SOLVED (kinda): Is Google Blacklisting GMail accounts used on rooted phones? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

So here's the situation. I've got a Sprint Hero. I rooted it and installed MoDaCo, and everything was fine. Then I got this spedr.com/1iw9z beta 2.1 ROM just to try out (This ROM doesn't have copy protect apps working).
The problem arose when I went back to my Nandroid backup of MoDaCo (and my backup of the Stock ROM for that matter.) When I did that I couldn't access any protected apps on either stock or MoDaCo.
I thought that maybe this was from the 2.1 ROM but when I wiped and signed in with another GMail account I could view protected apps.
So all that is to say. Has anybody else experienced this problem and if so have you found a way to fix it? I'm thinking about contacting Google, but if they did blacklist my account there may not be much of a point, besides making sure I never get my account unblocked.

I am not aware of Google blacklisting people, so it's likely a bug. Calling them up might not resolve any problems since they're not bound to helping you if you've broken the warranty on your phone by rooting it, but it can't hurt.

Must be a bug, as mer6 suggested...
I've been running 2.1 ROMs (xROM & CaNNoN202 Complete) on my G1 for a couple weeks and my GMail account has not been locked out.

you have to do a complete wipe and reinstall a rom with all protected apps working...
sometimes its just a screw up
worst comes to worst if u cant get ur apps back...
u can change build.prop files if u knwo how to do all that
or just reset it to stock and sign into the market and then root it again

Yeah, I was inclined to think it was a bug because I haven't been able to find many othere people with the same problem. The thing is I've reflashed MoDaCo 2.2 Fresh 1.1 and I even went back to the latest RUU and tryed to get protected apps before I rooted again and there was still nothing. It doesn't seem like you would be able to get a bug in your Gmail account that would do something like this but I'm not very experianced with all this.
Signing in with another account after a wipe will fix the problem but I've got a few paid apps on this account I'd like to keep.
Changing the build.prop sounds like it might work, can you point me to any places that give any info on that? I've looked around some but so far I haven't seen much.

I doubt if google even cares. After all, they never manufactured any hardware nor do they care on where you use your gmail.
You may use your gmail account while riding a pink pony over the rainbow, for all that they care.

Haha, good point ady.
I think you are right because I just booted up my G1, something I should have already done, with King's 2.1 aosp on it, signed into my account and I can see protected apps.
So now I think I am down to a bug... now to see if I can fix it
If anybody has info on the build.prop file editing that would be helpful, going to look for it some more right now.

Just a quick update for anyone who is interested.
I changed the build.prop file but that didn't work, but just today I thought I would try another 2.1 ROM just for kicks. Sure enough, I flashed damagecontrol and all of my protected apps are back. Strange issue but I don't mind sticking with 2.1 I may go back to a 1.5 ROM just to see if damage control fixed something, or if it is uniqe to 1.5, but for now: Problem solved

This has nothing to do with Google blacklisting Gmail accounts. What's happened is your Market DB has gone out of sync from swapping your account between phones with different apps installed. The DB glitches if your phone and/or account says an app is installed but the apk isn't in /data/app.
It's a known bug on Google Support forums. To avoid I make sure I only have my Google account signed in on one phone at once and do not swap back. Always perform a wipe when changing ROMs. Keeping backups of your APKs with AppManager and using Recovery to both "wipe dalvik-cache" and "fix apk uid mismatch" could be used to solve this, maybe not.
We've all been running rooted phones for ages, Google doesn't care about it.

[Q] Titanium Backup Restore Issue

(First off, this is my first post so my apologies if I've done anything improper here)
Ok, so there are a lot of posts about Titanium Backup restore issues but I haven't quite been able to fix my problem. I'm not trying batch restores or anything complicated like that, and the advice I've seen in the past and on the Titanium Backup FAQs doesn't work. Here's my problem:
Yesterday I backed up then uninstalled "Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0" but then realized that my phone (HTC Incredible) uses that to link my contacts with their Facebook profiles (for pictures, birthday notifications, etc.). So today I went to restore it and Titanium Backup just hangs (there is a spinning wheel on the left and it says "Restoring App: 'Facebook for HTC Sense 1.0'") It does this whether I try restoring just the app or app+data.
I have root and updated busybox from the "Problems" button in the app. Many people on here have said to go to "Troubleshooting settings" and change the "App processing mode" but when I go there that option is greyed out. I'm sure this would work (it has for others it seems), but I don;t know what to do since it is greyed out.
I thought about reinstalling Titanium Backup, but I don't want to lose my data to restore from. I don't know how that works.
Anyone know what to do?
UPDATE: Well I don't think reinstalling would help, since an update just came through the market. I figure an update would've fixed anything that a reinstall would have. Also, to add a little more information on the problem, I was able to restore "Adobe Reader 9.0.1" but not able to restore "Footprints 1.10" (another HTC built-in app)
I have the same problem on my HTC Desire.
After installing the latest CyanogenMod, I wanted to return a couple of the HTC-supplied apps. Titanium Backup gets superuser permissions and seems happy, but then freezes at 0% restore. The application processing option in preferences is always greyed out.
Hi guys, one thing that I learned while migrating to Cyanogenmod is that restoring HTC apps will really hurt stability and possibly lead to bootlooping, as there is no HTC sense framework for their apps to work correctly. AFAIK, there is no way around that. I learned the hard way that restoring all apps and data just will not work between AOSP roms and Sense roms. I'm sorry I can't offer more help on it, but you'll need to pick and choose your apps and data and make sure you don't bring Sense/HTC stuff into Cyanogenmod. I know, it's frustrating! Good luck guys!

We'll my problem is slightly different because I'm still using sense. I didn't load any new roms. I removed it and then tried to restore the next day without making any other changes. So why won't my apps restore?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
what did you remove? was it a system app or something you installed from the market? system apps, when "removed" even when backed up, don't reinstall from my experience. I never had any problem reinstalling any user apps that were properly backed up though.
I'm wondering if this is something to do with HTC's "S on" extra security.
Need to read up on this — anyone have a good resource about it? It seems a bit more obscure than just rooting, with some unreliable-looking websites about it. And I'm coming at this as a total n00b
But the system folder does indeed seem to have some kind of extra write-protection going on, even when accessing it as root.
I have a G2X and I have also learned the hard way that Titanium will not restore system apps. So the problem your having has nothing to do with Sence. If you search the for forums hard enough there is info on the topic
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
So... If I do a factory reset on my phone then, will all be fixed? Or does uninstalling it remove it from wherever the factory reset would pull from?
I'll probably need to root it again after, but I just want that "Facebook for HTC Sense" app back so my contacts link with their facebook profiles for continually updating phone numbers, profile pictures, etc.

Problem Solved
I flashed Liberation Enhanced v1.00 yesterday and everything is fixed. Liberation does all that I wanted to do in the first place: have Sense without the bloatware. It was my first time flashing a new ROM and I'm happy to say it went very well
(Now once I get enough posts in, I can add it to my signature like everyone on here seems to like to do)
guess you fixed the issue, but dealing with Titanium Backup, i sometimes have it hanging when i freeze/unfreeze or sometimes it hangs/freezes when backing up/restoring. in the settings there's like some different restoration methods it lets you choose (Direct, Indirect, and something else), but switching it to Indirect Method fixed the issue for me, so just incase someone else runs into a similar problem. im on a SGS4G.

I think what you're talking about may be part of the "App processing mode" option that I said was greyed out for some reason on my phone.

Google Voice on GB

EDIT: Mods, please move this to the main Charge forum, accidentally put this thread in the wrong place.
Hey all,
Of the people who use Google Voice, what have your experiences been? I have used every variant of the leaked GB ROMs available as of this point, 8:40PM MT, and GV won't work with any of them. Having GV installed, it will not load up my account when I select my main Google account on setup. Going back to any Froyo ROM it will work fine but GB is no-go. I have heard some people saying it won't work and other saying it works fine.
GV is my main method of SMS since I have my vzw SMS turned off and blocked so if I run a GB ROM, I get no SMS. I have installed GV both from Titanium and directly from the market with no luck. Has anybody figured out a fix for this? I know this is all still very beta and it could just be a flaw in the leak but I really would love to have some Netflix.
- Glitch
P.S. Yes, I have wiped cache and dalvik and still nothing.
In the same boat
I am in the same boat - 100% GV SMS realiant (no VZW SMS at all) and have had the same issues. I've tried installing from TB, the Market... everything I could think of and haven't had any luck. Because of this, and the fact that one of the other apps I use daily (VZ FiOS TV Remote Control App) does'nt work, I think I am going to be headed back to Froyo until the official release comes out.

[Q] How do you go about setting your phone up after new ROM?

It seems like every time I set up a new ROM, it takes me forever to get everything set back up and I always miss something, contacts are missing, apps go all wonky... I used to backup all my apps and data, but a lot of the time the new ROM will download many of the apps I had, so when I restore the backup of my Apps, it screws everything all up.
So I guess my questions is... Whats the most sufficient, easiest, most thorough way of restoring all apps and whatnot on a new ROM?
For the basics use the market app to backup your sms to google cant remember what its called, backup your contacts to google (highly recommend) that way you will never loose them.
For apps i would only ever backup downloaded apps with titanium backup pro. System apps can be a pain in the ass to restore.
Other than that everything else is fairly easy...

Hmm... Ive never gone about backing up SYSTEM apps, but like paid apps, that Ive bought and backed up, seem to get all jacked when I restore or reinstall them. Ive tried a few different methods of restoring my system and never get it to go smoothly. Didnt know if there was an easier way. Thanks for the info!
You might want to upon first boot of the new ROM, bypass initial setup with the tap corners trick, restore apps with Titanium, then resume the setup process. Market will see your apps as already having been installed and not bugger everything up.
Good idea! Hadnt thought of that. Will try with my next rom. Thanks! Anymore tips out there?
First thing I thought of was nandroid backup using clockworkmod on a rooted device. I have restored my phone countless times and everything restores exactly how it was.
sometime i got errors while restoring with CWM..
Titanium is still the recommended.
When I first started out, I actually had to make a list and check it off. Eventually, I found some apps that would cover those items (Titanium, etc), but still even with that I have to manually go in and do a few settings. MIUI ROMS have a backup program (I used MIUI on my HD2) and it seemed to do a decent job.
I usually keep a current back up of all apps from market(not system apps) made from my backup pro. Everything else gets a fresh start.
When I switch android versions ei, from gingerbread to ics, nothing gets restored, everything is a fresh install from market.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Was it through CWM rom manager or manual recovery mode? I mean did you install a kernel that installed cwm or did you install rom manager? After a couple weeks walking around blind I figured out that flashing the right kernel gets cwm to work without problems.
Restoring system settings is a big no no. It is just asking for trouble as with each update the source code is changed and then you are restoring outdated settings that may or may not be there.
TIBU is still the main app restore program. As for restoring settings that is never advices. Well unless you like troubleshooting random errors lol
Thanks for ALL the replies! Some stuff I hadnt thought of in here, and some stuff to try. If anyone else has any more info, please feel free to share. I have heard that restoring settings is asking for trouble, so luckily Im not too picky about those. I really only change the haptic feedback and stuff off the bat, anyway. It also sucks losing all my WiFi networks and having to have all my friends dig up their network passwords.
Anyway, gonna try out some of this stuff today as Im sick of the ROM I just flashed. Still waiting on MIUI getting that MMS workin

I concur, system restores after updates, different roms etc are a nightmare lol. It might be a pain in the a$$ but i ALWAYS start afresh after each flash and never use the same data image lol

[Q] N7100 Keeps Reinstalling Google Crapware. (Long)

This is gonna be long, so please bear with me.
New Android user here, since December and never looked back.
But I have a big problem that just started two days ago, and coincided with the installation of Vonage for Android.
My N7100 is rooted and I also installed a new kernel (Perseus), but kept the stock ROM for the time being, but I'm getting closer to installing CyanogenMod ROM through ROManager Premium.
I just read the article posted here by Will Verduzco on Android security which led me to a bunch of articles on VOIP and it's scary.
My problem is that my N7100 will kind of do a half-baked reset without my doing anything... and then after watching the download light blinking on my router here in the house, Airport is downloading for about five minutes and then, BANG!!!, up comes the screen asking me for my language, and to set up a Google acct, Samsung acct, and I have to re-enter the passwords for my WiFi, etc, etc... you know the drill.
What's causing this?
I've been on XDA hundreds of times doing research on one thing or another, and I've removed all the Google bloatware possible except for the few things that I want to keep, and I got that comprehensive list from the XDA site... but after my device gets done doing it's thing, everything is back with dozens of notifications... AND Titanium Backup, ROM Manager, Triangle Away, SuperSu, Root Explorer, ES File Explorer/Task manager, etc are all missing and no backups on the SD card. WHAT!!!
One more thing which might be peripheral to my problem.
A couple of days ago I installed the new OS for my Mac... 10.9.
With my prior OS, I uninstalled almost all of anything that said "Google" from my computer but have to go through it again and repeat.
This morning, I do a search for anything Google on my drive, and came up with files with executable update files that all had "Android/GT-N7100 in the path.
Yes, I did connect to Kies by USB just once to check things out there but I don't think that's the underlying problem. Maybe it is.
I've seen some REAL genius help on this site, and hope that somebody that has a grasp on my problem can help.
I joined this site a few minutes ago just to ask this question, by the way.
If I went off track as to the posting guidelines on the site, just tell me.
Hey, I'm pushing 70 and the mind wanders. Haha!
Thanks in advance, guys!

as for your note 2 problem, so your saying you flashed Cyangenmod on it correct? if so did you flash a the current gapps for whatever version you flashed? im thinking that's the problem, otherwise another flash of the cyangenmod ROM might fix it.

No, I haven't flashed CM yet, but as I said, I'm moving in that direction after looking a a bunch of ROMs.
This is gonna sound kind of dumb, but the reason that I'm holding on to the stock rooted ROM is just because of one active screen saver, and that's Windy Weather. Like when it's raining here, you get rain drops sliding down the inside of the glass. HA!
And believe it or not, I agonize over the small stuff... like whether or not I want to go with an AOSP or AOKP ROM.
Believe it or not, when I got done with massaging the stock ROM today, all of the junk that I had formerly removed through Titanium Backup were still gone even though it showed that it was all re-downloaded in the Notifications.
I just have a sneaking hunch that the Vonage VOIP App that I installed had "something" to do with my problem, so I have not reinstalled it, and I also destroyed all of the Play Store links with Titanium Backup and still no problem.
I'm still running the stock 4.1.2 stock ROM.
Even if I do go with CM, I'm a little worried that if I download Gapps, something in there just might want to gain control and zap my device again.
Anywhooo... for the last several hours, I'm not having any problems.
Thanks for your reply.

yeah anytime man thanks for explaining a little bit, well if you want to stay on stock like ROM i would recommend jedi mind trick, its pretty much stock but just removes the carrier bloatware and puts in a few custom goodies and should have your rain drop effect you want xD, i have been trying to find a link for you but i dont know what carrier you have, its a note 2 right? also, it rains in las vegas? lol come over to washington and see the difference.

Removing App info

I've been having quite a difficult time with an application that simply does not want to disappear and I have no idea how they're doing this. There's a game called Knights & Dragons and after I used titanium backup to restore my game [not thinking] after flashing a new ROM it suddenly got stuck in a reloading loop. I've tried to contact the developers over the matter but 1. it's GREE and 2. they're probably under the impression that i've been cheating.
SO. I decided that I'll just whipe it and make a new account and start from scratch not bothering. I just played casually so it's not a big issue really. Something to do with my kids and brother.
I've done a full out factory reset more than once, installed different ROMS including different playstore versions, cleared data under apps options, looked under android/data/ for any game files i may have missed floating on the system, spoof data through XPrivacy which works on everything else, tried PDroid, made a new google account and downloaded through that and nothing.
Every time it still loads up my old game thats glitched/banned [unsure which it is] and I have no idea how. All data that I know of has been deleted and the phones data including google acc/key has been legitly changed AND i'm spoofing on top of it. There should be absolutely NO way the game associates itself with my device yet it does which leads me to believe that somewhere on my phone something is hidden. Does anyone have any ideas?
Same issue
Did you get it to work?
I'm also after what are they using to identify the device. Can't figure out.
If you fixed it, can you please let us know?
Thanks
Do you have a full backup from your stock ROM ? (you can restore and start over for real)
You should have your stock ROM and then flash other ROM over it, simply because custom ROMs are overwritten to the previous ROM and if some file are corrupted they should get fixed
Repair shops usually have devices to hard flash your android device into an stock Recovery and ROM, you may try that too
