide) I reolize this is a bit of a thread revival but I was encuraged by another forum to try out running a "Relay" for Bitcoins, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Here's some of the steps I've preformed;
Loged into wireless router and portforwareded 443 to the static IP of my Android. Also port forwareded 9001, the default port for acting as a relay.
On the Orbot app I selected the option "Reachable Address" under settings and left the Reachable ports at thier default values "*:80,*:443"
I also sellected the option "Relaying" and left the port at it's default value "9001"
For the chance of getting paid for running a relay for TOR I edited the "Torrc Custom Config" option and input "ContactInfo [email protected] - <BTC_Address>" on one line just edit the "<BTC_Address>" to something like 1jjXnf... and remove the <> simbles. Only use the example email or one that has been set up through TOR if ya care about anonimimity... also make a new BTC address for this if your the perinoid type.
Then I downloaded the DroidWall app as suggested by the following link
https://blog.torproject.org/blog/mission-impossible-hardening-android-security-and-privacy
~ and set up firewall rules to allow things through on the Android side.
Now working on the "Hidden Service Hosting" option with apps simular as the follwing two
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alfanla.android.pws
https://github.com/bodeme/androidwebserver
Because even though I'm not coonfortable running a Wiki-leaks mirror as suggested bellow
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/create-anonymous-wikileaks-mirror-on-your-android-device/
~ it looks like nearly any type of content can be served off Android through an ~.onion domain.
Any help on the NAT errors would be appresheated but I'm thinking that it's just a firewall issue. Also let me know if you're still around and having issues; this stuff be tricky.
