How do I get to google without using this ridiculous crippled page for weak mobile devices? I want the full google search that leads me to full websites, rather than a crippled google search that leads me to parsed websites for use with eight year old Nokia browsers, so someone please enlighten me, as I can't seem to find the answer to this.

You can click on "Preferences" on the bottom of Google's homepage to change whether Google formats the results for your phone or not. Is that what you're looking for?
I checked, there's not even an option for that in prefs.

Strange, I have that option. What browser are you using?
PIE.. wasn't too impressed with the performance of anything else.

Okay, so here's where I think I might be confused by what you're saying. When I search using Google with PIE, I get every result I would normally get on my laptop/desktop. The only difference is that the resulting pages will be formatted differently to look a bit better on a mobile device, but the pages are complete.
The only thing I can see that you might be talking about is that there's an option on Google.com to search "Mobile Web (Beta)", under the search button, which does bring up limited, or "crippled" results. But you have to manually click that option each time you search.
I wish it were that simple.. when I go to google.com, it brings me straight to a mobile version of google, with no option of changing to a non-mobile version.
It's not so much that I have a mobile version of google, as it is that google wants to parse all of the sites I go to from the search results.

Well, yeah, I get taken directly to www.google.com/m rather than the standard www.google.com when I'm using PIE. Is that the same mobile site you're directed to? If it is, I might be at a loss on this one. I'm not getting the same limitations you are and I can't seem to replicate it either.
Most of the time I find their reformatted page better for viewing. However if you navigate to a link where you actually need to view the full page unaltered you can click the "view in html" link at the bottom and it will bring you to the unaltered page. Hope that helps.
Ok. So my grandfather is a tech freak and he asked me to find him a good touchscreen phone, so I thought that WP7 would be a good choice for someone of his age because the size of the tiles...
He uses his phone only to make phone calls and to add/edit contacts. Maybe read (not write) a message once a week...
That's why I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there is an app/tweak that would allow me to add a tile that would work as a direct CALL shortcut to a person it is linked to? The way Android and jailbroken iOS do...
Thanks in advance...
You can pin contacts to your homescreen.

You don't need to jailbreak the phone to do this.
Go to your contact list. Tap on the person you want to have on the home screen and you will find three buttons at the bottom. Click on the 'pin' button and you will have that person on your home screen! Simples.
EDIT; I meant you don't need to jailbreak 'a windows phone' to do this
And this might be better off in Question & Answers section.
To add to this also, you can make a group and pin it also to the screen, like "Family". When you click on the group it will only show those that you placed in it which you can click on to call, text ec.

Thanks for the replies. I saw earlier on a youtube video what you were referring to about pinning a person...
But I didn't get a reply on one thing... Can that tile be used as a direct call shortcut? Without it opening the contact info and than selecting a number to call.
Nope, just a shortcut to the contact card

By default it cannot. But an app could be written to do this. It will still require a confirm to call, similar to using the SmartDialer app.
There are plenty of apps that will take you to favorites to directly dial a specific number of a contact. Unfortunately, none of the ones I found allow you to pin that particular favorite to the main screen. Maybe I should write an app to do this.
How about "Lightning dial" app? It will save you a lot of homescreen tiles.

That looks interesting. It's close enough but not exactly...
Under settings->personalize->lock screen style I have the "productivity" lock screen setting chosen in order to display calender, texts, etc on the lock screen.
Whenever I get a text the contacts phone number is displayed on the lock screen with the message rather than the contact's actual name.
Does anyone have this bug?
I've got it. I assume it's a setting I haven't figured out how to change. If it's permanent I might be a little frustrated but it is kind of nice for privacy

I'm pretty sure it's not a setting, I've looked through settings everywhere. I found a setting under the privacy setting to enable or disable displaying text message text - but nothing related to the contact name / number.
I fixed it by going in and editing each individual number in google contacts and taking them from the 1 (###) ###-#### format to just ########## all consecutive.
Thanks! How did you think to do that? And why does it make a difference? Did it also fix the lag in display names in the messages app for you?

Don't have access to enough friend's phones right now to test that but thanks for reporting.
Even if this work around works it's still an issue - I'm sure all of us and HTC will agree that the format of the number shouldn't matter.

You don't need your friend's phone to do that. Just go to contacts.google.com and edit your existing contacts so their phone number is in the correct format.

No, what I was saying is I didn't have other people near me to text me so that I could test out the theory.
There's no way I'm combing through my contacts to remove the parenthesis and dashes from the stored phone numbers to fix this.
I reported the issue to HTC here: http://www.htc.com/us/support/email-support
The more that report it the faster it will be fixed - and hopefully be in the next update.

Ah, I misunderstood you. Sorry about that. I decided to give it a shot just by fixing a couple of numbers of people that I text the most. If it works for them, I'll consider combing through the rest of my people.
Yeah it sucked, but it definitely made it better. I get a full notification on my lock screen from who is sending it by name, and I never have an issue while in the texting app seeing the number and not the name. All around, it's an improvement, and it was much needed. Lol.
I opened this thread because I did not find any relevant information about google now in the other threads.
I realized that Google Now in Nexus S does not have the same answers with cards, as in the Galaxy Nexus.
Do you know why? have you noticed other differences?
Make sure you have "Search on Google.com" enabled in Google now ->Settings -> Privacy and Accounts, since the Knowledge graph which powers it is more or less limited to Google.com at the moment.
My problem with Google Now is limited to voice search. Besides the ocassional slow start up, it seems the graphics/UI/animation have trouble keeping up with the audio (chime, audio input, audio output), which hurts when it activates a voice action but you can't see the card to check if it's right or not. Does everybody else get this?
I already have google.com enable but I was never able to get any card.
I tried several examples that work with GNexus
Did you get a card using voice search?
In my Nexus S I also noticed the slow start up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to make a home screen shortcut to google now? I use ADW EX for a launcher and it doesn't have the option yet in the Swipe Up setting to launch google now, but if there's a way to make a shortcut, you can set swipe up to launch an app or shortcut.
Also, I can't seem to setup the sports cards. I follow Formula 1 in the summer, but also NBA summer leagues, but I can't setup the sports cards to give me any information at all on these things.

No need, in Jelly Bean the Search button is permanently mapped to Google now system wide (you can't use it for app specific search anymore). If you still want a shortcut, just make a shortcut to the Google app. Google app = Google now.
So...egg on my face. Hit the "search" capacitive button and it went straight to google now. Embarrassed.
Now, about those sports teams....I read an article that teams you search for in Google are enabled in the "edit teams" option, which is currently greyed out for me. Anybody get this option enabled? I've tried many things and it's not working for me.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788719
Enables you to use the search button and make a typing search instead of voice search, but the best part is the microphone in the widget still works if you want.
So click the search button brings typing even if voice is activated. 2 in 1
Enjoy

While in Google Now, hit the capacitive menu button, choose Settings, choose Google Now, and then customize each card category.
You have to set the phone to English as system language to get it working correctly. In Swedish or other languages it only does a voice search..

Summer leagues are not official, so they won't show up as cards. When the season starts cards will show up.
Its baseball season, so I get the daily schedule when I ask.

Hey I can't get any cards up other then the weather card. I don't know if it's just me but the voice searching/commands kinda suck. And there was another guy that said that his "edit teams" in the sports card section is grayed out, this is true with me also. Won't even let me click anything in any sport; anyone know how to fix that?
Is there also specific things you have to say for this woman to respond back to you with an answer? I was trying to tell "can you set an appointment for monday july 23th and 8:15am" and it would send me to google.com to get an appointment manager

well that cleared up alot for me lol... I was misunderstanding the entire concept behind google now... I know that it was a helpful tool to tell you traffic details and reminders and **** like that... But i thought it was a giant voice searching engine as well... But i guess it doesnt help at all when you dont have data  now you can ask "why the **** do you have an android with no data" LOL
Google Now is just another gimmick which I have turned off to try and help the terrible battery life.

My previous phone was the lg options g and the one thing I loved was LG's quick memo. Is there any chance of getting it ported to the nexus 5 or is there something similar?
Sorry if this has already been done or asked, but my search came up empty.
Thanks

"Ink over apps" does the same thing sort of. It let's you write on the current screen. It's a paid app though... only one I've seen of its kind in the Google store.

Look no further than google keep. sync across devices, store photos notes etc , even use voice to dictate a meme, I find it invaluable and easier to use than evernote.

Google Keep is amazing. Quick, easy, simple, and it works. Easy to set reminders too.
I already use Google keep. However, lg quick memo works differently than that. It allows you to write over your background. For example, if I get a call from a number I don't know, I would go to call history, enter quick memo to write the number on the screen. Then tap a button which allows me to browse the phone while that number stays on the screen so I can search that number without trying to remember it or write it on paper. Its all right in front of you. Obviously there is more uses for it than that.
I still have my rooted lg optimus g so I can pull the all from there. Not sure if that will work though.

I imagine you could set this up with Tasker. Take a screenshot which triggers it to be edited with a simple image editor, draw and save. Maybe assign it all to up+power instead of down.
