I love the new lock screen for "Flan" (featured in some of the Cannon202's Eclair rom) but i want to stick with 1.6 since it seem like 1.6 run better on the G1 than 2.1. Any Dev out there that have some free time to port the lockscreen? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.
P.S i did spend some time to seach the G1 forum and couldnt find a post on this.

flyscreen also uses the same lock screen with added features of course, just check that out...

I have tried lockbot so that I could have a slide to unlock feature but using an app as your lock screen never works as well as a true lock screen.

And that is because you have not yet seen one with HARDWARE DRIVERS. Nothing to do with RAM, everything to do with SOFTWARE GL.

yea thats eclair 2.1 ... i believe it was also in 2.0.1(the driod update) ... and i dont think it will be portable to 1.6.. because if it was it would of been done already.. many people had asked for it when eclair came out..

I'm not convinced. At all. I did a fair bit of work trying to shoehorn Eclair onto the g1 when it first dropped into the source tree.. GL or no GL, it really struggles on this phone.
It is impossible to port a lockscreen to another version of android.

Its not GL.
It is DEFINITELY ***NO GL***.
I don't care how much you tried to "shoehorn" it in, you didn't have the GL drivers, and thus everything was running on the CPU... slowly.
Have a look in frameworks/base/opengl/libagl/
That is what is making it SO SLOW.
Having all that crap suck up the CPU and MEMORY.....
Do you remember when you bought your first 3D accelerator for your desktop computer? Back in the day? Probably a voodoo 2 or voodoo 3 in the late 90's... maybe even one of those crazy voodoo 1 things (or similar) that hung off the side of some other video card.... You remember how much of a difference it made?
Like this;
The 3D accelerator is MUCH MORE EFFICIENT than the CPU at performing these operations. So lets say that about 1 cycle of the GPU would take 100 cycles of the CPU to replace.... now that will displace the CPU from doing what it SHOULD be doing.... thus making the thing slow overall.
Also... fact does not depend on convincing YOU.

I remember this coming up a few months ago, and I thought the 2.1 lockscreen on 1.5 was a no go...
What's the deal you drop 2.1 to get back to 1.5?
it's possible, but i doubt anyone is willing to backport the apk to 1.5 especially with 2.1 dropping within a few weeks. The nexus one news and weather widget was backported for example, but i dont think people are willing to put in all this effort with 2.1 around the corner.

stock android lockscreens are not apk.s they are in the codes you can run the stock donut lockscreen when on donut roms or enclair lockscreens when on enclair

mine slept fine with it installed but it laged to much for me to keep so i went back to custom locksceens from NOJ (for 1.5 roms)

kind of. for me it was too laggy for a replacement. i'd press menu and have to wait for lockbot to bring up the lockscreen. it was counterproductive for just a nicer looking screen.

exactly why i just uninstalled it after 48 hours of use...
also, its not treated like a regular lockscreen and my handscent messages were popping up over it even though i have the setting to only show after the lockscreen is removed which works perfectly again after uninstall... nice concept, but not refined enough for me...

+1 to everything above. Also it doesn't allow the adjustment of media volume when the screen is off.
I don't care about 2.1 anymore, I just want a fast phone now. I'm starting to regret my Hero purchase and probably won't go to the EVO(*gasp*) and will instead go for a black berry or palm something. Its plain stupid to have your own phone mess up what your typing or doing because it can't process it fast enough. I can't use my phone for web browsing(too laggy) and anything that requires typing(too laggy, mistypes abc as acb, etc)

Not released, but it is possible to cook one yourself, but you would be stuck using 1.5 since the source for the kernel is required and that has only been released for the .27 kernel and the camera is only supported under 1.5 with that kernel.

I do agree that it is irritating to have slow features, But if you are running a custom 2.1 rom such as fresh or DC, I reccomend uninstalling the HTC Mms.apk, and just install the standard android 2.1 Mms.apk
Its alot smoother, in fact no lag at all.
Also the web browser on this phone absolutely sucks, it is worse than opera mobile on wm, it is unbearably slow.
Use opera mini, it loads up everything in 2-3 seconds, its very fast.
I agree totally with mjz147 about the Vanilla MMS.apk being MUCH faster then the HTC one..
Also using one of the replacement keyboards will work very well IMO. I'm currently using Swype, and loving it.
Dolphin Browser is also a great alternative to the stock one..
There are plenty of options and configurations available to make the phone much faster then stock even WITHOUT overclock.. My phone feels twice as fast as it did at stock running whatever custom rom I've run....
With all these options here.. I cant see why you'd go to a Palm or BB.. Its Android all day in this *****.

1. You need a 1.5 Rom. Those Roms come with the 2.6.27 kernel (which the source was released). Toast fixed the EXT4 and did the overclock. If you wish, I can build you a kernel with the Rom that you choose for these functions.
2. The HTC keyboard does suck in its lag. I personally like the stock Android keyboard. There's a few developers that incorporate those into their Roms and I know some have them as themes. I'll look for you.

If he stays with 2.1. But from the first message, it sounds like he's fed up with 2.1.
He can get all those features with 1.5...the kernel will have to be compiled (I have the EXT4 code, I need to add Toast's overclock patch, which is no big deal).
As for the keyboard, anything is better than the HTC one. I used to think that was the greatest keyboard until I played with stock Android. The stock Android is fast. I heard the Skype keyboard is good...haven't used it yet.

I'm using it, it's fast as hell and camera works great.

With that said, i could use a spare, i'll give $25 for it...

From your response I gather that you must have never used a BlackBerry before. Any android with a physical keyboard > BlackBerry (for the things you are complaining about). That said I hate physical keyboards and Swype > All.

Try Beautiful Widgets, and no the Sense UI and Cy mod are not capable together. Maybe the kernel will sometime but not the actual rom. BTW major off with the section try Q&A next time before you get flamed hard.

Even if it was possible we have to remember it has been out for two days and is an experimental rom. NOBODY wants to work for a few hours for a couple days only to have a new, more stable rom come out that could potentially break the work they just finished. They would rather have a rom that is "stable" and won't be replaced within days (Meaning yes, a long-term rom that won't be updated for 2+ weeks).

By the time that happens we will have all discarded our G1's. Do remember people do this as a hobby not for a job, that's for actual devs that do it for a job.

Until Toast releases his .29 kernel and Freshtoast gets bugs worked out I'm sticking with Overclocked Gumbo. It just freaking works. It's fast, stable and other than the market being ugly I don't see many dealbreaking differences.

personally im thinking bout going back to 1.5 myself.. 2.1 in all forms atm still has bugs..its kinda getting like flashing wm roms..lol since 2.1 is still beta that is.. with 1.5 everything works and its fast.. even co-pilot works..( still cant get it to work on 2.1 roms.) so really to me the only thing on 2.1 worth keeping is google nav. and the better market.. so fixxxer

the processor wouldn't be an issue at all... it's other things like the gpu, touchscreen, buttons, camera, etc. that would make it difficult.

Nah, I'm pretty sure I read once when there were talks about porting FroYo or something to our phone, the only real candidate was the MyTouch Slide because it had the same CPU tables or something as our phone. Without the same CPU tables (w/e it was), the port was a lot more difficult. But yes, if we did get the cpu to work right, the rest would be difficult.
They should Port this two...
