OMG! Dinik is ban/gone from XDA_Devs?! (maybe temporary)

Dinik's ban is temporary. Hopefully he will feel gratious enough to return when it is lifted.
Well credit to Chainfire for being a fair and decent Mod.
Chainfire you will be a legend today for better or worse!
He had the courage to end a pointless feud that should have been finished ages ago.
No doubt this will also upset and anger many of Dinik's loyal followers (and maybe even drive them to HTCPedia!), but it was inevitable as things were continuing and escalating every day.
Thought this post should be made asap, as a way to contain the inevitable onslaught of comments and grief, so that it does not spread over XDA and get out of hand! Please feel free to move as you see fit.

My opinion
It socks relay; I can understand that the moderators must do something to keep-down the endless discussion; but on this way thy don't punish one person but a hole group of members.
I have respect to the decision of the moderators; and hope this will be a lesson for the future.
I hope this measure it's temporary and not definitive.

I didn't really follow the drama fully, but it did seem like the other parties involved did on occasion follow dinik to his threads to pick a fight.

Diniks works were quite nice, iam using it too. but i think he got to far with his own rules of using/not using his works.
Hes spreading his works on xda, so he should respekt xda rules and not the other way round. xda is a free board with a lot of good (free)stuff...he should take cookie as example with his really impressive an amazing CHT...cookie isnt so arrogant as dinik and even publish his sourcecode for everybody =)...
If he wants to stay with his attitude..then he should to to apple =p

I am actually quite astonished to see that some people don´t seem to understand what was and is going on.
It is the forum moderators and admins who make the rules, nobody else.
While I think Dinik´s work brought some fresh new ideas to the whole Sense modding, some aspects are questionable. I actually stopped using his work, as I felt he made statements which feel like written by some Apple PR guys:
"The greatest (put what you want here) ever, brand new and unique."
Yeah, just like Apple re-inventing the wheel again and again.

I think frequent forum visitors will know that Chainfire is indeed a legend here (and probably some other places, too). In a positive way - no need to mention that. Just check dozens, if not hundreds, ROMs with CFC´d Manila, Turbo 3D drivers, and more. Great work. And free, if you like.
Life goes on. Enjoy your devices with those things you already have from Dinik. And as soon as he comes back, you get even more of his work. If not, just continue using what is existing.

Thank you for the update guys, I had made brief contact with Chainfire before posting and was, at the time, unaware of the banning severity.
I have modified the title and first post as appropriate and will continue if further updates emerge.
This thread was started simply as a location point to capture any questions and conversation about the events, which I hope it is doing acceptably.
My post is intended to be neutral as I am unbiased in the argument and decision, however I do feel the constant arguments, bickering, rules (and rule breaking), and negativity was distracting from the great works and detrimental the forum community spirit in general.
Dinik being a high profile member, would not have gone unmissed for long before questions were asked, so this thread was created. Perhaps a mod can be kind enough to answer any questions other members may have about the decision and rules that lead to it.

First of all, I don't use any of the graphical enhancements by the parties in dispute.
In my opinion the decision to temp ban Dinik was a poor call.
In my view the mods took the easy choice in banning Dinik as he was actively trying to defend/protect his work. Silencing him was easier than trying to end the conflict between the parties involved.
If anything most who were involved in the dispute should have been banned, not just Dinik.
However, let's not blow this out of proportion. There isn't anything on XDA graphically wise that can't be duplicated very easily (even with my limited skills ), so I'm surprised this sort of problem doesn't occur all the time .
If you don't want your work to be distributed/duplicated or inspire further development then don't post on XDA, it's as simple as that but I do hope Dinik does return to XDA as his contribution to the community is considerable.

Hope he returns, because honestly after finding this site, he's the main reason I continue to frequent & enjoy this site. No disrespect to other hardworking devs, I appreciate what all you guys do for us.

Just one thing to consider here please (in my personal and humble opinion).
Let me prefix this by saying that I've only ever used Dinik’s keyboard and it is a very nice skin. Actually it is a regret that this all kicked off just as he was about to release a wicked new version of the keyboard. I hope he still does, sparse glass parts can be beautiful. On the other hand, the icons and all-over glass are just not my cup-of-tea. To me, I feel the icon images are overwhelmed by the constant borders and large margins around the images. And the glass reflection layer covering the actual icon image can be distracting from the main focus of the icon. But obviously many, many people do like them, so it is all just personal taste.
That said, here is my single point regarding Dinik’s rules, the ongoing saga and many, many arguments occurring throughout the forums:
Without this community (the same community that may have also downloaded, tweaked, changed or even re-distributed his icons, template and related themes so many times) ripping works out of roms (EXT packages, XIP/SYS, drivers, applications, etc), there would be no custom ROMs (Miri or otherwise) for his theme to exist in.
The original/stock roms are, for all intent and purposes, the REAL intellectual property of genuine Artistic and Development giants like HTC and Microsoft. They have had the good fortune to recognize XDA as the great resource that it is; and, despite their actual copyrights, legalities and ownership of code & graphics, made the fortunate judgement to allow all the XDA ripping and modding to continue.
If HTC or MS decided that all new development branches and leaked WinMob builds, were exclusively their property and not to be posted elsewhere; and that roms & applications from a particular device where to be 'Exclusive' to only that model device - what would happen to you, me and this whole community?!
Perhaps Dinik’s distribution rules and tactics should have taken a lesson from that example?...
All the best with with whatever you decides to do in the future Dinik, and I do thank you again for all the effort and hard work you provide(d) into this community.

No the thread was not the big news. To be honest I dont really have much info yet about this. To be honest I dont trust it to prove to be anything at all really. I will give more info as I get it.
As for Them starting a Support thread here....I dought it....Think about what we do here, and come to your own thoughts

Yea, and everyone around here on XDA were total D-bags and flammed the poor guy.
He's a marketing rep for Samsung, and I think was honestly trying to find a way to reach out to the XDA community. And in return, everyone ripped his thread to pieces.
I guess the old, "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" doesn't work so well around here. Pitty too. Cause unless all the idiots around here plan on rushing the Samsung corporate headquarters and holding the CEO ransom, burning the one bridge set forth isn't going to get anyone anywhere.

I did finally find the thread, catching up now. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a trade in offer of some kind involved. Just speculation on my part tho. of course, after the reception he received here we probably won't hear anything now..

I agree. The way I see it, we have nothing to lose. They already have our money. Why not let the guy say his piece? Is there anything he can possibly say that will sway our opinion without doing something about the problems? Is he going to hypnotize us into buying more Samsung products?

With all due respect. Samsung has brought the hatred and anger on themselves. They choose to enter into agreements where they cant comment on the updates they provide. They choose to enter into agreements where they cant update their own hardware without the carriers blessing. They choose to allow their PR reps make comments about updates that never come dangling a carrot in front of those hopeful for the advanced features others on identical hardware in other countries enjoy.
Sorry they burned their bridges, they doused their customers with gasoline, you cant blame us for wanting to embrace them with our last fiery breaths.

Ok guys if this turns into a flame fest or name calling i will close this one as well. I am not sure what will happen if anything other then empty promises as like stated above "they already have our money." To be honest This will be my last Samsung device I ever own. No matter What Samsung has to say, I will never again promote a Samsung device, as I had big hopes for the Captivate. I should have known better after all the work I have had to do on their other smartphones, that this one would be just as much a POS as all the others, BJ, BJ II, Epic, Jack.

Help Me Out Here!

Alright so I have had Andromeda 2.0 installed on my captivate for quite a while now, needless to say those guys did an excellent job building that puppy. I was even able to turn one of my die hard AT&T friends toward it. I grow tired of things quickly, so now I'm looking to upgrade my phone once again to a new ROM. I haven't made up my mind completely yet, I still love Andromeda might switch to a new kernel IDK. Give me what you think will be a good ROM for a somewhat newbie ROM flasher/user/developer.
But any way, the real reason why I'm posting on this forum is because a scholarship opportunity that became available to me.

The scholarship is called "Your Question Your Mark" and it valued at 40K (10K/year). UD is a private school that has an excellent engineering program that has many ties to WPAFB, and allot of respect. The downside is UD costs a pretty penny, and my parents don't want to fork over too much dough. So the most of tuition lies on me. Financial aid from FASA is out out of the question too.
I've already been accepted into the UD electrical engineering program, and I hope to major in electro-optics in the future.
So what am I asking from the viewer of this thread? Just go to the link and click on the like button under my video, and if you are feeling saint like distribute the video to other laser enthusiasts and friends. You don't even have to watch it, however you may learn a lil something. You will need a Facebook account to do so though. If you don't have a Facebook, they are pretty cool an all...
You can look through some of the other videos, just don't like any of them. Please! It is competition based on the amount of votes you receive. The top 10 videos with the most votes are to be judged, 3 videos are selected. 1st prize is $40,000 and 2nd and 3rd are only $2500. Yeah I know big drop off.
Sorry about the choice in music, originally I made a pretty sweet intro using Animoto to Livin on a Prayer. I posted the Intro on YouTube then ripped it off, just cause Animoto doesn't let you own the video. Needless to say I violated several copyright laws, so I decided to play it safe then sorry and use some copyright free music.

What does this have to do with the Captivate?

No idea, but ud (University of Dayton) is pretty expensive. I live just about 2 minutes from it. Without them and Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton would be dead. But ya, what's it gotta do with the captivate?

Thanks, I was planning on doing more games through the HDMI and I still might but YouTube has a bs 15 minute upload limit so I was trying to pack in a lot of stuff.

Nice review! Don't give any of the grammar/ghetto remarks any weight. You speak and write better than a lot of the paid bloggers at some of the more popular Android sites.
I like the fact that you broke the various tours/reviews out into separate videos. It's easier (for me) to take them in small increments when I have time than to try to digest a 15-minute review. And I'm definitely happier with your software/multimedia reviews. Lots of others simply flip through the app drawer and the browser, like that tells me how the phone really performs.
Maybe it's just me but I'd like to see the output of "mount" and "df" so I can gauge how the storage is laid out and what's mounted where (and how). That may be beyond the scope of what you're trying to show.
Other than that, I have to say it's probably one fo the most thorough reviews I've seen. Good, no, excellent job!

In our time with this device found ourselves to be more and more impressed with the handset. It can take anything you throw at it and ask for more. Excellent wordage, I'd expect nothing less from a mod. Overall, how do you think I did? From 1 to 10 what would you give it?

It's a solid 7. A little word switching / punctuation checking could easily make it a 10. Very thorough and comprehensive. I'll be doing my own unboxing of the device later on this week (no reviews from me ). Just purchased today.

Not me! The thinness and lightness of this phone is the only thing that makes the giant screen tolerable IMHO.

why would you... i don't even know why people need extra battery. like for reals I am a teen meaning i text browse the web listen to music like crazy and i get through the day at night with about 28% battery (last night).
and now that i got my iPod back battery should last even longer.
i really do not understand why people obsess over battery a lot. like don't you all go home and charge your phone??
i would understand if you phone isn't keeping charge then obsess over the battery but other than that it just pointless to me...

HAHA. This wins the award for best post ever.
1) "like for reals I'm a teen..." ... that statement alone identifies this kid as the guy we all made fun of cause he was annoying and always corrected the teached.
2) like for reals dude, maybe you should spend more time in school because you'll quickly learn that no matter how many times a day you tweet that you just ate pizza for lunch, it doesn't compare to the data usage a corporate user that has multiple exchange accounts syncing constantly changing calendar, contacts, docs, and OCS chatter.
3) Sorry if it's not a big deal if your battery runs low and you're unable to jerk off to Justin Bieber's new video in the bathroom stall between getting beat up on the bus and getting beat up in first period... but to some people there's a bit more at stake when their phone stops functioning.
Oye... I need a shower. haha

It is an android development forum, and if you cannot provide any useful feedback, instead of just flaming other users, then why dont you just stop...

Are you illiterate? I was responding to a flaming post. I clearly explained why someone might want to have a longer battery, because the poster portrayed that battery life should not be a consideration.
If you don't like my opinions, you're free to block me.... but don't post your opinion and say others cannot do the same, that makes you a hypocrite. Your entire post is exactly what you're *****ing about other people doing.

dam seriously guys/girls
first, i do pay attention in school just because I am tweeting and face book and listen to music, doesn't mean i don't pay attention, im actually graduating today top 10%!
second, i have my email accounts, calendars, and pretty much everything synced up to 1 hour intervals, college papers for my summer course are done through Google docs so yes i use a **** load of data to get my **** done.
and third, Justin Bieber dude really? that was so unnecessary if your going to put something some thing like that at least put porn hub or some thing else. get with the program... Justin Bieber... pffft.

So the weather is pretty nice out today in sandy eggo.

LMAO at the weather.
i just think it really defeats the purpose of having the thinnest smartphone in the states.
and now that we have roms, battery life gets better from here. im currently running at 63% percent unplugged since 9:50is am. that more than 12 hours already and still have more than half.

I think we can all agree its good idea "IF" you need it to carry around a small portable external charger. That way no one looses the thinness or the light wighteness of the phone.
I might not need an "Executive" account to know that battery life on smart phones usually suck, but I am a teen and the "Constant " twitter posts I put out there leave me with battery to spare at the end of the day.
PS. I don't have a twitter. Lol

And that's where you're wrong. You can have an opinion, but it it's rude to another person, i'd like you to keep it to yourself. You can correct someone, but stay polite. I don't like the tone you're setting.
