Tried a soft-reset? If so, and it doesn't work, I think the best way is to backup and perform a hard-reset.

That did not work... And even as i did a hard-reset and performed a backup of all programs. When i restored the backup, the problem reoccurred...
So, i guess ill have to re-install all programs. Luckily all my documents, sms, contacts and email has been backed up to microsoft myphone/live...
it just takes too much time installing all apps over again..!
Then I think there are some corrupt files, which is very unfortunate because corrrupt files aren't fixable.
Maybe you can try an older backup, so you can see if you still have the problem then.

I´m using NotTooSmart vanilla and really loved it but now I cannot execute Messaging program. No SMS, no MMS and no email. I don´t know why???
When I go to Programs - Messaging nothig happens. When I press button 1 nothing happens.
Why????
Can´t find help in the forum yet.
Same after ahrdreset and backup
I did a hardreset and messaging is working. But after restoring by SKTools - nothing happens again. I don´t know when messaging stops working. SO I think I´ve got to set up phon efrom bottom. Urgh:

I dont understand what you are having backed up with SKtools. This being said, any backup made with SKtools should be used only on the rom you made it with. Every rom is diffrent as every chef is diffrent. Set it up from scratch and make a new backup. then when you hardreset you should be ok to use those backups.
It is your rom
I ran SKtools after setup everything with your vanilla ROM. Tha is clear. But while installing everything there must be a mistake - I don´t have messaging programs. I´ve set email accounts and everything was ok, stable and very fast. Today I recognized, that I couldn´t write anny message. It only makes nothing by pushing button 1. It makes nothing, when I go to Programs - Messaging.
After hardreset everything works great. So while installing and befor making a bakup of your ROM and my settings - there must be a break in these part. So after restore I have the same problem like before. So I have to install everything again. My fault I think.
But the backup I made is naturaly from your ROM.
You realize you are backing up and restoring on WM6 and most tools are not upgraded for WM6 yet. Could be that SKtools restore (or backup) doesn't work quite right with WM6. Just a guess, but anyone running WM6 should realize that some things just may not work (or appear to work but then break, or worse, break other things due to bad interactions).
Welcome to the bleeding edge!
First test
It hase been my first test with SKTools and everything is fine. Everything works. But perhaps I haven´t realized that messaging was not running before I made the backup. So when I restore - I restore the mistake. So I´ve got to hardreset and start again.
No problem. Third time this week with different ROM
I read from another thread that the way wm6 stores the contact list is quite different from wm5. Maybe this is why SKTools can't restore the backup correctly on wm6.
No problem
Backup works perfektly.
I cannot run any messageaplication.

same thing here. Backup with spb backup 1.55 does work fine for other wm6 rom but don't work (restoring) for this rom.
spb works fine but doesn't restore the messenges which are backuped, the rest of the restore works great
strange

Hard reset made it
After one hour and ahrdreset, messaging is again working. Don´t know why it was broken.
But now have again 25MB after sktools optimize.
Running fast.
Thank you.
I am having a problem with ActiveSync on my phone an Orange M700 running the HTC P3600 ROM. It was working with no problems until a few weeks ago when it stopped syncing. I have tested the laptop with another PPC and ActiveSync notices it straight away.
I have installed ActiveSync 4.5 to no avail so I returned to 4.2 and still nothing. I deleted all partnerships in both the phone and the laptop and when I plugged it back in the Windows saw the device as there was a pop up bubble in the bottom right corner but ActiveSync never kicked in.
I have had a look at the ActiveSync settings in the M700 but everything looks fine to me.
I have also been having problems with my 3G connection not connecting and doing the regular syncs it normally does e.g. my personal mail every 5 mins, my yahoo mail every hour and the weather every 2 hours. The only thing that has changed in this time is that I installed Fring, I can't imagine its related but I uninstalled Fring just in case but still no luck.
Anyone got any ideas how to fix it as I have some new appointments (I'm not sure which ones) in my PDA which I want to get synced before messing around with hard resets etc.
Thanks
Did you delete any notifications of any kind, usually replog files? If YES, then you just deleted your notification to activate Active Sync on your computer. You can solve that easily by returning the file. READ this for the solution: http://www.cs.pitt.edu/~jmisurda/ppc/blog/index.php?entry=entry051203-201515

I don't think I did that but I tried the file anyway, still no joy. I think my phone is also vibrating when I plug it into the PC now, very strange.

Have you ever used Check Notifications? It is a free software to clear away JUNK notifications.
Link: http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/cn_overview.html
Sometimes, our PPC just creates duplicates of certain Notifications that can cause conflicts with some softwares. Maybe this is what is happening in your device. You can try and download Check Notifications, even though it says it is only compatible with WM 2003, I use it for my HTC Universal (WM5). Just go to Check Notifications settings and tick the 3 choices, run it and CLEAR those pesky bugs.

Right I ticked the three boxes and cleared the issues but still nothing
Normally I'd just hard reset but I am worried about losing appointments I've forgotten I have made since my last sync.

I don't know what else to suggest.
If you do decide to HARD RESET, take a look at this FREE BABKUP program for contacts and calendar events: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705&highlight=backup
I hate doing hard resets myself, that is why I have SPB Backup configured to do automatic backups everyday at 5AM.
Good Luck...

Thanks for your help.
I'm not sure how I am going to progress this. My major issue is that we use GroupWise at work with a third party app to allow the PocketPCs to sync with it. When you set it up it blanks the device before you can do anything, if I wait and import everything after this it usually can't cope with the levels of changes and kills the system on the server.
Oh joy, why wasn't someone looking at the "bigger picture" when we choose an e-mail system.....
I started off with the Mystic Win6.5 ROM, then EnergyROM, and now Shep's ROM, and have had the problem with all of them. I have loaded the OEM ROM before loading each custom ROM, and have done necessary Hardresets.
The problem is, when I import my contacts using either Activesync, Outlook, or Missing Sync, the phone decides to "freeze"; by this I mean that the application terminates, but the application window is still there (kind of like a Not Responding application on windows PC)
I also used PIM Backup, but when I restore from a backup, the problem still occurs.
My question: Has this happened to anyone else, and how can I fix it?
Thanks in advance!

Which device are we talking about?
Oh Sorry, I was talking about the HTC (Fuze) Touch Pro
My Solution: Avoid importing via anything but the SIM Card itself. Do a hard reset, and after customization, "SIM Card Changed" configuration will allow you to import your contacts.
I'm not sure how it happened. But my TF3d displays that I have one new text message, even though I've checked and cleared all my sms/mms to be sure. The inbox in windows says "Inbox [1]" too, and yet nothing.
I've already tried clearing out all my messages. Restarting the phone. Taking the battery out. Nothin, still saying 1 new message.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?

The download link doesn't seem to work?
I had a stock Microsoft message in my outlook e-mail inbox. At the time I had 3 messaging accounts (so to speak), SMS, Gmail, and Outlook E-mail. That Outlook E-mail account is always there, regardless of if you set it up or use it. It took me a while to find, make sure you check all your folders.
I checked that. It's in my SMS/MMS Inbox supposedly.
But there are no new messages in there.
I HAD the same problem.
I had the same problem. Try both of these attachments.
I don't remember which one worked for me and which one didn't, but my first attempt did not work.
I did have to reset my phone before it worked. I don't know if it matters but I pulled the battery for 2 minutes also.
Hope this helps.
AH-HAH!
The fix unread count exe seemed to do it with a restart.
Thanks!
Another way to fix this without a file is to go into settings/text messages and click the normal mode (or whatever isn't threaded) reboot and the offending message will be there. Once the count has ticked off, enable threaded messaging again, and you will be good to go.
It worked!
I used the FixUnreadCount.zip file and soft reset my phone.
Thanks!

yea it didnt work for me, but once i ran the program and did the soft reset it took about a min. after it booted up to correct its self
Also go into your Recycle Bin in your sms/mms or email accounts and delete those too...they don't automatically get deleted and sometimes will make the counter say 1 message still if those arn't deleted.
this happened to me also earlier today, i got so frustrated after nothing worked that i hard reset......ahhhh!!! so dumb for not checking here
Kick ass!! The FixUnreadCount.zip fixed this same problem for me. I ran the .exe on the phone and then reset it and now it's fixed. I was about to hard reset this damn phone. I was running MightyROM by the way when this problem happened, NOT the stock ROM...not sure if that matters.
I had this problem too. All I did was use File Explorer, Go to My Device > Windows > Messaging and delete everything in there and that did the trick.

I used the FixUnreadCound file and rebooted and after about 20 seconds the count in the text and email were gone.

FixUnreadCount.zip worked for me on my HTC Tilt 2 after a reset.
Power cycle didn't help, but the "red button" reset did.
Much appreciated!
Ever since the ICS upgrade, one contact's message thread refuses to open and is stuck on "O Loading" with that little circle revolving.
I downloaded go sms pro before and I was able to access his thread through that and the message count wasn't over the maximum limit per contact. I've since gone back to the stock app as he's out of the country and it's faster than go sms pro but he recently txted me and caused the problem to occur with other contacts (though a reset of the phone solves their issue)
Does anyone have a solution and failing that, advice? I should say right now that deleting his message thread is the last resort.

You could try to backup your messages (you can find some apps for that in the market), then delete all your contacts, and afterwards restore them again~
Though no idea if it will work :/

Aye I could try it with a contact whose messages I don't mind losing and seeing if that works, thanks for the tip!
You can also use Google Voice, and have it copy all the messages to your Gmail account.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
So I started backing up and restoring and I was able to open all contacts' threads. The backup never fully restores all messages though and I have to keep hitting "restore" so that it'll restore them all up to the present day. Don't know why it's doing it this way.
Just now I've checked and that one contact won't open again. What I might do is try and restore all to the present, delete loads of messages I don't want, and backup this new message history.
I know this is most likely far too late but I was having the same problems and found this thread while trying to sort it and hope it will help anyone else in future who has the same problems. I tried backing up and restoring (Using both the default and sms back-up and restore) deleting the thread and restoring, eventually I solved it by installing handscent, deleting the messages sent/received back to when the problem started in that thread and a few before, then went in settings, apps, then all, messages cleared the cache, restarted and it is sorted!!

Yeah it never resolved itself but I love the customisation of go sms pro so much that I don't mind anymore. Pity go sms pro crashes every so often and I think it slows the phone down.
I was going to start a new thread but see that this is the same problem I have.
I have a mt4gs (Doubleshot) and the problem described in this thread has happened twice. Both times i was receiving a text message and did something else with the phone at the same moment, and it seems to have jammed up the receipt of that text. The first time, i sent a text to the person at the same moment i received one. The second time, i locked the screen at the moment one arrived. Now that thread never loads, and loading other threads or contacts takes much longer than it should. In fact, i don't think contacts would ever load if i were willing to wait forever.
The first time I backed up the texts, reset the device, and restored, and everything worked fine, but that's a really time-consuming process and it seems like a ridiculous workaround for some broken buffer or queue in Android messaging.
It seems that there must be a direct fix for this. If it's easy enough to break messaging that it has happened to me twice, it must be a fairly common problem. But a search has turned up nothing but people saying there are too many messages or to use an alternative app for messaging. That's (1) incorrect and (2) again an ugly workaround for a problem with core functionality.
