I'm having an issue with voicemail notifications not making it to my hero. Are there any known troubleshooting steps for voicemail? Any alternate voicemail apps?

I don't seem to get any sort of notification for voicemails except from visual voicemail, which doesn't work unless I'm data or wi-fi connected.
Is there any way of fixing this?
Running ICBINB.
Any idea why this might be happening and how to fix it?

uninstall visual voicemail
Nvm a bloke on the T-Mobile forums was kind enough to answer this question for me.
Seems like you just have to clear the data and cache from the visual voicemail app and you'll start getting normal notifications without data or wifi again. Oddly though if you uninstall the visual voicemail app you won't get any notifications at all.
ahhh thk you man. I was punching myself as i couldn't figure out why i wasn't getting any notifications of voicemails. I flashed a rom that didn't have the visual voicemail installed. Installing it now, and hopefully it fixes this issue!
I know this is old but I can confirm that not having Visual Voicemail was the culprit in my case of the voicemail alert not showing up on my phone. I have titanium backup installed and decided I'd uninstall non-useful/used apps that came stock with the phone. Of course, I didn't realize at the time this was the reason why my voicemail icon no longer appeared and I had 15 voicemails waiting for me :O. Anyway, good catch Yangorang.

Gmail, hit menu > more > settings > your account name > labels to notify > setup each label you want to change the notification for.
If you're using t-mobile voicemail you cannot change the sound. I dunno if you can if you're using visual voicemail.
I use Google Voice for voicemail, and that app, I can change the notification sound for.
Good day,
I am new to this kind of phone and wanted to know if there is a way to remap the voicemail icon in the stock dialer. Its currently setup to open Visual Voicemail but I am using the H20 network and Visual Voicemail does not work so I want to set the icon up to just dial the voicemail number.
Thank you in advance.
I think you can add the voicemail number to your contacts then make that a short cut. Hope that helps.
So I have tried with google voice and also t mobile visual voicemail. Neither work correctly. Tmobile doesn't even set up and while google voice sets up when a voicemail arrives I receive both the google voice and the regular phone voicemail. Any suggestions ?

If you're using one of the T-Mobile prepaid plans, I've seen in other forums where having T-Mobile turn off your T-Mobile voicemail fixes things. Check this out: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/gbReID1_dIo and see if that's what you're experiencing, maybe their fix will work. Just an idea.
I'm not on prepaid so I decide to delete the app and reinstall seems to have gone well now I have to leave a vM to see if the issues persist
I don't know about the Google Voice, but someone else on here posted a solution for getting TMo Visual Voicemail to work.

I initially couldn't get mine to run, but after I followed the instructions by B0xer, I was able to get Visual Voicemail started. In the end, he writes that you should install visual voicemail again, but I didn't need to. I just sent the sms, and then started the Visual Voicemail app, and all was fixed.
Sprint rolled out an update to visual voicemail this week announcing it in the grandest of ways (An unsolicited text message)
6772: SprintFreeMsg: Your Visual Voicemail account has been upgraded. Please call in to voicemail now to record your new greeting and reset your passcode.
My problem is that I use Google Voice for Voicemail and I want nothing to do with Sprints' Visual Voicemail feature. The problem I'm having is I can't figure out how to disable it. Is anyone else affected by this issue or found a work around?
Hi,
I updated my software to build number 32.3.A.2.33 and noticed my visual voicemail tab is gone. Since the update all my voicemails go to my call log. Has any encountered this? It's very annoying to have to call in to your own number to access voicemail
Wow is there anyone on T-Mobile here in the US that has not had this issue? I doubt that!
