Hi guys,
In December, I started having problems with my WiFi. When I go into Comm Manager and press the WiFi symbol, I get the WinMo6 "spinner" to let me know it is thinking and then nothing.
Since then I've tried 3 or 4 different ROMs and I am still having the same problem. Is it just time for a new phone? Does anyone have any helpful hints or things to try?
Thanks in advance.
I got this exact same problem too....
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I would really like WiFi back.
I have a similar problem but it will turn on, find the AP but not connect. I have a g-only router ang a b-only router (both unsecured) it will not connect to either, it'll try for a few seconds then stop. I have activate the connect to G router hack in the registry.
from will
As a note, I just turned on the Today Item "Wireless" and WiFi doesn't show up at all. Does that give anyone any clues?
my phone sometimes does this not-connecting-to-available-router-trick, then my usual procedure is to reboot the router.
Sometimes it shows the Icon as connected, but in reality won't even turn on the WiFi, even after a reboot. Then it's a bit more complex... I switch off the AP, then the wireless subsystem, reboot the phone, while it's booting reboot the AP, and THEN activate wireless. This usually shocks it back into sense and it connects just fine. This usually happens after I accidentally use the popup window to control the WiFi, or sometimes randomly. Small problem, but when it happens, pretty annoying...

Yep, sounds just like what happens to me sometimes...
I happened to have same problem with my jasjar for about a year,,,
i started to believe its a hardware problem ...
the thing is i have tried all available ROMS official and not....but sometimes it works most of the times it dowsnt...
well program conflict is not the answer coz even after formatting i still have same problem....
What radio version are you guys using? I think I have 1.18.00. I am using Laurentius26's 2.05.00 ROM.
Guys,
Get a copy of TaskManager and check in the devices tab and check the wlan, also check your services tab.
It is likely that you either
1 Have a bad flash
2 Have a corrupt/unsigned driver
3 A hardware fault
My guess would be 2
Thanks for the response, Beast.
I see this: $device\WWN0(WWN0 Status: Loaded. Startup Type: Automatic. Dll: wwan.dll. Reg Key: Drivers\BuiltIn\WWN
I can stop it and restart it but it doesn't seem to do anything... Any ideas?

check out ZCF1 (zero config) device.
is it okay/loaded? which dll it uses?
and is there any other device that's unloaded?

Mine would be 3. I'm using your ROM, so I trust you didn't include bad drivers
Although when fixed the way I said, it works A-OK...

ZCF1 is loaded and using WZCSVC.dll.
There are 4 unloaded devices: DSK3, DSK2, COM8 and MIX1.
Thanks for your help as well. I hope we can get to the bottom of this.
mzalan - your problem seems different then jrronimo's.
mzalan's problem seems somewhat like something i experienced 2 days ago - relating to the wpa-tkip fix.
although i think your problem has nothing to do with the router, i think rebooting your phone is what does the trick. am i wrong?
i've made a cab for the wpa fix. after installing it my problems were gone.
give it a try - couldn't hurt.
jrronimo - maybe you should give it a shot also?

Yes, you are wrong, I must say. You see, this only happens in the dormitory where stay during weekdays at school. There is one wireless AP there, a small Linksys unit, which only stops working if there are many connections through it(solved, since I limited the number of clients in the DHCP to 10, whit a 30min lease. The tech-man forgot to set a new admin password), or if the flow is too great. My tech-savvy roommate says it dies because the processor is too weak to handle the flow or the many connections, and the firmware hangs, that's why it needs to be reset.
The other thing supporting me is that those are the times when everyone with a laptop in the dorms comes running to me, or just yelling down the corridor for me to "do something about the net". So it can't be my phone only.
The second case, where the icon shows me as connected, however, is only the fault of my phone, but even then the router needs to be turned off before I reboot the phone to sort of "shock WiFi system back into life". Luckily, this does not happen often. But these are the times when everyone keeps asking why there was a drop in the service...

Well, I tried this and it didn't seem to help or hurt. I now see ZCF1: as having the driver wpatkip.dll but loaded or unloaded WiFi doesn't load.
A few times over the weekend, though, it WOULD load up (before I tried the .cab, I think)... but then it would turn itself off. Also, the page in the network settings where you would normally see a list of available access points is just sorta... gone.
sounds like your registry is corrupt. I would format the doc with mtty Task 28 55a and re-flash your rom mate.
That sounds scary but I'm certainly willing to try. The registry doesn't get overwritten when a new image is installed? Eesh.
So... what do I do? heh. I hate to be a noob about it but mtty is not something I've had to deal with before.

Firstly you need to download MTTY, it's floating around this Forum somewhere.
Secondly read the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Technical
This has details of all commands accseible through MTTY.
Yes the reg should be cleared when flashing, however it requires user input to "Clear Storage" after a flash, and it is possible that the DOC is corrupted.
If you still have questions after searching on MTTY, post back and we'll give more help.
I have a problem with my new T-pro it keeps on turning ON Activesync for no reason. everything is setup exactly the same way it was on my TyTN II, but it Starts Activesync all the time....
I keep turning it OFF from Task Manager but it Turns it right back on!!!!
this is really anoying!! Anyone have a clue on how to cure this???

does it show on the screen or in the background as a process??
My tytn II turned on Active sync all the time (in ran in the background as a process). If I shut down active sync on the pda, i would find it running in the background a couple of mins later.
Edit: Although on my previous pda phone, Eten X500+, active sync would stay off until I connected my PDA to the computer. When I disconnected the PDA, the active sync app would close (process would stop). I don't think its an issue, it's just HTC's engineer's at work. Maybe they had issues when active sync closed, like the pda wouldn't sync properly next time is was connected to the computer.
same here, i have a mogul and it would do the same, im guessing it is normal.
Well I've got WkTask installed and it shows on the top title bar...
And it shows in the "Running Program list" in Task Maanager...
I've remove almost everything on the device and deleted my exchange partership and it still Turns on!!!
It is driving me nuts... I'm at the stage of calling HTC... but I know what their answer is to all problems... they will say have tried "Hard Reset" ???
So next step will be that I guess... Unless someone has another Idea...
By the way, another issue but, the battery life is rfeally ****ty on this device compared once again to my TyTN II, I'm not impressed at all so far!!! This morning 07:30 off the charger, toyed with it for a max of 15 minutes in the whole day and the Batt went dead on me arround 18:00!!!!!
And to say that I spent over a Grand ($ 1,150.00) for it, incl all transport, customs, brockerage, import taxes... Not a happy camper at all!!!

That's not true. I feel it IS normal. Every dutty ROM I ever ran on my Kaiser (all of them) This happened. It doesn't happen in the Leo ROMs (all of them) I use though, maybe has to do with the way the ROM is setup.
yep, activesync really ought to be running in the background...it uses hardly any resources and doesnt pester you so why is it such a problem?!?
Try this, it works:

Of course fter soft reset AS will strt ONCE but after you close it it will never start again.

Because this is the only thing I can see that would be draining my Batt so fricking fast...
It has nthing to do with the app it self but the fact that if AS is trying to Sync all the time it turns the Radio ON and Consumes power... which leads to extreme batt drain!!!

I had this battery draining problem too. My workaround was to ensure that Data Connections are set to auto-disconnect after a certain time (for me 1 minute).
This greatly improved my battery life to the point that I now don't mind that ActiveSync is constantly on (however annoying and pointless that may be... previous WM5/6/6.1 ROMs I used on my Trinity never had this occur)
Anyway to auto-disconnect via registry:
HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings
CacheTime=60
(60 seconds before disconnect, change to suit you)
SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
(default is "~GPRS!" which is always on)
Or install Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool, run, and select Menu->Connection Settings and you'll see "Disconnect after :" "x minutes" options.
Try that if it doesn't work there's also an ActiveSync setting that people say chews the battery on any WM device... google will find it for you. I tried it but the auto-disconnect for me worked much better.

Yeh this is the ActiveSync drain I was talking about... I did this but still find ActiveSync restarting itself tho. But at least it doesn't seem to drain battery anymore.

Does this auto disconnect happen no matter what, or only if the connection is inactive?
For example, will it stay connected if im connected to live messenger?
Also, will it turn itself on to get my emails according to the schedule (every 30 mins for me)?
As i red it somewhere, here's how have disabled activesync autostart permanently:
> Disable notification repllog.exe - AppRunAfterTimeChange
And voila, just manual activesync.
Note - You can use DotFred's Task Manager to accomplish this task.

If possible, can you guys please edit the default system.settings on your rom so Settings.System.AIRPLANE_MODE_RADIOS = 'cell, bluetooth' instead of 'cell, bluetooth, wifi'.
That way wifi works on airplane mode.
Bluetooth still doesn't work even if you did AIRPLANE_MODE_RADIOS = 'cell' or even 'cell, wifi'. For some unknown reason.
here is the source code for a program I wrote for this (its on the market), but its pretty easy to change and maybe we won't need my app for it.
Also posted on the issue tracker for android so it gets enabled & fixed for a next release. Here

Are you serious??? Wifi on with Airplane Mode?.... you know what airplane mode is right?... it means no communications from or to the device so it's safe to radio frequencies used in airplanes....
For me the airplane mode is a good way not to get your device turned off while your flying, so you still can play, write docs or anything you want inside your device (listening to music too)...
I don't think that is wise to turn on wifi on airplane mode!

Well for me i would love to have wifi or bluetooth enabled when im in air plane mode. Just useing the device to listen to music or do little things would save alot of power

Usually, when you talk about something is because you know, or because you at least researched:
- Some airlines are starting to implement Wi-Fi on some of their planes
- Some phones let you turn on wifi while on airplane mode.
- Since iPhone OS version 2.0, you can enable wifi while on airplane mode, and now, since iPhone OS version 3.0, you can enable bluetooth while on airplane mode.
- Some Nokia phones ask you what do you want to disable when you go in airplane mode, they let the user choose.

American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America, Southwest, Delta, Continental and some of the smaller airlines started offering In-Flight WiFi last year. The planes that are WiFi capable are usually newer and/or have updated electrical and communications systems, not the 40 year old hub jumpers flying from Dallas to St Louis.
Normal WiFi operates on the 2500 to 5000 Mhz radio spectrum. Inflight WiFi operates on the 849 Mhz radio band, which is dedicated solely to inflight WiFi. While this is in the sub100 to 2000 Mhz radio spectrum that the airplanes communication and navigation systems operate on, the systems ignore the 849 Mhz frequency. You have to disable the cellular phone signal because it operates on the 850 and 1900 Mhz radio bands, which are also used by and could possibly interfere with the planes communication equipment. FM radios also need to be off because they operate from 76 to 108 Mhz, also in the range of the comm equipment. Even though the plane flies through radio signals in this range all the time with no ill effects, they ask that those devices be turned off as a precautionary measure, as in better safe than sorry.
BTW, me=aerospace engineer, also good at research.

No problem. This is a feature I'd like to see implemented as well, because it saves having to haul out the laptop to check emails and text/chat mid-flight, only to find I'm in a row with no power outlet (this happened once on my way to Japan, worst 16 hours of my life). I just wish there was a way around the NO VoIP restriction.
this is totally a good Idea..

i just love to use that line.

Well, when you go into airplane mode radio gets turned off. However, if you shutdown sync, from my understanding, you won't be able to use gmail (please correct me if I'm wrong). There might be a few processes that can be killed but I don't think it'll do that much of a difference in terms of battery life or performance since it'll only be 1 maybe 2 services.
What cyanogen meant by his tweet was that he will change the sync toggle on the donut power widget, and replace it with a radio toggle, so you can just shutdown the cellphone radio and then you won't have to worry about wifi, bluetooth, etc not working in airplane mode. So, you'll actually won't be using the "airplane mode" option, just the "radio off" option...
I think that's a great idea for his rom, however, I don't think that would be something that will be done on android donut's branch or other long term branches, we need to try to put the ability to select what you want to turn off when you go officially into airplane mode, that way it doesn't confuse people and/or people think that android phones can't go into wifi because they don't really understand what "radio off" really does.
mmMMm.... whatever I just wrote sounded complicated... sorry if nobody understands, I'm a really bad "teacher", sometimes I don't know how to explain things clearly and correct.

Yup... feelling kinda burned! hehehe... anyways, learning new things every day
Isn't there a way to just turn off phone functions? Some time ago I had an HP iPaq hw6945 (great phone by the way), and you have the possibility to turn off the "Phone" (kinda locks the sim card) so you could use the phone as a regular PDA. This way you could turn on the wifi and use it the way you like. In the G1 if the sim card gets locked then the lockscreen pops up and you can't use your device at all. Can be posible to lock the sim card without locking the phone? This could help this inflight-wifi request, I think.
Edit: This is just an idea, please don't burn me again!

Yes there is. You need to install AnyCut, free, or BetterCut, not free. And add a new application shortcut for "Phone Info".
Then open the "phone info" icon on your home screen, and go all the way down and there will be a button that says "Turn off radio"
As you can see, its a tedious process and it's why we would like options for the Airplane Mode, something like what my app does. For now, cyanogen is trying to switch the sync toggle on the power widget, and replace it with a radio toggle so you can do exactly what you want, but easy and fast.
This took me a while, but I finally figured it out through trial and error. I know there are a few options out there for tethering, but this has always been the preferred way to tether when I was using the Diamond. It's wireless, you can initiate the connection from the PC, and it gives you better battery life than WMWiFiRouter or HTC Wifi Sharing. Best of all, you DO NOT need to initiate a DATA connection on the phone before connecting to your PC! Just fire up the BT DUN connection on your PC, click Dial, then browse the web!
Here's how we do this:
Install DotFred's TaskManager
Click select Menu, Tab Options, Select Tab, Services. Find "CM Guardian", click and hold until menu pop up and select "Set Manual".
Make the following changes on your TP2 with a Registry editor:
1. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing]
Extension="" Delete the "isext.dll"
2. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\InternetSharing\settings]
ForceCellConnection="Sprint"
3. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\OEM\Wmodem]
Check Profile=0
Connected=0
Multi-NAI=0
WModemDUN=0
4. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WIDCOMM\Plugin\DUNServ er\ControlPanel]
Enabled=1
That's it! Re-pair your TP2 to your PC and BT DUN should be available as one of the services. Create a new DUN profile on your PC, leave username and password blank, and set dial number as #777. Click dial and you should be able to connect... just like old times.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been ripping my hair out over this. However, I am on Verizon and thus my HTC Touch Pro2 has somewhat different entries in the registry than Sprint does. Does anyone know how to get DUN working with the HTC Touch Pro2 on Verizon? I bought a laptop specifically with Bluetooth just to use my phone as the modem but cannot get it working for my life.
After I did all the registry edits I could that you mentioned (even though all of them were not available since I'm on a different provider) I noticed when I try to dial out for a SPLIT second I will see "Dial Up Networking" listed under Bluetooth services. Windows promptly gives me a dialing error and that service on my phone disappears.
Anyone can give any pointers?
I don't have a Service called "CM Guardian". I have a custom ROM, would that make a difference?

Yes, some Rom chefs may have eliminated this service. I know MightyMike left it in his Rom, but I have not tested others on the TP2.

Would this service be in WM6.5? If I download MightyMike's ROM would it be in there or is it only in WM6.1?
Thanks for this.

MightyMike's Rom does indeed have CMGaurdian. I cannot speak for other TP2 Roms, but his does.

Can anyone give any pointers on getting this to work on the Verizon version of the phone? Been searching high and low!
There is no "CMGaurdian" on my phone. I did a full search for it and it's nowhere to be found. I have the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 rom. But it looks like without being able to set that as manual, I have to change the registry everytime I end up having to restart my phone. But even when I do that, it still goes back to phone as modem after a few minutes instead of staying on Sprint.
Awesome!
Thanks for the info. The connection sharing wasn't working for me anyway.
Just an FYI, you can optionally edit the registery to set the CMGuardian to Manual.
Open a reg editor and navigate to [HKLM\Services\CMGuardian]
Locate the Index key and change the value from 2 (default) to 1.
So anyone on Sprint TP2 with 6.5 stock rom actually got Wmodem to work? I've spent about 24 hr trying just about everything with no luck so far.
I made all the above reg changes, have WModem v02 installed on my TP2. Activate the wmodem prog, connect to computer with usb cable. When i try to connect on my computer, it stucked on verifying user name and pass. There is some sort of data connection going on on the phone itself, but the computer connected to the phone couldn't seem to go pass that "verifying user name and pass"
Much appreciated any help or comment. Thanks
Just wanted to add that I found this thread useful, got the registry entries and made a cab for it. This is for Sprint only! Download, install, and go, no need for registry editing!
Problem tethering via Bluetooth DUN to pspgo
Ok, I am pulling MY hair out on my ATT tilt 2. I am trying to use my fone as a bluetooth modem for my pspgo.
It seems that my Tilt 2 receives the data from the pspgo, but its not sending any data to the pspgo, when I test the connection the tilt2 receives about 9-16 bytes, but it says sent: 0 bytes.
I have energyROM july 16 2010 WWE winmo 6.5
Manilla 2.5.20161332.0
Build: 23563.5.5.0
I have seen vids of people doing this on the Raphael (FUZE) and other phones
I keep getting this connection error on my psp: (8030000B) I have tried so many dial #'s, changing settings, PDAnet,
I think the problem has something to do with:
it being WinMo 6.5 or
The custom ROM has disabled something in the Bluetooth or
Since the ROM is custom, the psp wont recognize this for some reason because just like the WIFI router; the carrier doesn't know I'm tethering. or
I have the wrong Dial-up # or
Authentication settings or Initialization command is wrong or
I need to use a Proxy network
Some other reason ( The ROMS BT stack) whatever that is lol
Does anyone have this or similar problem? Or know whats happening here?
Any help would be awesome!
Thank you
Worked Perfectly
After making the changes you suggested, this worked perfectly on my TP2. It's so funny, after I initially got my TP2 and tried it, I instantly gave up. Now that I'm a month away from going to a new carrier, and most likely a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, I got really interested in getting this working. It was a breeze using the Resco Explorer Demo with included Registry Editor.
TP2 Stock WM6.5
Doesnt work for me. I dont have CMGuardian.
I went ahead and edited the registry anyway and still didnt work even after rebooting.
I'm hoping someone can help figure this out... Trying to tether with my new Xoom!
Thanks a lot defcon6, I was looking for this some time ago, but no look, but know, looking for some other thing i found it, thanks again
Same here, stock 6.5 rom and no CMGuardian. Did you ever figure this out?
Never mind, I did run the cab from pengc99 and it worked fine. After soft reset of the phone, it never got out of the "modem negotiating" state but running the cab again fixed it. Now if I just could find the equivalent to CMGuradian I would be all set but this is at least working.
Bluetooth setting to ALWAYS ON?
Thanks to this thread and the pengc99 file, I successfully (quite some time ago) paired my TP2 via the bluetooth to a Nexus 7 tablet as well as an android phone, but each time I turn on the phone, I have to go through the following steps:
1. Select Communication Manager
2. Turn ON the Data Connection
2. Click on Bluetooth
3. Select one of my paired devices, such as the Nexus 7 by clicking the large "+" icon
4. Select Bluetooth Networking
5. Select the "Share Internet Connection" option
6. Click Continue on the bottom
I tried various registry edit searches here and on google, but cant' find any way to lessen these steps or preferably have the Bluetooth sharing set to ON at all times. If anyone knows how to simplify this process, please post the stops or file that will help us all.
Thanks in advance
Hey dudes,
im sure many of you already know this, but i figured id post it for those who may not be aware of this possible fix.
for the last few days ive been playing around with igo8 on my HD2, and i have been a little disappointed with the way this program performs. i have had lots of trouble getting a GPS lock, and frequently getting the "gps receiver cannot be found", message while trying to detect the devices GPS.
i think i may have a solution for any of you experiencing the same issue.
my solutions is to disable AGPS, in the HTC's Locations seetings menu.
after doing this, i have had great success getting a GPS lock - even indoors.
hope this helps a few of you.
cheers.
------------EDIT-------------
ps: i also have my GPS settings (in igo8) set to Port 4, with a Baut Rate of 38400.
i get a GPS fix within half a second of opening the igo8 map screen.
good luck.
no problem man. i figured id just make a post for those who may have been searching (or googleing) for "igo8" or "gps receiver cannot be found" rather than the specific "AGPS" setting. i spent quite a bit of time searching for everything excpet AGPS... seeing as though i had no idea AGPS was the cause of my problem.
so i thought i make the post for peeps in my situation, and also just to confirm that this AGPS thing might be an actual fix.
thanks for the reply dude.
ps: i dont mean my reply to sound like an A-hole, just wording it as simple as i can.
cheers.

Hello
can't find disable AGPS, in the HTC's Locations seetings menu
using miri 6.5.X V6
can you explain more or screen shot
hey mate. just gotta go to htc settings screen > location > then hit the on/off switch on the right. check the screen shot.
The agps part is missing on my 1.66 wwe rom. Is there something I am missing?
not too sure mate. if its a custom ROM, the ROM chef may have removed the AGPS feature. otherwise its possible your ROM simply does not contain the AGPS service.
if you cannot see it, and your ROM does not have it... then it shouldnt be causing any problems. are you having difficulty with your SatNav program?
I also don't have that setting in my official htc 1.66 NLD rom. Is there any other way to disable it? I kind of am curious if it improves my iGO8. Although I don't really have a problem. Only sometimes it takes a minute or two to get a fix.
Port Issue
Hi all,
i have an issue in finding the GPS signal as when i go the customize the external GPS under settings i assign the COM2 under Programs and the port to COM9 with Baud Rate 4800 and under access clicked the Manage GPS Automatically, then when i press on ok and go to get the GPS signal on iGO it cannot be located ...
i go back to external and found that the port is NONE...put it back to COM9 click OK and check it back ...it turns to NONE............installed new official ROM, cooked ROMs, other radios and even other GPS like Route66 and navigon but always the same problem cant get the GPS signal.......
any help
Cobrav... in your "external gps" settings, try set your GPS program port to COM4, the hardware i believe is irrelevant, because you are not plugging an external GPS device in (so set your GPS hardware port to 'none), and have 'manage GPS automatically' checked in the access tab. this is how i have my device set (having igo8 set to the port and baud rate from the first post), and with AGPS disabled... igo works like a charm. let me know if you have any further problems.
Cenobite_ & Agoattamer... not too sure why the AGPS service is not visable or present in your ROM. but if your not experiencing any crippleing problems with your SatNav apps... i wouldnt worry about it. the problem i was having with igo8 before disabling AGPS was making igo8 almost unuseable. one thing you can try though... in a file explorer, navigate to your devices windows folder (having all show hidden files settings checked) look for a .EXE file called AGPSSettings.exe. if this exists, run this .EXE and disable the AGPS setting. if this .EXE does not exist, its probably pretty safe to assume that there is no AGPS service on your phone, hence it will not cause any issues for you.

thank you,
don't have this setting in miri 6.5.X rom
any way I turn around this issue by launch OZI and after GPS locked I close OZI and launch IGO
Actually I have no issue connecting with iGO8. Just curious why the setting wasn't there in my official 1.66 rom. Phone is labeled as having agps but not one setting for it. So I don't know if it is off or on. Now I don't live in a big city but it would be nice to be able to enable it if entering a big city with many tall buildings.
What rom do you have, that you have this setting?
im using the stock Telstra ROM - 1.49.841.1 (71528) WWE.
so it seems my ROM is older than yours.
Thanks. I actually have a T9193. HTC must have felt the need to do away with that setting for some reason.
agreed. i also have the T9193, but it seems theyve omitted the AGPS setting/feature in the more recent ROMs. good call HTC.
