I was wondering if anyone got the FM Radio to work on our nexus one.
I saw a video on YouTube showing someone running the Desire ROM on the N1 and he was able to use the HTC FM Radio App.
Does someone have an APK for FM app?
Thanks,
Here u go, i got it startrted but would imediatly force close.
Im using the modaco desire rom and when I load the radio it wants me to plug in headphones that are used as the antenna

I get the same result.
I am guessing it needs some additional components / drivers.
I hope someone can port the app over without having to use the full Desire ROM as i like my phone with Cyan's mod just fine
Yeah... I seriously doubt whether it's possible to use FM Radio on the Nexus, due to hardware limitations. There's just no antenna for it. Sure, you could plug in headphones to use as an antenna, but I don't think the hardware is capable of connecting to them. I could be wrong, but I doubt we can make this work with software.
i think, thatall phones use headphones as the antenna, so i dont think its that, its defo, something in side the apk, or even the rom thats switching the radio on, i have tried opening the apk ive got inside but i had no luck opening the xml files inside.
This Video http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/21/htc-desire-rom-shoehorns-htc-sense-and-flash-10-1-onto-the-nexus/ at around 4:00 mark it looks like the radio is working when you plug in the headphones...so i think it is not a missing antenna issue.

-thats my video, and no the FM radio is not working, it will attempt to scan for stations but never play anything. For a "antenna" i was using 36 feet of rca cable to a sound system with a radio that gets all my stations with a 6 inch antenna, so its definitely not working yet
can i ask, would the settings for the radio be in the .APK or the rom.
I would think it would be in the rom, but I don't think we will know until we get the final rom dump.
I actually don't think this will be solved until HTC releases their kernel source...
or there kernel for it gets leaked,
I just tried installed and tried this FM Radio app on my Rooted Desire ROM on my Nexus One, it really slowed my phone after running FM Radio... and yes it did not work even with the original Nexus One Headphones... duh..

I don't know why. My device was with the same configuration everytime and suddenly, the FM Radio stopped working.
It doesn't scan stations and it's impossible to search, while yesterday it did perfectly.
I also noticed that bluetooth actively refuses to start. When I try to enable it, the system appears to consume a lot of CPU and the wait animation remains there for some seconds. Then it disappears and the bluetooth indicator doesn't change. So it's always off.
I have switched from radio 1.58.25.14 to 1.58.23.21 and changed the OS ROM from bepe 0.58 to Black Widow and I have bepe's again.
I'm very upset because one of the features I use more is the FM radio. I can't imagine that my device is broken, and that the radio unit has a hardware failure
I bought it in the UK and I'm from Spain. In case of having to repair it, I will have to move the earth! So I hope that somebody has a solution for this disgusting situation...

The longer I watch this situation the longer it seems to me, that flashing Radio 1.58.25.14 destroys your Bluetooth and FM-Radio unit. I don't know how, I suppose has something to do with routing too much power or god knows how, but more and more people which once flashed Radio 1.58.25.14 complain of broken Bluetooth and FM-Radio units...
Same here and Original ROM
I am using the original ROM and my BT is broken. I've hard reset and still the same.
Ohhhhhhh HTC.
The each new device, on step back in quality.
Has anybody figured out when the MEIZU M8 will launch?

I have an HTC Touch Cruise. Bluetooth and FM Radio was working, and at some point it stopped.
The device has the original ROM -- no hacks.
I used this successfully: http://esl.sun.ac.za/keyboard/
This required the installation of the .NET 2.0 framework.
Sometime after both the Bluetooth and Radio stopped working. I doubt it has to do specifically with the custom keyboard driver. The problem does not seem to be isolated to any ROM (e.g., 1.58.25.14) , although perhaps the ROM can aggravate whatever it is that breaks the FM and bluetooth.
Perhaps those who have experienced this problem could post exactly what they used the bluetooth for, what they installed (if anything), the state of the device as best they remember before and after the failure, etc?
BTW, I have a support ticket with HTC -- they told me to contact their RMA.

Before getting broken I had a strange failure when I was sending a picture with my Polaris. The other device received the picture, but when I checked it I saw that only the first half of it was rendered. The rest was corrupted on the screen.
While the trasfer was being made, I remember that I saw an error, but I don't know what it said.
BT worked for some days after this.
The FM radio used to work, but I noticed that, from time to time, it didn't start. I had to re-scan to make it work.
I sent it to the Technical Support and I received it yesterday, but... THEY DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM, so I'm really upset. I sent a complain to them and published a post in my weblog for everybody to know how the HTC customer support works in Spain.
I hope that somebody could find a software solution for this ANNOYING issue.

Hi,
My Cruise has the same problems. At the begining, internal phone speaker donĀ“t works sometimes and now, no Bluetooth and no radio with original ROM and without any change.
Today i have sent it to HTC.
This problem is becoming usual........
Regards from Spain.
Radio Died too
Hmmm,
I've just been away on business and half way through the week, the radio on my O2 Orbit2 died as well.
The radio turns on but can't find any channels when scanning, just giving a shash sound and you can't even dial in a frequency - nothing.
At the same time it also appeared to partially corrupt my sd card as I couldn't use media player to play any music tracks.
After a hard reset when I got home and reformatting the sd card, I can play music once more but the radio is dead.
It's not the end of the world but I did enjoy listening to the radio. I think I'll mail O2 and see what they have to say.
Cruise Problems
I've had mine now since mid March and all (touch wood) is working well. I find that a lot of post throughout this board indicate hardware problems after doing ROM upgrades. Personally, I'm from the old school of thought that states, if it ain't broke then don't fix. I now that people like to experiment with ROM changes etc., But I feel, that once you do that, you irrevocably change the phone's condition, even if you switch back to the original ROMs. Having said all this, I admit that I'm no expert, so take what I say, with a grain of salt, so to speak.

Well, Kidcom, the problem is there are lots of people also telling that no ROM upgrade was done and their phones also got messed up.
I wonder if the recent production units are also having faulty units. I have a reply from HTC to contact support and get an RMA, but I am in Brazil and I feel like the local HTC comes out with the local Cruise so that I can get a local RMA rather than shipping it overseas (which is a pain in the neck paperwork with Customs).
Did anyone find out a fix for that or is it a real faulty batch that reaquires manufacturing intervention?
Best,

The bluetooth/FM-radio/headset hardware problem exists since the beginning of HTC Touch Cruise. See, for instance:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383280&page=7
Thus, the problem is proved to be the motherboard hardware design mistake.
Once happened, there is no software fix (including recent "hot" fixes by HTC) to the problem. Most devices experience that in just few months (four in my case) after purchase. However, HTC provides no reply (at least to me) and denies to call back the devices.

The current FM Radio App is really bad on the HD2 and it does not help that the FM hardware within the HD2 is so bad also.
In my case for some bizzare reason the FM Radio randomly when i am listening to the radio will start to dial the last dialed number.
However does anybody know of any other FM Radio software for the HD2? PowerRadio does not work with HD2.
Thanks,
Rishi
Hey, the 'randomly dials last number' bug is posted here on the forums and is known. What model earphones are you using when this happens? From what I gather from another thread this is due to 'bad' contact on the 3.5mm plug which has said to happen especially with certain brands of earphones.
I, however, had this bug when I had the HD2 plugged into my car's stereo via a simple 3.5 to 3.5mm aux cable. I haven't had this since upgrading my rom from stock, though.
(this happens with any audio btw, in my case Sense Music player, not FM radio)
Would you be able to state which ROM and earphones/headset you're using?
EDIT: Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637502&highlight=HD25 .
I am using the 24th April 2010 219XX EnergyROM. It has also happened in all other Energy ROMs
However the headfones are very cheap quality and this could be the problem. Will change them across for another set of headfones and get back. Thanks for your help.
Any other good FM Radio Apps for the HD2?
From what i see on other threads, different ROMs and different headfones does not seem to make the problem go away 100%... its a bit of a hit and miss.

I spoke to an HTC UK Escalations Manager (Mike B) today who claims that HTC UK have never head of this and as he was the escalation's manager he would be the first to know.
Its clear that many people have reported this to HTC UK via the website but HTC simply chooses to ignore it.
I have forwarded this Thread's link to him so that he understands that there are a lot of people with this problem and hence simply claiming not to know about it is not the answer.
I have this problem on the Stock Rom too.
If you have reported this to HTC, can you kindly paste your Ticket Number here. This way the Escalation manager will know that there are a number of calls into HTC that he as the escalations manager has somehow missed. And that his statement of HTC has not had any such reports is incorrect.
i just got a tmobile contract for the GX2 coming from a US cellular htc desire. every time i get a new smartphone the hardware specs sheets always say FM radio is on the phone, however with US cellular phones they for some reason disable it from the hardware side of the device,so jumping into a G2X seemed like the most logical thing to do to get away from hardware limitations, however now i come to find out that even tho the tech sheet says the fm radio is available on this phone, its not there, its disabled or it dont work. has anyone developed a fix for this yet?
in away this is funny that it happens like that, but its becoming aggravating to keep getting phones that they keep disabling the fm radio on. i know about the tune in radio app, which is fine, but i would like the fm tuner side of my phone to work.
What is this "FM radio" of which you speak.
I remember something about that inn the days of yore.
I believe that one of you kernal developers will have to make this happen by adding it to the kernal. Not sure if this is an easy task or not.
when you go into the hiddenmenu, you can find the FM Radio Test where you can input Frequency and Volume.
that's about as far as I got.
I wonder if it is enabled on the hardware side? I was reading somewhere that they are toying with the optimus FM.apk but noone has confirmed it.
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA Premium App
wow just searching for the same thing. I saw it in the hidden menu so where is the app?
Not included in any of the roms I installed.
While it seems absolutely ridiculous, apparently the FM radio is actually simply not attached. People who have done tear-downs say that while the radio is there, it's been manually disabled, completely missing the connection. So adding it to a kernel, or messing with the fm radio app from the optimus 2x, wouldn't actually do anything.
Alternative? Use TuneIn, and hope that you always have data or wifi when you need radio.
Try Spirit Radio in the market. I can't vouch for tegra based chips, but I do know it supports the qualcomm chips and worked on my N1 (though CM7's is better).

This is another fine example in the long list of T-mobile's blundering stupid-crap. It's actually disabled at the hardware level. Brilliant huh? 1) Tell customer phone has FM 2) Tell customer to use data cause we turn off FM 3) Tell customer they use too much data an throttle connection. BRILLIANT!
I have tried searching for the solution to my problem with no luck.
I have a rooted Inspire 4G. With the stock radio and ROM, whenever I had my headphones or my 3.5mm audio cable plugged into my phone, I could use the headphones or my vehicle's speakers for phone calls (like bluetooth). I also could hear my notification sounds (text, email) through the headphones or speakers as well. Since I have rooted my phone and changed radios and ROMs, I no longer have this capability - the calls and notifications go through the crappy phone speakers. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or noticed the difference.
FYI - I have checked the call settings (Settings->Call) and nothing helps. I have read about HAC/TTY settings from the stock ROM/radio, but these options don't show up in the Rom I am using. I was wondering if maybe those settings made the difference and if there was a ROM or a mod that can access those settings.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
I've flashed many many roms and have never encountered that problem. By default, it should automatically switch to headphones once you plug in the jack.
I would suggest flashing a different rom ...such as the BB Mod rom or Absolution (both are aosp roms).
Or if you prefer the stock look with sense, try Cleardroid.
I believe any of these will solve your problems ...unless its maybe hardware related (bad jack) ?
If you decide to switch & try another rom...don't forget to wipe, so you can get started fresh.
Good Luck to you.

Most likely is an issue with the ROMs because after I posted this, I flashed the Revolution HD 6.1.5 ROM (w/ the 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M radio) and the notification/call sound is heard through the 3.5mm jack as in the stock ROM/radio. Previously I was using the CoreDroid 8.1 and GB 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 ROMs with two different radios (12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 and 12.59.60.26P_26.11.04.21_M).
So I can't exactly pinpoint what the cause was because I (stupidly) changed two items - though I could reflash one or the other with the new radio and see if that made a difference - but I would bank on the ROMs being the problem since the both of you have not experienced this problem with the ROMs you use.
Thank you both for your input.
Radio would have no effect on this. Sometimes you just have a bad installation. This is why myself and others always make sure people know how to properly wipe their phones and then tell them to re install before validating a problem as an actual bug.

Gizmoe, I understand that there are a lot of people who don't research and don't follow directions when flashing ROMs, so I can understand the tone of your comment. I actually do a full wipe every time I flash a ROM, upgrade or not. And before I posted this, I tried reinstalling and researching the problem. I admit that I am new to all this, so it was more of a lack of knowledge about how ROMs and radios work than ignorance because I try searching out the answer before posting.
Anyhow, I did determine the cause of my problem, and it was not ROM-related. It's actually my setup in my truck. Because I don't have an aux jack, I have to use an FM transmitter. My previous transmitter died a couple of weeks back, and I got a new (presumably better) one. I can adjust it between stereo and mono, and I had it on mono because of interference/static issues.
As I found out yesterday, having it on mono plugged into my phone, it will only transmit music and navigation to my stereo. Phone calls and notification sounds don't get transmitted. However, when I switch it to stereo, all sounds get transmitted to my stereo.
So problem solved - non ROM issue. Somewhat user error issue.
I wasn't doggin on ya . Although I can see how it could be read that way. It was late and I was responding to many threads. It was just a general statement to anyone reading, cause people have been getting fussy when I ask to clarify their install process so I can get the whole picture of exactly what they are doing. People seem so sure its a bug when in fact it was something they did wrong. Though that is not the case here and I can tell you get it a lot better than most people.
So I have used both the international version and the T-Mobile One S and have a serious problem when I try to play audio of the Bluetooth connection in my car. From Spotify or the standard music app the audio will keep skipping when using the Bluetooth connection in my car.
I am wondering if anyone else is having an issue playing audio over Bluetooth. I have never had this problem with any of my other phones. My Galaxy Nexus has worked flawlessly. Thus, wondering if this is a bug or a permanent issue.

I believe the One S uses BT v4.0, so this may be an issue. If I were you, I'd try to get tech support on the line and see if you can get high-level support from a knowledgeable tech on it. If you can't, I dont blame your for taking it back or selling. That's one of those deals where you're left wondering if they'll fix w/software, or if you'll be up **** creek without a paddle. Luckily I dont use BT very much, and never do for music.
Well I got my One S surprisingly fast....in 2 days ! (was expecting 5-7 days)
Just tested BT in car with Sony head unit (its the newer version only like 6-12 month old) and it seems to work for the most part.
Phone and Media profiles connected, and they reconnect just fine, media from Youtube and HTC Videos streamed just perfect and audio quality is 110% (maybe due to apt-X codec found in BT 4.0). Now at one point I noticed that it lost connection and I needed to reboot the phone in order to connect again, but I have no idea what happened there. I tried to reproduce this again without any luck, the phone stayed connected to Sony unit for about 15-20 minutes without loosing the connection and playing media from different sources
---------- Post added at 06:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:13 PM ----------
Also streamed GPS instructions and worked fine.....will test out more on my way to Tmobile to get SIM card
No probs with bluetooth to my Sony head unit either. Streaming from such as Tune in Radio or other sources that use mobile data can be hit and miss though with connection dropouts. That in itself is another issue but at least BT works fine.
